Great insurance starts with a great agent

A MESSAGE TO YOU

I want to take this opportunity to welcome all of you to the 2025-26 Oshawa Generals OHL season. As always not only a welcome to the legions of returning fans, but for all of the new fans as well. Welcome to Gens Nation!!!

The large number of players that you will be seeing on the ice this season will be coming off back to back OHL championship finals appearances. A great accomplishment but we all know we fell short of our ultimate goal of winning the Robertson trophy and going to the Memorial Cup. The real success of this years team is to return to that level. Three years ago we finished in eighth place followed by a first place and fourth place regular season finishes respectively. The first-place finish and back-to-back finals appearances were the result of the building blocks being put in place seasons before and the team growing up together. Winning doesn’t happen by accident, and it must be done by doing things the right way.

The men in charge of that will be led by Mario Pouliot and his winning pedigree in junior hockey. Mario will push these players to places they may not have been before but trusting a coach that has won two Memorial Cups the reboot should move quickly. Mike Farrugia will be in his third season behind the bench, and they will be joined by newcomer Derrick Walser who most recently coached in the WHL with the Red Deer Rebels. Derrick was part of the Peterborough Pete’s coaching staff that won the OHL championship and competed in the Memorial Cup in 2023.

The hockey landscape as we know it, is changing and the people to benefit the most will be you the fans and the players. Fans will get to see young players live that they may never have been able to see before. Players with NCAA commits that may have played in other leagues to preserve their eligibility are free to explore the OHL now before going to school. Players will have the opportunity to extend their playing careers and get the best of both worlds. I suspect by the end of this upcoming season we may have half of our players with NCAA commits. However, make no mistake the OHL/CHL will remain the industry leader in producing NHL draft picks. Look no further then our own Simon Wang and Owen Griffin who had their names called for the San Jose Sharks and the Columbus Blue Jackets respectively this past June in LA.

Now you must play your part and fill this building every night. Give these guys true home ice advantage and push them to be there best night in and night out. Go Gens Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As we prepare to embark on our 88th year, we’re energized by what the future holds. While much has changed over the years, our expectations remain the same: to ice a competitive team with our sights set on returning to the finals. This year’s roster will feature an exciting blend of new talent and veteran leadership—a dynamic mix of size, skill, and relentless compete.

We can’t wait to welcome our loyal fans back to the rink and feel your support in the stands.

Starting in the new year, fans will begin to see major renovations take shape at the arena—a place the Generals have proudly called home for decades, and will continue to for years to come. These enhancements will honor our deep-rooted history while ushering in a new era of excellence, elevating the game-day experience for players and fans alike. From improved facilities to refreshed fan spaces, the upgrades will reflect the pride and spirit of the Oshawa community. This investment not only reinforces our commitment to the organization but celebrates the city we represent—with full completion slated for late 2027.

AROUND THE OHL

AS OF MARCH 19TH

EAST DIVISION

PETERBOROUGH PETES

Peterborough has evolved out of their two-year rebuild with a hard-working and skillful group that has saw tremendous success this season with 37 wins and the ninth-best record in the league.

They have been led offensively by Adam Novotny for most of the season with 33 goals and 63 points, but depth scoring has come from many on the team, from Brennan Faulkner to Aiden Young to Matthew Soto to deadline acquisition Kieron Walton and many more.

Defense has been coming around too after its struggles early in the year and that has been with the help of local boy Easton Rye, who has been outstanding all year in goal as he leads the league in wins with 36 and is top-five in Save Percentage at .916.

A first-round matchup with the North Bay Battalion is all but set for Peterborough, but with three games remaining in each of their seasons and two points separating them from fourth and fifth in the Eastern Conference, home ice advantage is still up for grabs.

CENTRAL DIVISION

NIAGARA ICEDOGS

A season of high-and-lows aplenty for Niagara will still see them get some playoff hockey under their belts thanks in part to some tremendous seasons from top guns Riley Patterson and Ryan Roobroeck.

Patterson is up to 81 points and is top-five in goals with 38 while Roobroeck has also hit the 30-goal mark. Behind them, Ryerson Edgar, Ethan Czata and Hayden Reid continue to be nice complimentary pieces, but a lack of bottom-six depth is what has the club so low for goals.

Niagara has not gotten much help on the defensive side either, allowing the third-most goals in the Eastern Conference – a problem that has plagued them for what seems like all season.

The IceDogs just settled for the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference as they are now five points back of the Kingston Frontenacs with two games left. This sets Niagara up for a first round matchup with the Central Division champion Barrie Colts.

MIDWEST DIVISION

OWENSOUND ATTACK

The past few months have been rough on the Attack as they once went on a stretch of eight wins in 36 games, but they appear to be finishing their year strong, taking six of their last ten.

Owen Sound’s offense is kicking again, led by Pierce Mbuyi with 12 points in his last ten to take over the team scoring lead. Harry Nansi has also gotten hot at times as he went on a nine-game point streak not long ago and Lenny Greenberg has also had a solid season on the back end.

Playoff matchups and seeding are far from set for Owen Sound, but they can finish no higher than sixth in the Western Conference. They sit in that spot for now but are also battling the Guelph Storm and Saginaw Spirit, who are both two points behind them.

With two games remaining, including a big one in Guelph against the Storm, the Attack hope to lock up the sixth seed. Should they do so, they would set up a first round series with either the Flint Firebirds or the Windsor Spitfires. Should Saginaw and Guelph win out and Owen Sound loses out, the Attack would fall to the eighth seed and play the Kitchener Rangers.

WEST DIVISION

SAULTSTE.MARIE GREYHOUNDS

It has been a successful season for the SOO out of their retool from last year, but they have cooled off before entering the playoffs with just four wins in ten games thanks to a couple of key injuries and the offense running a bit dry.

Brady Martin has had a difficult campaign due to his injuries sustained earlier in the year, but the Greyhounds fortunately got top defenseman Chase Reid back from one just in time for the playoffs. Reid was sidelined for 17 games due to an upper-body injury.

Even with some high-end talent being out and some of their weapons slumping, over-ager Marco Mignosa has led the SOO’s offense all season long. He has nine goals, 13 points in his last ten and has jumped to seventh in league scoring with 86 points.

As the Greyhounds prepare for a playoff duel with the London Knights, home ice advantage in the first round series is still up for debate. The two are separated by one point with London currently controlling fourth in the West at 83 and the SOO in fifth at 82.

GAME DAY PREVIEW

The Oshawa Generals return to the TCC for their final weekend of the regular season. They kick if off with the second of their home-and-home with the Ottawa 67’s.

The first game from the nation’s capital was a convincing win for Ottawa, who put up 43 shots and got at least one point from 14 different skaters en route to a 6-1 victory.

Later after Ottawa’s win, the Brantford Bulldogs went on to defeat the Niagara IceDogs 5-2 on home ice to lock up the Eastern Conference. The 67’s will settle for the third seed and battle the Kingston Frontenacs in the opening round of the playoffs.

As for the Gens, they hope to finish their season strong in their final two games. Oshawa is still looking for their first win of the year over the 67’s and hope to avoid an eight-game season series sweep from a second East Division rival this year after Kingston already did so.

The first seven meetings have been either low-scoring and tight affairs or one-sided victories on Ottawa’s end. Both Ryder Fetterolf and Jaeden Nelson have had their share of success against the Generals all season as part of their terrific campaigns in goal.

Owen Griffin’s point streak ended at ten as Ottawa shut him down last game, but he and the rest of the Gens’ offense hope to finish the season with positive momentum.

Third year forward Harrison Franssen has been another one chipping in for offense as the Generals’ third-highest scorer. The London, ON product carries four points in his last five into tonight and has shown his fight and tenacity in puck battles and in front of the net all season.

For the 67’s, be on the lookout for Filip Ekberg, who recorded two goals against Oshawa Wednesday afternoon. The Hurricanes’ prospect out of Sweden comes in with eight points in his last ten and has been a crafty playmaker with his elite vision in his two seasons in the OHL.

LAST GAME RECAP

MARCH 18TH, 2026

The Oshawa Generals were handed a 6-1 loss by the Ottawa 67’s from the nation’s capital this afternoon in what was Oshawa’s final road game of the season.

Brady Murnane returned on the Generals’ blue line while Jaden Cholette, the Gloucester, ON native, got the crease close to home. He would have to be sharp early as the 67’s started out hot, putting up the game’s first ten shots.

Less than three minutes in, however, Ottawa would open the scoring after Brock Chitaroni quickly put home Shaan Kingwell’s feed from behind the net on a bang-bang play.

The 67’s controlled the play early, but Oshawa later got it tied after Luke Posthumus came down the far wing and snuck one past Ryder Fetterolf short-side on the Generals’ first shot.

Nic Whitehead would give Ottawa back the lead on the power play after he one-timed Thomas Vandenberg’s feed into a gaping cage from the far side. The 67’s put up 24 shots in the opening frame, but Cholette stood tall to keep it a one-goal game after one.

Ottawa picked up right where they left off to start the second and went ahead by two after Spencer Bowes played the hop on a cross-corner dump-in, won the race against a couple of General defenders and roofed it glove-side.

Cholette once again had to be strong at times in the middle frame and the Generals were still in it entering the third. Oshawa had some jump to start the final 20 with some shifts in the attacking zone but would not get much going.

Ottawa would extend their lead after Nic Sima drove to the net and tipped home Whitehead’s centring feed with his stake. It was Sima’s ninth goal with the 67’s since coming over from the Saginaw Spirit at the trade deadline.

Filip Ekberg tipped in a terrific feed from Ondrej Ruml and would net another one late for Ottawa’s fifth and sixth. The 67’s, who put up 43 total shots on the afternoon, would close things out to keep their hopes of a first-place finish alive.

Ottawa will now wait for the Brantford Bulldogs’ result against Niagara later tonight to determine their fate in the Eastern Conference race. If Brantford wins or loses in either overtime or the shootout, they claim the East Division and the 67’s will settle for the third seed.

As for the Gens, they head home for their final two games of the regular season, wrapping up their home-and-home with Ottawa Friday night before hosting the Peterborough Petes Sunday evening in their final game of the campaign.
