2026 Taco Spring Meeting and Trade Show

Page 1

Message From Our President

It’s Springtime in Texas and that means one thing – here comes the TACO Spring Meeting and Trade Show and a gathering of like-minded industry folks. Your Association has worked very hard to give you a Spring Show packed full of vendors, classes and fun!

The RV park business in Texas is looking up in 2026, and once again we sold out our expanded vendor space – there will be something on display for everyone! We also added more educational opportunities to bring you as much industry information as possible because things are changing constantly these days. Whether you are building a park, buying a park or looking to improve and increase your park’s current occupancy and profits, you will find many ideas here at the TACO show.

Although the Texas legislature is not in session this year, your Association has been hard at work promoting tourism and our industry in Austin and around Texas. TACO staff and our legislative consultant have been in several meetings with the Governor and his staff on key issues, not the least of which is property tax. In fact, the Texas Comptroller is opening this meeting.

At the Legislature/Legal Round Up on Wednesday afternoon, members will learn about the latest bills that passed and what TACO is working on to protect the campground industry in Texas. Please don’t forget to view the amazing raffle items and purchase lots of raffle tickets that help support our legislative effort!

Back by popular demand is the TACO Casino night sponsored by Leavitt Recreation & Hospitality Insurance! Use this time and our meal events to network with other park owners and vendors – you’ll be pleasantly surprised by what you learn.

It takes a team to make this show happen, and I want to thank our sponsors, vendors, and our membership (parks and vendors) for supporting and making our show possible. I want to thank Brian, Debra, Lisa, and the whole staff for working on the show all year in addition to the work they do every day, and to our Board for making our Association the success that it is!

If you have any questions or ideas don’t hesitate in asking a staff member or a Board member. We are here to serve you!

Charlie Bates TACO President

Legislative Update Report

YourLegislativeTeamatWorkforYou!

As TACO looks forward to the 2027 Texas legislative session, the legislative team has begun to meet and discuss the concerning issues and develop a plan of action for 2027. Despite it being an off year for the Legislature, TACO is ready with a strong legislative agenda.

Here is what TACO leadership is focused on to improve the RV Park industry in Texas:

➢ SB1 / NFPA 1194 Legislation Now that this historic piece of legislation has become law, what does that mean for campgrounds? NFPA 1194 covers a lot of ground — especially when it comes to evacuation plans — and the TACO legislative team is here to help explain both the standard and the new law that codifies it. Plus, they’ll go over examples of parks that have already received approval for an evacuation plan from their local governments.

➢ Additional Property Tax Relief and Reform You could argue this is the biggest issue facing Texas campground operators. With parks seeing a 200-300% increase in property taxes from one year to the next, owners won’t be able to sustain their businesses. The TACO legislative team will review the association’s history of fighting property taxes and outline TACO’s next steps.

➢ Tiny Home Definition With more cities attempting to use Tiny Home Villages as a solution to their homeless problem, it’s critical that campgrounds are not lumped in with them, especially when it comes to the law.

As always, the legislature can be somewhat unpredictable in its work, and TACO will remain vigilant in any potential changes in law, positive and negative, that might affect TACO and its members.
