ANGLING SECTION REPORT- December 2013 & January 2014 Boat Fishing is a busy weekend for the area so don’t miss out!!! Also we have our AAA state boat competition being held on the 22nd March out of HYC and then on the 29th March a Mandurah Shield will be run were we have a boat fishing competition against the Mandurah Fishing Club. So busy times ahead, but remember its fishing and that what we love to do , so make sure you get the info you need to be part of the fun.
The December boat fishing competition was held on the 21st to be fished outside the demersal closure period, so this is why the report is a bit later than normal. Just as well though because a few demersal were caught and the best of the day was a 15.7kg Jewfish caught by Francis McKeown. Another fine catch was a 2.1kg Baldchin caught by Joe Wettinger and also caught on Joe’s boat was a 2.9kg Queen Snapper by Anthony Weir. A number of King George Whiting were also caught by myself and Carmen Irwin but the heaviest went to Terry Bell at 0.92kg. The day saw 8 boats sign on with 18 anglers fishing, but again no juniors or mini juniors fished!!!!. Another stand out fish caught and not seen too often was a 1.5kg Harlequin caught by Daniel Bell. Winners in the different categories were Denis Roberts in the Vets, Carmen Irwin in the Ladies and Daniel Bell in the men’s. There was no competition held for the month of January due to a strong wind warning issued for Perth Local waters on Saturday 4th and then on the Sunday which is the carry over day, the required number of 4 boats was not achieved, so the day was a wash out. Hopefully the weather will be kinder for us in February. Members need to remember that the Jurien Bay away fishing trip is coming up, happening on the 1st March which is the long week-end. Accommodation should be booked ASAP as this

There was no competition held for the month of February due to a strong wind warnings issued for Perth Local waters on Saturday 1st and then on the Sunday which is the carry over day.

Power Boat Section
This Sky Show was the thirtieth anniversary and our members Ron and Dora were invited to showcase Kiewa in a sail past. Didn’t she look spectacular!
Hello to anyone with a power boat and those without but are looking. We had two trips planned from the last Tide with the first trip expected on the weekend of 3 – 5 January. Unfortunately this was cancelled due to many reasons but mainly due to the holiday season. Never mind as a future Rottnest Trip is expected on 22 March for the weekend. On 26 January our section arranged an overnighter trip to watch the Sky Show and later anchor up. We met at the Claisebrook Inlet using the pens outside the former Lamont’s Restaurant.
Watching the event from the water was fantastic. It was cool and comfortable, a very pleasant evening. That’s enough of the words, let the pictures describe the rest:
From there we drifted around to the southern tip of Heirisson Island and anchored among others. There is always room around so it is quite relaxing, even if a little bouncy with the wind waves.

Upcoming events for the section include: 22 February 2014 – Run north up the coast from Ocean Reef ending at Mindarie Keys for drinks on Kiewa and an overnight stay for those interested. 22 March 2014 – Weekend trip to Rottnest 18 April 2014 – Weekend stay at Cockburn Power Boat Association Club for Easter. After the fireworks, all boats upped anchor and headed back to Claisebrook Inlet, which was not crowded so we all moored next to each other. The morning saw many of us wander down to the coffee shop and start the day as it should be. Congratulations to the Macauley’s (Brian and Ava) who brought their troop of kids to watch on their boat and successfully stayed their first night with everyone sleeping on the boat. Good effort! From a personal perspective, the night on the water does bring out the “Stupid People” and last year we headed with the masses to the debacle that was the Maylands Ramp. Enjoying the night and sleeping on your boat certainly made the event enjoyable and we didn’t see many “Stupid People” – very refreshing.

Hi Everyone, I can’t believe we are already well into February for 2014! And it will be March by the time you read this. I hope you have all had a fantastic start to your year. There are a number of functions planned in the coming months. We are a bit short on help for these so if you can spare a bit of time please give me a call.
• 25/5/13 - Quiz night – Book your tickets early for this one as these events always sell out fast. Tickets are $12 each and up to 8 on each table. This is a Quiz night with a difference and we have an outside professional compare for the night – Mr John Lennon.
Past events:
• 7/6/14 Rock and Roll 50/60’s night. The RSL are holding a rock n roll night and have very kindly invited club members to this event. Dress up in your best 50/60’s gear and come along and dance to the band. Tickets will be $25.00 of which proceeds will go to the RSL. Tickets are limited so book early. Tickets on sale in April.

New Year’s Eve was a fantastic night with everyone getting into the swing of things and dressing up in costume. We had so many fabulous costumes it was hard to pick a winner. The DJ had a very tough decision but Clive Powel as the Child Catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was the winner for the men and Colleen Davies as a Glamorous Warrior won for the ladies. The DJ played some fabulous music and the dance floor was packed for most of the night. There were a total of 156 tickets sold. If you missed out remember to book early next time.

Austen Tayshus performed on the 8th February to what must have been his smallest ever audience. There were only 49 tickets sold which was very disappointing. Please support your club for these types of events. Paula put on a beautiful 3 course meal which was followed by 80 minutes of a very funny and clever show. Not sure if any of the ladies got to his car but he invited quite a few to join him there. Everyone took the jibes in good spirit including “Kemo Man”. 12
