The Embassy Suites and Courtyard by Marriott in La Vista are proud to be award-winning hotels for being Project SEARCH host sites – a schoolto-work program for students with intellectual and development disabilities in partnership with the Papillion La Vista Community Schools and Nebraska Vocational Rehabilitation. Their classroom is onsite, where their learning experience includes three rotations of 10 weeks each in a range of hotel and conference departments that include housekeeping, engineering, restaurants, kitchens and banquets. Guests and staff alike appreciate their integration and soon discover their unique skills are a valuable asset. Embassy Suites and Courtyard by Marriott also host a Business Advisory Council that assists the students in finding meaningful employment following course completion. Having placed 26 out of 27 students who have completed the program since 2013, the hotel team members are looking forward to coaching and teaching the class of 2016.

Originating as a fur-trading post in 1822, Bellevue earned its name from trappers who admired the city’s “beautiful view” of the wooded bluffs surrounding the majestic Missouri River.

GRETNA: WHERE THE WELCOME MAT IS ALWAYS SET OUT The city originally sprang from an old Irish immigrant settlement called Forest City when the Burlington Railroad began laying down tracks in the area. Legend has it that Gretna was named by the railroad for the Gretna Green Community in Scotland. But no one knows for sure.

AND BEAUTIFUL According to legend, fur trappers who came upon the area stumbled upon thousands of butterflies flying in the sunlight, causing one member of the exploring party to exclaim “Papillon!” —the French word for butterfly. La Vista is Nebraska’s youngest and fastest-growing city. La Vista also happens to be the second city in Sarpy County to be named for its setting, adopting the Spanish translation for “the view.”

PRAIRIE QUEEN RECREATION AREA NE Hwy 370 and 132nd St. The recreation area has 135 acres of lake, 260 acres of park, plus 4 miles of hike/bike trails. It also includes a boat ramp and picnic areas. The site will host no-wake boating, like other metro-area lakes to prevent shoreline erosion. TRAILS
TRAILS BELLEVUE KEYSTONE/BELLEVUE LOOP TRAIL The Keystone Trail connects to the Bellevue Loop at Highway 370 and Capehart Road. It is paved and very flat except for its underpasses which allow users to safely cross all major streets. Trailhead parking is at 48th Street and Cornhusker Road. BELLEVUE LOOP TRAIL The Keystone Trail connects to the Bellevue Loop at Highway 370 and 25th Street. This trail runs through Haworth Park in Bellevue. Trailhead parking is at either 13th Street & Capehart Road or Harlan Lewis Rd.
LEWIS & CLARK INTERPRETIVE TRAIL 16 interpretive sites along the Missouri River in Nebraska and Iowa. Nature & History Trail Haworth Park, Bellevue. More than two miles of trails that run through beautiful woods and along the edge of the Missouri River. Entrance to the trail is on the north side of Hwy 370, just west of the Bellevue Bridge
PAPILLION HALLECK NATURE TRAIL Winds through the heart of Papillion and runs parallel to the Papio Creek. This trail is kept busy daily with walkers, runners, and bikers.
SPRINGFIELD MOPAC TRAIL Runs from Schram Road to Springfield and south to the Platte River. This trail also runs through Lincoln and will extend south to South Bend and north to Omaha in the near future.
SARPY COUNTY 144TH STREET TRAIL Paved trail that follows the grade of the street, stretching up and down hills, to connect Standing Bear Lake in Omaha to Springfield, including Chalco Hills Recreation Area. WEST PAPIO TRAIL The Papillion stretch of the trail runs 5.5 miles from Lincoln and Laredo Roads southeast to 36th Street in Bellevue. It also connects to the Walnut Creek Lake and Recreation Area.
