Great insurance starts with a great agent

A MESSAGE TO YOU

I want to take this opportunity to welcome all of you to the 2025-26 Oshawa Generals OHL season. As always not only a welcome to the legions of returning fans, but for all of the new fans as well. Welcome to Gens Nation!!!

The large number of players that you will be seeing on the ice this season will be coming off back to back OHL championship finals appearances. A great accomplishment but we all know we fell short of our ultimate goal of winning the Robertson trophy and going to the Memorial Cup. The real success of this years team is to return to that level. Three years ago we finished in eighth place followed by a first place and fourth place regular season finishes respectively. The first-place finish and back-to-back finals appearances were the result of the building blocks being put in place seasons before and the team growing up together. Winning doesn’t happen by accident, and it must be done by doing things the right way.

The men in charge of that will be led by Mario Pouliot and his winning pedigree in junior hockey. Mario will push these players to places they may not have been before but trusting a coach that has won two Memorial Cups the reboot should move quickly. Mike Farrugia will be in his third season behind the bench, and they will be joined by newcomer Derrick Walser who most recently coached in the WHL with the Red Deer Rebels. Derrick was part of the Peterborough Pete’s coaching staff that won the OHL championship and competed in the Memorial Cup in 2023.

The hockey landscape as we know it, is changing and the people to benefit the most will be you the fans and the players. Fans will get to see young players live that they may never have been able to see before. Players with NCAA commits that may have played in other leagues to preserve their eligibility are free to explore the OHL now before going to school. Players will have the opportunity to extend their playing careers and get the best of both worlds. I suspect by the end of this upcoming season we may have half of our players with NCAA commits. However, make no mistake the OHL/CHL will remain the industry leader in producing NHL draft picks. Look no further then our own Simon Wang and Owen Griffin who had their names called for the San Jose Sharks and the Columbus Blue Jackets respectively this past June in LA.

Now you must play your part and fill this building every night. Give these guys true home ice advantage and push them to be there best night in and night out. Go Gens Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As we prepare to embark on our 88th year, we’re energized by what the future holds. While much has changed over the years, our expectations remain the same: to ice a competitive team with our sights set on returning to the finals. This year’s roster will feature an exciting blend of new talent and veteran leadership—a dynamic mix of size, skill, and relentless compete.

We can’t wait to welcome our loyal fans back to the rink and feel your support in the stands.

Starting in the new year, fans will begin to see major renovations take shape at the arena—a place the Generals have proudly called home for decades, and will continue to for years to come. These enhancements will honor our deep-rooted history while ushering in a new era of excellence, elevating the game-day experience for players and fans alike. From improved facilities to refreshed fan spaces, the upgrades will reflect the pride and spirit of the Oshawa community. This investment not only reinforces our commitment to the organization but celebrates the city we represent—with full completion slated for late 2027.

AROUND THE OHL

AS OF JANUARY 21ST

EAST DIVISION

KINGSTON FRONTENACS

Continuing to keep pace in the playoff picture are the Frontenacs, who have gotten back to around the .500 mark with some evened out play down the stretch.

This has been without Tyler Hopkins and Jacob Battaglia, who were each delt at the trade deadline after Kingston decided it was best to sell. Battaglia got them eight draft picks from Flint while Hopkins was sent to Guelph days earlier for four picks plus Alex McLean.

Some results since then have been up-and-down, but some Frontenacs have started to gain confidence. The forementioned Maclean has fit in nicely with eight points in nine games and youngsters like Aleks Kulemin have seemed to play better since the trade as well.

Tomas Pobezal has picked up offensive production with five goals since returning from the U20 World Juniors with Czechia, and even team leaders Maleek McGowan and Kieren Dervin have chipped in.

As long as Matthew Minchak can continue his strong play between the pipes and things keep slowly clicking as they are, Kingston should well be in contention for a top-five spot in the Eastern Conference.

CENTRAL DIVISION

SUDBURY WOLVES

The Wolves also sold off at the trade deadline – sending top gun Kieron Walton to the Peterborough Petes as well as Nathan Villeneuve and Alex Pharand to the Windsor Spitfires.

Sudbury did well in the trades, getting Jean-Christoph Lemieux, Genc Ula and 13 draft picks back for the trouble, but have been picked up right where they left off with Villeneuve and Walton pre-deadline: gaining confidence and fighting for the eighth seed.

Prior to the deadline, the Wolves had won seven of eleven to take the last Eastern Conference playoff spot after their rough start to the year. Aside from their top players, part of it was also because of their depth and newcomers starting to gain traction.

Artyom Gonchar – the nephew of Sergei Gonchar – has emerged as a solid piece on their blue line and has 12 points in his last ten games. Jan Chovan, Rowan Henderson and Chase Coughlan have also provided solid offensive production for the past couple of months as well.

With plenty of momentum on their side compared to the start of the season, Sudbury has climbed back into the playoff race and could very well make it if things continue to click.

MIDWEST DIVISION

GUELPH STORM

The back-and-forth season continues for Guelph with three wins in their last ten games thanks to a combination of player growth, mixing and matching throughout the lineup and inconsistencies at both ends of the ice.

It was an interesting trade deadline for the 2027 Memorial Cup hosts, who received three more draft picks after dealing captain Charlie Paquette to the Brantford Bulldogs to join forces with Jett Luchanko, who Guelph also traded to them a couple of months ago.

After selling some long-time veterans, the Storm then bought with the acquisitions of Tyler Hopkins from Kingston and Josh Avery from Brampton. Hopkins has put up seven points in his first nine games in Guelph and is one of many contributors to the steady offensive production.

The likes of Jaakko Wycisk, Will McFadden and Illia Shybinskyi have had their hot and cold stretches, but are part of a core that the club has high hopes for when the Memorial Cup tournament comes to town next year.

Defensive lapses and inconsistent goaltending are mostly holding Guelph back, but they do find themselves firmly in a playoff spot and tied for third in the Midwest Division.

WEST DIVISION

SAGINAW SPIRIT

Also in one of the last playoff spots in the Western Conference, Saginaw holds the eighth seed by an eight-point gap after picking things up since late-December.

The Spirit have seven wins in eleven games since the halfway mark of the season thanks to their offense operating at a steady pace – still led particularly by Nikita Klepov and Egor Barbanov, who are both top-ten in points across the OHL.

Dima Zhilkin has had an excellent sophomore season with 14 points in ten games to get him up to 42 on the year and rookie Levi Harper has stood out as a quality threat on the blue line, tied for fifth in league scoring amongst defensemen with 35 points to date.

Even more opportunity will be presented to younger talents on the roster as veterans Sebastien Gervais and Nic Sima – two of the last remaining pieces from the 2024 Memorial Cup team – were shipped off at the trade deadline.

Saginaw still has their defensive flaws with the most goals allowed in the entire league, but they have a solid chance at maintaining a playoff spot if they keep their offensive production going.

GAME DAY PREVIEW

It’s Retro Night at the TCC as the Oshawa Generals play host to another East Division rival in the Kingston Frontenacs. Kingston has had their way with Oshawa this season, taking the first five matchups in convincing fashion to officially clinch the season series between the two.

The last Frontenac victory was from Tribute Communities Centre in mid-December, a game where the Generals put up 34 shots but were unable to solve Matthew Minchak, who picked up his first OHL shutout.

The Oshawa Generals takes on the Kingston Frontenacs in a rescheduled game after travelling to Ottawa on the weekend. They kept things close against the tough 67’s but fell just short of a third period-comeback, dropping 4-3.

Porter Byrd-Leitner and Luke Posthumus stayed hot as they each recorded a goal in Saturday’s contest. Aiden O’Donnell also netted his tenth of the season in his first game back in the lineup.

On the other side, Kingston continues their playoff race and come into tonight six points out of the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference. They picked up a dominating 8-2 win over the Saginaw Spirit on Friday to start last weekend.

Draft-eligible prospect Brooks Rogowski comes into tonight with nine points in his last ten and continues to be a driving force for Oshawa’s offense. The future Michigan State commit has been key to the Gens’ top-six as a big, strong power forward and power play specialist.

For the Frontenacs, keep an out for Alex McLean who was acquired from Guelph at the trade deadline for Tyler Hopkins. Since arriving to Kinston, the former ninth overall selection has tallied ten points in as many games and has jelled nicely as one of the club’s new weapons.

LAST GAME RECAP

JANUARY 24TH, 2026

Oshawa, On. – The Oshawa Generals hoped to make it two straight wins this afternoon in the nation’s capital but fell just short to the Ottawa 67’s in a 4-3 final.

Aiden O’Donnell returned to the lineup after a five-game absence, and he would quickly make his presence known just under three minutes – chipping in a rebound shot over Jaeden Nelson in the crease to give the Gens the early lead.

The Generals continued their strong start on the road with Porter Byrd-Leitner firing one home off the rush to make it 2-0, but Ottawa responded just 54 seconds later with Thomas Vandenberg taking Ondrej Ruml’s quick feed and one-timing it past Matthew Humphries.

Vandenberg’s marker seemed to awaken the 67’s, but Oshawa had chances to do even more damage in the first with three late power plays. Jasper Kuhta, however, would the game with a short-handed goal by burying Nic Whitehead’s rebound shot on a two-on-one rush.

Both teams traded chances throughout the first and played physical and fierce all throughout, but an eventful opening period would finally come to an end with four total goals and 14 penalty minutes.

Kuhta would net his second of the game before the five-minute mark of the second as he one-timed Spencer Bowes’ feed into a gaping cage to give Ottawa their first lead.

The teams would continue to go back-and-forth looking for the next goal, but the 67’s would get it after Ruml jumped in from the point and barely beat Humphries blocker-side.

Oshawa entered the third down by two but were also short-handed for five minutes after Brady Blaseg was assessed a game misconduct for cross-checking at the end of the second.

The Gens would get a much-needed kill and a big bonus with Luke Posthumus netting a filthy short-handed goal early – forcing a turnover, putting it through the defender’s legs and ripping it blocker-side to make it a one-goal game again.

After getting the third period start they were looking for, the Generals pushed hard for the equalizer the rest of the way. However, Jaeden Nelson stood tall – stopping all eleven of Oshawa’s third period shots to close it out for his team.

Oshawa certainly gave it a go against one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference but fell on the short end of the spectrum despite scoring the most goals they have had in a game against the 67’s all season.

The Generals’ power play, which came into this game operating at a decent rate, went scoreless on six attempts today and were unable to capitalize on some undisciplined play from Ottawa.
