Operation "Best Foot Forward" Orlando, FL - To keep roads safe for more than 191,000 Orange County children starting summer break, the Orlando Police Department (OPD) and Orange County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) were out in full force reminding drivers to yield to pedestrians in marked crosswalks during Operation Best Foot Forward on June 11. During Operation Best Foot Forward, undercover officers wear plain clothes and cross the street at a marked crosswalk, giving motorists enough time to yield. Motorists who failed to yield were issued a warning or a ticket - costing them $164 and three (3) points on their license. Officers were around Orange County nine different crosswalks. At Conway Road and Hargill Drive, an undercover officer waited to cross back and forth for 40 minutes with only two cars yielding. Officers gave 113 citations and 21 warnings.

Studies show that crosswalk enforcement is critical in boosting the number of drivers who yield to pedestrians because vehicle-versuspedestrian culture flourishes when unchecked. Best Foot Forward uses high visibility enforcement, education and outreach, and engineering improvements to make roads safer for everyone in Orange County. In 2014, there were 74 pedestrian crashes involving Orange County kids 14 years old and younger. OPD and OCSO have issued more than 1,915 tickets and given more than 3,995 warnings through Operation Best Foot Forward since June 2012. The number of drivers who yield to pedestrians has increased from 12 to 48 percent on roads posted 35 mph and lower. The number of drivers who yield to pedestrians has increased from 1 to 23 percent on roads posted 40 mph and higher.

Unlike other medical facilities in the Hunter’s Creek area, it provides 24/7 emergency services for adult and pediatric patients. The freestanding ER can handle all types of medical situations, from accidents to minor illness to children’s care. The location in northern Osceola provides quicker, personalized service and quality medical care to the area. The one-story facility cost $10

million to build and covers 10,600 square feet. It has 11 private patient care beds, a separate ambulance entrance, a diagnostic laboratory, and imaging services (including CT scan, ultrasound and X-ray). The Hunter’s Creek ER is staffed by some 45 healthcare professionals, including ER physicians. The ER is fully equipped at the same high level of medical technology as the Emergency Department at Osceola Regional in Kissimmee. Emergency transportation to Osceola Regional is also available for patients requiring inpatient hospital care, or who need treatment at the new Trauma Center Provisional Level II at the main hospital. “We are honored that South Orlando residents are choosing Hunter’s Creek ER for quality and compassionate emergency services,” said Robert Krieger, Chief Executive Officer of Osceola Regional Medical Center. “Our dedicated, experienced staff looks forward to continue to provide healthcare services for many more years to come.” The Hunter’s Creek ER is located at 12100 John Young Parkway, a few blocks from the JW Marriott and the Ritz Carlton. It is the HCA’s second freestanding ER in Central Florida, with the Oviedo ER near Sanford. For more information, visit HuntersCreekER.com.

Olaf’s Summer Cool Down

“Frozen” Summer Fun Live Orlando, FL - The fun heats up “Frozen” Summer Fun June 17 through Sept. 7 daily at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Guest favorites Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and Olaf are welcomed to Hollywoodland twice each day as they take part in the Frozen Royal Welcome, a festive cavalcade throughout Disney’s Hollywood Studios, accompanied by the Royal Arendelle Flag Corps and a flurry of skaters, skiers and ice cutters. During the cavalcade, Anna leads the procession in an elaborate horse-drawn sleigh, with Elsa gliding by on a stunning, ice palace float. The entire procession pauses twice along the route in tribute to these visitors from Arendelle, as guests in Hollywoodland are invited to join in singing “Let It Go!” The popular show, For the First Time in Forever: A “Frozen” Sing-Along Celebration, welcomes guests in the beautiful Hyperion Theater, located right in the heart of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The Royal Historians of Arendelle host this fun and comedic retelling of the unique story of their kingdom, filled with delightful, sing-along moments from “Frozen,” plus all-new in-theater effects and special appearances by Anna, Elsa and Kristoff. Outside of the theater, there is a new merchandise location filled with all-things “Frozen”. But that’s not all that’s in store for guests visiting “Frozen” Summer Fun. The fun centers around the Event Stage throughout the day, with Olaf’s Summer Cool Down — where Olaf keeps things cool several times each

day. Having always dreamed of being in “snow business,” Olaf is joined by some of his summery friends to sing his famed number, “In Summer,” inviting the audience to join in. Then, Olaf sends a flurry from his personal snow cloud out over the audience in an icy blast. Twice each hour beginning at 10 a.m. daily, guests also can view a showing of the new animated short, “Frozen Fever,” which debuted in theaters with Disney’s live-action “Cinderella,” and a behindthe-scenes look at the making of the film inside the ABC Sound Studio. Then once the sun goes down, DJ Chill and some favorite Disney Characters take to the stage to host the “Coolest Summer Ever” Dance Party. As the night comes to a close, Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and Olaf come together at the Event Stage for a grand finale to the day’s festivities, kicking off an aweinspiring “Frozen” Fireworks display set to the music of “Frozen” and, of course, a flurry of snow! There’s also the “Frozen” Summer Fun Premium Package option for guests to purchase at an additional cost that includes reserved viewing for the Frozen Royal Welcome complete with regal refreshments of water, soft drinks and ice cream, reserved seating for a showing of For the First Time In Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration and Frozen Fireworks viewing paired with a Frozen-themed dessert party complete with specialty desserts, cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages. Charleston llegó a jugar.

Third time’s a charm for Orlando City By Amanda Ludick Orlando, FL - Last Sunday, in their match at home against D.C. United, Orlando finally escaped with the win. Orlando came out with confidence and controlled the ball well. In the 28th minute of play, Ribeiro was fouled in the 18. Kaka took the penalty kick. Bill Hamid, D.C. United’s goalkeeper, blocked his shot but Kaka followed it and was able to nod the ball into the net. The 30th minute of play made history for the MLS. The referee whistled for a hydration break and gave another one at the 75th minute. This is the first year where a hydration break is required if the temperature reaches 89.6 degrees or higher. The heat with Orlando’s humidity made temperatures unbearable. Orlando continued to maintain possession the majority of the game and despite their best efforts; they were not able to double their score. Orlando did, however, hold on to the lead and beat D.C. United in front of over 35,000 fans. The win against the leaders in the Eastern Conference moved Orlando into third place in the Eastern Conference. Orlando had another match this week. They faced the Charleston Battery in the US Open Cup. Charleston and Orlando have a long history of rivalry and Wednesday night’s match was no different. Charleston came to play. Both teams battled back and forth the first half but after 45 minutes of play, neither team was on the scoreboard. Thirteen minutes into the second half Charleston took the lead by finishing off a corner kick. It took Orlando another 6 minutes to find their equalizer. Tyler Turner sent a cross to Lewis Neal who was able to head the ball in. Charleston was quick to respond though and took the lead on the next play. In the 74th minute of play, Rafael Ramos was taken down in the box on a very aggressive defensive play. Carlos Rivas took the penalty kick and tied things up. After four minutes of stoppage time, the game was sent into overtime still tied at 2. Orlando took an early lead when Rivas was taken down in the box giving Orlando their second penalty kick of the night. A third penalty kick would come ten minutes later letting Orlando take a commanding lead of 4-2. In the final 15 minutes of play, Charleston responded by scoring two more goals and forcing the match to go to penalty kicks. Each team took ten penalty kicks. Orlando was able to win with 8 completed PKs to Charleston’s 7. Orlando City will play again this Saturday against the Montreal Impact. The Lions will play at home on the 24th against the Colorado Rapids.
