and encourage the local community to express their support for Enterprise Florida and Visit Florida. Scott said, “Visitors spent $109 billion and supported a record 1.4 million Florida jobs in 2016 – a testament to the vital importance of tourism to our growing economy. These two entities helped bring 16,924 jobs to Osceola County since 2010 and 7.8 million visitors to Osceola County since 2015.” The two public/private partnerships are part of a proposed bill to be defunded. Helfenberger expressed to the governor the importance of his support to move St. Cloud forward with economicdevelopment projects, such as the Florida Turnpike Exchange on Kissimmee Park Road.

The Osceola County School District is planning ahead for the upcoming spring by allowing students in all grade levels to have a full day of school on the Wednesdays when testing will be administered. As such, parents should be advised that there will be no early release of students on the following Wednesdays: • March 1, 2017 – In-School SAT Day • April 12, 2017 • April 19, 2017 • April 26, 2017 • May 3, 2017 Students will be dismissed from
school on these days as they normally would on a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. By lengthening the Wednesdays during testing, it allows more flexibility of the school-wide testing schedule. Schools will now have options to build in more opportunities for breaks between the different testing sessions to allow students to stretch, relax, and refocus. Parents and students are also reminded that the 2017-2018 academic calendar for next school year can be found on the district's website at www.osceolaschools. net.

St. Cloud Fire Rescue invites public to witness live-burn demonstrations St. Cloud, FL – St. Cloud Fire Rescue (SCFR) personnel will be conducting two live-burn demonstrations to clearly show the public how working smoke alarms and sprinklers save lives and how rapidly fire truly spreads. The demonstrations will be held: • Feb. 25, 3:00 p.m. - Community Unity event at Hopkins Park (620 E. 17th St.) • March 4, 12:00 p.m. - St. Cloud Life event in front of City Hall (1300 9th St.) “These demonstrations are great awareness tools because they show the effectiveness of a working sprinkler system and a working smoke alarm,” said SCFR Fire Marshal Richard Tonks. “The live-burn demonstration is also an eye-opener for the public. In a safe environment, they see how rapidly a fire spreads. In a controlled setting, we start off by burning a small room with no sprinkler system and a
crew extinguishing it. We then set a fire to an identical room, but this one is equipped with a working sprinkler system. The public sees the vast difference between the two rooms and this helps them realize why they need to ensure they have working smoke alarms and sprinklers in their homes.” SCFR personnel have conducted these side-by-side live-burn demonstrations annually in the past three years and have seen how effective the demonstrations have been by the looks of amazement on the people’s faces and their comments after each demonstration. Everyone is invited to stop by to witness the demonstrations, learn about the importance of having working smoke alarms and sprinkler systems and ask questions about escape plans and other household fire-safety concerns.

Hydrilla treatment scheduled for Lake Kissimmee Kissimmee, FL- The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) will treat portions of Lake Kissimmee in Osceola County for invasive hydrilla from Feb. 20 through March 3, weather permitting. The FWC will treat 404 acres of Lake Kissimmee using herbicides approved for use in lakes by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. There are no restrictions on fishing and swimming in the treated area. Hydrilla is an invasive aquatic plant
spread easily by boats throughout the state’s lakes and rivers. While recreational anglers and waterfowl hunters may see some benefits from hydrilla, there are other potential impacts to consider, including negative impacts to beneficial native habitat, navigation, flood control, potable and irrigation water supplies, recreation and the aesthetic qualities of lakes. The FWC strives to balance these needs while managing hydrilla. For more information about this treatment, contact Danielle Kirkland, FWC invasive plant management regional biologist, at 863-534-7074.

Not a lot change with the Magics Time will tell if a week off for the All-Star break did the Magic any good. While most of the team had time off, Aaron Gordon participated in the Dunk Contest for the second consecutive year. Gordon’s performance this year did not measure up to last year’s and he was eliminated in the first round. With the season, more than halfway over and the playoffs well out of reach, Orlando is hopefully playing to beat their record last season.
The Orlando Magic have lost 7 of their last 10 games and have a record of 21 wins and 37 losses so far, this season. The NBA trade deadline hit thursday at 3pm and the only move the Magic made was to trade Serge Ibaka to the Raptors for Terrence Ross. Ross is expected to make his Magic debut this weekend. The Magic will host the Atlanta Hawks saturday at the Amway Center followed by the New York Knicks on Wednesday.

BARTACO / 7699 Dr. Phillips Boulevard, Orlando Tel: 407801-8226
Bartaco A new concept in Californian bar and Mexican authentic "taquería"... is the second in Florida (originated in Tampa) and has arrived in Orlando at 7699 Dr. Phillips Boulevard, Suite 28 (Marketplace). Flows a very cozy atmosphere, walls painted in white wash, and different areas where you can choose according to how you "feel" that day and your mood allows you. It enclaves a bar in the center of the restaurant, resort-beach type, which gives a warm and relaxing tropical atmosphere & "ambiance". They have outdoor roofed terrace with tables, where you would love spending the day slurping their exotic Margaritas and other special drinks. They have developed a variety of drinks in which they use a "surprise" ingredient which gives a unique and special palate; let's say something like syrup candy and jalapeno pepper! This exterior terrace offer lunches from only $10 USD, tasting in some, three (3) tacos to choose from its great variety and a soup or salad. The regular tacos in their menu are varied, whether it be the "pastor",
spicy "chorizo", chicken, fish, and many others. They also offer options for Vegetarians such as taco portobello with fresh cheese, cauliflower, and falafel, which are Lebanese fries made from chickpeas and spices, as well as tuna tacos, shrimp or oysters. They also feature a variety of more exotic "gourmet" tacos for discerning palates such as pork belly tacos, sesame rib eye (steak) and duck. BARTACO has options for people who are in special diets free of flour, when they substitute tortillas of flour or corn for lettuce leaves. Prices for their varied menu in tacos range from $ 2.50 / $ 3.50 each. To end the experience, their desserts, which show different flavors of ice cream on the cone, the "spicy chocolate pudding" and my favorite, "churros" with chocolate sauce, freshly made! A treat!!! They offer a children's menu, with juices and sodas of various kinds. BARTACO / 7699 Dr. Phillips Boulevard, Orlando Tel: 407-8018226801-8226.
