La Junta de KUA adopta un presupuesto de $222 millones Kissimmee, FL - La junta directiva de Kissimmee Utility Authority aprobó un presupuesto de capital operativo y de $222 millones para el año fiscal 2020. La votación se realizó después de un taller y una audiencia pública sobre el presupuesto. El presupuesto aprobado es una disminución del 13 por ciento del presupuesto de 2019. Kissimmee, FL - The Kissimmee Utility Authority board of directors approved a $222 million operating and capital budget for fiscal year 2020. The vote came after a workshop and public hearing on the budget.
Other highlights of the FY 2020 budget include:
The approved budget is a 13 percent decrease from the 2019 budget. The decrease is related to the restructuring of debt payments and a reduction in capital expenditures. The budget also marks the utility’s 15th consecutive year without a base rate increase. The utility’s last base rate increase was in July 2005.
• $29.9 million for transfers to the City of Kissimmee and Osceola County for electric sales and taxes
The budget authorizes 289 full-time equivalent positions, no change from the current budget, and reflects a three percent market level adjustment for employees.

Ricardo Rosselló issued a statement saying he respects Wednesday’s demonstration as a “democratic exercise” and “a natural manifestation of bitterness over recent events,” but would not resign. “I firmly believe it’s possible to restore confidence,” Rosselló said, adding that he has asked and continues to ask for islanders’ forgiveness. The crowd ranged from teenagers to retirees, with some waving the island’s flag printed in black and gray rather than red, white and blue to symbolize their discontent with a government they call corrupt and unresponsive to its people. Musicians Ricky Martin, Residente and Bad Bunny marched and addressed the crowd. The turnout filled several city blocks in
colonial Old San Juan but appeared to fall short of the many tens of thousands that some Rosselló opponents had predicted. Many older protesters went home before nightfall as chanting young people filled Old San Juan’s Totem Plaza and the first few blocks leading up to the 16th century fortress where the governor resides. The island is mired in crises. It is struggling to emerge from a debtdriven financial failure and a more than decade-long recession. It needs federal funding to help recover from Hurricane Maria, the 2017 storm that devastated the island’s electrical system and a months-long failure to provide care to the elderly and medically vulnerable. The outrage erupted after Rosselló’s former secretary of education and five other people were arrested on charges of steering federal money to unqualified, politically connected contractors. Singer Ricky Martin said in a video message posted online: “Puerto Rico has suffered so much and we can’t deal with the cynicism of these leaders anymore. Enough already. Enough already.”

As is now obvious to everyone, Obamacare made healthcare even more expensive. Premiums are up. Copays are up. Deductibles are WAY up. Obamacare has been a disaster, and even the Democrats are admitting it. They want Medicare-for-All, which would ruin the Medicare system and throw 150 million people off the private insurance they like. That would be a disaster, but there is something we can do and must do right now to help American families – we must lower prescription drug costs. This is very personal for me. I grew up in a family without healthcare. My mom struggled to find care for my brother who had a serious disease. Eventually she found a charity hospital four hours away for his treatment. I remember asking my mom how much lower drug costs would have to be for her to consider changing pharmacies. Without missing a beat, she said “only one dollar.” This story is not uncommon. All over the State of Florida, I hear the same thing: “Drug prices are rising, and we’re having trouble affording the life-saving medication we need.” I recently met Sabine Rivera, a 12-yearold from Naples, Florida, who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes more than two years ago. Sabine is already worried about how she will afford the rising cost of insulin – something no 12-year-old should have to stress about. Patients want to shop for better coverage and lower costs, but too often, they can’t or don’t know how. At the same time, pharmaceutical companies are charging low prices for prescription drugs in Canada, Europe, and Japan, but charging American consumers significantly more. Why? Because for too long, politicians have done nothing. Americans consumers are subsidizing the cost of prescription drugs in Europe and Canada and all over the world. Why should we do that?
That’s certainly not putting America first. That’s not putting American families first. That’s why I’m working with President Trump and Republicans and Democrats in Congress to fix this problem. I recently introduced the America First Drug Pricing Plan with Senator Josh Hawley to take real steps to lower costs for patients and put the consumer back in charge of their healthcare decisions. Part one of my bill focuses on transparency. First, pharmacies MUST inform patients what it would cost to purchase drugs out-of-pocket instead of using their insurance and co-pay. If patients choose to pay out-of-pocket (which is often cheaper), the total cost would be applied to their deductible. Second, insurance companies MUST inform patients of the total costs of their prescription drugs 60 days prior to open enrollment. This will allow patients to be consumers and shop around for the best deal. And finally, my bill would simply require that drug companies cannot charge American consumers more for prescription drugs than the lowest price they charge consumers in other industrialized nations. I’ve found that this provision is controversial in Washington. You know where it’s not controversial? Everywhere else. In Tampa, Orlando, Miami, Panama City, and all across Florida, this just makes sense. I don’t spend much time outside of Florida, but I would wager in states across the country, my bill makes a lot of sense too. Why would we, American consumers, who make up 40% of the market for prescription drugs, pay two to six times more for drugs than consumers in Europe or Canada or Japan? That needs to change. My bill takes real steps to change it. I believe this should have bipartisan support. I also led seven of my colleagues in a letter to pharmaceutical companies asking them to work with us on solutions to lower the cost of prescription drugs. We’re still waiting to hear back. American consumers are facing a crisis of rising drugs costs and we can’t wait any longer. I will not and cannot accept the status quo of rising drug costs. We need to get something done this year, and I’m fighting every day to make sure we do.

The new service provider will be Advanced Disposal Services (ADS). They were selected through a competitive bid process of which the current service providers did not respond to.

After 20 years of very gradual increases, this increase is necessary to meet the cost of garbage collection and disposal, processing of recyclables, and to allow for efficient services through the use of automated carts, and trucks. Osceola County warns about unlicensed contractors Osceola County, FL - Before Hurricane season heats up, many residents may be trying to check off home improvement/safety items on their to-do lists. Amid reports of unlicensed contractors in the area, Osceola County urges residents to make sure contractors are qualified to perform requested work. The Florida State Department of Business and Professional Regulation requires that contractors be licensed with the State as either certified contractors (statewide) or registered contractors (local). Areas of licensure include, but are not limited to, air conditioning, alarm systems, building, mechanical, plumbing, residential, roofing, sheet metal, and electrical. Many unlicensed contractors do not carry any liability insurance, which could result in an owner who has hired that contractor being held personally liable for damages caused by their negligent work. If for example, an unlicensed contractor breaks a pipe that leads to water damage of a neighboring property, you can potentially be sued for damages. A licensed contractor must put their license number in advertisements and carry general liability, property damage, and worker’s compensation insurance. Be wary of anyone who approaches you unsolicited or says they can perform home repairs at a discount with leftover supplies from another job. Consider it a warning sign if a contractor uses high pressure sales tactics. Other Red flags: • Unlicensed contractors will ask you to obtain the permit or advice you that you don’t need one. If you call the Osceola County Building Office (407-742-0200), the staff will be more than happy to advise you whether or not a permit is required for your particular job. • Unlicensed contractors often will not
provide the consumer with a written contract or guarantee. • Unlicensed contractors will not have a valid contractor’s number on their contracts or advertisements. • Unlicensed contractors often want to do the construction work on weekends. • Unlicensed contractors may promise you a large discount if you sign up immediately. • Beware if a contractor has a post office address with no street address, or gives a local motel as his address. • Beware of people wanting to do a free home inspection. Always verify that they are a licensed contractor prior to allowing them to do such inspections. • Beware of people soliciting to do a roof repair, asphalt or texture coating of driveways. • Unlicensed contractors normally use unmarked vans or trucks. • Often, unlicensed contractors will become abusive and threatening when you refuse to do business with them. Do not give a deposit or sign a contract until you have confirmed that the contractor is licensed. Ask the contractor to leave the contract with you and come back the next day. This gives you the time to look it over without being pressured or intimidated. Also, you can contact the Building Office if you suspect a possible problem. Jarvis grabbed the lead from teammate Harry Tincknell in the No. 55 Mazda Daytona Prototype international (DPi) car on the final pit stop with just under 50 minutes remaining in the race and led the rest of the way, crossing the stripe 1.699 seconds ahead of Tincknell. Fifty years after Apollo 11 made its historic launch, leading to the first two people landing on the Moon, Duran Duran hosted a 50th anniversary concert on Tuesday (July 16) in celebration at the Rocket Garden at Kennedy Space Center.
