Welcome
Within the covers of this impact report you will find the story of an organization with humble beginnings, great expectations and some of the most heart-warming stories. For almost 170 years, Oregon Masonic charities have focused on serving local youth and Masonic families in our community through various programs and services, supporting their educational dreams or helping them through turbulent times. In 1854, the first funds of $150 were set aside by our earliest members, who came together to respond to the needs of wives, widows and children of Freemasons. Beginning with our first formal program, Educational Assistance, today Oregon Masonic charities, in partnership with Oregon Lodges and Chapters, have expanded to serve scores of Masonic Family members and local children through scholarships, advocacy, case management, resource identification and financial assistance. Our accomplishments and success stories are detailed within these pages. I know you will join me in thanking all those who kept us moving forward during 2019, as I thank each one of you. When we truly accept the principles and values of Freemasonry as our moral compass and commit to living our fraternal values each day, there is no telling what we will achieve.

MasonicAid supports the quality of life of worthy and distressed members of the Oregon Masonic Family. Since 2009, this effort has been funded through the earnings of the Home Endowment Fund - a true memberhelping-member effort. Two sub-programs fulfill the needs of Oregon Master Masons, their wife or widow, and female members of the Order of the Eastern Star:

YOU BROUGHT LOVE AND QUALITY CARE TO MASONIC FAMILY MEMBERS IN NEED Spending time connecting with friends at Lodge or through his HAM radio - that's how Brother Rick wanted to spend his time. Unfortunately, health-related issues caused frequent trips to the hospital and a pile of bills, demanding the attention of
he and his wife, Mary. They reached out to MasonicAid to see if help might be available. A case manager from OutReach Services met with them in their home to uncover some ways to help the couple through these difficulties. Collaboration led to better utilization of their social security benefits and, following an application, additional financial assistance was provided to cover those nagging medical bills.
The support of MasonicAid programs has helped ease the burden caused by unforeseen health and medical events for many Masonic Family members. What's the ultimate and ever-present benefit of these services? Assurance and comfort in knowing you and your family are not alone, especially in hard times, as Rick and Mary can attest to: "You guys are so wonderful. Thank you for all you have done for us!"

CREATING A PARTNERSHIP
of Lodges received matching-funds to support local communities. To amplify the community-focused projects Oregon Lodges are involved in, Creating A Partnership (CAP) aims to make a bigger impact on the recipients and community. The Grand Lodge offers 50 percent reimbursement, repaying fifty cents for every dollar a Lodge extends in support.

There are two categories of beneficiaries that qualify Lodges for fund reimbursement:
INDIVIDUALS OR FAMILIES
Providing clothing, school supplies, coats, shoes, dental work, eyeglasses, etc. Lodge scholarships are also an eligible form of support.
COMMUNITY PROJECTS
Supporting sack lunch, backpack, health or reading programs, and other projects operated by charitable or other non-profit organizations. Public entities such as a school, firehouse or police department also qualify.

BUILD UP COMMUNITIES
YOU'VE SHOWN SUPPORT AND CARE TO LOCAL CHILDREN AND FAMILIES A teddy bear has the power to be more than a stuffed animal - for some children it is the only form of comfort as they move from one shelter, foster home or motel to another. Hermiston Lodge No. 138 recognized this and developed a partnership
with the local Child Welfare Division of the Department of Human Services. Together, they work to put a teddy bear in the arms of children in need who pass through DHS doors. Each teddy wears a t-shirt with the square and compasses, Lodge name and slogan "Masons Care" clearly presented. With the support of local Freemasons, the DHS staff can rest easy knowing it has a caring partner, similarly dedicated to show-
ing kindness and love to local children and their families, especially when facing hardship. For over twenty years, Oregon Freemasons have supported MMSAP to equip educators to work as a team to support students they believe are "at risk," facing depression, chemical dependency, abuse, etc. Early and effective intervention with students demonstrating patterns of negative behavior gives the student the greatest chance of success in school. Offered as a 3-day session twice a year and by request for district trainings, MMSAP welcomes staff working with grades K-12, including administrators, teachers, school nurses, guidance counselors, etc. The training focuses on identification, assessment, parent partnerships and creating a plan to improve areas of struggle (what is not working) and fully utilize existing assets and skills of the student (what is working).

YOU ENABLED TEACHERS TO EMPOWER AND LEAD STUDENTS TOWARD SUCCESS "We really need this! Do you think that's a possibility? Can we make it happen?" Could we bring the full benefits of the Masonic Model Student Assistance Program to a small southern Oregon school district? We take pride in our abil-
ity to do just that - showing up for educators where and when necessary to make them, their school environment and students as successful as possible. The event was organized, trainers and supplies gathered, while the school coordinated administrators, teachers, counselors and nurses of four neighboring schools for a one-day intensive training specifically engineered for this district. Now, scores of chil-
dren and their families will benefit from the collaborative effort and strategic tools utilized by the entire staff. Supporting schools in the specific ways that are needed is a special goal at the core of MMSAP. With the support of Oregon Freemasons, local youth can flourish both in school and the future.

went to support the success of K-12 students and their families. As our longest-standing program, Educational Assistance has benefitted the children and grandchildren of Oregon Master Masons since 1950. Specifically, financial assistance is provided to help families struggling to make ends meet while children are in public schools (K-12) and post high school, through age 22. Student success is of utmost importance, prompting this offering to help pay for school supplies, tuition, and even utilities and rent if the child lives at home. Need-based support is coordinated through the Grand Lodge office with help from the associated District Deputy and Lodge. Through this collaboration, 39 families - representing 67 students - were helped during the 2019-2020 school year. Our members should take pride in the impact they have made and will continue to leave on the lives of these students and Masonic families.

EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE When moving the family became necessary, the costs piled up quickly, forcing a single mother to seek housing assistance and food stamps. School supplies and health care for her children were bills she just couldn't afford, so Educational Assistance stepped in:
"Your generosity has made many things possible for myself and my children. Just recently my son started his Sophomore year of high school and many costs have already come up... his ID card itself cost forty-five dollars and his yearbook up to fifty-five dollars. My son has also received the chance to visit our local Orthodontist office and was able to have braces put on. For the first time, he has been smiling with confidence. I haven't seen him smile like this in years. Thank you for allowing us this opportunity and constant support."
