AHA to celebrate 2021 Sweethearts

About the cover:

Sweetheart Kelly Willis won the honor of being featured on our cover for raising the most money during the 2021 Sweetheart Program. She is a Bishop McGuinness student and the daughter of Barbara and Brett Willis.

On Friday, June 18 at 7:30 p.m., the American Heart Association is celebrating its Sweetheart Ambassadors at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. A presentation and reception is set to com memorate the Sweetheart Class of 2021. Sweetheart Ambassadors are a group of high school girls who raise funds and awareness for the American Heart Association. The money they raise goes to educational efforts and research. This year, the young women put together 300 bravery bags which are an initiative of Mended Little Hearts Inc. The organization supports families affected by heart disease. In addition, the girls decorated wooden lily pad seats, which attach to IV poles for children. These special seats were donated to Integris Health. Due to COVID19, the inperson gala did not occur. Thus, the Sweetheart Ambassador program was aired on KOCO in April. “Cardiovascular disease and stroke are the No. 1 and No. 5 killers of people in in the United States,” Cyd King, the media contact at the American Heart Association, said. The Sweetheart Ambassadors work as mentors for a healthier lifestyle. They encourage people to make small changes so that they can enjoy more fulfilling futures for generations to come.

THE CENTENNIAL HOUSE Historic property is 2021 Symphony Show House

This large living room is one of several sitting areas in the Centennial House.

The Centennial House, this year’s OKCPHIL Orchestra League Show House was built in 1935 and is a two-story home sitting on 1 1/2 acres near the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. The Centennial House is located at 6700 N Kelley Ave. This almost 8,000square-foot home was decorated by local designers. Walking through the house is like walking in the pages of a magazine. Designers played off the architectural details of the structure to create a warm and inviting home. Honorary chairmen are First Lady Sarah Stitt and Debbie Thompson. J. Mark Taylor is the Show House chairman.

A place to lay your head Symphony Show House designers have created a comfortable, yet luxurious feel in each of the three bedrooms. In the primary suite, below left, they matched the wood of the crown molding to the furniture for a flawless design. Designers incorporated a lodge theme into the third floor bedroom, below left. The pinks and creams in the bedroom below make this space a true haven.

Governor Kevin Stitt and his family actually lived in the house while renovations were underway at the Governor’s Mansion. The Show House is set to be open from June 12-27, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Tickets are $15 in advance and are available on the OKCPHIL website, okcphil.org. Tickets are $20 at the door. For more information, contact the OKCPHIL at (405) 232-7575.

Designers whipped up some real magic in the spacious kitchen which boasts a vast amount of storage space. For more photos, see Pages 12 & 13.
