Great insurance starts with a great agent

A MESSAGE TO YOU

I want to take this opportunity to welcome all of you to the 2025-26 Oshawa Generals OHL season. As always not only a welcome to the legions of returning fans, but for all of the new fans as well. Welcome to Gens Nation!!!

The large number of players that you will be seeing on the ice this season will be coming off back to back OHL championship finals appearances. A great accomplishment but we all know we fell short of our ultimate goal of winning the Robertson trophy and going to the Memorial Cup. The real success of this years team is to return to that level. Three years ago we finished in eighth place followed by a first place and fourth place regular season finishes respectively. The first-place finish and back-to-back finals appearances were the result of the building blocks being put in place seasons before and the team growing up together. Winning doesn’t happen by accident, and it must be done by doing things the right way.

The men in charge of that will be led by Mario Pouliot and his winning pedigree in junior hockey. Mario will push these players to places they may not have been before but trusting a coach that has won two Memorial Cups the reboot should move quickly. Mike Farrugia will be in his third season behind the bench, and they will be joined by newcomer Derrick Walser who most recently coached in the WHL with the Red Deer Rebels. Derrick was part of the Peterborough Pete’s coaching staff that won the OHL championship and competed in the Memorial Cup in 2023.

The hockey landscape as we know it, is changing and the people to benefit the most will be you the fans and the players. Fans will get to see young players live that they may never have been able to see before. Players with NCAA commits that may have played in other leagues to preserve their eligibility are free to explore the OHL now before going to school. Players will have the opportunity to extend their playing careers and get the best of both worlds. I suspect by the end of this upcoming season we may have half of our players with NCAA commits. However, make no mistake the OHL/CHL will remain the industry leader in producing NHL draft picks. Look no further then our own Simon Wang and Owen Griffin who had their names called for the San Jose Sharks and the Columbus Blue Jackets respectively this past June in LA.

Now you must play your part and fill this building every night. Give these guys true home ice advantage and push them to be there best night in and night out. Go Gens Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As we prepare to embark on our 88th year, we’re energized by what the future holds. While much has changed over the years, our expectations remain the same: to ice a competitive team with our sights set on returning to the finals. This year’s roster will feature an exciting blend of new talent and veteran leadership—a dynamic mix of size, skill, and relentless compete.

We can’t wait to welcome our loyal fans back to the rink and feel your support in the stands.

Starting in the new year, fans will begin to see major renovations take shape at the arena—a place the Generals have proudly called home for decades, and will continue to for years to come. These enhancements will honor our deep-rooted history while ushering in a new era of excellence, elevating the game-day experience for players and fans alike. From improved facilities to refreshed fan spaces, the upgrades will reflect the pride and spirit of the Oshawa community. This investment not only reinforces our commitment to the organization but celebrates the city we represent—with full completion slated for late 2027.

AROUND THE OHL

AS OF NOVEMBER 5TH

EAST DIVISION

KINGSTON FRONTENACS

The Kingston Frontenacs, who have proven to be a thorn in the Generals’ side in their first three meetings of the season, have been a formidable foe at times, but have recently struggled with four straight losses.

Even with the talents of Jacob Battaglia, Kieran Dervin and Tyler Hopkins among others, Kingston’s offense has been off to a slow start, despite some strong showings against Oshawa and a nine-goal game against the Petes earlier in the year, where Battaglia scored a hat trick.

So far, Kingston has proven to be a patient and steady unit, not only discipline wise as they are the least penalized team in the league, but defensively sound as well. Their main strength to this point has been their goaltending, with Matthew Minchak and Gavin Betts each putting up decent numbers between the pipes in their first full seasons with the team.

Hovering around .500, there is still plenty of time for the Frontenacs to find a spark. It is only a matter of time before they do so with their talent level. The Generals will not see their division rivals again until December 10th in Kingston.

CENTRAL DIVISION

BARRIE COLTS

Things have been looking up for the Barrie Colts lately, winners of four straight after a 3-7-0-3 start. They have stuck to their rough and tough play that the Generals are very familiar with in their playoff battles in recent years.

While the defense has been spotty, the Colts have kept up offensively and are ranked top-ten in that department. Cole Beaudoin has been red hot since returning from Utah’s camp with 22 points in 12 games to lead the team in scoring. Emil Hemming has also returned from the Dallas Stars and has put up seven points in his first three, further bolstering Barrie’s offense.

Kashawn Aitcheson has had a very impressive start, leading the Colts in goals with eleven from the blue line. Brad Gardiner, a former Ottawa 67, is second in scoring with 20 in his second year with the club. The line just keeps moving for Barrie with newcomers Alex Assadourian, Calvin Crombie, Joseph Salandra and more.

The Colts have gone about this season with a ‘next man up’ mentality that has paid off with plenty of depth. Now that their top players are back from NHL camps, the team looks even more dangerous, and it has showed in their recent play.

MIDWEST DIVISION

GUELPH STORM

In their first 16 games of the season, the Guelph Storm find themselves hovering around .500. As a team still in their developing stages, they find themselves middle of the pack in just about every category from offense to defense.

Inexperienced goaltending has been part of the issue for Guelph as both Zachary Jovanovski and Colin Ellsworth, in their first full seasons, each have Save Percentages below .900 and Goals Against Averages above three. Oshawa saw both of them in a 7-1 routing of the Storm earlier in the year.

Of positive note, Jett Luchanko is back from the Philadelphia Flyers and has not missed a beat. His return should give the offense a spark, already led by Carter Stevens and second overall selection, Jaakko Wycisk with seven goals each.

While things have looked bleak for the Storm to start the season, they have gotten some reinforcements back from NHL camps and have taken four of their last five contests. With the campaign still young, there is still a chance the team gets better.

WEST DIVISION

SOO GREYHOUNDS

Another team that the Gens have seen recently, the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds have put up a solid start to their season thanks to a solid offensive core filled with depth scoring, with nine players already up to ten points or higher.

Penguins’ prospect Jordan Charron leads the team in both goals with 14 and points with 20, along with Christopher Brown, Marco Mignosa and Quinn McKenzie also making contributions up front. Recently returning from the Nashville Predators, Brady Martin has been on fire in his first few games back and adds legitimate firepower to the lineup.

Two defenders have really stood out for the SOO: Chase Reid, in his sophomore season, and the team’s top Import selection, Jakub Winkelhofer, both terrific puck-movers with wicked releases that are projected to have massive seasons on the blue line.

While the SOO Greyhounds’ offense has been key in some victories, they are also building a gritty culture. As the Generals saw recently, they finish checks and clog up open ice to not allow many chances the other way, a very good formula for playoff hockey that they will hope to perfect as the season goes on.

OSHAWA GENERALS vs OWEN SOUND ATTACK

GAME DAY PREVIEW

The Oshawa Generals finish their five-game home stand with a matchup against the high-flying Owen Sound Attack.

After a hard-fought effort Friday night, where Oshawa came up a goal short against the tough Brantford Bulldogs, the Gens will look to carry that same energy and drive into tonight’s contest and end their long losing streak.

Owen Sound has other plans as they come in carrying an impressive start to their campaign, despite dropping their last two. The Attack are going for a 14th consecutive playoff appearance this season.

Ben Danford and Zack Sandhu made their returns to Oshawa Friday night, but two more ex-Generals come back to their old stomping grounds tonight: centre Tristan Delisle and defender David Bedkowski, both traded to Owen Sound last season as part of the Colby Barlow deal.

Delisle, drafted in the third round of the 2023 OHL Priority Selection by Oshawa, recorded 19 points in 66 games with the Generals and was part of the Gens’ run to the 2024 OHL Final.

Bedkowski was also part of that 2024 squad. The big, rugged defenseman was a second-round choice of the Generals in 2022 and suited up for 125 games for Oshawa, putting up 17 points.

Both have gone on to play solid roles for the Attack. Bedkowski has proven to be a great leader for the club, being named Owen Sound’s 29th captain at the start of the year while Delisle’s offensive game has taken steps forward as he leads the team in scoring with 28 points.

As the Attack make their lone trip to the TCC this season, Oshawa will look to shut down their strong offense that has the second-most goals in the league. The Gens took both matchups against Owen Sound last year, both by 4-3 margins in the early going of the campaign.

Going against his former team tonight, keep an eye out for Ben Cormier, who hopes to have another strong outing for the Generals. A former first round choice of Owen Sound, Cormier has gotten the attention of his coaches and teammates with his work ethic and drive that has only gotten better as of late. Cormier just picked up his first goal as a Gen Friday night.

On the other side, look out for Owen Sound’s leading goal man, Nicholas Sykora, with 13 tallies so far in his first OHL season. Coming over from the USHL, Sykora has proven to be a dangerous goal-scorer already with his blistering one-timer both on the power play and at even-strength. Sykora is also the son of long-time NHLer, Petr Sykora.

LAST GAME RECAP

NOVEMBER 7TH, 2025

The Oshawa Generals fell just short to the Brantford Bulldogs 5-4 Friday night in what was a high-event contest, particularly in a six-goal second period.

A special and intense game would commence as Ben Danford and Zack Sandhu played their first games back in Oshawa with their new team. It was also the first time both Aiden O’Donnell and long-time Bulldog, Lucas Moore faced their old club. This game was also a special night for Moore as it was his 250th in the OHL.

It would take just 78 seconds for the Bulldogs to get the ice breaker as Brooklin, ON, native Layne Gallacher put home a rebound shot from Luca Testa. Less than two minutes later, Jake O’Brien and Cooper Dennis connected on a two-on-one rush to make it 2-0. Danford sprung the rush and would be credited with the secondary assist.

The Generals would enter the second down two goals but would get a quick one from Harrison Franssen to start the period. Onni Kalto made a set up pass from the near-side boards and Franssen, in his first game back in the lineup, wired his fifth of the year over the glove of David Egorov.

Brantford quickly responded with their top line involved in another odd-man rush and O’Brien made a great stop-up pass to an open Marek Vanacker who one-timed it into a gaping cage.

Just eleven seconds later, the Gens got one right back thanks to Ben Cormier collecting his first in Oshawa as he tipped home a neat spin pass from O’Donnell from the slot. With that assist, O’Donnell earned his first point as a General as well.

The eventful second would continue as Owen Griffin was awarded a penalty shot after a Brantford player covered the puck in the goal crease. On the attempt, Griffin came in with speed from the left, cut back to the middle and snapped it under Egorov’s glove to tie it.

Brantford would come right back just nine seconds after the penalty shot equalizer. Danford entered the zone on another quick rush and fed O’Brien who tapped it through the five-hole of Cholette. The Bulldogs got another quick one on the power play after Adam Jiricek one-timed another terrific feed from O’Brien home.

After a valiant effort from Oshawa with three goals in the second, they still found themselves down two heading into the third. The final 20 started with less action than the first two periods, but the Generals gave it their all attempting to get the game tied back up.

The Gens mustered 15 shots in the final frame but Haoxi Wang’s lone goal with 5.6 seconds left would not be enough. Wang’s late tally was his first in the OHL after 43 games with Oshawa.

In the end, the Bulldogs add another statement win to their season after their stars once again came to play. Jake O’Brien proved why he is the league’s leading point-getter, recording four points tonight and has now scored nine points in three games against Oshawa this season.

The Generals kept things close against the top-seeded Bulldogs with a high compete level shown tonight. They even bumped their slight offensive slump with four goals on the night, their first multi-goal game since the 6-4 victory over Peterborough back on October 19th.

GENERALS SEASON PREVIEW

NEW ADDITIONS, RETURNING

FACES, TEAM OVERVIEW

A new OHL season is here, and the Oshawa Generals gear up for another year of competitive, tough-nosed, memorable and fun hockey.

Oshawa enters the 2025/26 campaign as the back-to-back defending Eastern Conference champions and look to avenge consecutive OHL Finals losses to the London Knights. However, with such a top-heavy conference, the goal is much easier said than done.

As well, with Jacob Oster, Luca D’Amato and Luke Torrance graduating last year, there will be some holes to fill throughout the roster from either new or returning players.

With that, here is an overview of what your Oshawa Generals will look like this season:

New Acquisitions

Despite a quiet off-season on the trade front, the Generals focused on improving the roster through the OHL Priority Selection, the CHL Import Draft and free agent signings.

In the OHL Priority Selection, Oshawa drafted 14 new players, three of which stood out in preseason and made the roster: winger Sam Roberts and defencemen Anthony Timmerman and Leo Laschon. Finnish winger Onni Kalto and Russian winger Vadim Smirnov have also made the roster after being selected in the CHL Import Draft.

Roberts, the 16th overall selection from the Toronto Jr. Canadiens in April, brings a similar, hard-nosed style game as his father, Gary. Timmerman, out of Rochester, MI, and Laschon from Pittsburgh, PA, also bring valuable depth to the Generals’ blue line. Kalto’s size and Smirnov’s skill should contribute nicely to Oshawa’s scoring depth as well.

Along with their recent draft selections, Oshawa also signed a wide variety of players to accompany team depth. Rowan Sang out of Kimball Union Academy and Porter Byrd-Leitner out of the Alberta Junior Hockey League were both signed just before preseason. Byrd-Leitner’s skill and talent along with Sang’s strong skating abilities make both left wingers well suited for the Generals’ forward core.

Also signed as FAs include Generals’ draft picks from years past in wingers Luke Posthumus and Jalen Lobo, as well as centreman Ben Cormier, who brings three seasons of OHL experience from Owen Sound. Other signings to bolster the roster include forwards Lucas Teixeira and Brennan Huyck, as well as defenders Brady Murnane and Colin Feeley.

The only trades the Generals did make this off-season were for goaltenders Reid Thomas, acquired from Sault Ste Marie, and Jaden Cholette from London. Oshawa will look to Cholette to share the net throughout the season.

Returning Players

The Generals have many players eligible to return: Beckett Sennecke, Ben Danford, Owen Griffin, Simon Wang and Zack Sandhu to name a few. However, all five are expected to be out of action to start the season as they attend NHL training camps.

That is not to say Oshawa will be without experience as team veterans Ethan Toms and Harrison Franssen are back. Right wingers Brooks Rogowski and Tyler O’Toole are also entering their second seasons with the team. Each return with their tenacious and determined style of play that fans are familiar with.

After spending some time with the Generals last season, winger Anthony Figliomeni and defender Brady Blaseg will see more playing time this year. Figliomeni dressed for 15 games in 2024/25, tallying four points (2G, 2A) while Blaseg put up 2 points in his 9 games played.

Netminder Isaac Gravelle also returns for his second season. After 14 starts and a 9-3-1-1 record last year, the Fenwick, ON native will be put to the test in goal for 2025/26, sharing the crease with newcomer Cholette for the time being.

Team Overview

Despite missing some of their high-end players to start the season, the Generals should have no problem filling their voids with the amount of depth throughout the lineup from old and new faces.

There will also be a new bench boss to guide them in Mario Pouliot, who brings valuable experience to the table with back-to-back Memorial Cups with the Acadie-Bathrust Titan and Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the QMJHL as their head coach. This is, however, the last eligible year for Sandhu and Posthumus to play in the league, and team veterans like Sennecke, Danford, Franssen and Toms each have one more year before their overage seasons.

On top of that, the Eastern Conference is expected to be very competitive once again with teams like Brantford and Kingston looking to make statements. Odds aside, Oshawa went 20-7-3-2 against divisional opponents last season and 26-17-3-2 against their conference entirely.

Even with a slight retool featuring a hard-working and determined group, the Generals will play hard and fight for another playoff appearance this year. Oshawa has made the OHL Playoffs in the last 13 seasons.

Canadian Tire, Rodman’s Heating and Air Conditioning, Desjardins Insurance, Planet Fitness, Dodd and Soutor, Pizza Pizza, Bluebird Self Storage, and Professional Dry Cleaners have teamed up for the Adopt-A-School program!

This program gives local businesses the chance to give back to the community by purchasing Generals season tickets and donating them to elementary schools throughout Durham Region. The tickets are intended to reward students that excel in academics, athletics, and extracurricular activities.
