Principal’s Report Tihei Mauri Ora! E nga mana, e ngā reo, e ngā manuhiri tuarangi, tēnā koutou katoa. Seymour Papert, a pioneer in Artificial Intelligence, once said in 1998, “All skills will become obsolete except one, the skill of being able to make the right response to situations that are outside the scope of what you were taught in school. We need to produce people who know how to act when they are faced with situations for which they were not specifically prepared.” This insight resonates profoundly today, more than ever, as the past four years have taught us the npredictability of the world, the certainty of change, and the disruptive nature of technological advancements. Our approach to preparing students for such unforeseen challenges involves nurturing their potential academically, culturally, in the arts, and through sports. This thinking is encapsulated by and through our school’s graduate profile. Preparing our students for an ever changing world is more important now than ever. So as I reflect back on 2023, I am immensely proud of how our college is setting our students up for a successful life beyond school. We began the year with outstanding NCEA results at Levels 1, 2, and 3, highlighting the collaboration between our dedicated teachers and hardworking students. For three consecutive years, our students have surpassed the NCEA national average at all levels, demonstrating their remarkable resilience and determination. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all our students for their dedication and discipline in their studies. Special accolades go to our academic champions Megan Sushames, our Science/Technology Dux; Chiara Lammenett, our Arts/Humanities Dux; and our Proxime Accessit recipients, Karlia Taylor and Hyerin Cho. Their achievements are a testament to the academic excellence at our school. I wish them and all our Year 13 students the best as they plan for their future. It has been a privilege to accompany these wonderful young people on their five-year journey, and I am confident they are poised for a future filled with opportunities and success. While students achieving to their academic potential is a cornerstone of this college, we also place a high degree of value in a holistic education. In 2023, our students shone in various arts disciplines, including a fantastic production of SpongeBob: the Musical, and excelled in music, dance, and drama. In sports, our girls’ squash team retained the national secondary squash title for the third consecutive year. This is a remarkable feat, and is unlikely to be repeated. This feat complements other impressive performances in artistic swimming, wrestling, artistic roller skating, underwater hockey, BMX, and beach volleyball to name but a few. I also wish to congratulate Devlin Langton and Grace Duncan for being named Sports Boy and Girl of the Year, respectively. A special thank you to our staff for their relentless dedication to our students’ success. My gratitude also extends to the parents, guardians, and students who volunteered in various roles, your support has been invaluable. I also wish to acknowledge our School Board Members for their steadfast support and commitment to our students’ holistic development. Their dedication has been a significant pillar of support for me. Head Students 2023 We believe the most important part of our five year journey at Ōtumoetai College is that we have navigated it together. Our whakatauki has always been he waka eke noa - we are all in this together. Together we have succeeded and celebrated our achievements, together we have struggled at times, made mistakes, and through that, learnt more about ourselves and each other. Together we have grown up, well most of us, even if we didn’t realise it at the time. So much has changed from the time we first walked through those gates to now. We may have started out wanting to be firefighters or doctors, but we’ve slowly become individuals with goals that align with our values and the difference we want to make in the world. With a breadth of resources and a school community to fall back on, we have the support to pathe the life we want to lead. It is not without sadness that we leave behind this place. But it is with confidence that Ōtumoetai College has done their part and will continue to educate well rounded and balanced individuals. Now is the time to thank all of the amazing people who have helped us along the way and say our goodbyes as we prepare for the exciting journey and endless opportunities ahead of us. We say goodbye to our teachers, our classmates, our friends, and our family as we leave in search of our future, in search of a new purpose in the outside world. All we take with us is our memories of people and places, our friendships, and as our teachers hope, everything we have learnt in the past 13 years. We leave behind laughter and conversations that echo between the walls of our classrooms, we leave behind the impressions we made on our teachers and younger students, and hopefully we don’t leave behind any gum under the desks that we sat at for five years. We would like to endlessly thank our year level leader team, Mrs Nicholson, Mr Wilson, and Mrs Brown. Throughout our five years, these wonderful people have led us throughout the highs and lows of college. We also thank the Year 13 form teachers, who have equally and constantly supported all of us through the years. We will be forever grateful for your help and love. And finally, we would like to thank our principal, Mr Gordon, who has also been looking out for us since our beginnings as kids with backpacks taller than us. Without the support of all of our whanau here at Ōtumoetai College, we would not be where we are today. We will never forget the impact you have made on us all. Now is the time to celebrate our journey and look forward to the future with ambition, optimism, and an open mind. We wish every single one of you the best for wherever life takes you and we encourage you to seek meaningful connections, listen more than you speak, follow what matters most to you, be resilient, and most importantly enjoy the ride.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES STUDENT REP REPORT Our five years at this college have certainly been an adventure; we’ve overcome challenges, navigated through the frequently stressful student life, and made lifelong memories that have formed who we are today. We have brought about change to the school that will forever benefit the students to come, while also creating bonds with others that will last a lifetime. Despite some students having a collection of bathroom locks, others have a collection of experiences that will benefit them in the coming years, thanks to our wonderful teachers and staff at our school - special thanks to Mrs. Nicholson, Mr. Wilson, and Mrs. Brown, who have been a fantastic team and role models for all of our kura. While a few students somehow managed to maintain good grades through COVID-19, we all scraped through the struggles of lockdown and online learning, attesting to our dedication and perseverance - we have made it through an experience never seen before. Our mantra, ‘he waka eke noa’, became more true than initially intended; we certainly were in the same boat through the challenges we faced, only bringing us closer. Though our NCEA journey is just now coming to an end, the friendships, laughter, and memories made will never be forgotten. Similarly, we definitely won’t forget Mr. Gordon; his speeches and stories have inspired many of us through the obstacles thrown at us. Since 2019, he has always been there to guide and care for the entire student body, and for that, we will always be grateful. So as the chapter closes on our college life, the memories we’ve made along the way will stay with us forever. For younger students, make sure you get involved in the opportunities available at our school - you won’t regret it. And for leavers, whether you’re planning on committing to tertiary study, taking a gap year, apprenticeship, or working, good luck - and don’t forget us if you become famous. WHAT IS IT?

MONEY

This position will teach you how to become a better leader and want to make positive changes to the school. Leadership means being able to guide people towards the right decisions and wanting to enable them to make a difference.

Part of the role is attending Board of Trustees meetings each month. This means writing a report and presenting it to the Board. You will also be able to share a student’s perspective on issues that you believe are important.

As the Student Board of Trustees Rep, you will also have the chance to earn some money as these representatives are paid for the meetings they attend.

This leadership position allows you insight into the governance of a school, it opens the door to many other opportunities and gives you a big upper hand in university or job applications, along with general life skills. All the opportunities provided to Head Students are provided to the Student Rep too - they’re basically a fifth Head Student. The only difference is Head Students don’t get free food at Board Meetings. Over the last year, I’ve been presented with so many amazing opportunities. The Head Students and I have completed a University paper on Leadership Communication with the Head Students, and also had so many opportunities to give back to the community through fundraisers and other initiatives. You’re also able to make changes to the school through talking with other staff and students. It’s a great opportunity to get to know others from different year levels - even Year 9s - and work to improve our college.

RETIREMENTS – Ian Watson Ian Watson is unique. Ian was born two days after Christmas in 1958 and grew up in South Auckland as an only son with three sibling sisters. He was THE man, the fix–it man who came to be called upon for everything. When he had time, he attended James Cook High School and when he left school took initial employment as an apprentice and later a tradesman at Air New Zealand. However, despite not being a model student himself, he concluded that a teaching career would gain him more satisfaction than working for the rest of his life on the rear end of a plane and provide him also with long holidays to enjoy all his sporting interests. At age 24, he started teaching at Manurewa High School (they probably would never have let him back into James Cook High School!) and there he stayed eight years living in Wiri and where the two boys – Stuart and Michael were born. He applied to Ōtūmoetai College on 11 December 1989, for a PR1 as the assistant to HOD of Technical – one, Ross Davidson. Appointed by Peter Malcolm on 22 January 1990, Peter requested that he arrive by the end of the following week, Ian complied and so began 34 years on the staff. His salary on arrival was $41,885 so Ian that was a long time ago and now you are a wealthy man with a much larger salary! Ian and Ross both applied for Teacher Study Awards in 1995 and both were successful which meant that Ian was HOD for the first half of the year and then absent for the second half of the year. His return in 1996 saw the addition of now another PR unit meaning a total of two Units. A further MMA was added in 2011. Ian has a formidable intellect, is a very avid reader and has many interests both in and out of school. He sought to grow and expand his career by becoming involved in NZQA moderation back in 1997 when the School Certificate exam introduced an internal weighting and then when NCEA commenced Ian travelled around the country completing the work. Ian became the schools Health and safety officer and has filled this role admirably. In 2008, Ian taught the top Technology student in the country, at the time the second only Top Scholar at Ōtūmoetai College. In 2016, Ian completed the requirements to be appointed a Justice of the Peace, an action he took when he noticed how often JP services were required by the college and how difficult it was to track one down. In 2017 he was appointed to the Ōtūmoetai College in school Kahu Ako role which he has found immensely satisfying. Ian has been the recipient of several study awards; a 14-week award in 2010 permitted Ian and the other technical staff to complete a qualification to move to the top of the salary scale. Ian studied part time and graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor of Technology Education from Waikato University. Ian studied Te Reo part time and graduated with a Te Kunenga o Te Reo Level 4. This resulted in another award in 2018 allowing Ian time to spend at the Kura immersed in Te Reo. A keen sportsman, sailing is his real passion. Ian has always been a yachtie person involved in the local boat club, he has had past and still current shared ownership in a racing yacht which he races at least once a week. He also helps with the ladies’ yacht racing team which I can assure you he greatly enjoys! He coached the college yachting team for a decade. Taking them a second and third place at National level, only giving up in 2001 to spend more time with his sons. His retirement from that role saw him honoured as the BOP Sport’s Coach of the month. A devoted father, he has been heavily involved with all aspects of his son’s sporting and musical careers to the extent of proposing an idea to strengthen the floor of the Rec centre to fill such with sand to replicate a beach for an indoor beach volleyball tournament. The idea did not proceed. Ian has been heavily involved in Michael’s very successful volleyball career. Ian’s other son, Stuart has become a very successful businessman ably guided by his father. Ian is in every way a real ‘tech bloke’. He always has at least one project on the go. Some that are remembered include: building a convertible Mini, building three campervans, the major refurbishment of a Zephyr single person sailing yacht along with an enclosed trailer, a complete restoration of a triumph Spitfire – this is still on-going – and what seems endless house renovations for himself and now his son Michael. There have been a few accidents along the way, hit by a boom in very rough water on the harbour and saw him nearly drown and he would have to be the only bloke known that has taken on a train in a mini and come out unscathed! In 2015 we were able to get Ian MOE funding to take part in the Zephyr week-long yacht race and every year he would make his way to the DP’s office wanting three days off to participate in the Tauranga to Auckland Yacht race. There was no funding for that but knowing Ian’s contribution and commitment to the college, every year the DP agreed. Ian has given his all and now on behalf of those past and present we simply say - THANK YOU.

RETIREMENTS – Jo Mawer Jo was born in Waipukurau in the Hawke’s Bay in 1958 and that is when she attended the local primary school and, in 1971, commenced her secondary education at Central Hawke’s Bay College. However, after two years, the family moved to Tokoroa where Jo attended Tokoroa High School – lead by Tom Ryan – from 1973 to 1975. Waikato University called and Jo moved into Hamilton where over the next five years, she completed a Masters of Social Science which she gained with Honours in Economics. She spent her last two years at university tutoring in Economics to gain some well needed cash. 1981 was the year Jo spent at the Waikato College of Teacher Education and then she was already to go for her first year of teaching at Ngaruawahia High School. After two years there it was back into Hamilton for two teaching at Fraser High School. By now Jo had met one Carl Mawer – also a teacher - and together they decided life would be much more enjoyable by a beach and so at the end of 1985, off went the applications to Mount Maunganui College. They were – of course – successful and so began three years of teaching Mathematics and Economics. The birth of their first child Joshua towards the end of 1988 meant a temporary end to full time teaching and when Casey was born two years later there was no going back fulltime. The family unit was completed by the birth of Jordan in 1994 and Jo was not to return to full time teaching until 2001. During these years – besides regularly meeting with a group of young mothers who still meet up together every Friday even now for a wine – Jo did some day relieving, some part time teaching and for four years, she was the chief supervisor of the Mount College’s NZQA exams. In 2001, she took to a full time relieving position at Mount College and then at the very end of that year Ōtūmoetai College advertised a full time relieving position in Mathematics. Jo applied and the very last task of that year for Dave Randell and Bruce Farthing was to interview Jo on 18th December very late in the day. They still remember the interview and talking with Jo about getting over the bridge and through the traffic to get to Ōtūmoetai College. Jo must have seen the traffic just get worse and worse over the 22 years she have been on the staff. Jo’s relieving position was made permanent in October 2002 and by 2006, she held a Unit in the Maths Department to assist with all the responsibilities. In 2007, she was appointed an in-school facilitator for the Numeracy project run through her old university and then, in 2013, she added to her responsibilities by being appointed Year 9 Dean and she very successfully led that year group through for five years. So successful she was as a Dean that the following year, she stepped into the breech as Year 13 Dean for a term. Jo inputted into the collaborative teaching required by the open learning environment at the base of F Block and has regularly been called upon over all these years for quiet counsel in the teaching of mathematics. Jo is very kind, always highly organised but with the one exception of regularly losing her keys! Somehow they always turn up! Over these years there have been periods of family time away in Australia; in 2012 when both her elder children graduated at the same time, and then again in 2018 to go and visit Joshua in Europe. Jo is an avid reader and the only disagreement the DP ever had with Jo was when she told him she just hated the book The Luminaries and just could not finish it while on the other hand, the DP just could not put the book down and absolutely loved it. They simply agreed to disagree. Now grandparents, Jo and Carl love to spend as much time as possible with the grandees. Jo prepared herself for retirement being part time for the last two years and now the time has come. Time to walk on the beach, read even more books – the DP will not offer suggestions - and simply do whatever you want to do. Enjoy yourself with the family and may it be all that you want. Thank you for all that you have done for the college. 38

RETIREMENTS – Jude Brown Judith Ann Brown was born on 12 February 1957 in Hastings in the Hawkes Bay where she spent all her early life. A member of a large family – two brothers and three sisters – she attended Mayfair Primary School and then Karamu High School where, in her final year, she gained her Higher School certificate and was accredited her University Entrance in five subjects. Jude moved on to Otago University – as far from Hastings as she could legitimately go – where she graduated with a major in Geography in 1978. A year at Christchurch Teacher’s College and then a return to Southland to start her teaching at Menzies College. Why – one would ask – did she head back to the cold of the deep south? The straightforward answer is that she had fallen in love with a southern man named Daryl Brown. The newly married Jude taught at Menzies College until 1985 when at the end of that year son Rory was born and son Ashley arrived 20 months later in July 1987. Jude took five years out of teaching to be a mum and returned in 1991 to St Peter’s College in Gore for two years before an appointment to Gore High School where she taught for ten years. Keen to move her career forward she returned to where she started – Menzies College – as Deputy principal a position she held for eight years before Daryl eventually saw the light and realized that life in a warm climate meant an easier life. Jude was offered the position and accepted the position on 21 May 2010 – thirteen and a half years ago. Jude left Daryl in the deep south to sort everything out while she travelled north, lived with an old Aunt, went house hunting, and most importantly found a squash club that she could join. Daryl eventually found his way north, but it was not an easy journey as the car ‘blew up’ halfway up the North Island. Jude was not happy! Jude’s CV – which she submitted on-application – concludes: “I believe that education systems must work beyond structured boundaries to involve all groups that influence learning, including parents and the local community.” Jude has spent the last thirteen and a half years putting this belief into practice to the betterment of very many students, staff and families. She is a constant enthusiast for outdoor Education and your establishment and development of the Duke of Edinburgh programme in this college – and at Menzies College – is to be admired and commended. She has given many hours of time and worked very hard to support and help grow the students and encouraged other staff to become involved in the programme. Her constant support for students from every walk of life can be seen in the considerable effort she put into overseeing AE and the improvements she made happen in the system to get students back on track. A big challenge for Jude was picking up the behaviour focus across the school, which has been a huge amount of work and she also implemented such across the AE centres. She has supported the deans amazingly – they all call her ‘Mama Jude’. She has always supported the work of Te Wero - the focus on Māori achievement, and been part of the planning team for the Māori and Pasifika Awards, now called Te Moana Nui A Kiwa Awards. Jude has also been instrumental in supporting Kahui Ako to develop a Hauora model and all the community, student and staff consultation that went with that as well as NZCER data gathering and analysis. She has consistently supported Restorative Practice in the school. A really passionate teacher, Jude’s real love is the Social Sciences, and this carried through into a real interest in what was the building structure that would best fit with current pedagogical thinking. To further this interest, Jude was awarded the staff scholarship in 2013. After more than one application, Jude was awarded a Teacher’s sabbatical in 2018 which she used to further her interest in school design. It is a real pity that Jude retires before all comes to fruition on this site. She and Daryl spent an enjoyable time in Europe even given the narrow one-way street incident in Spain when Daryl drove in the wrong direction! Jude has been a great member of the SLT – always friendly, supportive, and very kind with the best interests of all at heart. Wednesday morning meeting always heard the squash score from the night before, the travel stories of when she was in the Middle East, the lovely stories, and photos of the boy’s weddings in Northland and Queensland and the joy of the birth of the grandchildren. A new life awaits, more travel, more time with those grandchildren in Matua and above all time for yourself to walk down the beach and simply do what you want to do. Thank you.

ANZAC DAY

I volunteered to speak here today because both my great great grandfathers had fought in World War 1 and 2. This was an opportunity to learn the real impact these wars had on my family and thousands of others. I recently looked through photos, letters, medals, and notebooks my family has kept from the wars. I was surprised at how different the lives people lived were. Their biggest worry was not whether they would pass their essay, it was if their previous conversation would be their last. It has allowed me to connect with past generations of my family and our country in a deep and personal way. My great great grandfather, Henry George Burton, who’s medals I wear today, fought towards the end of World War 1 by putting his age up. In World War 2, he served with the 25th Battalion, but this time he had a wife and four children, one being my great grandad. I am grateful I will never feel the fear and uncertainty my great grandad felt wondering when or if his dad would come home. Today I honour the sacrifices the soldiers and their families made to allow us to live in safety and peace. Stories of war are filled with terror and loss, but also with courage, comradery and sometimes miracles. Percy Frederick Wilson, another of my great great grandfathers, was at Gallipoli. He survived being shot by a sniper, as the bullet hit his ammunition belt across his chest, stopping it penetrating his body. It is important for all stories of war, both good and bad, to be shared at gatherings like these for upcoming generations. With them comes learning and gratitude. Gratitude that our lives look different to those of our ancestors, but also the understanding that it could happen again. In New Zealand we are incredibly sheltered from the horror stories of war happening right now in places like Ukraine. Unfortunately on an international scale we are not past violence and war as a means to making something happen, but there is a balance that we must maintain between standing up for what we deem is right and compromising the lives of our people. 108 years after the ANZACs landed at gallipoli we have the power of hindsight. We are fortunate enough to have not directly experienced the devastating impact of war. We live in a country where freedom and acceptance is more of a reality today than it has ever been before. I challenge you to use your freedom to stand up for what you believe in and to find your purpose and follow it. We owe it to those that fought, to those that lost their lives for our country, and to those that lived to see peace on the other side, but could never escape the recollection of battle and the fall of their comrades. Today we stand together to commemorate the bravery and unity of the Australian and New Zealand Soldiers and are reminded that our history will always be an integral part of who we are as a nation. LEADERSHIP INSTEP YOUNG LEADERS The Instep Young Leaders Forum is a leadership space where secondary students from across Tauranga have the opportunity to connect, learn and grow. Three to four year 12 or 13 students are selected to join this programme, inviting us into an environment where we begin to build connections for our future. Every month, we would all meet at different businesses and organisations to learn about what they did, who they were, and how it had an impact on Tauranga, while also being involved in workshops to develop us further as leaders. Being a year 13 on this programme brought me some amazing opportunities, attending the Festivals for the Future event in Wellington over three days, co-hosting a panel at the careers expo, and lastly dining at a VIP table at the BOP Young Growers Gala dinner.

DALE CARNEGIE SCHOLARSHIP This year, Angus Scott and Mia Mackenzie were lucky enough to be the chosen recipients of the Dale Carnegie Youth Scholarship, enabling them to attend a three day personal development course. There, they learnt the Dale Carnegie five drivers of success: building greater self-confidence, strengthening people skills, enhancing communication skills, developing leadership skills and reducing stress and worry. While they grew as people during the three days, they also grew amongst themselves - creating valuable friendships with students from other schools in Tauranga.

Katy Mcleod, Lucy Rout and Faenza Ricardi entered the film they made in English class to the International Youth Silent Film Festival and they made the nationals. The New Zealand competition was held at Baycourt theatre where they won 'Best Shot' , and were nominated for 'Best Wahine Filmmaker' and 'Best Cinematography.'

KIA TOKA TŪ MOANA - NAVIGATING THE WAVES OF SUCCESS - A REFLECTION ON SPORT AT ŌTŪMOETAI COLLEGE IN 2023 In the ebb and flow of competitive sports, Ōtūmoetai College stood resolute in 2023, weathering both traditional team sports and individual athletic pursuits with unwavering strength. This reflective journey throughout the year celebrates the triumphs, acknowledges the integral role of teachers in charge of sport, bids farewell to esteemed colleagues, and welcomes fresh perspectives, innovations, and new beginnings. Ōtūmoetai College experienced a year of unprecedented success across a spectrum of sports. Traditional team sports and individual endeavours both experienced their moments in the spotlight. The resounding achievements of our student-athletes on the world stage, proudly representing New Zealand, marked a pinnacle in the school's sporting history. Guided by the powerful whakataukī kia toka tū moana, our sports teams embodied resilience in the face of challenges. Standing steadfast and strong like the great rock in the ocean, we stood together, strong and undeterred by the size or relentlessness of the waves. This whakataukī encapsulated the unity and determination that fuelled our teams and individual student-athletes to overcome adversities and achieve great new heights. Behind every victorious team and accomplished athlete stood the unwavering dedication of our teachers in charge of sport. Their tireless efforts in growing and solidifying their respective sports have been instrumental in this year's sporting success. Their passion for fostering a love for both physical activity and competition has left an indelible mark on the Ōtūmoetai College sports community. As we bid farewell to the invaluable contributions of Paul Braddock and Abbie Johnston - who played pivotal roles in shaping the sports culture at Ōtūmoetai college - we embrace new beginnings. The arrival of Dennis Playford and Emma Henderson injects fresh energy into the sports department, joining the team of Chris Matheson, Debbie McBride, and Ian Ridgway.

The opening of our new Strength & Conditioning facility at the beginning of Term 2 emphasised the importance of periodised physical development, ensuring the holistic growth of our students. In the spirit of unity, we extend heartfelt gratitude to all our staff members, community coaches and managers, supportive parents, and most importantly our committed and enthusiastic students. The collective effort of these pillars of support is the bedrock upon which our sporting success in 2023 rests. Thank you for contributing to a year of resilience, triumphs, and collective growth. WANTED

As Teacher in Charge of TREK again for 2023, one of the best parts of putting this publication together is reading about all the incredible things our students have achieved this year, despite 2023 bringing more disruption to our kaiako and ākonga. From successes on the field, the stage, or the screen, 2023 has again seen our ākonga earn regional, national, and international accolades across multiple disciplines. As the most significant archival publication our college has, we are so, so thrilled to be able to share this with you all. For a second year, TREK is distributed in a digital format. Our team of TREKKIES are wonderfully talented students with a keen and discerning eye for design and we wanted this year to be more eye-catching, more colourful, and bigger than 2022. As always, putting together a publication of this size and magnitude would not have been possible without the help and input of some exceptional people at Ōtūmoetai College. We would like to thank Karen Raikes who offered much sage advice and guidance on the use of the Adobe programmes so that we would be able to format this correctly. We would like to thank Frances McAdam, English teacher extroadinaire, who gave many hours to this project to help with proofreading. We also need to thank all the Heads of Departments, our teachers, our coaches, administrators, volunteers, and members of our wider school community for making sure all information was shared to us in such a timely manner this year, allowing us to have more time to dedicate to the creative aspect of this magazine. We also need to thank Carolyn Harrowfield and Vanessa Gibbs – our college Librarians. As the TREK Committee, we were huddled away at the back of the library, sitting and staring at screens for weeks and, every day, these lovely wāhine allowed us to use the space to work constantly on putting these pages together. An enormous thank you also needs to go to Viv Couch without whom - quite frankly - this publication would not exist. And finally, the biggest thank you needs to go to the three outstanding Year 10 students who are the reasons you are reading this publication today. Assembling more than 100 pages of content is a daunting enough task as it is, but having these three incredible students work tirelessly on the design aspects of TREK has made this feel like a truly collaborative passion project. To Zen, Aadit and Catelyn – you have been true assets to the TREK committee and it has been a pleasure working with you again. I am so unbelievably proud of this final publication and I hope that you have enjoyed reading TREK as much as we enjoyed putting it together.
