DEDICATION

T he word is unselfish. It comes aliv e in Brother Ivo. During his eight years at Good Counsel, he has given his valuable tim e and aid to anyone and any cause in need. He has played the part of “ the m an behind the scenes” in almost every facet of school life . With him , there is never an inactive m om ent. Ever since his arrival, Brother Ivo has kept the physical appearance of the school in the best possible shape. Any ill has rarely escaped his doctoring. T he awesome sight of Brother driving the tractor, gently caring for the flowers and plants, and p atien tly training our mascot isw ith o u ta d o u b ta classic at Good Counsel. W ithout neglecting this work, he has found tim e to guide th e freshman football team to m any successful seasons, thus establishing the foundation for our junior-varsity and varsity winners. In addition to these activities, Brother has always helped any organization w hich needed assistance. The Dram a Club, th e Student A ctivities Council, and other extracurricular organizations have benefited from his willingness to solve their tech n ical problem s - and such jobs have frequently been done w ith little or no thanks. Perhaps Brother’s greatest accom plishm ent has been in th e classroom. His sense of humor, com bined w ith his no-nonsense teaching habits, makes a year in his class not only a profitable but also an unforgettable experience. “ T he m an behind th e scenes” rarely receives n o tice and thanks. Therefore, in order to begin to express our gratitude for his unselfish efforts, we, th e Class of 1969, d ed icate this book to a real Christian gentlem an.

Jo seph's in S o m m e rv ille , M assachusetts in 1921. T h re e years la te r h e m oved to S t. M ary ’s In dustrial S chool in B a ltim o re , w here h e ta u g h t for tw e n ty -fo u r y e ars. From th e re h e w e n t to S t. Joseph's Prep in Bardstow n, K entucky and ta u g h t th e re u n til his re tire m e n t from a c tiv e te a c h in g in 1962. Prior to h is a rriv a l a t Good C ounsel, Brother liv e d a t Don Bosco H a ll in D e tro it, M ic h ig a n . His fello w ju b ila ria n , Brother C h a rle s, professed h is fin a l vows in 1929 and re c e iv e d h is B achelor o f Arts d eg ree in 1932 from th e U niversity of N otre D a m e . H e has ta u g h t p rim a rily in W est V irg in ia and K en tu c k y , h is n a tiv e s ta te , and h as served in th e c a p a c ity o f p rin c ip a l a t schools in B rooklyn, New Y ork, and M a ld e n , M assachusetts. W ith his fa m ilia r "H i, P a l ! , " h e h as g re e te d e v e ry stu d en t who h as a tte n d e d Good C ounsel since its opening in 1958. EPILOGUE In the tim e of your life, live - so th at in that good tim e there shall be no ugliness or death for yourself or for any life your life touches. Seek goodness everywhere, and when it is found, bring it out of its hiding p la ce and le t it b e free and unasham ed. P lace in m atter and in flesh th e least of the values, for these are the things that hold death and must pass away. Discover in a ll things th at w hich shines and is beyond corruption. Encourage virtue in w hatever heart it may have been driven into secrecy and sorrow by the sham e and terror of the world. Ignore the obvious, for it is un worthy of the clear eye and th e kindly h eart. Be the inferior of no m an, nor of any m an be the superior. Remember th at every man is a variation of yourself. No m an’s guilt is not yours, nor is any m an’s innocence a thing apart. Despise ev il and un godliness, but not m en of ungoldliness or evil. These, understand.
