Editor’s Letter Dear OQHA Members, As I think back on the past year, I am overwhelmed by the momentum that this association has generated, and is set up to continue into 2026. As we all prepare for a big year of innovation, growth, and new beginnings, we will always keep in mind the roots of the Ohio Quarter Horse Association and the All American Quarter Horse Congress, and what it means to so many people and the industry as a whole. One of my favorite quotes from American computer scientist, mathematician, and US Navy Rear Admiral Grace Hopper states, “The most dangerous phrase in the English language is, ‘we have always done it this way’.” OQHA is known for raising the bar and shaking things up, and I believe as we move into the new year, this will become a guiding phrase for our decision-making, as we strive to make positive changes for our members, exhibitors, sponsors, vendors, and spectators. 2026 will be a year of innovation and change, but also will maintain a focus on honoring the tradition of both OQHA and the Congress, especially as we approach our 60th year of the world’s largest horse show in 2027. As you prepare your resolutions and set your goals, always remember to aim high, because you never know what will be possible without trying! And as we welcome a new year and all its challenges, let us not forget what drives us to do what we do: the love of the American Quarter Horse. All the Best,

The 2025 All American Quarter Horse Congress was yet another powerful reminder of who we are and what makes this Association so special. From first-time exhibitors to world-class competitors, from families who have been with us for generations to those just discovering the Quarter Horse industry – the Congress reflected the heart, grit, and passion that defines OQHA even with unprecedented growth, ongoing changes, and challenges. But our story does not begin or end in October. We now simply enter the foundation season, giving us time to reflect, reset, and recommit to our goals, our horses, and each other. It is the foundation for every ride, every class, and every moment that lies ahead, where young riders find their confidence, where seasoned competitors refine their vision, and where the future of OQHA and our industry quietly take shape. As we reflect on all that we have been able to accomplish, I also encourage you to look forward as well; stay engaged, stay connected, and keep building. Whether you are preparing for your first show season or setting your sights on another Congress title, you are a vital part of this Association and its future. I would like to proudly recognize the OQHA leadership team, Tri-Chairmen, Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, and state affiliates who work year-round – often behind the scenes – to keep our Association strong. Your dedication allows our members to thrive not only at the Congress, but throughout the entire year and ensures Ohio remains one of the most competitive states both in and out of the arena. Southern Belle Breeders A Pioneer in Stallion Incentive Programs The Southern Belle Breeders (SBB) program is a well-known gem of the Ohio Quarter Horse Association (OQHA) and the All American Quarter Horse Congress, and it is truly considered a pioneer in the stallion incentive fund circles. Founded in 2004 by Connie Hill of Jonesboro, Ark., the program was originally formed to compliment the futurity classes of Hill’s Southern Belle Invitation horse show, which began in 1994 as a futurity show in Tunica, Miss. OQHA’s own past president, Congress Tri-Chairman, and longtime director Chris Cecil Darnell joined Connie’s team in 2005, helping to manage the horse show and was then offered a year-round role overseeing the show and the newly-formed incentive program. But what was so ground-breaking about the Southern Belle Breeders program? The SBB program is special, because it not only pays the owners of winning eligible futurity horses, but also the owners of the stallions who sired those champions. Siring stallions of the winners receive 20% of the earnings of each class’s placings, establishing SBB as a pioneer in the industry. This makes the program appealing to both owners of futurity horses and also the stallion owners. But what about the mare owners? Well, the SBB program operates by selling 50% off breedings to the stallions. This means that mare owners can purchase a breeding at a discount, making the foal more valuable, while also making the stallion and all his offspring eligible for SBB classes for that year. The SBB program also operates a little differently than other programs, in that a stallion’s donated breeding must be purchased each year in order to maintain his place in the program, and keep his offspring eligible. This means that owners of foals do not pay a fee or deal with the hassle of nominating their futurity prospects. PC: Shane Rux Photography

As the SBB program took hold at the Southern Belle Invitation, Hill and Darnell began to expand the program to include other events, such as the Sun Circuit, Tom Powers Triple Challenge, Big A, Reichert Celebration, Sudden Impulse Futurity, All American Quarter Horse Congress, and the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) World Show. As the sire roster grew and more double-registered stallions joined, the program also began to include classes at the American Paint Horse Association (APHA) World Show.

In 2012, when Hill decided to retire from managing the Southern Belle horse show, she felt it crucial to continue the incentive program and its legacy. So, the program transferred ownership to OQHA, due to the deep connection to Chris Darnell, who had helped the program to its status, and who was serving as OQHA President at that time. Hill’s biggest goal was to have her beloved program be remembered.

Program management transitioned to OQHA, and has since seen remarkable growth in the industry, offering classes at the Congress, the AQHA World Show, and the APHA World Show. The Southern Belle Breeders program continues to see new and upcoming stallions join its ranks, while maintaining a list of industry leaders. The future of the program is bright, with the potential to expand into new disciplines as the showing world grows. 2025 CONGRESS: CONTINUING THE FORWARD MOMENTUM The 58th All American Quarter Horse Congress kicked off on September 27; earlier than ever before. With 11 days of reining and ranch, 2 full days of roping and YEDA competition, and then 17 days of general horse show classes and speed events, the Congress was a record-breaking 30 days long this year. The continuation of the Expo 2050 project presented unique challenges in 2025, as the new buildings and common areas began to take shape. The historic Congress Midway also saw changes as the traditional layout received a makeover that included more space down the center. The Ohio Quarter Horse Association rose to the challenge, providing solutions that maintained the iconic experience that visitors, exhibitors, and vendors expect, while also producing enhancements that are here to stay. Another exciting addition to the Congress was the introduction of Rescue Row, proudly sponsored by PulseVet and Zomedica. Operating the same hours and in the same location as the beloved Puppy Alley, Rescue Row provided an option for people to connect with Ohio dog and cat rescues to find their new furry family member. The event saw over 50 adoptions in its first year!

The Congress also teamed up with longtime corporate partner Richwood Bank to introduce the Congress Ca$h: $1K A Day Giveaway. This event provided $1,000 cash to one lucky exhibitor showing each and every day of the Congress, totaling $30,000. Congratulations to all of this year’s winners! As the Congress and OQHA move into the new year, the excitement is rising for the completion of the Expo 2050 project and the addition of the new buildings to the event. The most exciting of the changes is the introduction of the Multi-Purpose Agricultural Building, which will be located on the site of the old Buckeye Barn and will feature 500 stalls. Since its inception in 1967, the Ohio Expo Center (OEC) has been the longstanding home of the All American Quarter Horse Congress and continues to be a key partner in the event. The Ohio Quarter Horse Association Board of Directors, Congress Tri-Chairmen, and staff are excited to collaborate with the Ohio Expositions Commission and OEC staff to enhance the facility for our exhibitors, vendors, spectators, and guests. Major Events The ultimate reining weekend began with the Freestyle Reining on Friday, October 3 in the VS Code Red Coliseum. Presented by long-time sponsor and corporate partner dac Vitamins & Minerals, this event is always fan favorite. Speaking of fan favorite, the Congress was proud to partner with the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) to provide an AQHA Fan Favorite Award, voted on by the public. This year, the winner was Keith Ceddia and Shine Rain Or Shine, owned by Vincenzo Fasone of Columbus, Ohio! Winning both the Open and Non Pro Freestyle Reining for 2025 was Taylor Roeder and Custom Nite. Debuting a captivating Wednesday Adams routine, Taylor and Custom Nite wowed both the audience and the judges, scoring an impressive 232 and earning $5,135 in the open division and $1,005 in the non pro division. Custom Nite is a 2018 gelding sired by Gunners Special Nite and out of Custom Made DunIt, owned by Warnimont Performance Horses of Jackson, Ohio.

The following day, Saturday, October 4, hosted the NRHA Level 3 and 4 Open Reining Futurity finals. With over $275,000 in purse money, this event awarded $100,000 to the L4 champion alone. New for 2025, the finals expanded the number of riders accepted to 30 from the Level 3 and 30 from the Level 4, for an impressive roster of 60 incredible riders and horses. Taking home the Level 3 title and $18,159 was MMB SpookOfMyDreams, shown by Cira Baeck for owner The Loyal Wolf Ranch of Collinsville, Texas. MMB SpookOfMyDreams is a 2022 stallion sired by Spooks Gotta Gun and out of MMB ShineYourDreams. He was nominated to the All Star program by Jeronimo Leal Lobo. Winning the Level 4 Futurity and a staggering $100,000 was Gunners Smokin Chex, shown by Andrea Fappani for owners Clark Reining Horses LLC and Tim J. Anderson. Gunners Smokin Chex is a 2022 stallion sired by Colonels Smoking Gun and out of Chexanicki. He was nominated to the All Star program by Clark Reining Horses. Once again, All American Quarter Horse Congress and All Star Reining Stakes teamed up, bringing 2 majors to 1 location. The Congress now hosts both the All Star futurity and derby stakes programs, with the futurity running concurrently with the existing Congress NRHA futurity, and the derby running alongside the ancillary open and non-pro classes. This partnership was a natural fit and offered sponsors, trainers, exhibitors, and owners the chance to compete for more purse at one location, and OQHA is proud to announce that the partnership has been extended through 2030!

The Congress PBR took center stage on Friday, October 10, with corporate partner Western Edge proudly returning as the event’s presenting sponsor. Congratulations to the champion, Wyatt Rogers, who claimed the top prize of $10,000! This year’s event also continued a special tribute during the opening ceremonies, as the Congress Heroes on Horses exhibitors carried the American flag to honor their service and highlight the Heroes program. These dedicated competitors had already showcased their skills earlier in the day, in a featured event supported by title sponsor Angela Wade, along with supporting sponsors Tribute Superior Equine Nutrition and the Janis Family. Happening Friday morning, the annual Heroes Breakfast event featured a multitude of special guests to welcome and honor our veterans, including candidate for Ohio governor Vivek Ramaswamy, Ohio Department of Agriculture Director Brian Baldridge, and Texas Department of Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller, as well as National Snaffle Bit Association Executive Director Stephanie Lynn and OQHA CEO Justin Billings. Each exhibitor was recognized for their branch of service onstage, and received a proclamation from the Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose.

The Heroes on Horses saw a record number of participants this year, and the association looks forward to continuing that growth in the future!

That same Friday, the 2025 All American Quarter Horse Congress Queen was crowned in the Congress Marketplace. Congratulations to the new queen, Miss Ashlyn Gonzalves from South Carolina Quarter Horse Association! Read more about Ashlyn on page 39. Your 2025 Congress Queen 1st Runner Up was Mateer Strong, representing Iowa Quarter Horse Association; 2nd Runner Up was Ashton Snow, representing Southern Ohio Quarter Horse Association; and Miss Congeniality was awarded to Samantha Harvey, from Keystone Quarter Horse Association.

The Congress Super Sale is always a must-see event for the show, with three great sessions to create one spectacular sale. Held Saturday, October 18, the Super Sale packed the Lausche Building and featured a record 120 hip numbers. With over $1.4 million in sales, this year’s Super Sale saw 86 yearlings sustained for the 2026 Super Sale Stakes classes. Congratulations to the high seller, Ring Of Fiire, a 2024 AQHA/APHA gelding sired by Fiire N Ice and out of KM SumthinToTalkBout (RL Best Of Sudden), consigned by Caplinger Quarter Horses.

A Royal Visit to Nationwide Children’s Hospital For the first time, the Congress Queens Contest brought some royal magic to the kids of Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Led by 2024 Congress Queen Madi Heilveil, the candidates for the 2025 contest took an afternoon to visit with the children of Nationwide, sharing friendship bracelets, taking photos, and helping the kids adopt their very own stuffed Quarter Horses. OQHA and the Congress would like to thank Nationwide Children’s Hospital and Nationwide Children’s Hospital Foundation for making this opportunity possible, and look forward to continuing this tradition in the coming years.

Cabinet Meeting at the Congress The Congress was honored to host Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and his entire cabinet, for the first time in history. In addition to regular agenda items, the cabinet meeting also heard remarks about Congress, the impact of the show and the equine industry on the state, and its reach outside of the show arena from Ohio Department of Agriculture Director Brian Baldridge, OQHA President Kelli Diaz, and Ohio Quarter Horse Youth Association (OQHYA) President and American Quarter Horse Youth Association (AQHYA) Regional Director Colton Smith. OQHA and the Congress were proud to also present Governor DeWine with an honorary Congress Bronze.

The OQHA team then provided a tour of the elaborate stall set-ups in the Gilligan Barn, visiting with some professional horsemen, before continuing to Congress Hall, where the Governor and his cabinet were able to speak with vendors about the impact of the Congress on both their businesses and the Ohio economy. Connecting to Columbus The Congress has called Columbus home for all its 58 years and is proud to continue to do so. The OQHA team was excited to welcome a multitude of Columbus city and Ohio state officials to this year’s event, including Columbus Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Derrick Clay, State Senator Michele Reynolds, State Senator Bill DeMora, candidate for Ohio Treasurer and previous State Representative Jay Edwards, and Columbus City Council President Shannon Hardin and his family.

Congress Special Awards Champion of the Congress Award The All American Quarter Horse Congress and OQHA seeks to recognize and honor individuals who have left a lasting impact on the Congress and the Quarter Horse industry. The Champion of the Congress Award celebrates partners of the event and the Ohio Quarter Horse Association, and their support of the mission of both the Association and the event itself. This year, the Congress awarded this honor to Tribute Superior Equine Nutrition, the Official Feed of the All American Quarter Horse Congress, and their president, Paul Kalmbach Jr. For more than 60 years, Kalmbach Feeds has been a family-owned Ohio company dedicated to producing the highest-quality animal nutrition. Founded in 1963 by Paul Kalmbach Sr. and proudly based in Upper Sandusky, the company has grown into one of the most trusted names in feed manufacturing - serving farmers, ranchers, and horse owners across the country. Under the leadership of Paul Kalmbach Jr., the company has continued to thrive, combining cutting-edge research and innovative technology with the same family values and commitment to excellence that built its foundation. Friend of the Congress Award The Friend of the Congress Award is a prestigious recognition presented to individuals who have demonstrated unwavering commitment, dedication, and support to both the Congress and the Quarter Horse industry. This year, the Congress awarded this honor to Jerry & Penny Robinson and Bobby Smith. Jerry’s love of horses started early - his mother used to say he “learned to read by studying the classified ads.” As a young man, he’d send away for sale catalogs and memorize bloodlines. By 15, he had his first truck, and soon after made a deal with AQHA judge Stretch Bradley for a trailer - ready to haul to the shows. Penny first spotted him at a Labor Day show back in 1961, where Jerry was watching the winners - the polished horses, starched shirts, big rigs - and deciding that one day, he’d be right there among them. Together, they built J.L. Robinson Quarter Horses, in partnership with Dewey Smith Quarter Horses, a respected program known for breeding and showing some of the finest halter and performance horses in the industry. Their stallions - including PF Premo, FG Born Legacy, and World Champion HippiesAndKowboys - reflect decades of dedication, integrity, and a true eye for quality. Jerry has attended every Quarter Horse Congress from the first year through the 50th - a record of loyalty few can match. And one of his proudest moments? Being named the Grand Champion Stallion at the 50th Anniversary with PF Premo. Beyond the show ring, the Robinsons have given back to their community and the industry - from mentoring horsemen across the country to helping establish Discovery Riders, an equine therapy program in Logan County, Ohio.

Friend of the Congress Award For 50 remarkable years, Bobby Smith of Rod Patrick Bootmakers has attended the All American Quarter Horse Congress year after year, showing up not just as a vendor or industry participant, but as a steadfast friend, mentor, and a fixture of our family. From that first Congress in the 1970s to now, Bobby has been there: offering expertise, lending a hand, fostering relationships, and supporting the mission of the Ohio Quarter Horse Association and the Congress with unwavering generosity. Beyond titles, sales, and exhibitions, Bobby has always been about family - the Congress family. He attends the show, not just to do business, but because he cares about the people. As he put himself: “This is where I get to see members of my horse family that I do not see throughout the year.” He is someone OQHA and the Congress can rely on whenever needed. Five decades of attendance: that kind of loyalty, that kind of commitment, speaks volumes in an industry built on relationships, trust, and kindness. He is more than a vendor, he is part of the heart and soul of the Congress; a true member of the Quarter Horse Congress family.

Special Recognition The Congress also took time to honor two people who have dedicated their lives to the Ohio Quarter Horse Association and the Congress - Dan and Darlene Trein. For decades, Dan and Darlene have operated Trein Training Center in Seville, Ohio - shaping riders, horses, and character with patience, professionalism, and heart. Dan, an AQHA judge, Professional Horseman, and past AQHA Professional of the Year, and Darlene, his steadfast partner and icon in her own right, have mentored countless youth and amateurs, whose success stories trace back to their barn. Beyond their training careers, they’ve given deeply to OQHA - serving on committees, volunteering at every level, and helping make the Congress the world-class event it is today. Now, as they close this remarkable chapter and move to Pavo, Georgia, to be near the Parrish family and their beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, we celebrate all they have built - and the countless lives they’ve touched along the way.

Congress Hall of Fame The Congress is the world’s largest horse show, with hundreds of thousands of people traveling from all around the world each year to Columbus. Without the dedication and hard work of a few individuals, the legendary status of the Congress would not be possible. Thus, the All American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame was initiated in 1987 to recognize these individuals. Here are the 2025 inductees, honored on Saturday, October 18: Bob Geesaman, from Centerville, Ohio, began his journey with the All American Quarter Horse Congress in 1971, working in the press room. Over the years, he took on many roles - coordinating the lectures and demonstrations series, serving as ring steward and later head ring steward. His leadership and steady hand led him to become Assistant Show Manager under Denny Hales, and eventually Show Ohio Quarter Horse News 35

Manager for the entire event - a role he continues to hold today. Through more than five decades, Bob has been instrumental in keeping the Congress running smoothly day after day. He knows every corner, every challenge, and every success story of the show - because he has lived it. The Congress also played a special role in his personal life. Bob met his wife, Molly, right here in the press room - and in true Congress fashion, they were married here in 1989. Together, they have three children and six grandchildren, many of whom have shared in the Congress experience over the years.

Lisa Martin, from Richwood, Ohio, retired from the Ohio Quarter Horse Association in 2021, after devoting 34 years of her career to the association. Lisa was present through so many major milestones, from the use of computers beginning in 1988, to the addition of the Celeste Center in 1990, the addition of the Adequan Barn in 2015, and was instrumental in the move of the OQHA headquarters from Richwood to Columbus. Lisa was a staple of the OQHA and Congress team, and was part of the group that grew the show from its original few days span to the month long event we now know. Lisa managed the Trade Show, Sponsorships, and Awards programs, but her contributions extended far beyond those titles. She became the warm, welcoming presence that exhibitors, spectators, and vendors alike came to associate with the Congress - the person who made everyone feel at home here. Lisa and her husband have 1 daughter and 5 grandchildren. The Congress and OQHA are proud to induct Lisa into the Hall of Fame!

2026 All American Quarter Horse Congress Queen

Ashlyn Gonzalves

Ashlyn Gonzalves is from Wilmington, North Carolina, and the daughter of Robyn Mitchell and the late Eugene Gonzalves. Ashlyn’s journey in the equine world began at the age of 11, when she first started competing in all-around events. What began as a childhood passion quickly evolved into a lifelong pursuit. Over the years, she achieved recognition at major events including the AQHYA World Show and the National Youth Activity Team Tournament (NYATT). Outside of the show pen, Ashlyn served as director, treasurer, and eventually vice president of her state youth association. These roles allowed her to attend the AQHYA Youth Excellence Seminar (YES Conference), which allowed her to develop lifelong friendships and strong leadership skills. Today, AQHA remains a cornerstone of her life. She now breeds her childhood show horse and is breaking the foals herself. In addition to her AQHA involvement, Ashlyn was also involved in 4H, FFA, and competed with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s IHSA equestrian team. Her experience also extended to other breeds, including gentling a wild mustang from Nevada and rehabilitating a displaced off-the-track thoroughbred. Beyond competition, Ashlyn is deeply committed to giving back to the equine community. She is a long-time volunteer with the therapeutic riding program Bright Star Stables and a certified Special Olympics coach. Ashlyn has dedicated the last four years to assisting with the Equestrians with Disabilities Division at the All American Quarter Horse Congress. Outside of horses, Ashlyn is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a bachelor’s degree in biology. During this time, she contributed to research on the link between environmental exposure and the rise of peanut allergies in children. Currently, she works as a nursing assistant in the hospital’s float pool during her gap year before pursuing medical school. Ashlyn notes that her favorite part of her job is the diversity of her patients; one day she may be caring for a newborn, and the next for an elderly patient. While Ashlyn is still open to specialties, she is particularly interested in becoming an anesthesiologist. Ashlyn knew that she wanted to find other ways to serve her equine community, which led her to take time off from school and compete and ultimately earn the title of South Carolina Quarter Horse Association Queen. After winning the title in May, she quickly shifted her focus to preparing for the All American Quarter Horse Congress Queen contest. Over the next four months, she devoted herself to studying the AQHA rulebook, refining her speaking skills, and balancing her hospital shifts—all while sending in her applications to medical school. Now, as the 2025 All American Quarter Horse Congress Queen, Ashlyn looks forward to an incredible year representing the industry she loves. She is eager to travel across the country and share her passion for the American Quarter Horse. Whether she’s presenting awards, attending events, or cheering from the rail, Ashlyn hopes to inspire others to pursue their goals with dedication and heart. She is deeply honored to serve as an ambassador for AQHA and is excited for all the opportunities this year will bring.

Queen’s Letter Serving as the Ohio Quarter Horse Association Queen this year has been one of the most meaningful and unforgettable experiences of my life. From the countless miles travelled to the friendships formed and the memories made, every moment reminded me of what a privilege it is to represent an organization and an industry I love so deeply. As I look back on the past year, I am filled with gratitude for the people, places, and horses that made this journey so special. Throughout the year, I had the honor of attending major shows across the state, including Level 1 East, The Madness, the Little Buckeye, and other OQHA and AQHA events. Each show offered something unique. At some, I spent the day cheering on exhibitors from the rail; at others, I had conversations with trainers, families, and youth competitors about their goals and their love for the Quarter Horse. One of the most memorable events was the OAQHA Little Buckeye. The hospitality at that show was warm and genuine, and I felt truly welcomed by everyone I met. There is a special sense of community within the Ohio horse show world, and being able to experience that from a queen’s perspective made it even more meaningful.

My year concluded in the most fitting way possible: Queen Week at the All American Quarter Horse Congress. The week began with orientation and our traditional pizza party and gift exchange, where the excitement in the room was contagious. From that first evening, it was clear that this week would be something I would remember for the rest of my life. Thanks to our generous sponsors—including Durango Boots, Virtue Soap, Montana Silversmiths, CINCH, MarkWest, Big Dee’s Tack & Vet Supplies, and many others—we began the week with thoughtful gifts and a strong sense of appreciation for the people who support the queen program year after year.

The days that followed were full, busy, and incredibly rewarding. We took vendor photos throughout the Congress Marketplace, visited Nationwide Children’s Hospital to share smiles and kindness with some very special kids, and spent an evening creating custom hats at All That Show Clothing. One morning began long before sunrise with a live news appearance, followed by interviews with the judges and a denim photoshoot with MarkWest. We also had the chance to explore Columbus together, creating memories that were just as meaningful as the formal parts of the competition.

One of the experiences I looked forward to most was Queen’s Horsemanship. I was honored to ride “Hez a Crowd Pleaser,” aka Rowdy, generously provided by Karmon Dorsey and her family, with guidance from Lee Quarter Horses. It was a moment that reminded me of why I fell in love with this sport in the first place—the connection between rider and horse, the quiet focus of the arena, and the joy of being part of something bigger than yourself. As the week came to an end, we took a trip to the Columbus Zoo to relax and enjoy the simple fun of being together before the crowning ceremony.

The crowning ceremony itself was emotional and inspiring. Standing among so many talented, driven young women who share the same passion for the American Quarter Horse was an honor I will never forget. Whether we were laughing in the halls, sharing show-ring nerves, or encouraging one another through interviews, the bonds formed during Queen Week were genuine and lasting. It was the perfect closing chapter to my year as OQHA Queen. As I reflect on everything this year has given me, I am overwhelmed with gratitude. I am thankful to the OQHA, AQHA, the Queen Team, our sponsors, my family, and everyone who offered encouragement, advice, or a friendly smile along the way. Representing Ohio as the 2025 OQHA Queen has been one of the greatest honors of my life, and I will carry the lessons, memories, and friendships from this year with me forever. Love your 2025 Queen,

SIDNEY HAWK

EDUCATION : I am currently a senior at the University of Findlay, graduating May 2026, with a double major in Equine Business Management and Equestrian Studies with a western riding training emphasis and a Marketing minor. OCCUPATION: I am not currently working due to my class load, but in the spring I will be working as an intern at the University of Findlay Western farm, managing the herd and assisting underclassmen. The past two summers, I worked at Leeman Farms in Massillon, and I plan to return there this coming summer. Accomplishments:

- Deans List - All American Quarter Horse Congress 4x Top Five, 2x Top Ten, and Top 15 - YEDA National and Reserve National Champion in Diamond Reining - OQHA Mt Trail Challenge titles - 2x Champion Showman of Showmen at the Stark County Fair While in college, I was a member of the Western IHSA Team as an open rider, and I currently still participate with the team.

What makes you unique and sets you apart?

What sets me apart is my strong work ethic and genuine dedication to continuous learning. I am always willing to try new events, listen closely, and absorb as much knowledge as I can. I spend countless hours at the barn because this sport is truly my passion. I am committed to growing as a horsewoman and becoming more well-rounded within the industry. I am grateful for the incredible support system I have from my parents and those around me; I would not be where I am today without them. For the past few years, I have been showing my horse, TJ Smokin Silverado. I started him as a two-year-old and have personally trained him in reining and the ranch events. This past year I competed in my first futurity events with my three year old, “Perfect Trashy Girl”. Another one of my horses that I have started and trained myself with guidance from others. While NRHA shows have been my main circuit, I have also competed at several AQHA and OQHA events. The Ohio Quarter Horse Association will utilize electronic balloting for the 2026 Open, Amateur, and Youth elections. The use of Election Buddy gives OQHA the opportunity to streamline a process that previously required more time and expense for both the association and its members. Members will receive a link, associated with their OQHA membership, via email and text message, allowing members to choose their most convenient option. The automated system will only allow members to submit one ballot per OQHA membership number. OQHA must have a valid email and mobile number on file for each member in order for the system to function properly. In addition, many OQHA memberships are family memberships and only have one email and/or phone number on file. Each eligible family member is able to vote, however OQHA must provide Election Buddy with valid email and mobile numbers for each family member. Please contact the OQHA office to update your or your family’s contact information. If you do not receive a ballot, please contact the OQHA office to ensure your contact information is correct and up-to-date. Paper ballots are still an option, and available upon request for members who prefer that option. Look for your election ballot in your email inbox in early January. What do you bring to the Board that makes you unique from other directors or candidates?

Much of my expertise and perspective comes from having participated in and served this association in nearly every capacity. As a youth exhibitor, I competed in all-around events, where I learned the importance of strong horsemanship and sportsmanship. During my 19 years as a Director, I had the honor of watching my father — past President Skip Salome —dedicate his life to the Quarter Horse industry and witness the lasting impact of his service on OQHA. Later, I had the privilege of watching my own daughter grow up and show within the association, continuing our family’s legacy of involvement. When I assumed my father’s role as Congress Tri-Chairman five years ago, I was able to carry forward the same values and principles he so strongly believed in. Having experienced the association as an exhibitor, parent and leader, I truly understand OQHA from every perspective. How much time can you dedicate to any role you may be assigned at the Congress?

I am committed to dedicating whatever time is necessary to support the success of the Congress.

I am an officer at this time. As much as possible. Why do you want to be, or continue to be, an OQHA Board Director or Officer?

I would like to continue to serve the association.

I have trained and shown horses for over 50 years, and been involved with both the youth and amateurs.

I am the President of the Eastern Ohio Quarter Horse Association. I’ve been elected to the OQHA board for many years and it has allowed me to serve on most every committee; committee assignments vary from year to year as they are designated by the current president. I am also a past president so I have served in the capacity of a Tri-Chairman at the Congress and have seen it from the inside out. Committees adapt each year as growth with programs and events are constantly changing. No matter what committees or jobs I’ve been assigned, I’ve found it’s important to listen to the owners, the exhibitors, the vendors, and the workers as they are the ones affected by changes. I feel it’s my job to communicate any concerns or ideas back to the board so issues can be discussed and solutions made that are best for everyone.

How much time can you dedicate to any role you may be assigned at the Congress?

I’ve always been able to coordinate my real job as a professional horseman and still perform any duties asked of me. Why do you want to be, or continue to be, an OQHA Board Director or Officer?

OQHA is the largest and most respected quarter horse association in the world. To be able to contribute and be a part of its growth and legacy is a privilege and one that I’ll continue to support. Do you have long-term goals to eventually be an officer or serve in a leadership role with OQHA? If yes, please define those goals.

As I have already served and am currently serving in a leadership role I do wish to continue. What do you bring to the Board that makes you unique from other directors or candidates?

My ability to be impartial is my strongest card. I believe it is what has allowed me to perform in the capacities that I am elected to either by the membership or the board of directors.

Yes, I am a member of the Recreational Riding Committee for AQHA as well as the owner of Creekside Horse Park. How much time can you dedicate to any role you may be assigned at the Congress?

I run the full season of OQHA Mt Trail Challenges and the annual trail ride, which is my main contribution. I also help where I can at Congress. Why do you want to be, or continue to be, an OQHA Board Director or Officer?

Its a great association to be apart of; I have been apart of it for a long time. I really enjoy the program we have grown into, bringing opportunities to a large group of people that normally would not be members. It gives so much more back to the Quarter Horse riders that may not want to be in the show ring.

I run the annual OQHA Trail Ride and Trail Challenge, 2026 will be the 19th year of this event. I also assist with parking on move-in days at the Congress, and the NYATT Awards Ceremony, in addition to various tasks throughout. Do you have long-term goals to eventually be an officer or serve in a leadership role with OQHA? If yes, please define those goals.

Yes, I love being a director and hope to continue to be for years to come. I also hope to continue offering the great programs for trail riders, and keep improving them as we go.

What do you bring to the Board that makes you unique from other directors or candidates?

Most directors are not trail riders, so running the program that I do provides exposure to a whole new group of people that otherwise would never think of being an OQHA member. With this, it also encourages many to attend Congress and enjoy watching the shows along with all the shopping. Then many attend the annual banquet that would otherwise not think of attending if not part of the program I have put into place over the many years of running. It’s nice to reach a very large but different group of people that can play a big part of OQHA, but not be showing in the big circut like most others.

As I am at the Congress with clients from the start of the ranch events till the end with my all around clients. I have no problem dedicating time to help with my committees. I dedicate two full days for the roping alone. Why do you want to be, or continue to be, an OQHA Board Director or Officer?

I believe I bring a lot of knowledge of the whole horse industry and want to continue to share that. To help are association to grow and have continued success. Giving back to an industry that has given me so much.

What I bring to the OQHA Board that is unique is the combination of lifelong involvement, hands-on commitment, and professional expertise that bridges the equine industry with state and community leadership. My family has been part of OQHA for three generations — my grandfather served as president and is in the Hall of Fame, my mother currently serves as president, and I grew up learning every aspect of this association from a walk trot competitor to and through most Congress operations. In addition to competing in the all around events from the age of 5 to 18, I was also extremely involved with the governing bodies of the Ohio Quarter Horse Youth Association and American Quarter Horse Youth Association. I currently serve as Chair of the OQHA Public Policy Committee and as a member of the Annual Awards/Banquet Committee. I have had a broad range of responsibilities at the All American Quarter Horse Congress, serving on or assisting several Steering Committees: Animal Protection / Fire Safety Committee: Members of this committee regularly monitor designated stalling areas to ensure continued compliance with state and federal mandates for equine facilities. Agents of noncompliant areas are notified and worked with until violations are resolved, generally including missing fire extinguishers or smoke detectors as well as the removal of partitions blocking aisle ways. Additionally, I regularly patrolled the fairgrounds with State Highway Patrol officers to ensure vehicles were not blocking roadways in camping areas and parking lots per the office of the State Fire Marshal. Food & Beverage Committee: The Food & Beverage Committee is responsible for coordinating all catering orders with Schmidt’s, master concessionaire for the Congress, for all staff meals and special events such as government official visits, Heroes on Horses ceremony, Celeste VIP section receptions, horse show exhibitor and commercial exhibitor parties, “Wine Down Wednesdays”, and Markel draw party, among others. In addition to attending pre-Congress meetings with Schmidt’s, I assisted with set up and tear down of all events and receptions. Additionally, this committee is responsible for stocking all food and beverages in staff areas throughout the fairgrounds—judges’ lounges, ground maintenance areas, locker rooms and announcer areas in both the VS Code Red Coliseum and Celeste arenas, show manager’s office, and entry office.

Judging Tournament and Youth / Collegiate Committees: Regarding Youth activities at the Congress, I assisted in setting up for the Awards breakfast ceremony and also prepared discussion materials for several state agencies promoting the youth including the Ohio Departments of Education and Workforce, Higher Education, and Youth Services. Awards Office Committee: On this committee, members are responsible for the coordination of awarding more than 400 classes at the Congress. My past duties include assisting with the unloading of trophies in Congress Hall prior to the show. Grounds Security: The Grounds Security Committee is responsible for protecting and preserving more than 360 acres and over one million square feet of property. Together with the Ohio State Highway Patrol and two additional layers of contracted security divisions, we ensure the fairgrounds remain as safe and secure as possible in all aspects from handicap parking violations to traffic control and responding to all incident reports made to law enforcement, and preparation of fairgrounds prior to move-in and move-out time frames. Move-In/Move-Out Committee: For the past two years, I have worked at the 17th Avenue front gate entrance during general move in from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. helping manage logistics for all entering into the fairgrounds. This also includes securing payment for each horse entering the grounds on early move in day. I also assisted with stall assignments prior to the start of Congress, hand-numbered stall cards, and placed stall cards on stalls in each barn at the fairgrounds. Additional duties at the Congress include: - Organizing and preparing materials for the Governor’s Cabinet Meeting at the Congress, including detailed agency briefings outlining intersections between state operations and the equine industry—a first for OQHA—and manually calculating economic impact and lodging tax revenue data to present to attendees. - Supporting the Heroes on Horses event and securing attendance from Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller, helping elevate its visibility and recognition. - Personally touring and hosting elected officials and other key leaders during Congress: Texas Department of Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Cabinet Members, Candidate for Ohio Treasurer Jay Edwards, State Senator Michelle Reynolds, State Senator Bill DeMora, Columbus City Council President Shannon Hardin and Family, Columbus Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Derrick Clay, AQHA CFO Andrew Barbe - Assisting with media relations, ensuring positive coverage and consistent messaging throughout the event. - Assisting with coordination of the Queen Contestants’ first-ever visit to Nationwide Children’s Hospital. - Managing and hanging signage throughout fairgrounds to ensure a safe, professional, and organized environment. - Planning and coordinating first-ever series of Wine Wednesdays with Ohio Department of Agriculture and securing full sponsorship for the first-ever Paint and Sip event, allowing the event to be free for all guests. I currently serve as the Manager of the Bullen Equestrian Center in Eaton, Ohio. My duties include scheduling and coordinating all livestock and equine in the arena and expo; creating diagrams and organizing special setup needs; and oversee operations, setups, and preparation for events. I work with the Senior Fairboard to develop a marketing program to attract events to the arena and expo. I manage all the social media and advertising for the arenas, serving as the spokesperson for the Bullen Equestrian Center. I work on community development and relationships within. I have also served as a 4-H advisor for eight years. During that time, I also served as the Horse Advisors President, and committee member to have the Bullen Equestrian Center built. How much time can you dedicate to any role you may be assigned at the Congress?

I am pretty flexible in being able to help serve a role during Congress. Do you have long-term goals to eventually be an officer or serve in a leadership role with OQHA? If yes, please define those goals.

My goal is to continue to help serve OQHA and its members in whatever capacity that I can.

I currently help manage the cutting portion of the All American Quarter Horse Congress. This includes fundraising, managing staff, special evening events, overseeing vendors, promotion, social media, and marketing. I am very excited about continuing to build the cutting portion of the AAQHC and, hopefully, being able to expand into more cow Congress events at the satellite location. I want to continue to improve the Congress experience for the cutters. What do you bring to the Board that makes you unique from other directors or candidates?

I have a very wide range of knowledge from working different parts of horse shows. I have secretaried, announced, done dirtwork, show manager, worked the photo booth, worked with food vendors, managed the facilities, marketing, and social media. Having a wide range of perspectives on each of these parts, I believe this allows me to be unique in my perspective and ideas. I have learned so much from those around me. I also have two sons that show. From starting in 4-H to moving into Ranch Riding and Reined Cowhorse, I have learned a lot from every area they have shown in. I also hold a Master’s in Business Administration and bring valuable business experience to the board, leveraging my skills to drive success. Why do you want to be, or continue to be, an OQHA Board Director or Officer?

I want to be a director because I want to continue to serve the cowhorse and cutting here in Ohio. I want to see these programs grow and expand with OQHA. I would also like to be able to serve in other areas. I have a lot I can give to Ohio Quarter Horse Association and its members.

I am not currently serving on any other boards. How much time can you dedicate to any role you may be assigned at the Congress?

If I’m asked to help with something, I can be counted on. Why do you want to be, or continue to be, an OQHA Board Director or Officer?

I think it’s important to give back to the industry that employs me. I also feel the only way to make sure the industry is headed in the right direction is to get involved.

What do you bring to the Board that makes you unique from other directors or candidates?

As a horse trainer like many of my fellow directors, I feel we as a group have both the knowledge and motivation to make the industry progress. We work in the trenches everyday and are the most invested in the success. I do not strive to be unique from the others but to do more to work with the other directors in order to get more accomplished. Do you have long-term goals to eventually be an officer or serve in a leadership role with OQHA? If yes, please define those goals.

Yes, I feel it’s important to work as a director first to learn the ins and outs of the organization before I would want to step to higher positions.

I served as a founding member and director for the National Pole Bending Association from inception until its sale in 2023. I have also served as a director for Ohio NBHA.

I am at the Congress all month and always make every effort to do what is asked of me. If I can’t do it personally, I try to find someone who can help.

What do you bring to the Board that makes you unique from other directors or candidates?

I bring a lifetime of competing, many years of which have been in speed events. I am still an active competitor and bring that knowledge and experience to build and maintain the integrity of the speed and contesting at the Congress.

I am currently serving on several committees, including speed and contesting and Ohio queens. For the Congress I serve on the youth speech and demonstration contest, morning refreshments, program delivery, demonstrations, and help with move in whenever I am available, as well as ticket taking. I have taken an active role in helping to move the barrel racing and pole bending forward at the congress. There are a lot of entries in these classes and keeping the schedule good and adding events to keep entries up have been important. Do you have long-term goals to eventually be an officer or serve in a leadership role with OQHA? If yes, please define those goals.

I am typically not the person stepping up to be a leader, but am a fantastic soldier. I will do what is necessary to move the association forward, which might include stepping out of my comfort zone at times. I believe in OQHA and its mission and will serve as necessary to continue the tradition of excellence.

I can devote as much time as needed to complete my committee roles. What do you bring to the Board that makes you unique from other directors or candidates?

Since I have been involved in the horse industry in many capacities over the years, I can look at issues and challenges with a different perspective. Being an AQHA and APHA judge allows me to listen to exhibitor input about the Congress too.

I am currently on the Congress Roping, Commercial Exhibitors, and Judging Contest committees. Our roping committee has been able to grow that division substantially at the Congress. Why do you want to be, or continue to be, an OQHA Board Director or Officer?

I have been involved with OQHA for a long time (I’ve only missed one Congress), so my history runs pretty deep. At this time in my life, I am able to devote the time it takes to do a good job. This past Congress, I was able to dedicate my time to helping out with directing traffic the first move in day of the regular part of the horse show, as well as giving my dad a hand during the Intercollegiate Judging contest, both prior to Congress and during the show. I feel that I will be able to continue to dedicate my time to any of these responsibilities as well as take on any others that may be assigned along the way. I do take a small group of horses to the Congress, as long as the roles do not interfere with my dedication to those horses, I could potentially have a reasonable amount of time.

For many years I have been working and participating at AQHA/NSBA/OQHA and events. I have served in leadership roles such as the OQHYA President. I have watched my father serve on the board for over 30 years and feel that I have a better understanding of what is required of myself by the role that he has played. I believe that I have had a great opportunity to gain knowledge throughout my travels and experiences along the way. I believe I could bring some new ideas to the table, not only for the association but to Congress as well. Our industry is always changing and I believe that we need to continue to grow and we do that by learning from our past experiences. OQHA is at the top and we need to continue to remain there by the contributions and ideas of potential board members like myself. To begin, I would like to serve on the board of directors, get my foot in the door and see where that may take me. I would like to see where I would best fit in the OQHA.

The OQHA, has helped me in many ways to allow myself and fellow horse trainers to make a living doing what we love. Yes, It’s an honor to be a director I believe and when I have served long enough I certainly would entertain a leadership position with Ohio Quarter Horse Association. I believe it’s important to continue to search for ways to improve upon what we currently offer to our members, exhibitors, and vendors.

I believe all of our directors and candidates have unique qualities and should be considered for this position. I’m not sure if I’m particularly unique, but I have a strong business background and also we have raised and trained and showed horses for 40 years.

I currently serve as Treasurer for the Eastern Ohio Quarter Horse Association, as well as take on a variety of roles. I fill in for the secretary, keep all membership records, assist with the NYATT team and the youth association, plan the show office needs, and take care of all the show supplies, such as the equipment trailer. I also help plan the showbill, obtain event insurance, and plan venue setup. What do you bring to the Board that makes you unique from other directors or candidates?

I have a lot of knowledge in the Speed Events. I have helped them find areas where more income can be generated . I also like to give new ideas on how to make things go smoothly while adding more income. I have helped with the timed event in Versatility the last couple of years, bringing my own equipment for them to use. I enjoy interacting with the contestants to find ways to solve problems that may come up.

I currently serve on the Queens Committee, NYATT Committee, and Speed Events Committee, as well as assist in the Congress Entry Office before and during the show. Do you have long-term goals to eventually be an officer or serve in a leadership role with OQHA? If yes, please define those goals.

I am always willing to improve my knowledge in all the different disciplines. I do enjoy improving the Congress in any way possible and would take a leadership role if that would enable me to make a difference. Why do you want to be, or continue to be, an OQHA Board Director or Officer?

I really enjoy being able to make this great show run smoothly. The months of planning and adding new rules and ideas to make each area better than it already is. I’m also a director for NOQHA and chair the social media, sponsorship, and Queen committees. How much time can you dedicate to any role you may be assigned at the Little Buckeye, Congress, etc?

Through my time as a director, I have assisted in many elements of making our show, The Little Buckeye, and our annual Pancake Breakfast successful through sponsorships, social media, and making sure participants have a great time. In my role as President, I’ve worked to align our rules with OQHA, break up the multitude of tasks into committees and volunteer opportunities, and continue to refine our processes and procedures to ensure smooth events for all participants.

I’ve dedicated an incredible amount of time for our events, and will continue to do so to ensure successful events.

Over the past four years, I’ve proudly chaired the awards committee for the Little Buckeye, a position that demands extensive planning and budgeting to ensure our exhibitors receive the highest quality and quantity of awards possible. Each year, our committee strives to elevate the experience by offering bigger and better prizes, and I’m excited about the progress we’re making toward that goal. Beyond the Little Buckeye, I’ve also played a key role in organizing the beloved OAQHA pancake breakfast at the All American Quarter Horse Congress. Having chaired this event in years past, I now continue to support it in every way I can—whether it’s flipping pancakes, mixing batter, or handling cleanup. I can dedicate whatever time the role requires. This includes pre-event planning, on-site coverage across earlymornings/evenings and weekends, and post-event wrapup. Over the past three years, I’ve consistently exceeded the required time commitments at both the Little Buckeye and Congress Pancake breakfast. Why do you want to be, or continue to be, an OAQHA Board Director or Officer?

Serving on the Board lets me support our members, strengthen our shows, and pay forward what this sport has given me.

I have served on the OAQHA Board as Chair of Sponsors and Chair of Vendors for the Little Buckeye. In the Sponsorship role, I developed tiered sponsorship packages and secured, cultivated, and renewed sponsor relationships. In the Vendor role, I coordinated vendor selection, floor plan/layout, and managed the waitlist. At the Congress, for the past three years I have volunteered as a welcome greeter, managing check-in and handling donations for the Pancake Breakfast. I’m fully committed to supporting any role I’m assigned at the Little Buckeye, Congress, or other OAQHA events. I can dedicate as much time as needed to ensure my responsibilities are met and goals are achieved. Why do you want to be, or continue to be, an OAQHA Board Director or Officer?

I want to continue serving as an OAQHA Officer because I truly enjoy collaborating with fellow horse enthusiasts and contributing to events that benefit the membership and broader equine community. I currently serve as the OAQHA Secretary. For the past 4 years, I have been the Co-Chair of the Exhibitor Food Committee at the Little Buckeye where we feed approximately 600 exhibitors five meals. I consider myself and self-starter, organized and highly motivated in any roles and projects which I take on. I am interested increasing the OAQHA member base. These traits can help greatly to make our amateur events better, more efficient and effective to give all participants the best experiences they can have at our functions. Since 2022, I have been and active participant on the OAQHA Board as a Director. In prior years, at the Little Buckeye, I have had responsibilities in helping with the trail pen, gates, helping with the showmanship pen, working in the office and helping with meals and camping. For the 2025 Little Buckeye, I accepted the role of organizing, preparing, recruiting, helping all clinicians and hosting the Ride The Pattern Clinics at the 2025 Little Buckeye each evening. For the 2025 Ride the Patterns, I recommended including brief bios and accomplishments about each guest clinician for our attendees. Additionally, I helped with meals and in the office during the horse show. During the Congress, I have helped unpacking the trailer and set-up for the Pancake Breakfast. This past Congress, I had the scooter adventure searching for the griddle, successfully found, which was delivered on the Thursday prior to the Pancake Breakfast along with helping with set-up on Friday evening. Do you have long-term goals to eventually be an officer or serve in a leadership role with OAQHA? If yes, please define those goals.

Long term, I have competed a 3 year term as a OAQHA Director for 2022-2025 and would love to serve for another 3 years with OAQHA and continue helping with the Little Buckeye and the Pancake Breakfast. Additionally, ensuring our amateur members/volunteers, at our events, be educated and familiar with our venues’ first aid/AED locations along and other emergency resources are important facts to know to so we all have safe and fun horse show/event.

I bring the perspective of someone with over 30 years of administrative office experience, team leadership and project management, and most of those as a horse show mom and horse owner. I am creative and dedicated to the association’s success. Because I don’t show, my time is completely flexible and available as needed at association events. LITTLE BUCKEYE: As a horse show mom, I began volunteering at the show in 2023. After joining the OAQHA board in 2024, I worked closely with coordinating our show office and working alongside Chris Darnell to ensure our office ran smoothlyand effectively throughout the show. In 2024 I was also part of kickstarting our Doggie Bag project that provides treats for our canines and encourage exhibitors to be active participants in maintaining our show grounds. In 2025, I assisted with some arena set-up and teardown and also worked closely with our show management team to coordinate the judges meals. As a member of the Sponsorship Subcommittee, I was part of an initiative to simplify and clarify sponsorship levels that helped level the field and continue to advocate for cost-effective support measures. PANCAKE BREAKFAST: Two years ago, I made the suggestion that we shift the recipient of our pancake breakfast fundraiser to Nationwide Children’s Hospital to further foster connection between Columbus and the Quarter Horse Congress. This year we are beyond proud to have raised over $5,000 for the hospital and presented a check to representatives fromNationwide who were able to attend our event. This year, I worked closely with Todd Salome and Heritage Catering, a longtime supporter and advocate of the pancake breakfast, developing a partnership that significantly reduced the cost of this event to OAQHA. I also suggested our popular Little Buckeye stall raffle that helped to marry our horse show and the pancake breakfast, enabling us to provide a larger donation to Nationwide and foster a greater connection between our show and the Quarter Horse Congress. For the last several years I have been an active part of the Pancake Breakfast, from set-up to shut-down. It is an event I am proud to be a part of and hope to see thrive for years to come.

What makes me unique as a candidate for the Board is the combination of my military leadership experience, strategic mindset, and my family’s active involvement with both the Ohio Quarter Horse Association and the Ohio Amateur Quarter Horse Association. Currently I do not serve on any additional boards. How much time can you dedicate to any role you may be assigned at the Little Buckeye, Congress, etc? I’m fully committed to dedicating the time needed for any role I’m assigned at events like the Little Buckeye or Congress. Between my military background and years of balancing work and family, I’m used to managing schedules, planning ahead, and making sure I follow through on every commitment. Additionally, since my daughter actively shows, I’m already at many of these events, and I see that as an opportunity to contribute both as a volunteer and as a parent who understands the participant’s perspective. I’m especially committed to being present during key event dates and helping in the months leading up to them — whether that means assisting with planning, logistics, or supporting youth and amateur activities on-site. Throughout my Army career, I’ve had the privilege of leading teams through complex missions that required discipline, teamwork, and clear communication. At the same time, I bring the perspective of a parent who is fully invested in this community. My daughter is entering her fourth season showing with OQHA, and through her journey I’ve seen firsthand how these associations help young riders grow — building confidence, sportsmanship, and lifelong friendships. That connection drives me to help strengthen opportunities for youth and amateur members alike, ensuring they have the resources and encouragement to succeed in and out of the arena. In short, I bring both the leadership and accountability developed through years of military service, and the heart of a parent who believes deeply in the mission of the Ohio Quarter Horse community. My goal is to help the Association continue to thrive — for our riders, our families, and the future of the sport in Ohio. I usually am involved pretty significantly before and during the show. If I’m not showing/caring for my horse, then I am usually finding some way to help out.

In 2024, I helped Kelly with the awards committee. I volunteered throughout the show as much as possible from start to finish. In 2025, I headed the camping committee; in addition to that I helped out daily with various tasks from trail set up and tear down to serving lunch and dinner every day. At the Congress I’ve helped out with the Pancake Breakfast for 3 years straight on the Friday before and day of. I think it’s important to continue to find ways to grow our amateur membership and find ways to encourage participation at the horse show and pancake breakfast.

As of right now, I’m happily serving as a director. What do you bring to the Board that makes you unique from other directors or candidates?

The Ohio Quarter Horse Association will once again utilize electronic balloting for the 2026 Open, Amateur, and Youth elections. The use of Election Buddy gives OQHA the opportunity to streamline a process that previously required more time and expense for both the association and its members. Members will receive a link, associated with their OQHA membership, via email and text message, allowing members to choose their most convenient option. The automated system will only allow members to submit one ballot per OQHA membership number. OQHA must have a valid email and mobile number on file for each member in order for the system to function properly. In addition, many OQHA memberships are family memberships and only have one email and/or phone number on file. Each eligible family member is able to vote, however OQHA must provide Election Buddy with valid email and mobile numbers for each family member. My contributions currently for OQHYA: I helped plan the 2025 Youth bash held at the Congress; I went down to YES this year and ran for Region 4 Director representing Ohio and got the spot; I also did fundraising this year and helped sell raffle tickets at the Congress.

My top 3 priorities for OQHYA are building a stronger youth board, as well as creating committees for each major event we hold, like our NYATT team and for youth world; I’d love to get everyone more involved. My current involvement in OQHYA is 2025 Vice President, and before that, I was the OQHYA secretary for two years. What do you consider to be your contributions to the OQHYA Board of Directors? I believe that my contributions to OQHYA would be to get more people involved that are showing in other associations or riding team, and have them feel comfortable enough to be involved. I know how intimidating meeting new people is, especially your peers. I would love to make it a more comfortable space to get more involvement through other groups and associations, to widen and grow our youth association.

What are your Top 3 priorities for OQHYA? My top 3 priorities I’d have as your vice president would be inclusivity, creating more involvement in our association, and discovering better ways to do fundraising to raise more money to better our association for the next year. I would try my best to help make OQHYA more inclusive by trying to make it less intimidating for new members to become involved. I was once the new young kid who was so scared to get involved because I was unsure of what I was expected or allowed to do, so what I would love to do is make that easier for young new members. This kind of goes along with my priority, but I would like to discover a way for us as an association to get more involvement. One of our biggest needs is involvement; if you have no involvement, you have no participation. We strive on participation; the more we have, the bigger and better our association can grow. Now my last priority is fundraising. With been on the board for a couple of years now, I have really come to find out how important fundraising actually is. Not only for the youth individually but for the group as a whole, finding new ways to make fundraising more fun and effective is definitely at the top of my list.

Currently, I am the secretary for OQHYA, and I have also been a director for 3 years. I mostly show in the Hunter Under Saddle with Al I Want Is You, which I have placed in the Top 10, Top 15, and have been a finalist multiple times at the All American Quarter Horse Congress, as well as the AQHYA World Show. This past year, I showed the Western Pleasure with Martinis N Chocolate, and we were Top 15 at the All American Quarter Horse Congress.

What do you consider to be your contributions to the OQHYA Board of Directors? If elected, I will continue to be an active member, contributing my ideas when possible, helping with fundraisers, and getting everyone more engaged at meetings.

What are your Top 3 priorities for OQHYA? My top 3 priorities for OQHYA would be to get more people involved in OQHYA and just the Quarter Horse industry in general. Another would be to help people be more involved in meetings and helping with fundraisers to support the organization. My final priority would be to help with the expansion or our social media presence and even help get more people to show up to our meetings.

Current Involvement

I have been a member of OQHYA for 6 years and a Director for 2 years. I’ve dedicated myself to volunteering significant time to OQHYA to make it a more collaborative community for all involved. I attended YES in 2023, representing OQHYA, and it was such an amazing experience. Not to forget, I’ve been on multiple OQHYA World Show committees, including Setup, Stall Decorations, the Boots and Jeans contest, and Scrapbook. I am a member of affiliate organizations within Ohio and have contributed to those as well. Lastly, at The All American Quarter Horse Congress 2025, I represented the OQHYA’s NYATT team and was involved with selling 50/50 raffle tickets at the PBR, the Youth Bash, Golf Cart Raffle and I had the pleasure of interviewing several individuals at Congress for a video for OQHYA.

I will continue to contribute my time and efforts for the betterment of this organization. I want to help this youth organization work together and become more like a family. I will provide support by being available for questions and feedback from/to the community. I want to work on an outreach program to seek new youth members as well as help our current members get more involved in our organization to help build and improve OQHYA. What are your Top 3 priorities for OQHYA? 1. A willingness among the Youth to become more collaborative, to fulfill their duties, and learn the hard work and dedication that it takes to be committed to an organization through participating and being continuously active as an OQHYA member 2. The 2025 season was my first year being involved with the OQHYA and I was happy to be involved. In 2025, I showed with Ohio at the AQHYA World Show and was a member of the Congress NYATT Team. I also compete at many other Ohio shows throughout the season. I’ve participated in fundraisers and other projects including; golf cart, selling m&m’s at shows, boot and jean decorating and presenting at youth worlds, decorating at youth worlds, coat and jean donations collections, 50/50 raffle at Congress etc.

What do you consider to be your contributions to the OQHYA Board of Directors? I have strong organization skills, lots of new ideas, and the desire to see OQHYA be very successful.

1. Inclusion: When I first started showing AQHA I did not know where I fit and what I could do to contribute to the association. I want to make more people feel welcome and show people how they can help to make OQHYA better! 2. Advertisement: I think we could get more out of our fundraisers if we advertised better! We need a larger following on social media platforms to communicate with people so that they know when fundraisers are happening. 3. Organization: I wanted to be more involved and make sure people are aware of upcoming events and how they can participate and feel involved in OQHYA. I think communication is very important and everyone needs to know what is going on.

My contributions to OQHYA board of directors the past year has been attending majority of the meetings I could and trying to include myself and others as much as I could in these meetings. I have also helped raise money over the past year with helping sell raffle tickets as well as selling all of my golf-cart tickets to people all over my community, promoting the OQHYA.

I would say my top 3 priorities for OQHYA would include encouraging more fundraising so we can host more events and be more involved in the community. Another priority would be working on organization throughout the OQHYA, allowing members to be better informed with new information like meeting times and dates. Finally, I believe my highest priority for OQHYA would be to welcome new members with open arms and continue to build team camaraderie. I want the newer members and current members to always feel welcome and that they belong in this organization. Ohio NYATT Teams Represent at Congress The world’s largest National Youth Activity Team Tournament (NYATT), sponsored by National Snaffle Bit Association (NSBA) Smart Points and hosted by the All American Quarter Horse Congress, is a significant event for youth involved in the Quarter Horse industry. Bringing together 300 youth from across North America and representing 45 different state and regional Quarter Horse associations, the 2025 NYATT culminated Sunday, October 19. Each team consisted of 1-16 riders, with no more than two members competing in each of the eight NYATT classes: Barrel Racing, Horsemanship, Hunt Seat Equitation, Hunter Under Saddle, Ranch Riding, Reining, Showmanship and Western Pleasure. To determine overall team standings, points are awarded for each individual’s efforts in every class, with first place receiving 10 points, second place nine points, and so on. With 20 teams in Division I, the team from Southern Ohio Quarter Horse Association won the champion title. The Northern Ohio Quarter Horse Association team took home 7th place while the Ohio Quarter Horse Association team finished 13th. In Division II, the Eastern Ohio Quarter Horse Association’s team finished 4th while the team from Ohio Michigan Indiana Quarter Horse Association took home 5th. Headley Two-Part Ranch Series Winners Owners of open and non pro working western rail stakes horses competing at both the All American Quarter Horse Congress and the Markel AQHA and Adequan Select World show in Oklahoma City, Okla. earned trophy saddles and a portion of $10,000 in added money, thanks to the generous sponsorship of Headley Quarter Horses, as part of the Two-Part Ranch Series. Taking home the open championship title, after winning the division in 2022 and 2023, was Sumac GunnaBeFlashy, shown by AQHA Professional Horseman Bud Lyon of Whitesboro, Texas and owned by Leslie Lange of Greeley, Colo. The 2017 chestnut gelding is sired by GunnaTrashYa and out of Chics Graceful Whiz (Whiz N Tag Chex), and was bred by Donald Sobey of Trenton, Nova Scotia. Lyon and Sumac GunnaBeFlashy earned $5,000 and a Harris Leather ranch-style saddle. Winning the reserve champion title in the open division and the champion title in the non pro division was Cowpuncher Cadillac, owned by Jimmy Daurio and David Renier of Loveland, Colo. The 2017 bay roan stallion is sired by Royal Blue Quixote and out of Miss Dakota Eyed (Two Eyed Red Buck), and was bred by Pitzer Ranch/Dack Cattle LLC of Ericson, Neb. Shown in the open by AQHA Professional Horseman Jimmy Daurio, the pair earned $3,000. Shown in the non pro by David Renier, the pair received a Harris Leather ranch-style saddle as the high point winners for 2025. Ohio Amateur Quarter Horse Association OAQHA Pancake Breakfast Raises Over $5,000 for Nationwide Children’s Hospital The OAQHA team hosted the annual Pancake Breakfast at the 2025 All American Quarter Horse Congress, serving up $5 all-you-can-eat pancakes. We also offered stall-side delivery and raffled off a 2026 Little Buckeye stall, all to benefit Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Thanks to your generosity, we raised $5,065— surpassing last year’s total and stacking up the support in a big way. Engagement Stipend Update The OAQHA engagement stipend helped many OQHA Amateurs earn a free Congress parking pass this year. But it’s not over yet! If you volunteered 4 hours at the Little Buckeye or Pancake Breakfast, you can still earn $50 cash by attending two OAQHA Board Meetings via Zoom before year-end. Supporting Our Members at the AQHA World Show We were thrilled to cheer on our OQHA teams at the AQHA World Show. OQHA Amateur members received a cash stipend from OAQHA to support their journey. Ohio Quarter Horse Youth Association The Ohio Quarter Horse Youth Association took on Oklahoma City for the 2025 AQHYA World Championship Show, and definitely brought some hardware back to the Buckeye State! OQHA took home: 9 CHAMPION titles 9 RESERVE CHAMPION titles 5 BRONZE CHAMPION titles 17 TOP FIVE placings 25 TOP TEN placings 28 FINALIST placings OQHYA also took home FIRST PLACE in the Scrapbook Contest, SECOND PLACE in the Justin Boots Contest, and OVERALL WINNER of the Team Spirit Award!

Congress 2025 is a wrap and the youth of the Ohio Quarter Horse Association made their mark! Our NYATT team finished 13th in this year’s Division I competition and we had many great placings. Bullen Equestrian Center This fall we had the finals for the Western Ohio Youth Rodeo, Cowboy Fall Classic (which included a week of the All American Quarter Horse Congress Cutting, a weekend of roping and a weekend of Cowboy Mounted Shooting), Ohio & Indiana Jr. High and High School Rodeo, and YEDA.

The AAQHC Cutting brought back the Bridleless Cutting this year; we filled the bleachers with fans who cheered on the cutters. It was a huge highlight of our week. Brand Brewer, age 12, won the Bridleless Cutting - bareback AND with no bridle! Just him and his horse. The local non-profit preschool, Preble Mini Minds also came for a visit. We hope to grow more equestrains here in Eaton, Ohio!

Buckeye Reining Series 2026 Show Date: May 27-31, Champions Center

Creek Side Horse Park What a great season of Mountain Trail challenges. If you haven’t tried it yet, it’s a must for the 2026 season! It’s a fun, low pressure showing atmosphere where everyone helps each other before they go onto the course for their pattern. It’s all about building your partnership with your horse and having fun while doing it, while providing a little competition to feed that competitive side we all have. Mid-Ohio Dressage Association Mid-Ohio Dressage Association had a busy fall preparing for their Annual Year End Awards Banquet. This special occasion was held December 13th, 2025 at the Brookside Golf & Country Club. The event includes recognition of members who submitted the highest average of qualifying scores at their respective level. Awards were given for Recognized Shows, Schooling Shows and Western Dressage Shows. Special sponsored and perpetual awards were also given. The Show Committee is actively working on the schedule for the 2026 Show Season and hope to have most dates confirmed in time for release at the Year End Awards Banquet. The Mid-Ohio Classic Recognized USEF Show will once again be held in July at Brave Horse Equestrian Center, as well as the East Meets West Schooling Show in September. Here at OMIQHA, we had a phenomonal show season with all of you. Our youth did a phenomonal job this year at the AAQHC NYATT Competition on October 19th, 2025: placing 5th overall in Division II. Congratulations to Gavin Basso on 12th place in Western Pleasure, Gwen Toth placing 6th in Hunter Under Saddle, and Ava Zehnder placing 4th in Barrel Racing! We have exciting news for the 2026 show season: We will be adding a couple more shows. We hope that you are as excited as we are! Mark you calendars for June 26, 2026 for a Level 1 Show and June 27-28, 2026 Youth/Ammy Show, both at Garwood Arena in Columbiana. The Challenge February 27 - March 1: where over $10,000 in scholarship money will be awarded on top of other fantastic prizes.
