The series also includes remarkable artistic endeavors by Ouachita students, faculty, and guest artists. This year’s Arts Series will bring worldclass opera and Broadway performers, as well as a variety of visiting art exhibits and individual musical recitals and concerts. Ouachita’s School of Fine Arts will complement the Art Series with a wide-array of musical concerts, recitals and opera production; plays, musicals, dramas; and both faculty and senior art exhibits. During my first year at Ouachita, I am looking forward to learning more about the many offerings of our excellent School of Fine Arts. This year’s Arts Series will give me an opportunity to experience the wide-ranging talents of our music, theatre, and visual arts students, as well as the unique presentations by outstanding guest artists who will come our way. Matthew Lipman
Cole Burger is an instructor at Bowling Green State University, where he teaches piano pedagogy. He also teaches applied piano, chamber music and music theory at Lutheran Summer Music and Camp Encore/Coda. As a solo and collaborative pianist, Burger has performed throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia. He has won several prizes at national and international piano performance competitions. He has given lectures, presentations, and masterclasses at the local to international levels and holds degrees in piano performance and economics from Northwestern University and the University of Texas.
Pianist Youmee Kim has appeared in performance in recitals, on concert series, at festivals and conferences in Canada, Serbia, South Korea, Taiwan and across the U.S. – most recently to high acclaim at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. A specialist in American contemporary piano music, she received degrees from Ewha Womans University in Korea (B.M.), Indiana University (M.M., Diploma), and Ohio State University (D.M.A.) in piano performance. She is currently assistant professor of piano at Ohio University.
One of the most sought after proponents of his instrument, Lipman was the only violist recently featured on WFMT Chicago’s list of “30 Under 30” top international classical musicians. Mr. Lipman is a founding member of Málaga#Clásica, an electrifying chamber music festival in Málaga, Spain. Born in Chicago, Lipman began studying music at the age of 10, later attended the Music Institute of Chicago and was a proud recipient of the inaugural Kovner Fellowship at the Juilliard School. The winner of the CMS2 auditions, he will start a three-year residency next season with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.
Dr. David Korevaar Dr. Jane Chu Raised on the Ouachita campus, Chu earned a bachelor’s degree in piano performance and music education from OBU and master’s degrees in music and piano pedagogy from Southern Methodist University. Additionally, Chu earned a master’s degree in business administration from Rockhurst University and a PhD in philanthropic studies from Indiana University. In addition to her background in arts administration and philanthropy, Chairman Chu is an accomplished artist and musician. She leads a dedicated and passionate group of people at the National Endowment for the Arts to support and fund the arts and creative activities in communities across the nation.
Pianist David Korevaar balances his active career as a soloist and chamber musician with teaching at the University of Colorado – Boulder, where he is the Peter and Helen Weil Professor of Piano. Korevaar has performed and taught in Kazakhstan and Tajikistan as a cultural envoy sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. Korevaar began his piano studies at age six, and by age 20 he had earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Juilliard School, where he also completed his Doctor of Musical Arts degree. He is a Kawai artist and resides with his family in Boulder, Colo., and Dallas, Texas.
Amy Pfrimmer A dedicated teacher and energetic performer, Amy Pfrimmer’s singing career encompasses a wide variety of repertoire, including opera, operetta, concert, recital and musical theatre. Pfrimmer is an alumna of the distinguished young artist programs of the Florida Grand Opera, Virginia Opera and Chautauqua Opera. She received her Master of Music degree from Loyola University and her Bachelor of Music degree from Louisiana State University. In 2012, Pfrimmer was named the Lillian Gerson Watsky Professor in Voice at Tulane University where she currently serves as assistant professor of music.

Jason Weisinger
Hailed as the “Paganini of the Steelpan,” Liam Teague serves as head of steelpan studies and associate professor of music at Northern Illinois University and co-directs the NIU Steelband. He is also steelband director at Birch Creek Music Performance Center in Door County, Wis. Teague has received many awards in his homeland of Trinidad and Tobago and at notable competitions. Teague also has collaborated with many prominent musicians and has given presentations at several Percussive Arts Society International Conventions and educational institutions throughout the world. Many of his own compositions are published, and he has recorded eight albums to date.
Jacob Keith Watson is a proud OBU graduate and Arkansas native. Some of Jacob’s favorite credits include the Tonynominated revival of Violet starring Sutton Foster with the Roundabout Theatre Company, the national/international tour of Chicago the Musical, the acclaimed Encores! revival of 1776, and the world premiere of Amélie at Berkeley Rep. Upcoming projects include a PreBroadway engagement of Amélie at the Ahmanson Theatre in L.A. starring Hamilton’s Phillipa Soo. Jacob currently resides in New York City with his wife and fellow OBU grad, Elisabeth Hipp, as well as their two pet babies Rosie and Lucia.
In demand as a vocalist, pianist, vocal coach and composer, Jason Weisinger has been praised as “satisfying, occasionally sublime” by the Boston Globe. As a pianist, Weisinger regularly collaborates with up-and-coming vocalists, including Michael Maliakel, Mikki Sodergren, Talya Lieberman and, as part of the 53rd NATS National Conference, 2012 National Music Theater Competition Winner Jacob Keith Watson. Weisinger is an alumnus of Fall Island Vocal Arts Seminar, the Tanglewood Music Center, Songfest (as a Marc and Eva Stern fellow) and Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.

Aaron Calvert
Arnold Rawls has delighted audiences with his unique combination of vocal and dramatic skills in performances ranging from art song to opera. His Radamès recently thrilled audiences as he “rose to the occasion, singing the famous “Cleste Aïda” with a creamy tone and a beautiful sense of Italian lyricism. It included a dazzling high B-flat that seemed to ring for an eternity.” (Omaha World Herald) He is a recipient of a major grant from the Ogla Forrie Foundation and has now joined the Foundation as an Artistic Advisor.
Stephen Watson is an American sculptor known for his floor installations of fragrant herbs and spices. He creates site-specific, conceptually significant artworks for display in contemporary art galleries, public spaces and churches. He serves as assistant professor of art at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala. His recent solo installations include: Watch Your Step at Valdosta State University, Animate Dust at Missouri Valley College, Transitivity at University of Washington – Bothell and Fleeting Worship at Georgia Tech University.
Calvert is professor of art at Henderson State University. His work is part of the permanent collection at the Sanbao Ceramic Art Institute in Jingdezhen, China. Calvert’s work has been anthologized in three books published by Lark Books and in national magazines such as Ceramic Monthly. A native of Medina, Ohio, Calvert studied ceramics and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Kent State University and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.
