Welcome to the 2026 Optimist International Junior Golf Championship!
For more than a century, Optimist International has been dedicated to a simple yet profound mission: Bringing out the best in youth, our communities, and ourselves. This event stands as a testament to that commitment, showcasing both the dedication of our volunteers and the incredible talent of young people from communities across the globe. This tournament will provide players with a unique opportunity to cultivate skills that extend far beyond the golf course. You will not only test your abilities against talented peers from diverse backgrounds but also forge lifelong friendships and learn invaluable lessons in sportsmanship and perseverance.
Success on the fairway, as in life, requires more than skill. It demands a positive mental attitude. When you approach every drive, chip and putt with optimism, you unlock your true potential and build the belief that you can achieve your goals, despite challenges and setbacks along the way.
So, I challenge each of you to adopt this optimistic mindset and BE THE CHANGE you wish to see, both in the sport of golf and in your local communities.

Curfew
Players must comply with the tournament curfew of 10:30 p.m. You must be in your room and remain in your room for the remainder of the night unless accompanied by an adult chaperone, parent or legal guardian.

Opens at 6:30 a.m. Free-range balls available for participants until the last tee-time on tournament round days.
Optimist Golf Merchandise
Optimist Golf merchandise for sale in the tournament office (Imperial Ballroom) includes t-shirts, caps, golf seats, umbrellas, divot repair kits, hat clips with markers, scorecard holders, tote bags and more.
Paramedic
A paramedic will be located on site in the tournament office (Imperial Ballroom) on tournament round days from 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. If you experience any medical problems, please stop by the tournament office or if on the course, seek out a volunteer for them to contact medical personnel immediately.
For after-hours medical emergencies, please contact the resort operator. Dial “0” from any house phone or call 911.

The Pro Shop is open from 6:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. each day.

The Scoring Room located in the Imperial Ballroom is open to players and tournament officials only (parents and guests are not permitted).
Tee Times and Results
Tee-times for the following day’s play and results will be posted each evening outside the tournament office, scoring room and posted on www.optimist.org/golf.
Video Arcade Room
Open 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. daily on the lower level of the resort. Video games are available free of charge to all participants.
Meals
Each registered participant will receive a meal badge valid for five breakfasts and four dinners. Badges are valid only in the tournament dining room. Individual meal tickets are available for purchase in the tournament office.

Description of Events
“Glow-Ball” Putting Event
Sharpen up your putting skills at night with the nine-hole glowing golf. The putting green is set like a miniature golf course with lit holes. Let’s light up the night!
Opening Ceremony and Player Orientation
Don’t miss the Opening Ceremonies and parade of flags followed by the player orientation. Learn important local rules and evacuation procedures in case of bad weather. The Long Drive Competition winners are announced. Attendance at this event is mandatory for all golfers.
Long-Drive Competition
Preliminaries take place from 2-5 pm on the #1 Blue Monster Course on practice round days. The top finishers from each age division will advance to the finals and compete for awards (see schedule of activities for date and time).
Parent-Child Classic
The Parent-Child Classic is a two-player team consisting of a junior golfer and a parent, stepparent, grandparent or aunt/uncle competes. The tournaments will be held on July 20 and July 25 on the Blue Monster.
Golf Trivia Night (golfers only)
Join us in the Ivanka Ballroom at 8pm for Trivia Night! Teams will consist of 8 people or less, no outside resources or phones allowed to assist your team. See schedule of activities for date and time).
Educational Seminar (Boys 16-18 and Girls 15-18)
Join us on July 29 at 8 pm for the “Road to College Golf -- What it Takes: A College Coaches Panel” Topics of discussion will include NCAA rules & regulations, contact with coaches, the recruitment process, and responsibilities of the student athletes.

Optimist Golf Code of Conduct
for Participants
The Optimist International Junior Golf Championship takes great pride in the quality of its players, host facility and volunteer involvement. Optimist Junior Golf requires all players and guests to adhere to a set of guidelines. Tournament play will be conducted in accordance with USGA rules, Code of Conduct and Optimist local rules. Participants are expected to conduct themselves in proper fashion both on and off the course for the duration of the event.
Violations ON THE COURSE
• Unsportsmanlike conduct, including abusive language, club throwing, disrespect to volunteers, officials or fellow competitors, or abuse of golf course property.
• Use of drugs, alcohol, smoking or chewing tobacco products—a zero tolerance policy is in effect.
• Not adhering to the dress code tournament play.
• Use of cell phones can only be used to notify a tournament official for a ruling or medical attention. Please make sure they are turned off during play. Headsets is strictly prohibited and may result in disqualification.
Violation OFF THE COURSE
• Use of drugs, alcohol, smoking or chewing tobacco products—a zero tolerance policy is in effect.
• Vandalism at the hotel or its surrounding properties, abusive behavior to any volunteer or tournament official.
• Damages in any rooms will be the financial responsibility of the players occupying the room. Please report accidental damage to your chaperone or at the tournament office.
• All players must comply with the tournament Curfew of 10:30 p.m. local time. You must be in your room by the Curfew and remain in your room for the remainder of the night unless accompanied by an adult chaperone, parent, or legal guardian. Nightly random room checks will be made.
• Leaving the resort property is not permitted unless accompanied by an adult chaperone, parent, or guardian.
• Gambling is not permitted. Any games involving the exchange of money are strictly prohibited.
• Male and female participants may not occupy the same room at any time. Roommate changes are not permitted. Once you are assigned to a room you may not change rooms. No exceptions.
• Attendance at the player orientation is mandatory. Any player failing to attend the player orientation may be subject to disqualification.
Optimist Golf Code of Conduct
for Participants
Dress Code
Proper golf attire is always required during tournament play. Questionable attire will be reviewed by the Tournament Director. Players in violation of the dress code will not be permitted to tee off.
• Hats/visors must be worn with brim forward.
• Collar shirts must be always worn and tucked in with the following exceptions: Men’s shirts without a collar must have a tight neck fit.
• No tank tops, short shorts, denim shorts, cut-off shorts, gym shorts, t-shirts or jeans.
Accepted items for ladies:
• Golf shirts: Collared shirts are standard, but sleeveless and mock-neck options are also acceptable.
• Skirts, skorts and shorts: as long as they meet the length requirements and are not denim.
• Dresses: Golf dresses with built-in shorts.
• Properly fitting athletic wear: Clothing that is specifically designed for golf is generally acceptable.
Prohibited for ladies:
• Plunging necklines: Tops with low necklines.
• Racerback tops without a collar: Sleeveless tops must have a collar (mock or regular) or be a standard golf shirt.
• Leggings: Unless worn under a skirt or shorts, leggings are prohibited.
• Shorts, skirts or skorts with insufficient coverage: The bottom area of the player should not be exposed, even when bending over.
• Joggers: Joggers are not considered appropriate golf attire.
Optimist Golf Code of Conduct
for Spectators
In golf, customs of etiquette and decorum are just as important as rules governing play. It is appropriate for parents and spectators to applaud successful strokes, but to secure the spirit of the game, we ask parents and spectators to please adhere to the following guidelines. Please note that if any of the following guidelines are perceived as broken by a Rules Official, the player may be subject to penalty.
• Advice (Rule 10) is any counsel or suggestion which could influence a player in determining his play, the choice of a club or the method of making a stroke. In addition, any conversation between player/spectator may be construed as advice. This includes any conversation between player/spectator in their native language. In either instance, the penalty for breach of this rule is two strokes. Players are responsible for the actions of their relatives and spectators in regard to this rule.
• Spectators attend Optimist Golf events at their own risk.
• Place phones on silent and if calls are necessary, move far enough away as to not be heard by players.
• Spectator carts are allowed at the Championships. Spectators must pay for and abide by all cart policies set up by the Doral staff. Any violations can result in loss of privileges for remainder of event.
• Spectators should stay on cart paths. In the absence of cart paths, we ask that spectators stay in the rough. Please stay off fairways, tees and greens.
• Spectators should stay one shot ahead of the group they are following. This allows spectators to follow errant shots and help identify where the ball comes to rest. Spectators are allowed to aid in the search for lost golf balls.
• Spectators should not give rulings. Please seek a rules official if the need arises.
• Spectators are allowed to carry medicine, drinks, food, umbrellas, etc.
• If a spectator commits a serious breach (as determined by the Rules Committee), they may be asked to leave the course.
• For your personal safety, we ask you exercise caution at all times. When inclement weather moves into the area, play will be suspended by sounding airhorns. Accordingly, you should seek shelter immediately. The staff will evacuate players from the course first and then spectators.
• Spectators are asked not to consume alcoholic beverages while on the golf course, in any Optimist meal function or planned indoor event.
Violation Penalties
Will vary depending on severity of offense, one stroke for minor, two strokes for repeated minor, and disqualification for serious. See the Optimist Code of Conduct on Local Rules (Hard Card).
Withdrawal Policy
This policy will allow for withdrawals for medical reasons or for emergencies. The medical reason must be verified and approved by the Rules Official and Tournament Director. If the player is deemed to be ok to play but refuses they will receive a NC (no card) on final report.
The entire group involved will be held at the point of stoppage and other groups will play through. A rules official will restart the group. All play must comply with all current tournament rules and policies. The player must notify and receive approval of a rules official prior to leaving the course. The decision of the Rules Committee is final. If a family emergency or the like, player will receive a WD on final report.
The reason or reasons must be verified by the Rules Committee. All printed and published results at the end of the tournament will reflect a withdraw status.
Optimist Clubs are dedicated to “Bring out the best in youth, our communities, and ourselves.” and do their part through community service projects. Since each Club is autonomous and run by members in their community, Optimists have the unique flexibility to serve the youth of their area in any way they see fit. Optimist Clubs see a need in their community and react to it.
No matter what life throws your way, it is important to stay positive. Staying positive can be difficult during tough times, but it is possible by adopting a mindset of Optimism. The Optimist Creed is a guide for keeping a positive outlook on life, no matter what happens.

RYAN DOOMS is an exceptional incoming senior honors student at Air Academy High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He competes on the varsity golf team and named Colorado First Team All-Academic and Second Team All State. Beyond the golf course, Ryan is an active member of National Honor Society and is dedicated to serving his community through volunteer work at local elementary schools and projects supporting families in need. He ranks within the top 4% of his class while maintaining a 4.5 weighted GPA/4.0 unweighted. Raised in a military family, he has developed a strong work ethic, personal discipline, and a steadfast commitment to excellence in both academics and athletics. Teachers and coaches consistently describe Ryan as patient, thoughtful, coachable, and grounded in integrity. Ryan aspires to compete at the collegiate level while pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering, aeronautical engineering, or golf management.
TENLEY SHARRON is a student at Niceville High School in Niceville, Florida. Sharron is an incoming junior who is active in her community, the course, and in school. She is involved as a First Tee junior coach and a kids volunteer at Crosspoint. She has logged many hours of volunteering through Wreaths Across America, Literacy for Little Ones, and volunteered as a coach and mentor for various younger players. In school, she is a member of NHS women’s sports alliance, NHS TPUSA as well as her golf team. Sharron won her two most recent tournaments, shooting consistently in the low 70’s. After high school, Sharron hopes to attend a university on a golf scholarship to study criminal law, to become a criminal justice attorney.
JOSHUA TOMBERG is an exceptional student-athlete from Canton, Georgia, graduating fourth in a class of 500 from Woodstock High School. Throughout his high school career, he made a lasting impact on teachers and peers alike, who described him as one in a million. He served as president of both the Beta Club and the Technology Student Association, while also competing on the varsity golf team. In addition, he was a member of the National Honor Society and raised over $1,000 for ALS research. Academically, he challenged himself by completing 13 AP courses. He has been accepted to the University of Georgia as a pre-med student, where he plans to pursue his goal of becoming a neurologist.
KENNETH YANG is a standout multi-sport athlete from California with a strong commitment to the future of the game of golf. A graduate of Vista del Lago High School, he plans to pursue a career in PGA Golf Management at Penn State University. His passion for golf extends beyond his own play, as he actively works to inspire the next generation of players. In his free time, Kenneth volunteers with First Tee – Sacramento, where he mentors young golfers and assists in the operation of youth tournaments, including the Els for Autism Golf and RISE programs. In addition to golf, he competed on the varsity basketball team, demonstrating his versatility as an athlete. Teachers and coaches consistently highlight his ability to connect with others and bring positive energy to every team he joins.

REBEKAH IM is an outstanding leader from Bradenton, Florida, and an incoming senior at IMG Academy. Her activities include serving as founder and president of the Asian Culture Club, Vice President of the Mentor/Mentee Program and DECA , as well as participating in Youth Court, NHS, and Student Council. As the founder of the Asian Culture Club, she has helped to raise money for food at local family centers and orphanages. She has logged over 500 hours of volunteer work, many of them from her time at the Manatee/ Sarasota Teen Court, where she serves as a jury, prosecuting and defense attorney. She aspires to be a collegiate golfer and dreams of opening a golf academy in Asia to instill leadership, character, and cultural awareness into future golfers.

The San Diego County Junior Golf Association establishes Junior World Golf, creating one of the world’s premier junior golf championships.
1978
Optimist International Becomes Sponsor
Optimist International becomes the title sponsor, launching the Optimist Junior World Championship and expanding qualifying tournaments.
Today
A Global Championship
More than 600 junior golfers from 25+ countries, 45 states, and five Canadian provinces compete annually after advancing through over 55 qualifying tournaments.
Since 1978, golf tournaments sponsored by the Optimists have served as a springboard for many of golf’s greatest players. Scottie Scheffler, Joaquin Niemann, Lexi Thompson, Jason Day, Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Brooke Henderson and Tiger Woods are just a few of today’s elite players who found their humble beginnings with the Optimists. This world-class event originated in 1968 when three leaders of the San Diego County Junior Golf Association formed Junior World Golf. In 1978, through the action of Dudley Williams, a lifelong San Diego resident and soon-to-be President of Optimist International, the Optimists became a sponsor of the event, thus creating “Optimist Junior World.” Through this partnership, Optimist International began holding qualifying tournaments for 15- to 17-year-olds across the United States and Canada. As a result, 55 tournaments drew more than 3,500 entrants.
The Optimist continues to be one of the best-known junior tournaments in the world with more than 5,000 golfers, ages 10-18, participating in qualifying tournaments each year.

Annually approximately 600 of the best junior golfers, representing over 25 nations, 45 states and five Canadian Provinces, converge for a week of unsurpassed competition, fellowship and fun.
