A MESSAGE TO YOU I want to take this opportunity to welcome all of you to the 2025-26 Oshawa Generals OHL season. As always not only a welcome to the legions of returning fans, but for all of the new fans as well. Welcome to Gens Nation!!! The large number of players that you will be seeing on the ice this season will be coming off back to back OHL championship finals appearances. A great accomplishment but we all know we fell short of our ultimate goal of winning the Robertson trophy and going to the Memorial Cup. The real success of this years team is to return to that level. Three years ago we finished in eighth place followed by a first place and fourth place regular season finishes respectively. The first-place finish and back-to-back finals appearances were the result of the building blocks being put in place seasons before and the team growing up together. Winning doesn’t happen by accident, and it must be done by doing things the right way.
ROGER HUNT
VICE PRESIDENT & GENERAL MANAGER
The men in charge of that will be led by Mario Pouliot and his winning pedigree in junior hockey. Mario will push these players to places they may not have been before but trusting a coach that has won two Memorial Cups the reboot should move quickly. Mike Farrugia will be in his third season behind the bench, and they will be joined by newcomer Derrick Walser who most recently coached in the WHL with the Red Deer Rebels. Derrick was part of the Peterborough Pete’s coaching staff that won the OHL championship and competed in the Memorial Cup in 2023. The hockey landscape as we know it, is changing and the people to benefit the most will be you the fans and the players. Fans will get to see young players live that they may never have been able to see before. Players with NCAA commits that may have played in other leagues to preserve their eligibility are free to explore the OHL now before going to school. Players will have the opportunity to extend their playing careers and get the best of both worlds. I suspect by the end of this upcoming season we may have half of our players with NCAA commits. However, make no mistake the OHL/CHL will remain the industry leader in producing NHL draft picks. Look no further then our own Simon Wang and Owen Griffin who had their names called for the San Jose Sharks and the Columbus Blue Jackets respectively this past June in LA. Now you must play your part and fill this building every night. Give these guys true home ice advantage and push them to be there best night in and night out. Go Gens Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As we prepare to embark on our 88th year, we’re energized by what the future holds. While much has changed over the years, our expectations remain the same: to ice a competitive team with our sights set on returning to the finals. This year’s roster will feature an exciting blend of new talent and veteran leadership—a dynamic mix of size, skill, and relentless compete. We can’t wait to welcome our loyal fans back to the rink and feel your support in the stands.
ROCCO TULLIO PRESIDENT & GOVERNOR
Starting in the new year, fans will begin to see major renovations take shape at the arena—a place the Generals have proudly called home for decades, and will continue to for years to come. These enhancements will honor our deep-rooted history while ushering in a new era of excellence, elevating the game-day experience for players and fans alike. From improved facilities to refreshed fan spaces, the upgrades will reflect the pride and spirit of the Oshawa community. This investment not only reinforces our commitment to the organization but celebrates the city we represent—with full completion slated for late 2027.

AROUND THE OHL AS OF JANUARY 9TH
EAST DIVISION
BRANTFORD BULLDOGS
While the Bulldogs remain one of the biggest threats in the entire league, their Eastern Conference lead is no more. Thanks to a combination of a .500 stretch since December and the Ottawa 67’s getting red hot, they are two points out of the number one seed.
Brantford’s sudden ‘win one, lose on’ stretch has been because of inconsistency on offense and the club’s overall effort on most nights. Jake O’Brien and Marek Vanacker have gotten into their first cold slumps of the year as each have three points in their last five. Vanacker does, however, still lead the league in goals with 28 and Caleb Malhotra has been driving the offense recently with 16 points in eleven games. In fact, he is now the Bulldogs’ leading scorer and top-three in the league in that department with 50 points. With Adam Benak, Jett Luchanko, Adam Jiricek and Ben Danford all returning from the U20 World Juniors, Brantford will be happy to have them back in their lineup down the stretch. They also landed Charlie Paquette from Guelph and Gabriel Frasca from Erie to get more top-heavy. Despite their rough patch, the Bulldogs have their full team for the first time since mid-December, setting up an interesting back half of the season as they contend for the East.
CENTRAL DIVISION
BARRIE C O L T S
Even with the likes of Cole Beaudoin, Kashawn Aitcheson and Emil Hemming away at the World Juniors for the last few weeks, the Colts continue their winning ways and keep a firm lead in the Central Division.
With seven wins in their last ten and points in 17 of 20, Barrie keeps their balance no matter who is out of their lineup. With the absences of the forementioned big three, Brad Gardiner and Joe Salandra are among those who have stepped up in scoring. The Colts’ main strength continues to be their rough and tough defensive hockey, allowing the fifth-least amount of goals with the help of netminder Ben Hrebik, who leads the league in Save Percentage at an impressive .929 and is third overall in saves with 933 of them. They might not have a whole lot of scoring depth in their bottom six, but Barrie addressed that by adding Ben Wilmott from London and Mason Zebeski from Brampton as well as Parker Von Richter for the blue line, further bolstering their team before the trade deadline. As they enter the second half of the season, the Colts just keeps on humming along thanks to their style of play. Things are only expected to get better for them as they get their core guys back on board.
MIDWEST DIVISION
E R I E OTTERS
The Otters have gained a little more momentum and confidence since the start of the season – taking seven of their last 15 – but will still have work to do if they want a shot at the eighth seed in the Western Conference.
There is not too much to be excited about offensively for Erie as they rank second-last in goals, but Michael Dec has looked great since coming over from Owen Sound for Wesley Royston a couple of months ago, potting 27 points in 23 games since joining the club. Despite the Otters inching closer to a playoff spot, they shipped off many faces before the trade deadline – most notably Dylan Edwards to the Kitchener Rangers, Alex Misiak to the Kingston Frontenacs and Gabriel Frasca to the Brantford Bulldogs. Currently five points out of the final playoff spot in the West, there is still a chance for Erie to make a second-half push if they keep playing the hockey they have been down the stretch.
WEST DIVISION
SAULT STE. MARIE
GREYHOUNDS
Sault Ste. Marie has been hovering around .500 for the last little bit and have cooled off with four losses in five games. In fairness, the Greyhounds have been without Brady Martin and Chase Reid for several weeks as they competed at the World Juniors.
Despite getting one of their top forwards back from the Canadian team this weekend, Martin will not play for a while after sustaining an injury during the tournament. However, as long as Quinn McKenzie and Marco Mignosa keep scoring, the void should well be filled. While the offense is still producing thanks to a pleather of scoring depth and have the SOO as the league’s fifth-highest scoring team, keeping the puck out of the net has suddenly become the issue with 32 goals against in the club’s last eight games. Part of the defensive issue has been between the pipes as Landon Miller and Noah Tegelaar each have sub .900 Save Percentages. However, they hope their move to bring in Carter George from Owen Sound will help ease the issue with both his OHL and World Juniors experience. Even with the recent struggles, the SOO are still well in a playoff spot but will have some work to do in the second half of the season as they are 12 points back of their division leaders.

GAME DAY PREVIEW The Oshawa Generals return home for a Sunday evening tilt with the Barrie Colts. This is the second meeting of the season between the Eastern Conference finalists from a year ago. In fact, this is the first time the two have met in Oshawa since the Generals completed the four-game sweep of the Colts in last year’s third round series. Owen Griffin recorded two goals and an assist that night to send the Gens to the OHL Finals. Barrie comes to town with vengeance on the minds of returning players like Kashawn Aitcheson and Cole Beaudoin no doubt. The Colts one-upped Oshawa earlier this season on their home ice in what was an eventful 5-3 victory for them. That first meeting, however, was in early-October and both teams have re-shaped their rosters since. Barrie looks the most different after acquiring forwards Ben Wilmott and Mason Zebeski as well as defender Parker Von Richter at the trade deadline. After dropping both road games this week, Oshawa will not only look to get the offense rolling again after just three goals in their contests against Peterborough and Kitchener but will also hope to keep the Colts’ top guns in order. Both teams come into this one having played a lot of hockey lately with the Generals playing their third game in four nights while the Colts wrap up a triple-header this weekend. The Gens have also taken six wins in Barrie’s last nine visits to the TCC. In his first game in front of Gens Nation, Matthew Wang will hope to contribute to Oshawa’s offense turning back around. Acquired from the Flint Firebirds at last week’s trade deadline, the over-ager from London, ON, has 46 points in 139 OHL games overall. So far, he has started on the Generals’ top left-wing spot in both games for his new team. On Barrie’s side, they are happy to have Emil Hemming back from the U20 World Juniors, where he recorded three goals with team Finland. Hemming has 29 points in 18 games since rejoining the Colts in October, and while his shot is usually his most dangerous offensive asset, this year it has been his playmaking that makes him a threat with 21 assists.

LAST GAME RECAP JANUARY 9TH, 2026 The Oshawa Generals finished their brief road stint with a 4-2 defeat at the hands of the Kitchener Rangers in a game where not a lot went their way. With the trade deadline passing at 12pm today, neither team made anymore moves and their newest acquisitions all played tonight. This was the second game that both Matthew Wang and Artem Frolov played for the Generals. After the Rangers held a pre-game ceremony – inducting Brian Bellows into their Level of Legacy program – they got off to a solid start with most of the scoring chances, but Jaden Cholette was equally as strong in goal early on and throughout this game. Eventually though, Avry Anstis tipped in Matthew Andonovski’s point shot from just outside the crease to give Kitchener the lead past the halfway mark of the first. The Rangers finished the first with 13 shots, but only had a one-goal lead thanks to Cholette standing tall. Struggling to get offense going in the opening period, the Generals began the second on the penalty kill and Kitchener converted quickly with Dylan Edwards finishing glove-side on a broken play in front of the Oshawa goal. Down by two with not a lot going their way, Oshawa got a big opportunity to get back in the game not only with a two-man-advantage midway through the second, but a long five-minute power play overlapping as well. Unfortunately, they could not convert on the five-on-three and Jared Woolley, an old foe from London in his first game with the Rangers, was sprung on a breakaway out of the box and he put it past Cholette’s glove to give his new team a 3-0 lead. With a rough first 39 minutes, the Gens would get life in the final minute of the second. Harrison Franssen forced a turnover on the farside, fed Anthony Figliomeni darting to the net and he put it short-side on Christian Kirsch for Oshawa’s first goal. Entering the third down two, the Generals got a couple of scoring looks early on but could not make good of them thanks in part to Kitchener’s sound defense blocking shots and passing lanes, as well as goaltender Kirsch coming up with some big saves of his own. Despite Franssen netting one from the slot to make it 3-2 with 1:23 left, Kitchener fended off another Oshawa comeback attempt against them by locking things down and Christian Humphreys sealed it with an empty netter. The Rangers not only snap the Generals’ win streak at Kitchener Memorial Auditorium, but also earn the two-game season series sweep against them. Oshawa, on the heels of a slow start, were unable to dig themselves out of a three-goal deficit against a steady defense. Jaden Cholette did bounce back after being pulled in his last appearance and was strong for a lot of this game, but Christian Kirsch, in his first game back since representing Switzerland at the World Juniors, did his part for the Rangers as well.
