MISS OUACHITA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY 2023
I have had the pleasure of serving as your Miss Ouachita Baptist University for the past year, but now my time has come to a close. Saying goodbye to a title I have held so near and dear to my heart is bittersweet. I will always cherish the memories and friends I have made along the way. I have held many titles within the Miss Arkansas Organization, but having the opportunity to serve my university and my peers has been my favorite job so far. The student body, faculty, staff, Miss OBU board, my EEE sisters, sponsors and my family have been the best supporters throughout my reign. After competing in Miss Arkansas as Miss South Arkansas in June 2022, I received the award of 4th runner-up. I knew the only title I cared about after that point was Miss OBU. I have been told university titles are special, but I was unaware of just how impactful they can be. My time as Miss OBU was nothing short of incredible. I was able to make many appearances and visits throughout the year to schools, fundraisers, galas, balls, banquets, parades, Rotary Club meetings and 5Ks. I spent my year meeting people in our community here and all over the state as a representative of Ouachita. Wearing the university title over my heart all year gave me a sense of peace and pride in the establishment I am blessed to call home. The Christ-centered learning environment here also promotes a sense of comradery amongst the student body. The day after my crowning, I left for a 3-day Ouachita Singers Ensemble tour to Northwest Arkansas to help recruit for the school. The entire trip, my name was officially “Miss OBU.” Even the students we met at the high schools were made aware of the fact that I was, in fact, the Miss OBU. I have so many fond memories from this past year, but my happiest moments are tied to when I had the opportunity to promote my social impact initiative, Champions For Childhood Cancer Awareness. I want to support families facing treatment and raise awareness of the need for continued funding and research. When I began doing pageants a few years ago, I didn’t understand the power of platform and influence. I had been awarded scholarships, flowers, and a crown and sash at the 2023 Miss OBU competition. I did not anticipate the ability I would have to make a difference in people’s lives. I partnered with the Ouachita football team to host the “Be the Match” donor drive. During the past two years, more than 300 people have joined the registry to be a bone marrow donor for someone in the future. I volunteer for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Arkansas and had the chance to serve meals at Christmastime, volunteer at their annual Chocolate Fantasy Ball and serve at their booth at the Buzz BBQ event. My favorite memory was working outside the Little Rock Zoo with more than 11 schools to collect thousands of pop tabs to donate to the RMCHA location. Serving with this title over my heart has been my proudest accomplishment throughout this past year. I was able to represent the university at the annual statewide Miss Arkansas pageant in June. The amount of hard work and hours put into prep for the week was all worth it to me knowing
I had an army of people supporting me. I cannot thank enough my director Sarah Teed and the Miss OBU board for how well they prepared me for this summer. The mock interviews, stage practice and wardrobe prep were so beneficial leading up to my competition week. I want to thank Sarah Teed and Susan Derby for their incredible wisdom and advice throughout my year. I want to thank every single person who sent me a letter or shared words of encouragement with me. Getting to represent Ouachita and its values throughout the competition week was a blessing and an honor. I was able to walk away from the week with several scholarships and a placement in the Top 15 finalists. I couldn’t have asked for a greater experience with the friendships I was able to foster with girls from all over our state. I have not only earned more than $21,000 in scholarship funds through my years in the organization, but I have gained confidence and truly learned the value of service. Service is an integral part of the Miss Arkansas Organization. I was honored to serve in every aspect of this title whether I was on or off campus, in my crown or just on the way to class. Serving in this title will forever be one of my most special memories at Ouachita. I was even able to be Miss OBU during my time as a Tiger Tunes host, News Show producer, and when I was awarded 2nd runner-up for Homecoming Queen. This incredible year cannot be summed up in words, but it can be summed up by the reflection of the Lord’s faithfulness in my life. This year has impacted me mentally, physically and emotionally for years to come. Thank you, Ouachita, for the opportunity to represent the place I will always call my home away from home. To the next Miss OBU, soak in every memory and moment spent holding this title, because time flies when you are having fun.
