Sadly this is my last report as your Commodore, now that I am coming of myreport third as yearyour in this role. Remember they are all volunteers and give a lot to the club! Without doubt the high point for this last month was the Commodores Ball on July 7th, which was, I think, one of the best ever. The food was exceptional and drew a lot of compliments from our visiting guests as well as so many members—so really well done PAULA. The entertainer and band were also great. Dealing with the cold was another problem. Accommodation was fairly basic and, of course, there 2 was no heating. Overnight temperatures were well below zero. For me the highlight of the trip was climbing Kala Patar – at 5,554m (about 18,000ft) a mere “pimple” in the Himalayan landscape. The climb started at 4am to be rewarded by a view of sunrise over Everest at dawn. At the summit I was pretty thirsty after the 3 hour climb, so I reached for my water bottle – only to find it completely frozen. Would I recommend this trip? Definitely. We saw people of all ages, shapes and sizes on the trail. For most it wasn’t easy. But that’s part of the reward. 4

GALLEY HOURS In the State Championships, yet again we did very well as a club with our 1st Men’s team winning convincingly and Wednesday 6.00pm – 8.00pm MICHAEL BEASLEY Daniel Bell ending up runner-up overall in the Men’s individual.Friday Daniel got beaten by a Geraldton local who managed 6.30pm – 9.00pm COMMODORE. Sunday 8.00pm to get a Dhufish off the beach, plus numerous other species. We packed up about 9am for the road trip to Steep. Then the dramas begin. Ron took the lead. I had to stop occasionally, as I kept catching up with Ron’s2 dust. Then, bang, flap, flap, flap.....I look in the wing mirror and see flapping from the left hand rear. I call Ron on the radio and tell him I think I’ve done a sidewall. I will update him when I know more. As luck would have it (or not) I’ve picked up a rubber bungee. The “S” hook is embedded in the tread and the bungee is flapping round trying to wreck everything underneath. I remove the bungee, call Ron to say all’s ok, and continue.

From the Commodore 10 Minutes or so later, Ron calls up to say he has lost a wheel. Insert explicative here. When we catch up, it’s worse losing a wheel. I tell Ron he needs a good wheel aligner.
