How did you find/approach them?

I met Derek Travis, well-known as one of the original racers on the TV series Street Outlaws, at the Wally No-Prep Race at Tulsa Raceway Park. While Street Outlaws is no longer on TV, Derek continues to compete in events across the country. We struck up aconversation in the staging lanes about his current race program andsponsorship goals. After the event, I followed up with aFacebook Direct Message to introduce my business, Open ThrottleMedia.

 Reintroduce himself tofans post–Street Outlaws with updated content featuring his new build, a twin-turbo LS powered GMC Jimmy

Through strategic reels, behind-the-scenes storytelling, and a polished sponsorship deck, Derek could connect with both long-time fans and new audiences. 3. Project Delivery & Work Samples

Deliverable 1 Results: 8 Jimmy Launch Posts

I created a series of Instagram and Facebook posts to introduce Kool-Aid, the new GMC Jimmy build, to Derek’s audience. Posts included a build history featurewith behind-thescenes shots from the shop during the build, some of the build specs, anddriver insights. I used Canva to design content using Derek’s branding and logos. The posts were scheduled for maximum engagement leading up to his next event.

Deliverable 1 Samples:

Deliverable 2 Results: 4 Branded Reels/Videos

Produced four high-energy reels highlighting Kool-Aid in action. Clips included track passes, some testing done on the street, engine sound teasers, and fan interaction moments. Edited in CapCut with trending audio and burned-in captions tomake them mobile-friendly. These reels were formatted for both Instagram and Facebook, with versions optimized for vertical viewing.

Deliverable 2 Sample:

I was unable to createa sample of the reels since this is a hypothetical client, and I did not have actual video footage to use.

Deliverable 3 Results: Sponsorship Request Letter

Crafted a professional, persuasive sponsorship request letter aimed at wheel manufacturers (specifically Keizer and RCComp, per Derek’s request). The letter included Derek’s racingbackground (including his history on Street Outlaws), a littleabout the new build, and the benefits of sponsorship partnering on the newset of wheels. Delivered via email to Keizer and RCComp for Derek.

4. Invoice& Payment Confirmation

I used Waveto createthe invoice and manually input the payment receipt.

5. Client Feedback

Mock Testimonial (Email Quote):

“Working with Dawna atOpen Throttle Media helped me connect withfans old and new. The posts and reels helped me launch my new build tomy followers, and the sponsor deck gaveme a professional way to approach newpartners. She made the process simple so I couldfocus on racing.”

6. Final Reflection & Next Steps

Completing this project was a lot of fun. Taking Derek’s new GMCJimmy from a behind-thescenes build toa fully launched brand on social media was incredibly rewarding. Revealing the new name (Kool-Aid) and branding (logo), along with seeing the posts scheduled, was exciting. Knowing the posts woulddrivefan engagement and excitement for Kool-Aid gave methe same pre-race adrenaline Derek probably feels.

What surprised me most was how muchthe small details (like color matching, sponsor tags, and sound selection) elevated the final product. Canva made post design smooth, CapCut kept video editing fast and mobile-friendly, andMeta Business Suite was invaluable for scheduling content withoutmanual posting.

For my next steps with areal client, I’d focus on integrating analytics tracking from day one, so we could measure engagement growth over the campaign. I’d alsoexplore short-form video series ideas to keep momentum going beyond asingle event, ensuring the client’s social media remains consistent and sponsor-friendly year-round.

I have taken some of the ideas I generated on this project to Derek inreal life, and we may work together in the near future on a short-term project for an OG Street Outlaws Live series, afew of the guys are putting together. This short-term project could lead tomore experience, more exposure, and potentially a long-term client relationship.
