DÉSIR D’EUROPE Le dossier des réfugiés a été au centre des préoccupations de la plupart des gouvernements européens ces dernière semaines. Ce n’est pas le propos, ici, de revenir sur tous les événements qui ont résulté des différents modes d’accueil de la vague des réfugiés, selon chaque pays concerné. Simplement, nous nous devions d’attirer l’attention sur le sondage Eurobaromètre, commandé par le Parlement européen et effectué en septembre, c’est à dire avant le tragique événement du corps du petit syrien gisant sur une plage. Près de deux tiers des personnes interrogées estiment que les décisions concernant l'immigration devraient être prises à l'échelle européenne plutôt que nationale, et huit citoyens sur dix déclarent que les demandeurs d'asile devraient être mieux répartis en Europe. Nous ne sommes ni des politiciens ni des sociologues, nous nous contenterons donc d’écrire ici qu’à une grosse majorité, les peuples européens émettent ainsi un véritable désir d’Europe… Jean-Luc Fournier Directeur de la rédaction / Editor / Redaktionsleiter

DESIRE FOR EUROPE The refugee issue has been a central concern of most European governments these last weeks. It is not the intention here to go back on all the events that resulted from the different ways of welcoming the wave of refugees, according to each country. Simply, we had to draw attention to the Eurobarometer survey, commissioned by the European Parliament and carried out in September, ie before the tragic event of the corpse of the little Syrian lying on a beach. Almost two thirds of respondents believe that decisions concerning immigration should be taken at European level rather than national, and eight out of ten citizens state that asylum seekers should be more evenly distributed in Europe. We are neither politicians nor sociologists, so we limit ourselves here only to write that a large majority of European peoples show a genuine desire for Europe ...

MEHR EUROPA Wie mit dem Ansturm der Flüchtlinge in Europa umzugehen ist, das trieb in den vergangenen Wochen die meisten Regierungen Europas um. Wir beschäftigen uns an dieser Stelle nicht damit, wie jedes einzelne Land reagiert hat. Wir verweisen lediglich auf die Umfrage des Eurobarometers von September im Auftrag des Europäischen Parlaments, die die Stimmung noch vor dem Auffinden des kleinen syrischen Jungen an einem türkischen Strand wiedergibt. Fast zwei Drittel der Befragten waren damals der Meinung, dass alle Entscheidungen in der Flüchtlingskrise und in der Frage der Einwanderung auf europäischer statt auf nationaler Ebene getroffen werden sollten. Acht von zehn Europäern forderten, dass Asylsuchende innerhalb Europas besser verteilt werden sollten. Wir sind weder Politiker noch Soziologen. Wir verweisen an dieser Stelle lediglich darauf, dass eine große Mehrheit der Europäer und Europäerinnen mehr gemeinsame europäische Politik einfordern.

MUSÉE WÜRTH Z I O u e st , R u e G e o r g e s B e s s e 6 7 1 5 8 E r st e i n Contact : 03 88 64 74 84 www.musee-wurth.fr/wp Jusqu’au 15 mai 2016 Pour la plupart des étrangers de passage à Strasbourg (le lectorat privilégié de Eurometropolitan Strasbourg), la visite de cette expo du peintre et sculpteur d’origine colombienne Fernand Botero sera d’abord marquée par la surprise de découvrir le musée Würth à Erstein. Rien ne prédisposait ce petit village tranquille, à 20 km au sud de la capitale européenne, à être le siège d’un musée à l’audience internationale. Rien, si ce n’est la présence du siège de Würth-France et la décision du PDG du groupe Reinhald Würth en personne d’installer à son siège français l’un des quinze musées que ce collectionneur invétéré a ouvert en Europe pour faire partager et « tourner » sa collection personnelle. Jusqu’au 15 mai prochain, ce sont donc les œuvres si typiques de Botero qui prennent place sur les cimaises de ce très beau musée. Cet ensemble, issu de la Collection Würth et de l’atelier de l’artiste, couvre une période allant des années 1960 jusqu’à aujourd’hui. On y retrouve bien sûr son style unique qui se révèle dans des formes rondes et généreuses, désormais connues du monde entier. L’exposition aborde différentes thématiques chères à l’artiste : la tauromachie, le cirque, l’Amérique Latine, la nature morte ou les références à l’histoire de l’art. Dans toutes ses œuvres, le comique, voire la satire, le dispute à la tristesse. Au sein même de l’exposition, le musée Würth n’a pas hésité à insérer une série baptisée Boterosutra qui, comme son nom le laisse à l’évidence supposer, s’inspire du Kâma-Sûtra. Cette section montre un Botero qui reste fidèle à son style figuratif naïf et voluptueux, représentant dans plus de 80 dessins, peintures et sculptures un couple faisant l’amour dans une grande variété de positions. Le corps, le nu et la sensualité ayant toujours occupé une place importante chez Fernando Botero, on ne s’étonne pas de voir abordé ici le thème de l’érotisme. On ne

peut que vous inciter à vous rendre à Erstein pour visiter cette exposition. D’abord parce que l’occasion est finalement somme toute assez rare de voir exposé en un même lieu une sélection aussi cohérente des œuvres d’un artiste qui se fait rare, même sur les cimaises des plus grands musées européens. Ensuite pour découvrir ce surprenant musée, littéralement enchassé au cœur d’une zone industrielle et ce par la seule volonté d’un industriel amoureux de l’art et qui souhaite faire partager sa passion sur les lieux même où sa fortune se pérennise, jour après jour.

one of the fifteen museums that this inveterate collector opened in Europe to share and "tour" his personal collection. Until 15th May, the works so typical of Botero will be hung on the walls of this beautiful museum. This collection, from the Würth Collection and from the artist's studio, covers a period from the 1960s until today. We find throughout of course his unique style, revealed in round and generous shapes, now known worldwide. The exhibition covers various themes dear to the artist: bullfighting, circus, Latin America, still life or references to art history. In all his works, the comic or satirical, vies with sadness. At the heart of the exhibition, the Museum Würth did not hesitate to insert a series called Boterosutra, which, as its name obviously implies, is inspired by the Kama Sutra. This section shows a Botero who remains faithful to his naive figurative and voluptuous style, depicting in more than 80 drawings, paintings and sculptures a couple making love in a variety of positions. The body, nude and sensuality having always occupied an important place for Fernando Botero, it is not surprising to see covered here the theme of eroticism. We can only encourage you to go to Erstein to visit this exhibition. First, because it is an actually quite rare opportunity to see exhibited in the same place a consistent selection of the works of an artist who is rarely seen, 8

even on the walls of the largest European museums. Secondly, to discover this surprising museum, literally sitting at the heart of an industrial area and this, only by the will of an art loving and industrial who wants to share his passion on the very site where his wealth develops, day after day.

FERNANDO BOTERO IM INDUSTRIEGEBIET Wer auf Stippvisite in Straßburg ist, wird, wenn er die Ausstellung des kolumbianischen Malers und Bildhauers Fernando Botero besucht, zunächst von der Lage des Museums Würth überrascht sein : es befindet sich in einem Industriegebiet bei Erstein. Nichts deutet auf einen solchen Schatz hin in dieser Kleinstadt, 20 km südlich der europäischen Hauptstadt. Warum Erstein ? Hier hat die FrankreichNiederlassung der Würth-Gruppe ihren Sitz. Es war die Entscheidung des Firmengründers Reinhold Würth, getreu seiner Unternehmenskultur, neben

dem Firmengebäude eines seiner europaweit 15 Museen zu errichten. In seinen Museen sind im Wechsel Werke aus seiner umfangreichen Sammlung zu sehen. Bis 15. Mai zeigt nun das Musée Würth in Erstein die unverwechselbaren Arbeiten Boteros aus der Zeit seit den 1960er Jahren bis heute. Zum einen findet man seinen typischen Stil, die gerundeten Figuren, wie sie überall auf der Welt bekannt sind. Zum anderen zeigt die Ausstellung auch die verschiedenen Themen seines Werkes. Stierkampf, Zirkus, Lateinamerika, Stillleben und Bezüge zur Kunstgeschichte. Aus allen gezeigten Arbeiten sprechen aber auch das Komische, sein Sinn für Satire und Stimmungen wie Streitlust und Traurigkeit. Wichtiger Bestandteil der Schau ist auch eine Serie, die in Anlehnung an das Kâma-Sûtra Boterosutra benannt wurde. Botero zeigt hier in seinem figurativen, naiven und gerundeten Stil in mehr als 80 Zeichnungen, Skulpturen und Gemälden Variationen des Liebesaktes. Der nackte Körper in seiner Sinnlichkeit spielte immer eine zentrale Rolle im Schaffen des Künstlers, weshalb es niemanden verwundern dürfte, wenn an dieser Stelle nun erotische Malerei einen wichtigen Platz einnimmt. In der Tat ist ein Besuch der Ausstellung nur zu empfehlen. Zum einen, weil sie die seltene Gelegenheit bietet, eine respräsentative Auswahl der Werke zu sehen. Zum anderen, weil sie die

Gelegenheit bietet, dieses geographisch eher im Abseits gelegene, aber (nicht zuletzt durch seine Lage in einem Industriegebiet) überraschende Museum zu besuchen. Es verdankt seine Existenz allein der Leidenschaft eines Kunstliebhabers, der diese mit anderen teilen möchte.

Une ressemblance d’Emilie avec la sœur disparue de Tut, une curiosité réciproque, des liens qui se nouent… Et puis la confiance sans laquelle rien n’aurait été possible. Tut a alors raconté les tortures subies lorsqu’il était adolescent à l’époque des khmers rouges. Il a raconté au travers de son corps en mimant les sévices enfouis jusque là dans sa mémoire. L’obstacle de la langue empêchait les mots. « Une fleur coupée, une amputation. Un fruit ensaché, un étouffement. Tut est allé jusqu’à se remettre en scène, créer des reconstitutions pour exprimer ce qu’il avait vécu », raconte Emilie lorsqu’elle évoque ce projet en forme de « portrait sensoriel de la mémoire enfouie ». Des photos de silence qui clament l’indicible quarante ans après la prise de Phnom Penh.

A SILENT CRY It is a meeting that gave rise to these images, that of Emilie Arfeuil, French filmmaker and photographer, and Tut, a Cambodian fisherman. Emilie’s resemblance to the missing sister of Tut, a mutual curiosity, new bonds being created... And of course the trust, without which nothing would have been possible. Tut then recounted the torture he suffered as

a teenager at the time of the Khmer Rouge. He told it through his body, by mimicking the abuse that had been until then buried in his memory. The language barrier prevented words. "A cut flower, an amputation. A fruit in a bag, choking. Tut went as far as setting himself up, creating reconstructions to express the experiences he went through” says Emilie when she talks about this project in the form of a “sensory portrait of buried memories". Pictures of silence that proclaim the unspeakable forty years after the fall of Phnom Penh. Exhibition co-produced by Stimultania and graph-CMI as part of the transmedia project "Scars of Cambodia", cowritten with director Alexandre Liebert.

SCHREI DER STILLE Diese Bilder sind aus einer besonderen Begegnung enstanden, dem Aufeinandertreffen der französischen Fotografin und Filmemacherin Emilie Arfeuil und des kambodschanischen Fischers Tut. Da waren die Ähnlichkeit Emilies mit der verstorbenen Schwester Tuts, eine gegenseitige Neugierde und ein Vertrauen im Spiel, ohne das nichts möglich gewesen wäre. Tut erzählte von der erlittenen Folter, in der Zeit, als er noch Jugendicher war und die Roten Khmer das Land terrorisierten. Sein Körper ist Zeuge der physischen und seelischen Qualen. Die Sprache blieb als Hindernis, so dass sie ohne Worte auskommen mussten. « Eine abgeschnittene Blume, eine Amputation, eine verborgene Frucht, etwas Unterdrücktes. Tut ging so weit, sich zu inszenieren, Szenen zu rekonstituieren, um ausdrücken, was er erlebt hat », berichtet Emilie Arfeuil von der Zusammenarbeit als einem « sinnlichen Porträt der verdrängten Erinnerung ». Bilder der Stille, die das Unaussprechliche ausdrücken, 40 Jahre nachdem die Roten Khmer Phnom Penh eingenommen hatten. Die Ausstellung ist ein Gemeinschaftsprojekt der Galerie Stimultania und GRAPh-C.M.I im Rahmen des crossmedialen Projekts « Scars of Cambodia » und in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Regisseur Alexandre Liebert. ::::::::: Du 15 octobre au 29 novembre, en Alsace et en Lorraine. Les lieux et expositions sont mentionnés sur le site : www.biennaleduverre.eu On a vu naître la Biennale internationale du verre en 2003 sous l’égide de l’European Studio Glass Art Association (ESGAA), on l’a vue s’installer, grandir, investir les lieux les plus insolites et l’on l’attendait l’édition 2015 avec une impatience qui n’a pas été déçue. Avec plus de 2 000 œuvres créées par 68 artistes européens et présentées dans 22 lieux d’Alsace et de Lorraine, le verre se présente cette année encore sous des formes et des variations infinies intégrant tous les média : la lumière, la vidéo, la sculpture, le design, l’architecture. Technique ancestrale, il apporte sa vision singulière dans la création artistique contemporaine. Entre passé et présent, il se pare ainsi d’une « lumière éternelle » qui prend une résonnance particulière en cette année du millénaire de la cathédrale. Signalons à ce propos Ex Tempore, travail de Sylvie Lander installé face au « Pilier des Anges », en écho à l’horloge astronomique.

An ancient technique, it brings its own singular vision to contemporary artistic creation. On this subject, it is worth noting Ex Tempore, a work by Sylvie Lander set against the "Pillar of Angels" and echoing the Astronomical Clock. GLAS IN ALLEN VARIATIONEN Mit der internationalen Glaskunst-Biennale 2003, initiiert von der European Studio Glass Art Association (ESGAA), war ein erster Schritt getan : sie wurde Jahr für Jahr größer und erfasste die unterschiedlichsten Orte der Stadt, so dass die Ausgabe 2015 mit Spannung erwartet wurde. Das Publikum wird nicht enttäuscht. Mit mehr als 2000 Werken von 68 europäischen Künstlern an 22 verschiedenen Orten in Lothringen und im Elsass wird Glas als künstlerisches Material unter Einbeziehung der verschiedensten Medien zu sehen sein : Licht, Video, Design und Architektur. Die Technik der Glasherstellung ist seit Jahrhunderten bekannt. Gleichwohl bringt Glas eine einzigartige Komponente in das zeitgenössische künstlerische Schaffen ein. Wie ein ewiges Licht schaltet es sich zwischen Vergangenheit und Gegenwart. Nichts wäre ein passenderer Klang in diesem Jahr des 1000. Geburtstages des Straßburger Münsters. Insbesondere sei an dieser Stelle verwiesen auf Ex Tempore, eine Arbeit von Sylvie Lander, die vor dem Engelspfeiler im Münster angebracht wurde als ein Echo der Astronomischen Uhr.

l’Opéra du Rhin 19 Pl ace Brogl ie Les 23, 27, 29, 31 octobre et le 3 novembre à 20 h. + 00 33 (0) 825 84 14 84 « Un chef d’œuvre oublié ». C’est en ces termes qu’Olivier Py parle de « Pénélope » de Gabriel Fauré qu’il met en scène à l’Opéra du Rhin. De la musique, il dit qu’elle l’a « ébloui » et du livret qu’il est « souvent profond ». Des mots forts, donc, et une empathie très contemporaine pour une œuvre composée par Fauré entre 1907 et 1913. Celui-ci voulait un sujet mythologique mais c’est d’une abstraction de l’attente qu’il a parlé au travers de l’histoire de la reine d’Ithaque. L’attente du monde de 1910 qui venait de voir couler le Titanic, découvrait la force de l’inconscient, aspirait à « quelque chose » mais ne voyait pas ce que se défaisait sous ses yeux et allait conduire à la guerre de 1914. « Tout comme Pénélope ne reconnaît pas Ulysse lorsqu’il est face à elle », souligne Olivier Py. Tout comme nous tous qui manquons si souvent de clairvoyance… Pour traduire cette mouvance de l’époque – des époques – Pierre-André Weitz a choisi une atmosphère circulaire et aquatique, soucieuse aussi, souligne Olivier Py, de donner la mesure « d’une partition à l’infinie mélodie. » Le ténor Marc Laho interprétera Ulysse dans ce poème lyrique en trois actes. Quant au rôle titre, il sera tenu par la soprano Anna Caterina Antonacci. Elle y donnera la mesure de ses talents vocaux mais aussi l’ampleur de son tempérament de tragédienne. Rendez-vous à Ithaque, sur le plateau de l’Opéra national du Rhin. « Pénélope » y fait l’événement. Olivier Py, Anna Caterina Antonacci et Patrick Davin, directeur musical, seront les invités d’une rencontre à la Librairie Kléber, 1, rue des Francs-Bourgeois le 22 octobre à 18 h 30. Entrée libre.

To translate this movement of the time – of eras - Pierre-André Weitz has chosen a circular aquatic atmosphere, also anxious, said Olivier Py, to give the measure of "a partition with an infinite melody". Tenor Marc Laho is Ulysses in this three-act lyric. The title role will be taken by soprano Anna Caterina Antonacci. She will give the measure not only of her vocal talents but also the extent of her tragic temperament. Rendez-vous in Ithaca, on the set of the Opéra national du Rhin for "Penelope". OLIVIER PY INSZENIERT FAURÉ « Ein vergessenes Meisterwerk », nennt Regisseur Olivier Py Pénélope von Gabriel Fauré, die er für die elsässische Rheinoper inszeniert hat. Die Musik selbst habe ihn verblüfft, das Libretto sei « häufig tiefgehend, lautet sein Urteil. Das sind starke Worte und zeitgemäße Emotionen für ein Werk, das Fauré zwichen 1907 und 1913 komponiert hat. Bewusst hatte er nach einem mythologischen Stoff gegriffen. Die Geschichte, die er schließlich am Beispiel der Königin von Ithaka erzählt, ist die des Wartens und der Erwartungen. Die Welt von 1910, die den Untergang der Titanic erlebt hatte, endeckte die Kraft des Unterbewussten und die Sehnsucht nach etwas Unbekanntem, sah aber nicht, was sich vor ihren Augen zusammenbraute und 1914 in den Ersten Weltkrieg münden sollte. « Genauso wie Penelope Odysseus nicht wiedererkennt, als er wieder vor ihr steht », sagt Olivier Py, « genauso fehlt es uns Menschen oft an Klarsicht. » Um die Stimmung der Epoche kongenial zu übersetzen, hat PierreAndré Weitz eine kreisende und an das Milieu unter Wasser erinnende Atmosphäre gewählt, im Sinne einer unendlichen Melodie. Der Tenor Marc Laho wird in dem lyrischen Gedicht in drei Akten die Rolle des Odysseus singen. In der Titelrolle ist die Sopranistin Anna Caterina Antonacci zu hören. Sie wird nicht nur eine Kostprobe ihres stimmlichen Talents, sondern auch ihrer Fähigkeiten als Tragödin geben. Der Schauplatz Ithaka gehört mit « Penelope » zu den Ereignissen dieser Saison an der Rheinoper.

LA LAITERIE 1 3 r U E H o h wa l d Jay Jay Johanson + Thomas Joseph Jeudi 29 octobre 2015, 20h00 L'affiche devrait a priori être celle du Suédois Jay Jay Johanson et de sa pop-rock aux accents jazzy qui a ce petit supplément d'âme que seuls des groupes comme The Divine Comedy parviennent généralement à embarquer dans leur univers. Jay Jay, des mélodies subtiles, ennivrantes, une petite drogue musicale teintée d' « Opium » à la belle sensualité, que l'on s'imaginerait écouter dans un de ces lofts donnant sur l'East River, un début d'hiver, ou sur l'un des Rooftops gazonnés de la Spinnerei de Leipzig. Mais voilà, quitte à en venir aux Rooftops, il y a celui de Thomas Joseph, petite pépite de l'écurie strasbourgeoise Hrzfld. Thomas Joseph : une sensibilité pure, douce et mélancolique, métaphorée en l'un de ces blancs nuages de lait qui adoucissent l'acidité crasse d'une époque malmenée. Thomas Joseph : un artiste rare, dont on peine à savoir qui de lui ou de Jay Jay est la première partie de l'autre. Deux univers qui, si Thomas a depuis choisi de recentrer sa pop vers l'électro lo-fi, se complètent finalement à merveille. Différents mais tous deux étincelants. L'art, la poésie, disait Paul Celan est une rencontre. Ces chemins, ces nuages de lait instagrammés, la Laiterie a fait le délicieux choix de les mêler, le temps d'une soirée qu'avant même qu'elle n'ait débuté nous fait déjà délicieusement voyager.

WHO OF JAY JAY OR THOMAS... ? The headline should a priori be that of the Swede Jay Jay Johanson and his jazzy pop-rock, who have that little extra something that only bands like The Divine Comedy generally manage to embark on their world. Jay Jay, subtle, intoxicating melodies, a little musical drug tinged with "Opium" with beautiful sensuality that one would imagine listening on one of these lofts overlooking the East River, an early winter, or on one of the grassy Rooftops of the Spinnerei in Leipzig. But here we go, even talking about the Rooftops, there is that of Thomas Joseph, little nugget of the stable Hrzfld Strasbourg. Thomas Joseph, a pure, gentle and melancholic sensitivity akin to one of those white milk clouds that soften the acidity of a battered era. Thomas Joseph, a rare artist, whose difficulty it is to know who of him and Jay

Jay is the first part of the other. Two worlds that, even if Thomas has long since chosen to refocus his pop towards lo-fi electro, in effect complement each other perfectly. Different but both sparkling. Art, poetry, said Paul Celan, is an encounter. These roads, these instagrammed milk clouds, the Laiterie made the delicious choice of mixing them together, the time of an evenin that, before it has even begun, already makes us travel exquisitely.

WER IST DER BESTE : JAY JAY ODER THOMAS? Als Hauptact des Konzerts müsste eigentlich der Schwede Jay Jay Johanson angekündigt werden, Johanson mit seinem jazzig inpirierten Pop-Rock und dieser Seele, die nur wenige transportieren. Jay Jay hat diese subtilen, eindringlichen Melodien, die wie eine musikalisch-sinnliche, Opium getränkte Droge daherkommen. Als säße man in einem Loft am East River zu Beginn des Winters oder einem der mit Rasen bedeckten Rooftops der Spinnerei in Leipzig. Aber voilà, ganz ohne Rooftops, kommt Thomas Joseph vom kleinen Straßburger Label Hrzfld an mit seiner reinen Sensibilität, sanft und melancholisch, wie eine dieser weißen Milchwolken, die unserer Epoche alles Ätzende nehmen. Thomas Joseph - ein Ausnahmemusiker, der es einem schwer macht zu sagen, Jay Jay sei der Hauptact dieses Abends. Zwei Musikwelten, die auf den ersten Blick grundverschieden sind, weil Joseph seinen Pop stärker in Richtung Electro lo-fi orientiert hat. Schlussendlich ergänzen sich beide aufs Beste. Verschieden und dabei inspirierend. Die Poesie, sagte Paul Celan, ist eine Begegnung. Die Laiterie hat eine hervorragende Wahl getroffen, indem sie die beiden Wege wie Milchwolken und flimmernde Bilder zusammengeführt hat. Kaum hat der Abend begonnen, starten wir schon auf unsere wunderbare Reise.

« La vie fait des boucles », note Julien Chiappone-Lucchesi, rencontré dans son bureau de tout nouveau directeur des Relations européennes et internationales de la ville de Strasbourg. Il connaît effectivement les lieux de longue date. « J’étais venu à Strasbourg en 1998 pour y suivre une année de langues étrangères à l’université, raconte-t-il, et j’avais aussi réussi le concours du Conservatoire, à l’époque installé ici, rue Brûlée. J’ai retrouvé les murs de la salle où je m’initiais au violon baroque ». D’origine italienne, Julien ChiapponeLucchesi a passé son enfance entre Aix-en-Provence et 26

Marseille, Strasbourg fut une étape l’année de ses 17 ans avant de se lancer dans un cursus très diversifié : SciencesPo, Master de Relations et négociations internationales à Paris, d’administration publique à l’ENS,… La liste est longue mais il ne s’agissait par pour lui de multiplier les diplômes. « Je voulais m’ouvrir des portes, gagner en liberté. » Passé d’abord par le ministère de la défense, il s’engage rapidement dans l’international par « goût de l’autre et de l’ailleurs » et aussi par passion pour les langues : l’italien, l’anglais, le grec moderne, le serbo-croate… et surtout l’allemand, « un des fils rouges » de sa vie. Il prend ainsi, en 2009, la tête de l’Institut français et de l’école française

de Thessalonique. « Une chance extraordinaire, confie cet amoureux de la culture grecque, et une vraie responsabilité car la France compte beaucoup en Grèce du Nord. » En 2011, Julien Chiappone-Lucchesi partira pour Ramallah, afin d’y diriger l’Institut culturel franco-allemand. « Un projet commun, culturel et éducatif, unique au monde, porté par l’Institut français et le Goethe-Institut, et également la maison de la France pour les Palestiniens de Cisjordanie, qui n’ont pas l’autorisation de se rendre au consulat général de France à Jérusalem en raison de la situation. » La ville est très ouverte dit-il, et dégage une douceur de vivre « qui étonne le voyageur qui s’y rend pour la première fois. » Strasbourg, où il travaille aujourd’hui, correspond à « un souhait ». « Deuxième ville diplomatique de l’Hexagone, capitale européenne dont l’ambition internationale est affichée et justifiée, métropole d’une aire culturelle transfrontalière ancienne et passionnante, elle est idéale pour se « ressourcer » quant on a représenté la France à l’étranger, souligne-t-il. De plus, elle a une responsabilité particulière car elle est la gardienne des valeurs qui fondent l’Europe. Et si on ne prend pas soin de nos racines, il sera difficile de donner du sens à notre avenir commun. » SES RESTAURANTS PRÉFÉRÉS ? Amateur de bons vins, il est heureux de découvrir in situ ceux du riche terroir alsacien dans les restaurants où il se rend. Pas encore d’adresse préférée mais deux découvertes à venir : « Le 1741 », 22 Quai des Bateliers et le restaurant des « Haras », 23 , rue des Glacières. SON CAFÉ PRÉFÉRÉ ? Strasbourg, qui lui plaît pour la bienveillance de ses habitants et sa « douceur de vivre, parfois presque méditerranéenne », est riche de « petits cafés où se retrouvent les étudiants ». Il aime les entendre discuter, comme aux Savons d’Hélène, 6 rue Sainte-Hélène : « Le bruit c’est la vie ». SES RENDEZ-VOUS INCONTOURNABLES ? Arrivé en septembre « en pleines Bibliothèques idéales », il s’émerveille de ce que Strasbourg ait « la culture en étendard ». « Les choix seront cornéliens ! » Une certitude : il ne manquera ni le « Forum mondial de la démocratie » qui se tiendra en novembre au Conseil de l’Europe et dans toute la ville, ni les manifestations organisées par « Le Lieu d’Europe », 8, rue Boecklin.

Indeed he knows the long-standing places. "I came to Strasbourg in 1998 in order to attend a year of foreign languages at the university, he says, and I had also passed the competition of the Conservatory at the time located here, rue Brûlée. I found again the walls of the room where I practiced the Baroque violin". Italian-born Julien Chiappone-Lucchesi spent his childhood in Aix-en-Provence and Marseille, Strasbourg was a stop-over at 17, before embarking on a very diverse curriculum: Sciences-Po, Master of Relations and international negotiations in Paris, public administration at ENS... The list is long but it was not his intention to multiply degrees. "I wanted to open doors, have freedom". Starting out at the defence ministry, he quickly engages in the international because of his "liking for the other and elsewhere" and also his passion for languages: Italian, English, Modern Greek, Serbo-Croatian... and especially German, "one of the drivers" in his life. He thus becomes, in 2009, the head of the French Institute and the French School of Thessaloniki. "An extraordinary opportunity, says this lover of Greek culture and a real responsibility because France matters a lot in northern Greece". In 2011, Julien ChiapponeLucchesi leaves for Ramallah, in order to direct the Franco-German Cultural Institute. "A joint project, cultural and educational, unique in the world, supported by the French Institute and the Goethe-Institut, and also the home of France for West Bank Palestinians, who do not have permission to go to the General Consulate of France in Jerusalem because of the situation". A wine enthusiast, he is happy to discover in situ those from the rich Alsatian terroir in the restaurants where he goes. No preferred address yet but two discoveries to come: "Le 1741", 22 Quai des Bateliers, and the “Haras” restaurant, 23, rue des Glacières. HIS FAVOURITE CAFE ? Strasbourg, which he likes because of its care for its people and its "good life, sometimes almost Mediterranean style", is rich with "small cafes where students like to meet up". He likes to hear them talk, as in Savons d’Hélène, 6, rue SainteHélène: "Noise is life" HIS MUST-SEE EVENTS? Arrived in September “at the height of the Bibliothèques idéales", he marvels that Strasbourg has "culture for banner" "The choices will be Cornelian!" One thing is certain: he will miss neither the "World Forum of Democracy" to be held in November at the Council of Europe and throughout the city, nor the demonstrations organized by « Le Lieu d’Europe », 8, rue Boecklin.

« STRASSBURG IST FÜR EUROPA DER BESTE ORT, UM SEINE WURZELN ZU PFLEGEN» « Das Leben bewegt sich in Schleifen », hält Julien Chiappone-Lucchesi fest, als wir ihn in seinem Büro treffen, kaum dass er seinen Dienst als Leiter der Abteilung für europäische und internationale Beziehungen der Stadt Straßburg angetreten hat. Er kennt sich hier seit Langem aus. «Ich bin 1998 nach Straßburg gekommen, um ein Jahr an der Universität Sprachen zu studieren», erzählt er. « Gleichzeitig hatte ich die Aufnahmeprüfung am Konservatorium bestanden, das sich damals in der Rue Brûlée befand. Ich bin in die Räume zurückgekehrt, in denen ich früher auf der Barockvioline gebübt habe. » Julien Chiappone-Lucchesi hat italienische Vorfahren und verbrachte seine Kindheit in Aix-en-Provence und Marseille. Nach Straßburg kam er im Alter von 17 Jahren, bevor er sich auf ein völlig anderes Studium stürzte : Politische Wissenschaften und einen Master in Internationalen Beziehungen in Paris und danach öffentliche Verwaltung an der ENS. Die Liste seiner Qualifikationen ist lang, aber ihm ging es nicht darum, akademische Abschlüsse anzuhäufen. «Ich wollte mir Türen öffnen und mehr Möglichkeiten haben.» Nach einer ersten Stelle im Verteidigungsministerium,

bekommt er schnell Geschmack an der internationalen Politik. Er findet Gefallen an allem Neuen und an anderen Ländern, wobei auch seine Leidenschaft für Sprachen eine Rolle spielt : Italienisch, Englisch, Neugriechisch und Serbo-Kroatisch und vor allem Deutsch bilden einen roten Faden in seinem Leben. So übernimmt er 2009 die Leitung des Institut Français und der französischen Schule in Thessaloniki. « Das war eine außerordentliche Chance », verrät Chiappone-Lucchesi, der ein Liebhaber der griechischen Kultur ist. « Meine Arbeit war auch eine Verantwortung, denn Frankreich wird in Nordgriechenland hochgeschätzt.» 2011 ging Julien Chiappone-Lucchesi nach Ramallah, wo er die Leitung des deutsch-französischen Kulturinstitutes inne hatte. « Es war ein weltweit einzigartiges kulturelles und pädagogisches Projekt, das von den Instituts Français und den Goethe-Instituten getragen wurde. » Er verantwortete auch das Maison de la France für Palästina und das Westjordanland, deren Bewohner nicht die Erlaubnis haben, das französische Generalkonsulat in Jerusalem aufzusuchen.» Ramallah ist offen und verströmt eine Lebensquaität, die Reisende, die zum ersten Mal dorthinkommen, einfach nur staunen lässt. » In Straßburg zu arbeiten war ein persönlicher Wunsch. « Straßburg ist die zweitwichtigste Stadt Frankreichs in Sachen Diplomatie, eine europäische Hauptstadt, zudem international ambitioniert und eine grenznahe Metropole mit Tradition und Leidenschaft », betont er. Straßburg ist für ihn als Stadt ideal, um neue Energie zu schöpfen, wenn man wie er Frankreich im Ausland vertreten hat. Seine besondere Verantwortung bestehe darin, die Werte zu verteidigen, auf die Europa gegründet sei. « Wenn wir nicht unsere Wurzeln pflegen », sagt er, « wird es schwierig, unserer gemeinsamen Zukunft Sinn zu geben. » SEIN LIEBLINGSCAFÉ? « Une pinte de Guiness au Dubliner » (rue du Vieux-Marché-aux-Poissons) SEIN LIEBLINGSRESTAURANT? Ce mercredi 28 octobre, de 18 h à 20 h, le restaurant Louise Weiss va se parer de pampres le temps d’une Fête des vendanges à laquelle vous convient plusieurs associations européennes de Strasbourg. Cheville ouvrière de cette manifestation la « Fondation pour Strasbourg » veut ainsi marquer cette rentrée par un moment convivial qui fait la part belle à l’Alsace épicurienne. « S’y sont associés les Vignerons de la Couronne d’or, précise JeanLouis de Valmigère, président de la Fondation et figure strasbourgeoise bien connue qui fut longtemps le patron du célèbre restaurant « Chez Yvonne ». Féru d’histoire alsacienne et au fait de tout ce qui touche à l’art de vivre, il précise que cette fameuse « Couronne d’or » s’étend autour de Strasbourg et correspond au vignoble alsacien historique né dans le BasRhin avant de coloniser la région de Colmar. Le vin était chargé à la Douane, raconte-t-il, ce bâtiment que l’on appelle aujourd’hui « L’Ancienne Douane » et qui est situé à deux pas de la cathédrale. » Il évoque aussi un ancien bar à matelots, « La Tête noire », aujourd’hui disparu et ce commerce du vin – européen avant l’heure – qui se pratiquait tout au long du Rhin. On apprend ainsi que les Hollandais troquaient le vin contre… des harengs ce qui explique la proximité de la Rue-du-Vieux-Marchéaux-vins avec celle du Vieux-Marché-aux- poissons dans le cœur historique de Strasbourg mais aussi le fait que l’on trouve aujourd’hui encore des harengs à la carte des winstubs locales. Ce mercredi, il n’aura pas de hareng au menu mais les fromages de chez Lorho – 3, rue des Orfèvres - et les charcuteries de Christine Spiesser, deux excellentes adresses. Placée sous le patronnage de l’eurodéputée strasbourgeoise Anne Sander, cette « Fête des Vendanges » est organisée par les associations « Ensemble pour l’Europe de Strasbourg », « Démocratie européenne », « Association européenne des jeunes entrepreneurs », « Strasbourg pour l’Europe », « Comité pour l’Europe de et à Strasbourg » et « Fondation pour Strasbourg ». 34

Behind this event, the "Foundation for Strasbourg" wants to mark this autumn by a friendly moment that gives pride to epicurean Alsace. Unter ihnen die « Fondation pour Strasbourg », die mit diesem geselligen Stelldichein der genießerischen Seite des Elsass’ alle Ehre macht. « Winzer aus dem Straßburger Umland haben sich uns für diesen Anlass angeschlossen», erläutert der Präsident des Vereins, Jean-Louis de Valmigère, der als langjähriger Inhaber der legendären Weinstube « Chez Yvonne » zu den festen Größen der

Straßburger Gastronomie zählt. Er ist ein Kenner der elsässischen Geschichte genauso wie der hiesigen Lebensart und betont, dass die Winzer aus dem Umland der Stadt, der « Couronne d’or », der goldenen Krone, historisch noch vor der Geschichte des Weinbaus in Colmar anzusiedeln seien. Umschlagplatz für den Wein sei einst das Zollgebäude gewesen, das man heute als « Ancienne Douane » kennt, nur wenige Schritte von der Kathedrale entfernt. Er erwähnt auch eine Bar, in der die Matrosen einkehrten, « La Tête noire », der schwarze Kopf, die die Zeit nicht überdauert hat, und er erzählt vom Weinhandel, der mit seiner europäischen Vernetzung entlang des Rheins damit seiner Zeit voraus gewesen sei. Die Holländer hätten Wein gegen Heringe getauscht, weshalb im alten Straßburg die Rue-du-Vieux-Marché-aux-vins (Am alten Weinmarkt) unweit der Rue du Vieux-Marché-aux-poissons (Am Fischmarkt) gelegen sei. Dieser Zusammenhang ist auch der Grund dafür, warum Heringe bis heute in jeder Weinstube auf die Speisekarte gehören. An diesem Mittwoch wird es allerdings keinen Hering, sondern Käse von « Chez Lorho » – 3, rue des Orfèvres – geben sowie Charcuterie von Christine Spiesser – beide gelten als exzellente Adressen.
