President Dear Good Counsel Community, I am pleased to share with you our 2019-2024 Strategic Priorities, an overview of the formal 2019-2024 Strategic Plan adopted by the Board of Directors on January 31, 2019. A sustained focus on these priorities will enrich the ways in which Our Lady of Good Counsel High School provides a top-tier education to talented students. The coming years are full of promise. So much is possible. Through lengthy working sessions and thoughtful discussions, the members of the Board have created a detailed strategic plan and financial plan. As part of looking forward, we have looked back at our 2015 plan and reflected upon what was accomplished, and what still remains to be achieved. Throughout the process of creating a vision for Good Counsel we have remained mindful of our mission to inspire our students to excel, serve, and love. Among the strategic priorities that we have identified is support for faculty. The plan maps out ways in which we can elevate our
programs and upgrade our facilities. It also outlines our commitment to investigating new ways of communicating about our successes, and, crucially, securing our strength for the future. Woven throughout these priorities is the thread of our true purpose: to educate thinkers, doers, and ethical leaders, guiding them through their formative years so that they are ready to make a difference in the world. In this year where we celebrate our 60th anniversary, the core values of the Xaverian Brothers - simplicity, humility, compassion, zeal, and trust - continue to give direction to our school and help form the Good Counsel graduate. Purpose We are pleased to share our strategic priorities for the next six years at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School. The 2019-2024 Strategic Plan was formed by the Board of Directors, with assistance from the President’s administrative management team and consultant Dr. Walker Buckalew of Independent School Management. It was formally adopted by the Board in January 2019. To inform and shape its strategy, the Board used input from students, parents, faculty, and staff, and directors; conducted a comprehensive review of current data about Good Counsel; and reflected on the outcomes of its 2015 -2018 strategic plan. We are confident this strategy will help us to achieve our mission to “inspire our students to excel, serve, and love.”

The value of our approach to strategic planning is evident in the many successful outcomes derived from the recently concluded 2015-2018 Strategic Plan: »» Adopted a new, more succinct Mission Statement »» Formed an Enrollment Management Committee to focus on admissions, marketing, communication, and financial aid »» Completed a $10 million capital campaign and opened the Performing Arts Center in 2016 »» Conducted a brand survey and developed a distinct marketing message in 2017 »» To focus on diversity, adopted a school Diversity Statement in 2017 and created a Diversity & Inclusion Coordinator position in 2018 »» Created and filled several other new positions, including Performing Arts Center Operations Manager, College Counselor, HR Manager, and Learning Specialist »» Strengthened the school’s financial position »» Increased financial aid for students from $2.25M in 2014-15 to $3.5M in 2018-19 »» Board modified its operations to focus more on strategy and governance
