Education at a Glance is one of the OECD’s yearly flagship publications. It provides an authoritative compendium of statistics on education systems in OECD countries. This Spotlight draws from Education at a Glance 2022 data with the aim of providing the reader a snapshot of the state of play in tertiary education through data available at the education system level. The image of the sector drawn by the data is intriguing. It shows that the rapid expansion of tertiary education continues. This both reflects and drives the development of our knowledge societies that require highly skilled people. The good news for the sector is that the benefits of tertiary education for individuals and societies remain clear, and take many forms, despite the expansion of and continued public debate about the relevance of tertiary education in a quickly evolving labour market.
