Walking through our Porsche workshop is a unique automotive experience. Our factory trained technicians are all working on cars, but unlike most workshops in the world, our team is working on engines that are in the rear, middle or front of the vehicle. This unique situation is now even more diversified, with the addition of the Taycan range – with electric motors in either the rear, or both the front and rear of the cars. I now can watch with interest as the BEV (battery electric vehicle) protocols are followed. This diversity reflects Porsche’s pursuit of finding the best possible engineering and configuration layout for maximum performance and efficiency. Our entire team does the same for each customer, finding the best Porsche vehicle and ownership journey that suits your needs.

Agile and exclusive – the new Macan T 7

T
is for touring … but for Porsche, it also stands for dynamic driving with precise tuning, exclusive equipment, and efficient yet athletic engines. Porsche’s new Macan T sits securely between the Macan and the Macan S. Equipped with a sporty two-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-boosted engine, the Macan T combines great agility, low weight and a compact design offering drivers a complete package with the ideal balance of weight and performance.
Tuned to a T Compared with the 2.9-litre biturbo V6 engine in the Macan S and GTS models, the Macan T’s powertrain weighs 58.8 kg less on the front axle. This gives the vehicle excellent performance from the get-go, combined with optimum cornering ability. On the subject of performance, this new Macan has a power output of 195kW with 400Nm of torque, characteristics that deliver a nimble driving experience. As is generally the case with Porsche’s compact SUVs, the engine is coupled to a fastswitching seven-speed dual clutch transmission (PDK) and the Porsche Traction Management (PTM) all-wheel drive system. With its broad torque spread, the Macan T accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in just 6.2 seconds and reaches a top speed of 232km/h with the standard Sport Chrono Package, equating to a fast take-off as well as consistent acceleration.
The Sport Chrono Package includes the mode switch and Sport Response button on the steering wheel. Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) is standard, handling any road situation with aplomb with the body lowered by 15mm. More rigid anti-roll bars on the front axle are meticulously tuned to the car’s chassis, providing enhanced suspension for the vehicle with this powertrain resulting in pin-sharp steering and agile handling. The Porsche Traction Management (PTM) has been adapted to the Macan T’s driving demands, and is specially designed with a rear-wheel bias. A new optional feature for Macan four-cylinder models is the addition of adaptive air suspension with PASM and a further lowering of the body by 10mm. Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) can also be added, fostering even sharper driving dynamics with the system carefully adapted to the T model’s characteristics.

Designed to a T Visually differentiating the T from the other models in the Macan range are design elements in Agate Grey Metallic on the front, side and rear that highlight features of the car’s design. This exclusive contrast colour can be seen on the painted front trim, exterior mirrors, side blades, roof spoiler and rear logos. Sports tailpipes and side window trims in high-gloss black are standard, while the side blades feature the ‘Macan T’ logo in black. Twenty-inch Macan S wheels, exclusively in dark titanium, are standard. In addition to the 13 solid, metallic or special exterior colours customers can choose from, they can also access a library of Porsche colours through Paint to Sample, enabling even greater customisation of their Macan. Inside, standard eight-way electrically adjustable heated sports seats feature exclusive upholstery based on the black leather package, while the front headrests each feature an embossed Porsche crest. The centres of the front and outer rear seats feature a Sport-Tex stripe pattern as part of the Macan T interior package, with the contrasting colour from the exterior continuing inside the vehicle in the form of decorative silver stitching on the seats, headrests and steering wheel. Standard equipment includes a multifunction GT heated sports steering wheel and the Sport Chrono package. The door entry guards come in black aluminium as standard and feature a Macan T logo. Optional features include the multifunction GT sports steering wheel in Race-Tex with carbon trims and an ioniser. The Macan T also benefits from all the new elements introduced to the model generation in 2021, such as the new centre console with its sophisticated glass-look, touch-sensitive surface, as well as the fully networked Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system with a 10.9-inch touch screen and online navigation as standard.

hree contemporary artists and one contemporary car have united to produce a one-of-a-kind series of multimedia photographs in an NFT auction to raise money for the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art. An NFT is a digital asset that marks ownership of products that reside online, such as art or music. NFTs are purchased to assign ownership of digital creations to the buyer, giving them unique and exclusive ownership of the artwork which can be used as a physical or digital print. To celebrate its first fully electric and most digitally advanced sportscar, Porsche has commissioned a bespoke Australian artwork livery by contemporary artist Nigel Sense. Taycan was the vehicle of choice, as it represents the beginning of a new era in car design. The choice is appropriate as a canvas featuring a fantastical transition space filled with traveller’s tales, a vastness punctuated by movement that accesses the masks of common humanity.
The drama and movement is captured in three distinct photographs, highlighting contrast while finding common ground with the Taycan in the environmentally conscious architecture. Sense’s artwork was transformed into the vehicle livery on a new Porsche Taycan, before being photographed to create three unique digital artworks in the form of multimedia photographs. Local neo-expressionist and social expressionist artist Nigel Sense’s pieces are popular among Porsche owners. ‘My work is maps and painted lines that lead to the unknown, with symbols and imagery that I’ve corrected on the way,’ says Nigel. ‘It’s the emotional feeling of movement going from one place to another, that excitement to see what’s over the horizon. The beauty of living a life well-lived.’ Forming part of the celebrations of 70 Years of Porsche in Australia, this collaboration represents the first digital artwork project based on the blockchain technology Ethereum for Porsche in Australia.
12
An integral part of transforming Sense’s artwork for the Taycan into the realm of NFTs is attributed to photographer Derek Swalwell, whose name is synonymous with the photographic representation of the architectural landscape in Australia and beyond. The location chosen for the three multimedia photographs highlights the commonality with the Taycan in the environmentally conscious architecture. As an extension of the artwork, the NFTs will be accompanied by sounds that connect to the Taycan’s colours and vibrancy. A piece of original music was composed by Gene Shill, who Porsche Cars Australia had already partnered with successfully for the earlier launch of the Taycan. Shill, who is synonymous with creating music from car engine sounds, crafted all harmonic and rhythmic textures of the music from a single Taycan power unit sound.

Caring with a conscience – Julia Hosie

C
linical Psychologist Dr Julia Hosie has built an impressive career focusing on improving people’s everyday lives. She talks about what motivates her to help others, the challenges, and rewards of her position … and of course, her love of Porsches.
Her clients are linked by the common theme of uncertainty. ‘During the pandemic, many of my patients had been dealing with uncertainty due to Covid, particularly as manifested in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD),’ Julia confirms.
‘I started off my career in clinical and forensic work, initially spending significant time working in the prison system while undertaking my Doctorate,’ Julia explains. ‘I’ve since had the privilege of working with a diverse range of clients, and I genuinely feel fortunate that so many have chosen to share their stories with me.’
‘In lockdown, some people found it extremely difficult not being able to access their usual activities and support,’ she says. ‘With OCD, the first thing to learn is to become comfortable with uncertainty, which is mainly done through exposure response prevention therapy.
Julia divides her time between two practices. ‘I work in St Kilda, primarily with LBGTIQ+ clients,’ she says. ‘At my other practice on the Mornington Peninsula, I largely deal with elderly clients.’
15
‘This technique involves provoking those uncertain feelings, then learning to sit with them,’ she expands. ‘You have to learn that your emotions will rise and wash over you like a wave. The greater frequency to these g exposures, the more you become comfortable with the feeling.’
Several common misunderstandings make treating patients with OCD more challenging. ‘OCD is a term that gets thrown around imprecisely, with many people thinking it involves merely washing your hands excessively or wanting everything in perfect order.’ The reality, though, is more serious. ‘OCD is really debilitating,’ says Julia. ‘Those obsessions and compulsions can take up over eight hours of someone’s day, rendering them unable to be fully present and focused on living a meaningful life.’ During the pandemic, Julia struck a balance. ‘I was primarily working from St Kilda; however, over lockdown we spent more time at our house in Blairgowrie,’ she says. ‘My partner Tony and I are lucky enough to live there around half the week, with the remainder spent in Melbourne. This suits him well as he’s an actor, writer and director who works all over Australia.’ While Julia has found her pandemic work very fulfilling, she’s careful to look after herself. ‘I’ve had to be mindful of getting burnt out, and take preventative steps,’ she says. ‘I might do eight 50-minute sessions in one day when I’m working one-on-one with clients, which is a lot of people’s lives to hold.’ Julia’s focused on family and travel outside of work, as well as good food and good friends. ‘I have two children (Lewis, 22 and Olivia, 19) and a stepson (Kristian, 20),’ she says. ‘Lewis studied jazz piano at the Victorian College of the Arts, and is finally able to perform live gigs again; Liv is studying biomedicine and engineering at Melbourne Uni, and teaching Acro Dance in her spare time; and Kristian has recently moved to the Sunshine Coast to spend time with his mother.’
Wedding bells are also around the corner for Julia. ‘Tony and I are getting married in October,’ she confirms. ‘We’d planned to marry in Greece, but Covid put the brakes on our plans. After two years of lockdowns, we’re very excited to hold a celebration of food, music, love and friendships for friends and family who have supported us on our journey. I feel so grateful to have found someone to share this journey of life with.’ Julia also has a huge soft spot for Porsches. ‘I’ve just bought Elsa, my Frozen Blue Taycan, which I love because she’s fun,’ she says. ‘Elsa brings the basic human need of joy into my life after sitting through a tough day.’ She’s also impressed with Taycan’s sustainability features. ‘I was keen to own an electric vehicle, largely for environmental reasons, and checked out all the competition. Porsche provided me with the opportunity to be environmentally responsible, but in a vehicle that was fun to drive, and certainly a sexier ride than the others on offer. I loved the colour options and how comfortable the drive was.’ It didn’t take long for Julia and Tony to fall for the Porsche. ‘Jake Parsons took us for a ride (faster than I’ll probably ever go!) and showed us what it had to offer,’ she remembers. ‘It felt so smooth, even at that speed – and as part of the beauty of being electric, there’s even front and rear storage! ‘In an instant, our decision was made. We’re delighted with the car, and love not having to stop for petrol.’ There you have it. Sustainability, storage, silence, and speed … the Taycan has it all. •

A
t Porsche Brighton, Business Development Manager Libby Miller is just such a person. With 25 years in the automotive industry, Libby has built a well-deserved reputation. This extensive experience has made Libby perfectly equipped to become an extraordinary Porsche employee. ‘My dad owned multiple Porsches, so they’ve always been a large part of my life,’ she recalls. Early in Libby’s working life, she became involved with the automotive industry. ‘I started in our family business selling whitegoods when an automotive cadetship came up, which began a career I’ve never looked back from,’ she notes. Libby steadily worked her way through the prestige automotive world, first as a Sales Cadet, then Assistant Sales Manager, and eventually Sales Manager – one of only two women in Australia to hold this position at the time. ‘I was extremely fortunate throughout the 10 years I worked at this first dealership, where I was given the opportunity to learn every aspect of the business,’ she says. ‘We got our hands dirty and did everything ourselves in this role; this is where I harnessed my ability and developed the competency to be where I am today.’ Working in various prestige automotive dealerships over 15 years, Libby took an opportunity to further her career by moving into the automotive recruitment space. Five years in the sector opened up a whole new learning journey for Libby, who dealt with most of the dealerships in Victoria while working on the business (rather than in the business). ‘What an eye-opener!’ she remarks. ‘I thought I knew a lot, but quickly worked out I had only just scratched the surface.’ Rapidly building a reputation as one of Melbourne’s best automotive recruiters, Libby’s swiftly growing reputation opened doors to automotive industry leaders. ‘Every dealership has a different culture and set of needs, and what works for one doesn’t necessarily work for the other,’ she reflects. ‘What an honour to be able to build relationships with my industry peers and know I made a difference to their dealership.’ When opportunity comes knocking at Porsche Centre Brighton, who wouldn’t jump at the chance? That was Libby’s philosophy when she joined the team in 2018 as Customer Retention Manager. It was a perfect fit, with her unique skillset making valuable contributions towards the Sales and Service Department’s impressive growth. When the pandemic took control, management strategised on how Libby could best support the Sales team even further. In her new role as Business Development Manager, she and Pre-Owned Manager Goran Lukic are tasked with buying Porsches for the dealership. It’s been a highly productive partnership. Setting new records in pre-owned Porsche car sales. Porsche Centre Brighton is giving others a run for their money, with a very high market share of pre-owned Porsches Australia-wide.

Porsche race drivers and young guns Courtney Prince (who competes in the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia series) and Carter Fox (who competes in the Porsche 944 Challenge) warmed up the eRacing simulators during the afternoon, setting blistering times for club members to chase on the night. The simulators proved very popular with both drivers and spectators. Courtney set a time of 1.11.229 sec with three PCV members coming very, very close on 1.11.366, 1.11.599 and 1.11.996. Porsche is the people’s choice at Flinders E
very year on Easter Sunday, a huge gathering of beautiful exotic, historic, vintage and veteran cars line up at Flinders on the Mornington Peninsula. The event is called the Flinders Motoring Heritage, a major fundraiser organised by the Flinders District Lions Club. Previous events have raised more than $150,000 for Peninsula Health. This year, a bumper crop of almost 200 cars arrived for the prestigious event on a sunny Victorian day. A huge range of makes and models were represented, from veteran vehicles dating back to the early 1900s to the latest luxury Porsches. With so many vehicles to delight spectators, the organisers used a 1934 bus to take people for a sightseeing tour around the village, including food, music and a festival atmosphere. Out of all the memorable cars at the show, only one could take the coveted People’s Choice Award, which is judged by the public.
Tom Barr Smith took the prize this year with his stunning 1972 Porsche 365. A long-time exponent of the Porsche marque, Tom was featured in the July 2021 issue of Turbo magazine with another of his distinctive Porsches – the 2003 C4S, a car he and his son Tom used to conquer the Simpson Desert. Other Porsches at the Finders Motoring Heritage show were displayed by Porsche Centre of Brighton, including a Macan GTS in striking Python Green, a Carmine Red Cayenne GTS Coupe and a 911 Carrera in Crayon – a special Porsche colour which is similar to a non-metallic grey but changes hue under different light. There was also an impressive range of other Porsches on display throughout the show, from an early model Speedster onwards. We look forward to another. •

The Brighton Bean King – Con Mingos
T
he Beanery is a Brighton-based specialist retailer with a sharp eye for the finest coffee – worldwide. The Beanery roast their own unique coffee beans, sourced largely (but not exclusively) from the coffee-growing continents of Africa and South America. Founder Con Mingos is a long-standing expert of everything beanrelated. With good coffee being on top of the list and a priority for many, The Beanery’s moment has arrived. ‘The wave of supermarket capsules has passed,’ Con observes. ‘True connoisseurs seek the fullest possible flavour, which also requires a move towards grinding fresh beans and quality machinery.’ Con explains this emerging movement in coffee culture. ‘The current trend is for a machine that both grinds and brews,’ he notes. ‘Swiss-made Jura machinery, which we specialise in at The Beanery, is ideal for this dual operation. Every Jura machine creates consistently great coffee with the simplest of operation; it’s all at the push of a button and it's failsafe.’ Running on precision-built Swiss technology, Jura’s fully automatic machines remove the risk and guesswork from grinding to coffeemaking, creating perfect coffee in one touch. Even cleaning the machine is an automated one-push process.
27
One of Con’s more exotic blends is the Colombian Organic Excelso, which he describes as ‘a sweet cup with notes of chocolate and buttered popcorn up front, soft mandarin acidity and finishing with a sweet toffee and malt.’ Clearly, we’re not talking about your regular coffee fan. As well as offering a staggering selection of single-origin beans and house blends, Con’s happy to tailor a blend to your liking (roasted in-house, of course!). The Beanery uses a superior German roaster – Probate Gen 3, the only one operating in Australia. When asked about The Beanery’s crucial point of difference, Con couldn’t be clearer. ‘Service, service, and service,’ he asserts. ‘We aim to offer the most comprehensive after-sales service, bar none. With over 30 years’ industry experience, our team provides expert advice to ensure customers make a fully informed choice on coffee beans and machinery to meet their individual needs.’ He’s not kidding. Every machine sold by The Beanery is personally delivered to the home or office, installed to ensure the correct temperatures, operation and setup. The staff demonstrate the machinery’s operation and all features to each new owner. And over each machine’s lifespan, Con and his team provide ongoing maintenance and servicing.
As unparalleled Jura enthusiasts, The Beanery is the place to see the extensive range of global award-winning Jura machinery in operation. In tune with infotainment T
oday’s buzzword is ‘infotainment’. It’s everywhere – including inside your Porsche. Now in its sixth iteration, it keeps getting better, simpler, and more in tune with your needs. For Porsche’s 911, Taycan, Cayenne and Panamera, this sixth-generation Porsche Communication Management (PCM) offers a host of new functions including native Spotify integration. A revised interface design, additional voice control optimisation, wireless Android auto connection and improved planning for electric vehicle charging stops are just some of the many benefits. New coloured icons make functions easier and quicker to recognise. In addition to a clearer and brighter display, the PCM update significantly improves the voice control function’s scope. It’s now even simpler to access functions including news, the car’s operating manual and in-car music streaming.
70 million songs at your fingertips Sit back and enjoy your favourite Spotify songs and podcasts. If you’re a Spotify Premium customer* you’ll be able to link your account to the vehicle using your Porsche ID with Spotify as an additional media source. With the connection built into the system you no longer need to access Spotify via your smartphone. Spotify’s 70 million songs and 3.2 million podcasts are right at your fingertips, with the vehicle showing saved playlists as well as integrating the new Go to Radio option which searches for a piece of music similar to the one currently playing.
Hey, Porsche! Talking to your Porsche has never been easier. Now, by saying ‘Hey Porsche’ your system will be activated. You can still use an on-screen button or a steering wheel button, but the new assistant has been programmed to understand a much larger list of words and phrases. Use it to adjust your climate control system, change the ambient lighting levels, make a phone call or use the navigation feature. The latter has itself been improved, now updating routes more quickly as well as providing traffic levels on certain roads. * Spotify requires a premium subscription.
28
On a charge The optimised algorithms embedded into PCM 6.0 make driving an electric Porsche even more stress-free. The algorithm prioritises charging stations with higher energy outputs, enabling you to plan charging stops more efficiently. The Charging Planner now accounts for the time required to start and end the charging process at the charging station when calculating the total driving time. Together, these measures create a significantly improved charging experience. A dynamic zoom function for charging stations during the trip has been introduced to provide a more comprehensive overview. The system shows all available charging options in the immediate vicinity, including whether they’re currently in use. The wider view limits the display to fast-charging stations, while a new filter makes it possible to sort charging points by output. The PCM 6.0 navigation system also includes a revised route monitor on which relevant events can be individually displayed or hidden during the trip. PCM 6.0 functions are standard on every newly configured Porsche 911, Taycan, Cayenne and Panamera with the exact scope depending on the vehicle’s equipment and powertrain type. Over-the-air updates ensure that Porsche drivers always have the latest software version. •

Bring your Porsche home to Porsche W
hen you bring your pre-owned Porsche back to Porsche Centre Brighton, you’re returning your passion to its rightful place. Porsches are purchased with love and passion. They’re carefully maintained and prized by their owners, who know there’s something unique about every model in the range – in both today’s models and the timeless classics. By trading in or selling a pre-owned Porsche, you’re passing on that passion to another pair of hands who’ll deeply appreciate driving and owning the very same car you did. Importantly, Porsche Centre Brighton gives those bestowing their pride and joy to its new owner the chance to do so in immaculate condition. ‘Porsche has very particular guidelines on preparing a pre-owned Porsche for sale through our dealership,’ explains Libby Miller, Business Development Manager at Porsche Centre Brighton. Each car has a 111-point checklist, and comes with a minimum of 12 months’ warranty and Porsche Roadside Assistance. Customers can feel at ease knowing that all works have been completed in a fully accredited Porsche workshop. ‘The whole process really brings the car back to as-new condition,’ Libby points out. ‘Every true Porsche enthusiast knows and wants this for their car. Each Porsche is not just a purchase; it’s an investment, demonstrating genuine passion and true love for your Porsche.
30
‘Our customers take comfort in knowing we’re backing their pre-owned Porsche,’ she continues. 'We know the car’s history in detail, too – they're buying something they’ve always aspired to own, and they’re buying it in the ideal way.’ The Porsche Approved Warranty has always stood for reliability and trust. Seeking a glimmer of hope Meet Goldie, daughter to Simon and Cristina Digby and baby sister to Jasper and Portia. Goldie is one of 40 children in Australia diagnosed with A-T. Ataxia telangiectasia (A-T) is a rare, incurable disease often described as the worst parts of cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, and cystic fibrosis, along with a severe risk of cancer and lung disease. Children like Goldie with A-T experience: Loss of balance and mobility, confining them to a wheelchair by age 10
•
No immunity from sickness, and prone to serious and potentially deadly infections
•
No coordination, making it difficult for them to read, write, or eat with other children
•
The need for a feeding tube to prevent aspiration to avoid lung infections.
•
A 1,000 times greater likelihood of cancer than the general population, without being able to receive standard treatment due to radiation sensitivity
•
Poor quality of life and social isolation
•
Limited lifespan, with few children living past 25.
After learning of Goldie’s diagnosis, Simon and Cristina immediately sought information. They discovered BrAshA-T, a charitable foundation supporting research into a cure while creating a support network for other families dealing with A-T.
Initial research undertaken by the Wesley Research Institute, has shown the use of a dietary fat supplement has the potential to significantly boost energy metabolism and improve neurological symptoms. In May 2020, Federal Health Minister, Greg Hunt granted funding of $2.46m for a 12-month trial for the 40 Australian Kids affected by A-T. Whilst this trial is focused on giving these children a better quality of life – it is not a cure. More funding is needed to continue treatment for children in Australia and to take the trial to these little A-T superstars globally. Goldie’s family are currently undertaking a fundraiser aimed to raise $200,000. By donating to the Wesley Research Institute’s quest for a cure, you can give hope to children like Goldie. BrAshA-T welcomed the Digbys with open arms, providing a wealth of information about this rare disease. They also introduced the family to Dr Martin Lavin, who shared information about a proposed clinical trial aiming to slow A-T’s progression until a cure is found.
A-T usually sees kids confined to a wheelchair by the age of 8 or 10. If successful, the trial may help slow the progression of A-T to the point where they can avoid the wheelchair until their teens.

The prognosis for A-T is devastating Wesley Research Institute recently launched a clinical trial to investigate whether a dietary fat supplement could provide a potential treatment for slowing down the progress of the disease. According to Lead Investigator Professor David Coman, research has already provided evidence that A-T is partly a ‘mitochondrial disease’ and that all aspects of this defect could be corrected by the ‘liquid fat’ in A-T cells in the laboratory. Professor Coman’s research will investigate the use of a dietary fat supplement, which has the potential to boost energy metabolism and significantly improve neurological symptoms. This world first trial includes 40 children from around Australia who have A-T; Goldie is among them. While A-T is an ultra-rare genetic disease with a mutation in the ‘ATM’ gene, research into possible treatments for A-T could have life-changing outcomes for Australians with a raft of vastly more common debilitating diseases. Advancements in the understanding of the ATM protein may provide insight into, and treatments for, other neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s Disease and Multiple Sclerosis, as well as metabolic syndromes, cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease, cancer and immunodeficiency diseases such as AIDS. Since it was established in 1994, Wesley Research Institute has pushed the frontiers of medicine, delivering real impact to local patients while contributing to knowledge globally. We conduct bench-to-bedside research aimed at delivering faster, more accurate diagnosis, and improved treatments with fewer and less severe side effects - as well as new treatments for faster, improved recovery. Dale Wood joins Earl Bamber Motorsport Dale Wood has entered his fifth Carrera Cup Australia campaign, but with a new team for 2022 as he has joined forces with Earl Bamber Motorsport (EBM). The new partnership came about during this past season after taking note of EBM’s entry into the Australian motorsport scene at the beginning of 2021.
E
arl Bamber Motorsport is a world-class customer racing team, currently competing in Asia, Australia and Europe in Porsche 911 GT3 R and Porsche 911 GT3 Cup machinery. EBM was founded by racing brothers Earl and Will Bamber, taking their own on-track experience and success into their own organisation. Since its inception, the team has rapidly expanded, achieving victories at all levels in which it has participated including the highest levels of world GT racing. ‘I’m extremely excited to be joining EBM. From the outside looking in last year, I thought they hit the ground running with a very slick operation. I am looking forward to bringing my supporters over to EBM and hopefully we can share some great success together,’ Dale explains. ‘Last year I was with a team, ASM, who had a couple of Pro-Am drivers. I was the only Pro driver, and that can be quite difficult … I really wanted to be with a team full of Pro drivers, because then I can analyse my teammates' data and make sure I’m getting the most out of myself. It’s the best way to push each other forward.’ Australian EBM Team Manager Ben Jenkins said he was excited about Dale joining the three-car team, as he will bring a wealth of knowledge to the maiden season for the other two drivers in the team – Callum Hedge and Ryan Suhle.
‘We’ve grown from fielding one car to three within 12 months because people can see through our past results what we can offer them.’ Although Dale has changed teams, he hasn't changed colours or supporters. His sponsors such as global company Timken, and local companies like GB Galvanizing and Delta Floorworld, are coming along for the ride. His 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Car (Type 992) will be easily recognised because he has kept his distinctive orange and black livery, similar to what he has run over the past two years. Dale competes in the Pro class, which has some of Australia’s best sports car drivers who all compete in the same 911 GT3 Cup (Type 922) race cars based on the current 992 generation road car, the first to feature a wide turbo-spec body. Each produce around 375kW, which is another 18kW more than the previous car. ‘We have the new 992 car this year, so it’s still something I'm coming to terms with. It’s a very different car to the last generation car, but it’s a good thing,’ Dale says. ‘We’ve been fast in testing. We’ve tested at The Bend, Queensland Raceway, Phillip Island and Winton.’
‘The experience Dale can and will bring to our team is immense. It’s great to have him onboard, as it will be a huge benefit for our young drivers to learn from someone with the level of knowledge Dale has,’ Ben said.
The overall increase in performance of the 992 generation over the Type 991 II generation was immediately apparent in the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup rounds in 2021, where lap times were slashed by up to three seconds at most European circuits.
‘If you look back to the last full season of racing in 2019, Dale pushed Jordan Love all the way to the finish line for the overall championship. We know he will be in it until the very end.
This was in part due to not only the increase in power, but also increased traction and downforce, with component run times also extended over the previous generation.

Island paradise for Porsche drivers
P
erfect weather conditions at Phillip Island made for a racer’s paradise when a group of around 20 Porsche owners and their cars enjoyed exclusive use of the iconic Victorian circuit. Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Pro driver Dale Wood was on hand to provide guidance and ensure that the drivers had a rewarding experience, one that would enhance their enjoyment of their car as well as their ability to extract even more fun from it. ‘I really enjoy those days, because I think this is a great group of people who all have the same interests – Porsche enthusiasts,’ Dale says. ‘For me to be able to assist them with my knowledge of Phillip Island and seeing the progress from everybody from the first session of the day throughout the day to the last session is a very worthwhile experience.’ Dale was the only professional driver on the day, but he was able to spend valuable track time with each driver and give each advice that would enable them to not only go faster but also hone their track skills, so they were safer and extracted even more fun from their cars. By the end of the day, everyone was tired but very pleased to have been able put in some memorable laps while gaining a deeper understanding of abilities of these very special sports cars' abilities. •

Melbourne to Marysville Take the winding road from Melbourne to Marysville along The Black Spur, a stunning, scenic drive that weaves through the Dandenong Ranges, taking in some of Victoria’s most incredible ancient forests and looking like it’s come By Gwen Luscombe straight out of National Geographic.
Melbourne to Healesville Farewell Melbourne and venture towards the rolling vineyard views of the Yarra Valley. Take the M3 to Lilydale and then the Maroondah Highway passing open pastures, rolling hills with symmetrical vineyards and lush forests. From the northeastern suburbs of Melbourne, you’ll find yourself in the regional food and wine hub of Healesville in only 20-30 minutes, or roughly an hour of drive time along gently sloping gradients from the CBD. Take your time in Healesville and enjoy any one of the more than 90 wineries and cellar doors in the region including the likes of Domaine Chandon, Rochford Wines, Levantine Hill, and Balgownie Estate to name a few.

Healesville is also where you'll find Four Pillars Distillery, named the International Gin Producer of the Year twice at the International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC) in London. Visiting the distillery means you can see where the magic happens, try some amazing new flavours as well as stock up on everything you need for an incredible G&T at home. Keen for a coffee? Healesville’s Habituel serves up baked goods and coffee you can’t go wrong with. Roasted in a special prototype 20-kilogram Buhler AG coffee roaster that produces a more even and controllable roast with no charring of the bean, they create a cuppa you won’t soon forget. Enjoy one there and grab another for the road.
g
Healesville to Marysville From Healesville, it's flora and fauna aplenty with towering mountain ash, flowering gums, myrtle and tree ferns rising on both sides of the roadways as you wind your way through The Black Spur. This 30km drive starts in Healesville and continues through to Narbethong on the Maroondah Highway, winding its way up the Great Dividing Range. You’ll enjoy a cool, sheltered and smooth drive over sealed roads and on cooler days, it has a misty, almost mythical feel with shafts of light breaking through the towering trees and lush green surrounds spilling over the embankments. Think gorgeous valley views, windy two-lane roads with hairpin turns and short straight sections between uphill and downhill twists. It’s often referred to as Victoria’s most beautiful road trip for cars and motorbikes alike, and as you weave your way through the old mountain ash trees you’d be forgiven for thinking you were driving through a California Redwood forest. Also, you’ll want to put the roof down or at the very least roll down the window and experience the fresh, crisp Australian bushland air. As you soak up the lush landscape, take your time and keep an eye out for wildlife as it’s a popular place for lyrebirds, kangaroos and other natives who call this forest home. You’ll also come to appreciate that this drive has so many treasures along the way that it’d be a shame to rush. Along the journey, make a stop at the highest point on the route at roughly 550m altitude, the Dom Dom Saddle picnic area.

Not just a pleasant spot to stop and soak up the sights and sounds of nature, but also a great place to stretch your legs. You might even recognise this stretch from one of the many television commercials filmed here over the years. From here, continue just a short distance longer to Marysville. During the winter months, this route is popular with those venturing to the snowfields of Lake Mountain, but during the warmer months, you’ll find it scenic, shady and spectacular. Back in the 1800s, Marysville was a stopover for gold diggers heading to the goldfields. In the 1920s, it was a honeymooning town and boutique guesthouses popped up to accommodate.

Today it’s a charming village famous for its local cafes, bakeries, art galleries and gorgeous B&Bs. There’s also The Peppers Maryville for those wanting to make an overnight or weekend of it, so there’s extra time to drop a line in pristine lakes and streams or tee off at the 18-hole golf course nestled in the Great Dividing Range. While in Marysville, Steavenson Falls is iconic to the region as well as other waterfall attractions including Keppel Falls, Phantom Falls and Taggerty Cascades. Drive time/distance: Approx. 100km one way from Melbourne CDB, with roughly one hour and 50 minutes's driving time. •
