The first American museum survey since the artist’s death in 2016, "Beyond the Frame" reveals a singular artistic vision and a wide-ranging body of work nearly a half-century in the making, from his early children’s films and graphic design work to his immersive largescale photographs and installations of his 21st Century video art. This exhibition features the

world premiere of the complete "Regardezmoi" portfolio, Kiarostami’s series of photographs depicting visitors to the Louvre and other museums. In conjunction with the exhibition, a comprehensive retrospective of his feature films will screen in the Noble Theater. Kiarostami’s films have won countless international prizes, including the Palme d’Or, and frequently appear in surveys of the greatest films of all time. “Art and Activism at Tougaloo College” Spring 2023 This exhibition features works of art from the collection of Tougaloo College, a historically Black college in Mississippi. Founded in 1869, Tougaloo College played a central role in the Civil Rights Movement and the fight for racial equality. In 1963, the college gained national attention when students and professors staged a sitin at Woolworth’s in Jackson. That same year, the college’s art collection was formed, making it the first modern art collection in the state of Mississippi. This exhibition features a number of works of art by major European artists of the 20th century, alongside significant American artists, including many important Black artists. Spending much of the second and fourth quarters playing catchup, the Crossings Christian boys basketball team rallied from seven points down at the start of the final period but it fell short as the Knights suffered a 39-36 loss to Kingfisher last Friday in the Class 4A semifinals at State Fair Arena. “We gave up way too many easy shots,” coach Shawn Schenk after the game. “I’m disappointed we didn’t defend better. (Kingfisher) is a good, wellbalanced team.” Both teams exchanged baskets in the opening minutes of the game, but Kingfisher outscored Crossings 8-2 into end the first quarter. The Knights (21-7) bounced back in the second quarter to lead 22-21 at halftime. “I was proud that our guys found a way to stay in the game,” Schenk said. “We got ourselves back into it.

Panthers pull away from Irish Holding a slim lead after four innings, the PC North baseball team plated 10 runs in the top of the fifth inning to pull away for an 18-6 victory against Fridayland rival McGuinness last week. Noah Ramirez batted 2-for-3, drove in three runs and scored twice to lead the Panthers (2-4). Seven others had at least two hits as PC North erupted for a season-best 18 hits in the game. Cyclones run to gold at Bethany Four Casady track athletes, along with two from John Marshall, won individual gold medals and the Cyclone girls took the team title at the Bethany Twilight last week. Shanta Ramdas dominated the middledistance races to claim three gold medals. Ramdas won the 400 meters in 1 minute, 2.62 seconds, the 800 meters in 2:28.10 and the 1600 meters in 5:50.74. Teammate Anna Ungvari finished second to Ramdas in the 800 and third in the 1600. Larry Mathis cruised to a 13-second victory over teammate Ashton Hale in the 1600 in 5:01.45 and blew the field away by over a minute to claim the 3200 in 10:06.78. Riley Dumigan edged the field by a tenth-second to win gold in the 100 meters in 12.71 seconds and leapt 15 feet, 7 inches to take the long jump title. Kyler Scoville rounded out the quartet with a more than half-second win in the 110 hurdles in 16.08 seconds just ahead of John Marshall’s Eric Threatt who also took third in the

long jump. John Marshall’s Jaime Richardson picked up a pair of gold medals with a nearly one second win in the 100 hurdles in 17.52 seconds and jumped 5-feet even to win the high jump. Dorien Middleton broke the tape less than a half-second head of the field in 24.54 seconds to claim gold in the 200 meters. Casady’s Helen Olszewski, Claire Anderson and Caroline Naifeh collected silver medals with secondplace finishes in the 200 meters, 300 hurdles and discus, respectively. In addition, Kyra Patel finished third in the long jump, Jia Baluja took fifth in the 3200 and Caroline Wood was fifth in the discus. John Marshall’s Elijah Goldsmith finished just five-hundredths of a second from a gold medal to settle for second in the 100 meters in 11.45 seconds, just ahead of teammate Middleton in fourth. ANTLER BOYS TAKE 2ND AT EDMOND Thanks to three individual gold medalists, the Deer Creek boys finished second and the girls were fourth at the Edmond Invitational. Jacob Sexton earned a pair of gold medals in the discus and shot put. The senior threw 145 feet, 8 inches in the discus and 48-5 in the shot put. Gilbert Velez ran to a 5-second win in the 3200 meters in 9:52.66 and Tyson Ritz collected a victory in the high jump with a winning leap of 6-4. Rachel Neaves also continued her domination in the discus and shot put with goldmedal throws of 154-11 and 38-8.25, respectively. In addition, the Antler boys cruised to a 9-second win in 8:10.28 to claim gold in the 4by-800 relay. Silver medalists included Sadie Wedge in the 3200 meters, A.J. Antonelli in the 200 meters and Jevion Jones in the long jump. Nya Davis and Tristan Smith also claimed third in the 100 meters and 300 hurdles, respectively.

Downtown Rotary Club 29 hosted a panel on the Oklahoma film industry this week. I was invited to be the host and moderator, so I recruited three friends who represent different aspects of the industry: Oscar winning producer Gray Frederickson, Boiling Point Media COO Emily Taylor, and Deputy Director of the Oklahoma Film + Music Office Jeannette Stanton. This year marks the 50th anniversary of The Godfather, which is considered by most critics and industry groups to be the best movie of all time. Oklahoma City native and Oklahoma Hall of Fame member Gray Frederickson helped produce that movie with Francis Ford Coppola. After the success of The Godfather, Frederickson became Coppola’s full time producing partner. Together, they created the classic films Apocalypse Now, The Outsiders, and The Godfather, Part 2, which won Frederickson the Academy Award for Best Picture. After a 30-year career producing movies in Los Angeles, Frederickson returned home to Oklahoma and founded the largest film and video program in Oklahoma at Oklahoma City Community Civic Center Music Hall: Madagascar Musical ­ Bob Dylan ­ Other Events/Shows/Awards: Future Voices Ballet ­ Brave Ball ­ Distant Thunder ­ Ballet Ball: The Golden Age ­

College. The digital cinema program at OCCC has educated more people in the film industry than all of the other Oklahoma film programs combined. It is estimated that 60-70% of crew members working on productions in Oklahoma attended class or a workshop at OCCC. Emily Taylor is the Owner, Executive Producer, and Chief Operating Officer for Boiling Point Media, a full-service film production company, marketing and advertising agency. Boiling Point specializes in family friendly, special effects driven movies that play in theaters and on the Disney Channel. Boiling Point gained international recognition for their 2013 movie Army of Frankensteins, directed by Ryan Bellgardt. Since then, they have enjoyed great success for their original movies like Jurassic Games, Dinosaur World, and Ghoster. And, they have become one of the most sought-after visual effects companies in the world, providing special effects

for 16 current movies from the USA, China, and France. With four original films recently released by Lionsgate and another four films on the horizon, Boiling Point is the most successful film studio based in Oklahoma. University of Oklahoma graduate Jeanette Stanton has served as Deputy Director of the Oklahoma Film + Music Office since 2014. Through her work with OF+MO, Stanton oversees and administers the new $30 million film and television rebate program passed into law as the Film in Oklahoma Act of 2021. During her tenure at the OF+MO, Stanton has witnessed the extreme growth of the film industry. When she started in 2014, there were four films utilizing the film rebate program. In 2021, despite the pandemic, production expenditures in Oklahoma reached $170.4 million, up from $32.6 million in the previous year. The Film in Oklahoma Act of 2021 is taking film production in Oklahoma to new heights. More than 81 productions applied to film in Oklahoma this year. Automobile Alley continues tradition with 24 years of Chocolate Decadence The Automobile Alley Association extends an invitation to the 24th annual Chocolate Decadence, after pressing pause on the party in 2021. Tickets are on sale at AutomobileAlley.org for the event Thursday, April 7, at Leadership Square, 211 N Robinson Ave. Chocolate Decadence attendees will experience an evening of sweet and savory chocolate dishes from OKC’s best restaurants, gourmet coffee, wine, champagne, beer, live music and more. All proceeds benefit the Automobile Alley Association, which promotes local businesses, awards grants and sponsorships, activates and programs the district with events, placemaking, art and light displays, cleans and maintains district streets and sidewalks and advocates on behalf of area stakeholders.

Tony Foster Jr. and his band will be entertaining the crowd with jazz standards and today’s hits as attendees appraise the various ways to support Automobile Alley. Silent auctions and raffles will feature an array of items such as staycation packages, tickets to local attractions, gift baskets, gift certificates and opportunities to bid on one-of-a-kind experiences from OKC restaurants and businesses. In addition to tasting dishes from some of the city’s premier restaurants, guests will be able to quench their thirst with wine and bubbles provided by George’s Liquors and craft beer tastings from three of Automobile Alley’s breweries. In 2021, the district installed 30 security lights in the alleyways east and west of Broadway Ave., held the inaugural Art of Beer event and

launched a public art initiative with Automobile Alley’s Door Tour. Automobile Alley is set for another year of growth with plans for the mixed-use redevelopment project, Nova, on Sixth Street and new construction townhomes on Seventh Street already underway. The recently restored building at 801 N Broadway Ave. will begin hosting events this summer in the Amelia Building and Luxury Event Hall. Broadway Ave. is also getting a makeover. The City of OKC and Automobile Alley have been working closely with engineers on plans for street enhancements that will make the district safer for everyone. “We were thrilled to have the OKC community supporting local Automobile Alley shops and restaurants throughout the last two years,” said

Traci Walton of Plenty Mercantile, who is also the past Automobile Alley Board Chair. “In 2022, the community is still finding its favorite food, art and shopping in Automobile Alley. We’re excited to celebrate our district at Chocolate Decadence!” General admission tickets are $75 and include food and drink. VIP tickets are $125 and include early entry at 6 pm, tickets to use at the cash bar and complimentary valet. All tickets must be purchased in advance at AutomobileAlley.org. The next day, they played pickleball at Chicken and Pickle, and they gathered at a court dinner Wednesday night. As the week came to a close, they met for pictures before school and prepared for the final

event: the crowning at the basketball game Friday night. Graham Tawwater, scored his 1,000th career point during the second half of the homecoming basketball game. Tawwater set a goal for himself as a freshman. “When that 1,000th point went through the net, it felt like a weight dropped off my shoulders,” Tawwater said. “Now, I can just play basketball and win games.”

rowth is described in dictionaries with words like develop, increase, thrive, flourish, upward. In practical terms, think of growth as striving to do, and get, better. To improve! In these times of argumentation, growth has become politically controversial. Business and eco-

nomic interests have quit using "business friendly” and switched to "progrowth” Good growth helps all. I agree wholeheartedly that we need legislators, and government, that are pro-growth (interpreted ‘good’ growth, specifically economic growth). Favoring good growth is admirable.

Growth in knowledge, growth in tolerance, growth in compassion, growth in wisdom, growth in enterprise, growth in kindness, growth in spirit. Growth in the economy helps everybody. More jobs, more opportunity, more philanthropy, less poverty, less suffering, less going to bed hungry. Strangely, there are

folks who disagree. To some, any and all change is bad. They claim to like the status quo. Don’t change. Continue to tolerate hunger, joblessness, low living standards and ignorance for many. One of the best good growths is job growth. More jobs being available, helps everybody in general society. That’s why all the

effort to get government more attuned to job growth is so important. There are things government can do to encourage job growth and other things they can do to stop hindrance to job growth. Oklahoma government has done some good things to encourage the job creators. Our state’s Quality Jobs incentive law is one of those. Right to work is another. Our state technical education program is a major plus to assist job creators. Comparatively low property

taxes help. But to stay competitive with other states in getting more jobs created here, there are changes that can, and should, be made. A couple of those would be meaningful lawsuit and workers compensation reforms, and lower personal income taxes. There are two things average citizens can do to help gain better economic growth. Make campaign gifts to progrowth candidates and, if unable to do that, be sure to vote for pro-growth candidates.

Assistant DA Merydith Easter announces candidacy for district judge Oklahoma County Assistant District Attorney Merydith Easter announced today that she will file to seek the District 7 Office 3 District Judge seat – the seat currently occupied by incumbent Amy Palumbo. “As an Assistant District Attorney for the last ten years, I have tried difficult cases in front of various district judges. I have chosen to run for this particular seat to preserve the integrity of

the judiciary. As a district judge, I pledge to bring impartiality and consistency regardless of a person’s social status, a solid understanding of the law, and integrity where it has been lacking. I am running because Oklahoma County deserves better,” Easter said. Merydith Easter’s Oklahoma roots run deep, as do her public service and dedication to justice. Easter is a lifelong Oklahoman

whose family has been here since before statehood. Easter is a graduate of the University of Central Oklahoma and the University of Oklahoma School of Law. Easter grew up the middle of three girls in Yukon. Her father is a retired judge and her mother a retired publicschool teacher. Throughout her tenure in the DA’s Office, Merydith has been assigned to prosecute cases in the diversion courts, domes-

tic violence cases, violent felonies, drug cases, and high-profile murders. Merydith spent the last seven years prosecuting cases involving the physical and sexual abuse of children as well as sex crimes against adults. Recently, Easter was named the supervisor of the Domestic Violence Team within the DA’s Office. “I have been honored to serve my community as an Assistant District Attorney, but I know I

can better serve as an impartial and independent judge. That is what justice requires and what the citizens of Oklahoma County deserve,” Easter concluded. The group toured the Oklahoma History Center, the newly renovated state Capitol, and met with Gov. Kevin Stitt and Treat. The pages participated in a mock legislative committee meeting along with a floor session, called Pageville, where they got first-hand experience presenting and debating current bills from this legislative session.

Crossing Christian High School senior, Luke Warmington, serves as a page for the Senate during the fourth week of the legislative session.

Warmington is active in wrestling, golf, soccer, and National Honor Society. He enjoys hunting, fishing, sports, and politics. After high school,
