Remember we are still currently the only cinema in town! I’m not normally a fan of New Year resolutions (they are normally forgotten by the end of January!) however, I do have a request for you to make one. That is to see just one extra event at Trinity in the coming year. Do you know that a staggering 65% of our audience visited us just once in the last year? If those people came just one more time that would mean an additional 8,500 tickets sold and would have a transformative effect on us! As you know we face a future where our core funding is in decline and our costs are constantly increasing. This means that you, our audience, are one of our key funders! So, the more times you come, not only will you have a great night out, you will be helping ensure that we continue to thrive and carry on the great work that we do.

It highlights the cruelty at the heart of the court of Mantua. Richly dressed courtiers engage in orgies and revelries to Verdi’s heady, spirited dances. Rigoletto, court jester to the libertine Duke of Mantua, is cursed by the father of one of the Duke’s victims for his irreverent laughter. When the Duke seduces Rigoletto’s daughter Gilda, it seems the curse is taking effect…

Jonathan Kent’s production captures the dangerous political turbulence of 1800 Rome. Scarpia, one of the most malevolent villains in opera, ruthlessly pursues and tortures enemies of the state. His dark, demonic music contrasts with the expansive melodies of the idealistic lovers, Tosca and Cavaradossi, who express their passion in sublime arias, including ‘Vissi d’arte’ and ‘E lucevan le stelle’. Christopher Wheeldon, Artistic Associate of The Royal Ballet, created his adaptation of Shakespeare’s late great romance The Winter’s Tale for The Royal Ballet in 2014. The story follows the destruction of a marriage through consuming jealousy, the abandonment of a child and a seemingly hopeless love. Yet, through remorse and regret, the ending is one of forgiveness and reconciliation. The opera’s heady combination of passion, sensuality and violence initially proved too much for the stage, and it was a critical failure on its 1875 premiere. Bizet died shortly after, and never learned of the spectacular success his Carmen would achieve: the opera has been performed more than five hundred times at Covent Garden alone. £19 (£18) £16 Live Transmission

Verdi’s life-long love affair with Shakespeare’s works began with Macbeth, a play he considered to be ‘one of the greatest creations of man’. With his librettist, Francesco Maria Piave, Verdi set out to create ‘something out of the ordinary’. The warrior Macbeth fights on the side of the King of Scotland – but when a coven of witches prophesy that he shall become king himself, a ruthless ambition drives Macbeth and his wife to horrific acts. Trinity Senior Cinema is a new initiative, developed with help from the Good Neighbour Project, designed to combat social isolation by providing people with the opportunity to see a classic film on the big screen whilst meeting new people, socialising and making new friends. These screenings are held on the 3rd Monday of each month and for the duration of the screening the volume will be a little higher than normal, the house lights will not be completely turned down and there will be a 15 minute interval. These screenings are also open to the general public but please be aware of the screening conditions above and also there may be some conversations that continue throughout the film - this is all acceptable and part of these screenings!

The Children’s University (CU) is able to recognise and reward children for all the additional learning in which they participate voluntarily outside normal school hours. As an artist, Roma has developed different styles through sculpture, ceramics, traditional and abstract work, in addition to painting scenery for musicals. Portraits of animals and people have always been an abiding interest however, landscape and still life too as she seeks the underlying structure, atmosphere and character. It is not just a retinal image. Roma is not afraid to experiment and this is reflected in the work on display at this exhibition.

Claire is a local photographer with roots in textile design. For this exhibition, she has gone back to her beginnings and put together black and white designs. Some are lino prints which could be made into scarf designs, though beautiful in their own right, and some are pictures. All are handmade here in Kent. She has worked for Libertyâ€™s, Karl Largerfeld and Dunhill, and has photographed Bucks Fizz and many of our local people. Claire will work on commissions if asked.

Elizabeth Hunt is a local artist painting in oil and watercolour. Taking inspiration from her garden and the surrounding countryside she is fond of capturing the fleeting beauty of the changing seasons. David’s style could be described as a cross between impressionism and expressionism. 50% of of all sales of David’s work will go to Hospice in The Weald.

Vanessa draws on 18 years of experience as a therapist for children and families in North London for her latest exhibition. When talking is too difficult, art has proved a winning tool to enable expression for a difficult narrative. Mood can be altered and influenced by colour and inspiration comes from everything and anything. What ends up painted on her canvas is a combination of all of the above, peppered with endless decisions.

Tickets can be purchased over the phone on 01892 678 678 during Box Office opening times and online at any time at trinitytheatre.net. There is a ÂŁ2 booking fee per transaction booking online or via phone.

Location

You can also book in person during Box Office opening times for which no booking fee is charged. Those with a Friends membership pay no booking fee both online and in person.

There are a number of pay and display car parks located nearby; we also have our own pay and display car park adjacent to the theatre. Please note overnight charges now apply.
