Community invited to Special Olympics send-off

Brief event set for 11 a.m. on July 19 in Auburn CONTRIBUTED BY CITY OF AUBURN

AUBURN — The Lee County Special Olympics will send 27 Olympians to compete in the Alabama Special Olympics State Games July 19-20 at Troy University. To celebrate Lee County Special Olympic athletes, Auburn Public Safety, Mayor Ron Anders, Aubie and the entire Auburn Parks & Rec therapeutics group will host a sendoff event on Friday, July 19, at 11 a.m. at the Duck Samford lower parking (1720 E. University Dr.).

The community is invited to attend this send-off, which will provide an opportunity to show support and encouragement for the Olympians as they embark on this exciting journey. The event will last no longer than 30 minutes. Originally scheduled for May 17-19 but canceled due to weather, the event has been condensed into a one-night experience, welcoming over 600 athletes from across the state of Alabama.
