It was a wonderful long 4th of July holiday weekend and the weather certainly kept us on our toes, as mother naturejustcouldnotmakeuphermindwhetheritwasgoingtorainorbesunny,andsoitdidboth.Sometimesat the same time In any case we were able to pull off Tuesday, the fourth with lots of fun activities for all The cardboardboatracewasatremendoussuccess,andwecongratulateourwinners.Asaspecialbonus,thelastrace wasastaffcompetitionwheretherestaurantstaff,thepoolstaff,andthepavilionstaffmadetheirownboatsto race.Thisyearthepoolstaffcameoutvictorious.Manymembersweretheretocheerthecaptainsonandagreat timewashadbyall.Aspecialthankyoutoallwhoparticipatedandcametowatchandjoininonthefun.

We closed out the weekend with a scrumptious buffet and although we started with over 250 reservations, we servedover350thatevening.Theculinaryteamandservicestaffworkedhardtoensureagreatexperiencewas hadbyall,andouramateurfireworksdisplayclosedoutthenightandthelongholidayweekend.

Thankfully,wearefullystaffedthisyearandareextremelypleasedwithourinterimstafffromabroadandfrom down south, as they joined our food and beverage team to provide service in the restaurant. pavilion and bars. Sarah Scott has developed the team and continues to work with them. The terrace remains to be a busy and thrivingfoodandbeverageoutletforthemembership.Itisnowinitssecondyearaftertherenovation,andusage continuestoclimb ThankstoChefQuintandhisteamforthequalityfoodofferingsweareenjoyingaswell

ThefeedbackfromthePavilionfoodandbeverageofferingandserviceisthatithasgreatlyimprovedandavery niceplacetoenjoysomefoodandbeverageinamorecasualenvironment.MattAssummahasprovidedleadership at the Pavilion and we have expanded food service to the Dolphin, most Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings (unlessthereisaClubevent)

Cheyenne is a May 2023 graduate of East Carolina University with a Bachelor or Science in Hospitality Management and a concentration in conventions and special events. Cheyenne is splitting her time between OBC and the Metropolitan Chapter of the Club Management Association this summer.

Racquets

OBC Tennis has been quite busy this summer with Social Events, Tournaments, Lessons, and Clinics! Our Ladies Pro-Am Tournament successfully kicked off our tennis events this summer with a result of 24 participants. The Ladies paired up with one of our own or visiting Pros to challenge their skill set and test their limits as they battled other teams. They enjoyed great food, received party favors and won prizes all while creating unforgettable memories on the court. This excitement will continue on July 14th with our Member/Guest Tournament. Get ready for an exhilarating day of friendly competition, camaraderie, and thrilling tennis matches with a guest of your choice. Another great upcoming event is the draw release for our Club Championship Tournament. This tournament is the perfect event to showcase your skills, create lasting memories, and experience friendly competition. Thank you to all of our wonderful members for making these events so fun and unforgettable! Stay tuned for more events to follow!

Summer Camp

OBC day camp is off to another terrific start in 2023. The camp has averaged 127 campers through the first seven days and despite some thunder and less than ideal air quality, the campers and counselors are having a blast. Our Adventure Group boasts 44 campers and will be traveling to such places as Playland, Splashdown, A NY Mets game, The Puzzle Parlor, and many others. Each day campers enjoy group swim and tennis lessons, arts & crafts, sports & games, and indoor rec. In addition, each day we have a different special guest to entertain the campers with hip hop, science, yoga, storytelling, drawing or animals. Our first theme day was school spirit day and that will be followed by others such as crazy hat day, silly sock day, and mustache Monday. Pete (trips/sports), Nicole (trips/sports), Lea (A&C), and Lucy (swim) continue to be the best camp team around. I could go on and on about the camp and all the fun we are having, but if you really want to get a good look at what happens here MondayFriday from 9-3, you should check out the camp instagram.

Sailing

The OBC Junior Sailing Program has got off to a great start! Despite rocky weather during our first week, our sailors have been able to get out on the water every day. Some highlights of our first week include: 100% of our sailors passing their swim and capsize tests; Brand new sailors getting out on the water and literally "learning the ropes"; Experienced sailors knocking the rust off and preparing for upcoming regattas; And finally, plenty of swim breaks to avoid the heat! We are looking forward to a fun summer and hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July Weekend!

We are excited for another OBC summer with the Swim/Dive team with our returning staff, John, Natalie Lucy and me We have a roster of 100 children. This year we continue to work hard in Division 3. We have three home meets and two away dual meets. We competed at our first season's invitational meet at Rye Golf Club. Our team finished in 3rd place against 7 other teams! Our first meet will be held on Thursday, July 6. We can't wait to see how this team does throughout the summer. Come out and support the OBC team!
