I want to take this opportunity to welcome all of you to the 2025-26 Oshawa Generals OHL season. As always not only a welcome to the legions of returning fans, but for all of the new fans as well. Welcome to Gens Nation!!!

The large number of players that you will be seeing on the ice this season will be coming off back to back OHL championship finals appearances. A great accomplishment but we all know we fell short of our ultimate goal of winning the Robertson trophy and going to the Memorial Cup. The real success of this years team is to return to that level. Three years ago we finished in eighth place followed by a first place and fourth place regular season finishes respectively. The first-place finish and back-to-back finals appearances were the result of the building blocks being put in place seasons before and the team growing up together. Winning doesn’t happen by accident, and it must be done by doing things the right way.

The men in charge of that will be led by Mario Pouliot and his winning pedigree in junior hockey. Mario will push these players to places they may not have been before but trusting a coach that has won two Memorial Cups the reboot should move quickly. Mike Farrugia will be in his third season behind the bench, and they will be joined by newcomer Derrick Walser who most recently coached in the WHL with the Red Deer Rebels. Derrick was part of the Peterborough Pete’s coaching staff that won the OHL championship and competed in the Memorial Cup in 2023.

The hockey landscape as we know it, is changing and the people to benefit the most will be you the fans and the players. Fans will get to see young players live that they may never have been able to see before. Players with NCAA commits that may have played in other leagues to preserve their eligibility are free to explore the OHL now before going to school. Players will have the opportunity to extend their playing careers and get the best of both worlds. I suspect by the end of this upcoming season we may have half of our players with NCAA commits. However, make no mistake the OHL/CHL will remain the industry leader in producing NHL draft picks. Look no further then our own Simon Wang and Owen Griffin who had their names called for the San Jose Sharks and the Columbus Blue Jackets respectively this past June in LA.

Now you must play your part and fill this building every night. Give these guys true home ice advantage and push them to be there best night in and night out. Go Gens Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AROUND THE OHL

AS OF MARCH 9TH

EAST DIVISION

BRANTFORD BULLDOGS

On the heels of a six-game point streak and an 8-1-1-0 stretch, Brantford has extended their Eastern Conference lead to five points with six games left in their season.

Even with the strong tandem of Ryerson Leenders and David Egorov getting hot in goal, still as dangerous as ever is Brantford’s offense. A core led by the league’s leading goal man in Marek Vanacker with 43 as well as Jake O’Brien and Caleb Malhotra, who have combined for 28 points in each of their last ten.

While Cooper Dennis and Adam Benak have been great complimentary pieces up front, Brantford has gotten plenty of production on the blue line with Adam Jiricek at 52 points and Vladimir Dravecky and Edison Engle both at 27 for the year.

With two weeks left in the season, the Bulldogs will look to finish the year strong in order to claim not only the East Division or Eastern Conference, but also finish as the top team in the entire OHL. They are currently three points ahead of Kitchener for that spot.

CENTRAL DIVISION

SUDBURY WOLVES

Sudbury continues to run steadily towards the end of the season and are closing in on clinching the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Ever since December, the Wolves’ offense has completely shifted from what it was at the start of the year. They are mainly led by the emergence of Jan Chovan and defender Artem Gonchar, who each have 47 points, but each and every forward contributes with either depth scoring or gritty two-way play.

The biggest question for the club since the season started was in goal as Sudbury has used a league-high six different goaltenders this year. For now, though, they seemed to have found their answers with Bjorn Bronas and Paolo Frasca, who have each had solid runs as of late.

With six games remaining, including one Wednesday night against the Generals, the Wolves will hope to close out their campaign strong after a bleak start in the first few months. They have an eleven-point lead for the eighth seed coming into this week.

MIDWEST DIVISION

KITCHENER RANGERS

Kitchener’s surge to the top continues with an 8-1-0-1 stretch, bringing them up to 94 points and building their Western Conference lead to five points over Flint and seven over Windsor.

Now the third-highest scoring team in the league, the Rangers have been driven by Jack Pridham and Christian Humphreys all season. Kitchener’s dynamic duo are on fire again, combining for 27 points in each of their last ten, leading to Pridham jumping up to third in points and second in goals league wide.

Someone who is also top-five in goals is Dylan Edwards, who has been outstanding since arriving in Kitchener with 43 points and 21 goals in 31 games. The same can be said for Sam O’Reilly with 33 points in 24 games to add to a lethal top-six.

Five games remain for the Rangers to not only finish tops in the Western Conference but to overtake the Brantford Bulldogs as the best team in the OHL, which they are three points back of.

WEST DIVISION

WINDSOR SPITFIRES

Despite a decent stretch of seven wins in ten games, including a big win over the Kitchener Rangers a few days ago, Windsor still finds themselves seven points out of first in the Western Conference.

That is not to say the Spitfires have dropped off in their play as they continue to be a sturdy two-way club. Liam Greentree leads the team in scoring with 63 points while Carson Woodall and Anthony Cristoforo continue to be a two-man force on the blue line.

Windsor did lose a big piece to their offense in Ethan Belchetz for an extended period of time after the top NHL Draft-eligible prospect broke his left clavicle last week. The club will hope their solid depth can fill his shoes heading into the playoffs.

The Spitfires are still neck-and-neck with the Flint Firebirds for the West Division with six games remaining on their schedule. Windsor is two points back, but they have a game in hand on Flint down the stretch.

GAME DAY PREVIEW

The Oshawa Generals return home for their annual St. Patrick’s Day game against the Central Division-winning Barrie Colts.

When the Generals last played at the TCC on Wednesday, they suffered a 5-4 loss to the Sudbury Wolves before going to Peterborough the next night and hanging on for a 3-2 victory against their archrival Petes.

After Matthew Humphries left the game early with an upper-body injury, Jaden Cholette went on to make 37 saves in relief to lead Oshawa to victory. Matthew Wang also netted the game-winner in the third period with his second goal as a General.

Meanwhile, the Colts are closing out their own back-to-back after defeating Sudbury 5-2 at home last night. They also played Thursday night to begin their week, but dropped 3-2 in overtime to the Ottawa 67’s.

Despite already clinching their division, Barrie still has a chance at the Eastern Conference’s top spot. They are five points back of the Brantford Bulldogs entering play, but only have four games remaining to catch them.

As last year’s Eastern finalists prepare for their fourth and final meeting of the season, the Colts are going for a season-series sweep of Oshawa after taking the first three games.

The Generals put up a fight in their last contest against Barrie on the road back in January but could not keep up with their high-end offense in the third and dropped 4-2.

With an assist Thursday night, Owen Griffin extended his point streak to ten games with 13 assists during that stretch. The Blue Jackets’ prospect not only leads Oshawa in scoring but has also been one of the league’s most crafty playmakers all year thanks to his elite senses.

On Barrie’s side, Utah prospect Cole Beaudoin has also been one of the top talents in the OHL all season and is the league’s seventh-highest scorer with 83 points, including 31 goals. Beaudoin generates offense in many hard-working ways and is reliable on both ends of the ice.

LAST GAME RECAP

MARCH 12TH, 2026

The Oshawa Generals took an intense 3-2 contest over the Peterborough Petes on the road to complete their back-to-back set of games.

The Generals swapped the lineup slightly, going back to 12 forwards and six defenders. The Changes included Tyler Hinde making his return to action after seven games.

Matthew Humphries started the second of the back-to-back in goal and had to be strong early as Peterborough came out flying. However, Jaden Cholette would take over late in the first after Humphries left the game with an upper-body injury.

Coming off a start less than 24 hours ago, Cholette would be tested quickly as Brennan Faulkner won a foot race and tucked it in on his backhand going across the net for the opening goal. The Petes put up 16 shots in the opening frame and took a 1-0 lead to the locker room.

The Petes continued to generate offense with their speed and grit at the start of the second. Cholette did his part, stopping all 20 Peterborough shots in the middle frame to keep it a one-goal game.

Oshawa had 16 shots and not a lot of trips in the offensive zone through 40 minutes, but they picked things up late in the middle frame and got the game tied at four-on-four as Brooks Rogowski walked in on a two-on-one and ripped it glove side on Easton Rye.

With a 1-1 deadlock entering the third, the Gens quickly broke it on an early power play with Luke Posthumus one-timing Owen Griffin’s cross-ice feed home. Griffin extended his point streak to ten games with that assist.

Oshawa was not done there as they extended their lead just 1:25 later thanks to Matthew Wang tucking it home out front for his second goal in as many nights after going his first 16 games as a General without one.

With the Generals suddenly ahead by two, the Petes came back and just got one to cross the line behind Cholette that took a lengthy video review to determine the result. Adam Levac was credited with the goal that brought Peterborough back to within one.

It came down to the wire in an intense one-goal game, but Cholette came up with some big saves in the end and the Generals’ defense avenged last night’s tough ending by shutting the door on Peterborough’s home ice.

In total, Jaden Cholette made 37 saves in emergency relief and gave his team a chance to win. The Gens rewarded his efforts with three straight goals with Owen Griffin and Brooks Rogowski being in on two of them.

With the North Bay Battalion defeating the Brantford Bulldogs in overtime tonight, Peterborough now sits just one point ahead of them for the fourth seed in the East after tonight’s regulation loss.
