What’s a DMO? It stands for Destination Marketing Organization, and it means that the Town of Oro Valley is now authorized and responsible for tourism promotion and marketing of this amazing community yearround. Visit Tucson had previously served as the Town’s DMO, but with this new designation, the Town has begun implementing a new tourism strategy, which focuses primarily on prospecting group booking opportunities, such as large conferences and sporting events, and then providing those leads to the Town’s partners at local resort and hotel properties. Community and Economic Development Director Paul Melcher wrote an article that details this new strategy. The article is entitled “Town Talk: Oro Valley’s new tourism strategy is off to a strong start,” and it is available at orovalleyaz.gov. CLICK HERE or just search for TOURISM STRATEGY.

Register now for Community Academy

September is Emergency Preparedness Month

Registration for Oro Valley's 27th annual Community Academy is now open! This year’s academy is focused on helping residents get ready to work on the community's next 10-year action plan, known as OV's Path Forward. Sign up today and secure your spot to learn how OV currently manages growth and traffic, maintains its water supply and public safety, conserves the environment and more!

Disasters disrupt thousands of lives every year, leaving behind lasting effects on people and property. Depending on the scope of the disaster, local first responders and other emergency assistance may not be able to reach you right away. You and your family can take simple steps now to prepare for emergencies.

Come participate in discussions about the essential operations and services of your community. Graduates will be in a uniquely informed position to join a resident working group for OV’s Path Forward or a Town Board or Commission. Classes will take place twice a week in October on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8 PM at Town Hall. CLICK HERE to see more information and register before September 27 for this free program at orovalleyaz.gov. Questions? Contact Jeanna Ancona at jancona@orovalleyaz.gov or (520)229-5062.

1. Know your risks and be informed by registering for local emergency alerts. 2. Make a plan for evacuation, sheltering in place, gathering emergency supplies, and communicating with our family. 3. Take action by understanding your insurance coverage and practicing your emergency plans. By following these steps, you can take back control in the uncertainty of disaster.
