Great insurance starts with a great agent

A MESSAGE TO YOU

I want to take this opportunity to welcome all of you to the 2025-26 Oshawa Generals OHL season. As always not only a welcome to the legions of returning fans, but for all of the new fans as well. Welcome to Gens Nation!!!

The large number of players that you will be seeing on the ice this season will be coming off back to back OHL championship finals appearances. A great accomplishment but we all know we fell short of our ultimate goal of winning the Robertson trophy and going to the Memorial Cup. The real success of this years team is to return to that level. Three years ago we finished in eighth place followed by a first place and fourth place regular season finishes respectively. The first-place finish and back-to-back finals appearances were the result of the building blocks being put in place seasons before and the team growing up together. Winning doesn’t happen by accident, and it must be done by doing things the right way.

The men in charge of that will be led by Mario Pouliot and his winning pedigree in junior hockey. Mario will push these players to places they may not have been before but trusting a coach that has won two Memorial Cups the reboot should move quickly. Mike Farrugia will be in his third season behind the bench, and they will be joined by newcomer Derrick Walser who most recently coached in the WHL with the Red Deer Rebels. Derrick was part of the Peterborough Pete’s coaching staff that won the OHL championship and competed in the Memorial Cup in 2023.

The hockey landscape as we know it, is changing and the people to benefit the most will be you the fans and the players. Fans will get to see young players live that they may never have been able to see before. Players with NCAA commits that may have played in other leagues to preserve their eligibility are free to explore the OHL now before going to school. Players will have the opportunity to extend their playing careers and get the best of both worlds. I suspect by the end of this upcoming season we may have half of our players with NCAA commits. However, make no mistake the OHL/CHL will remain the industry leader in producing NHL draft picks. Look no further then our own Simon Wang and Owen Griffin who had their names called for the San Jose Sharks and the Columbus Blue Jackets respectively this past June in LA.

Now you must play your part and fill this building every night. Give these guys true home ice advantage and push them to be there best night in and night out. Go Gens Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As we prepare to embark on our 88th year, we’re energized by what the future holds. While much has changed over the years, our expectations remain the same: to ice a competitive team with our sights set on returning to the finals. This year’s roster will feature an exciting blend of new talent and veteran leadership—a dynamic mix of size, skill, and relentless compete.

We can’t wait to welcome our loyal fans back to the rink and feel your support in the stands.

Starting in the new year, fans will begin to see major renovations take shape at the arena—a place the Generals have proudly called home for decades, and will continue to for years to come. These enhancements will honor our deep-rooted history while ushering in a new era of excellence, elevating the game-day experience for players and fans alike. From improved facilities to refreshed fan spaces, the upgrades will reflect the pride and spirit of the Oshawa community. This investment not only reinforces our commitment to the organization but celebrates the city we represent—with full completion slated for late 2027.

AROUND THE OHL

AS OF NOVEMBER 5TH

EAST DIVISION

KINGSTON FRONTENACS

The Kingston Frontenacs, who have proven to be a thorn in the Generals’ side in their first three meetings of the season, have been a formidable foe at times, but have recently struggled with four straight losses.

Even with the talents of Jacob Battaglia, Kieran Dervin and Tyler Hopkins among others, Kingston’s offense has been off to a slow start, despite some strong showings against Oshawa and a nine-goal game against the Petes earlier in the year, where Battaglia scored a hat trick.

So far, Kingston has proven to be a patient and steady unit, not only discipline wise as they are the least penalized team in the league, but defensively sound as well. Their main strength to this point has been their goaltending, with Matthew Minchak and Gavin Betts each putting up decent numbers between the pipes in their first full seasons with the team.

Hovering around .500, there is still plenty of time for the Frontenacs to find a spark. It is only a matter of time before they do so with their talent level. The Generals will not see their division rivals again until December 10th in Kingston.

CENTRAL DIVISION

BARRIE COLTS

Things have been looking up for the Barrie Colts lately, winners of four straight after a 3-7-0-3 start. They have stuck to their rough and tough play that the Generals are very familiar with in their playoff battles in recent years.

While the defense has been spotty, the Colts have kept up offensively and are ranked top-ten in that department. Cole Beaudoin has been red hot since returning from Utah’s camp with 22 points in 12 games to lead the team in scoring. Emil Hemming has also returned from the Dallas Stars and has put up seven points in his first three, further bolstering Barrie’s offense.

Kashawn Aitcheson has had a very impressive start, leading the Colts in goals with eleven from the blue line. Brad Gardiner, a former Ottawa 67, is second in scoring with 20 in his second year with the club. The line just keeps moving for Barrie with newcomers Alex Assadourian, Calvin Crombie, Joseph Salandra and more.

The Colts have gone about this season with a ‘next man up’ mentality that has paid off with plenty of depth. Now that their top players are back from NHL camps, the team looks even more dangerous, and it has showed in their recent play.

MIDWEST DIVISION

GUELPH STORM

In their first 16 games of the season, the Guelph Storm find themselves hovering around .500. As a team still in their developing stages, they find themselves middle of the pack in just about every category from offense to defense.

Inexperienced goaltending has been part of the issue for Guelph as both Zachary Jovanovski and Colin Ellsworth, in their first full seasons, each have Save Percentages below .900 and Goals Against Averages above three. Oshawa saw both of them in a 7-1 routing of the Storm earlier in the year.

Of positive note, Jett Luchanko is back from the Philadelphia Flyers and has not missed a beat. His return should give the offense a spark, already led by Carter Stevens and second overall selection, Jaakko Wycisk with seven goals each.

While things have looked bleak for the Storm to start the season, they have gotten some reinforcements back from NHL camps and have taken four of their last five contests. With the campaign still young, there is still a chance the team gets better.

WEST DIVISION

SOO GREYHOUNDS

Another team that the Gens have seen recently, the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds have put up a solid start to their season thanks to a solid offensive core filled with depth scoring, with nine players already up to ten points or higher.

Penguins’ prospect Jordan Charron leads the team in both goals with 14 and points with 20, along with Christopher Brown, Marco Mignosa and Quinn McKenzie also making contributions up front. Recently returning from the Nashville Predators, Brady Martin has been on fire in his first few games back and adds legitimate firepower to the lineup.

Two defenders have really stood out for the SOO: Chase Reid, in his sophomore season, and the team’s top Import selection, Jakub Winkelhofer, both terrific puck-movers with wicked releases that are projected to have massive seasons on the blue line.

While the SOO Greyhounds’ offense has been key in some victories, they are also building a gritty culture. As the Generals saw recently, they finish checks and clog up open ice to not allow many chances the other way, a very good formula for playoff hockey that they will hope to perfect as the season goes on.

OSHAWA GENERALS vs BRANTFORD BULLDOGS

GAME DAY PREVIEW

The Oshawa Generals host the Eastern Conference-leading Brantford Bulldogs with the hopes of earning their first win against them in the season series.

Brantford took the first two meetings not too long ago by 3-1 and 4-1 margins. While the Gens somewhat contained arguably the best offense in the league, they could not generate many chances the other way, which they will look to change tonight.

This marks the first matchup between both sides since the trade that saw Ben Danford and Zack Sandhu head to the Bulldogs for overage defender Lucas Moore, forward Aiden O’Donnell, the rights to defender Luca Diplacido and nine draft picks.

While O’Donnell and Moore prepare to face their former squad, two of the Generals’ key defenders for the past few years in Danford and Sandhu return to the TCC.

A 14th overall choice of the Generals in the 2022 OHL Priority Selection, Danford suited up for 196 games for the club, putting up 83 points with 140 penalty minutes and was a +18.

Danford was also a key factor in Oshawa’s past couple of playoff runs, scoring six goals and 16 points in 47 postseason games with plenty of blocked shots along the way thanks to his defense-first mentality.

Sandhu, who originally came up with the Guelph Storm, was acquired by the Gens via trade in 2024. He appeared in 106 games for Oshawa, tallying 34 points and 150 penalty minutes while also putting up eight points in 41 playoff games.

With both defenders being honored in their first game back in Oshawa, there is still a game to be played with the Generals looking for a win and Brantford looking to build on their already strong season. The Bulldogs are coming off an overtime loss in Peterborough last night.

Anthony Figliomeni has provided a spark for the Generals in the past couple of games. In his second season with Oshawa, Figliomeni has proven to be a gritty and hard-working bottom-six option who can get in the heads of other teams.

For the Bulldogs, keep an eye out for Jake O’Brien, the league-leader in points with 33, including five in the two games against Oshawa. The Seattle Kraken’s first round choice last spring is a talented playmaker with excellent vision and skill making him a top threat in the OHL.

LAST GAME RECAP

NOVEMBER 2ND, 2025

The Oshawa Generals dropped 3-0 to the Ottawa 67’s Sunday evening, suffering their fourth consecutive loss.

The game got off to a fast-paced start and the Generals moved the puck quite nicely while getting some extended shifts in the Ottawa zone, but the 67’s would get the first goal on a deflection from Cooper Foster standing in front of Jaden Cholette.

With Oshawa trailing heading into the second, they would continue to keep up with the 67’s’ speed in more fast action, but could not get much going offensively, generating just nine shots after two periods.

Ottawa would add to their lead with two quick ones late in the second. Nathan Amidovski made it a two-goal game after tapping home a sweet behind-the-back dish from Jasper Kuhta behind the net. Shaan Kingwell followed up just 25 seconds later, snapping it glove side on an odd-man-rush.

There were only 28 total shots registered between both sides through the first 40 minutes, but the 67’s held a three-goal cushion going into the final frame, which is all they needed to seal the deal.

Ottawa came into the contest tied for second in the league goals against, and they showed why with both their defensive style and the play of Ryder Fetterolf, who stopped all 16 shots he faced after coming into tonight top three in both Save Percentage and Goals Against Average.

As for Oshawa, their offensive woes continue as they have now scored just three times in their last four games, despite running into some tough defenses this weekend in Sault Ste. Marie and now Ottawa.

The Generals. Close out their home stand with two more games next weekend: Friday, November 7th against the Brantford Bulldogs and Sunday, November 9th against the Owen Sound Attack.

GENERALS SEASON PREVIEW

NEW ADDITIONS, RETURNING

FACES, TEAM OVERVIEW

A new OHL season is here, and the Oshawa Generals gear up for another year of competitive, tough-nosed, memorable and fun hockey.

Oshawa enters the 2025/26 campaign as the back-to-back defending Eastern Conference champions and look to avenge consecutive OHL Finals losses to the London Knights. However, with such a top-heavy conference, the goal is much easier said than done.

As well, with Jacob Oster, Luca D’Amato and Luke Torrance graduating last year, there will be some holes to fill throughout the roster from either new or returning players.

With that, here is an overview of what your Oshawa Generals will look like this season:

New Acquisitions

Despite a quiet off-season on the trade front, the Generals focused on improving the roster through the OHL Priority Selection, the CHL Import Draft and free agent signings.

In the OHL Priority Selection, Oshawa drafted 14 new players, three of which stood out in preseason and made the roster: winger Sam Roberts and defencemen Anthony Timmerman and Leo Laschon. Finnish winger Onni Kalto and Russian winger Vadim Smirnov have also made the roster after being selected in the CHL Import Draft.

Roberts, the 16th overall selection from the Toronto Jr. Canadiens in April, brings a similar, hard-nosed style game as his father, Gary. Timmerman, out of Rochester, MI, and Laschon from Pittsburgh, PA, also bring valuable depth to the Generals’ blue line. Kalto’s size and Smirnov’s skill should contribute nicely to Oshawa’s scoring depth as well.

Along with their recent draft selections, Oshawa also signed a wide variety of players to accompany team depth. Rowan Sang out of Kimball Union Academy and Porter Byrd-Leitner out of the Alberta Junior Hockey League were both signed just before preseason. Byrd-Leitner’s skill and talent along with Sang’s strong skating abilities make both left wingers well suited for the Generals’ forward core.

Also signed as FAs include Generals’ draft picks from years past in wingers Luke Posthumus and Jalen Lobo, as well as centreman Ben Cormier, who brings three seasons of OHL experience from Owen Sound. Other signings to bolster the roster include forwards Lucas Teixeira and Brennan Huyck, as well as defenders Brady Murnane and Colin Feeley.

The only trades the Generals did make this off-season were for goaltenders Reid Thomas, acquired from Sault Ste Marie, and Jaden Cholette from London. Oshawa will look to Cholette to share the net throughout the season.

Returning Players

The Generals have many players eligible to return: Beckett Sennecke, Ben Danford, Owen Griffin, Simon Wang and Zack Sandhu to name a few. However, all five are expected to be out of action to start the season as they attend NHL training camps.

That is not to say Oshawa will be without experience as team veterans Ethan Toms and Harrison Franssen are back. Right wingers Brooks Rogowski and Tyler O’Toole are also entering their second seasons with the team. Each return with their tenacious and determined style of play that fans are familiar with.

After spending some time with the Generals last season, winger Anthony Figliomeni and defender Brady Blaseg will see more playing time this year. Figliomeni dressed for 15 games in 2024/25, tallying four points (2G, 2A) while Blaseg put up 2 points in his 9 games played.

Netminder Isaac Gravelle also returns for his second season. After 14 starts and a 9-3-1-1 record last year, the Fenwick, ON native will be put to the test in goal for 2025/26, sharing the crease with newcomer Cholette for the time being.

Team Overview

Despite missing some of their high-end players to start the season, the Generals should have no problem filling their voids with the amount of depth throughout the lineup from old and new faces.

There will also be a new bench boss to guide them in Mario Pouliot, who brings valuable experience to the table with back-to-back Memorial Cups with the Acadie-Bathrust Titan and Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the QMJHL as their head coach. This is, however, the last eligible year for Sandhu and Posthumus to play in the league, and team veterans like Sennecke, Danford, Franssen and Toms each have one more year before their overage seasons.

On top of that, the Eastern Conference is expected to be very competitive once again with teams like Brantford and Kingston looking to make statements. Odds aside, Oshawa went 20-7-3-2 against divisional opponents last season and 26-17-3-2 against their conference entirely.

Even with a slight retool featuring a hard-working and determined group, the Generals will play hard and fight for another playoff appearance this year. Oshawa has made the OHL Playoffs in the last 13 seasons.

Canadian Tire, Rodman’s Heating and Air Conditioning, Desjardins Insurance, Planet Fitness, Dodd and Soutor, Pizza Pizza, Bluebird Self Storage, and Professional Dry Cleaners have teamed up for the Adopt-A-School program!

This program gives local businesses the chance to give back to the community by purchasing Generals season tickets and donating them to elementary schools throughout Durham Region. The tickets are intended to reward students that excel in academics, athletics, and extracurricular activities.
