OCTORARA BRAVES

Octorara Board of School Directors

Greetings

from the

Octorara Area School District, the Home of the Braves!

It is my pleasure to serve the Octorara community. Octorara’s vision is to empower students to build successful futures. At Octorara, there are many things that go into the formation of students’ futures. This is certainly the philosophy behind our enthusiastic support for interscholastic athletics and extracurricular activities. Through athletics, we aspire to see our students become Bold, Responsible, Ambitious, Virtuous, Energetic, and Selfless members of the Octorara community.

In the athletic arena so many of life’s lessons are learned. Teamwork, discipline, grit, determination, self-sacrifice and self-control are some of the many outcomes of being a part of a team. We hope that all Octorara students participate in at least one of our sports or activities, as they play such an integral part in the development of teenagers.

Cheer on our Braves. Cheer loud. Support them as they compete, struggle and overcome. We want Octorara fans to be known for their passion for our athletes, but also as the fans with the highest degree of respect for our opponents. Coaches, athletes and officials do not have easy jobs, so be supportive at all times.

We are most grateful to the many parents, gameworkers, administrators and boosters who provide endless support, energy and enthusiasm for our student-athletes and coaches. Without them and the dedication and leadership of our booster organizations, the school district’s athletic program would not be possible. Consider how you can involve yourself in support of our programs.

Thank you for your continued support of Octorara’s student athletes. Go Braves!

Steven A. Leever, Ed.D.

Welcome from the Octorara Athletic Department! I am excited to be part of the Octorara community as we embrace another year of athletics at Octorara. I am proud to serve the student athletes, coaching staff, and parents of Octorara as a school with a strong sense of pride for their performance on and off the field.

Octorara athletics allows students an opportunity to grow and develop as productive citizens in our community as they develop the necessary skills through competition. As a member of the Lancaster-Lebanon League and PIAA we look forward to a successful season for our 16 programs. Our athletic department promotes appropriate student athlete development through your child’s participation in interscholastic athletics. The values our student athletes learn through their participation in our programs play an integral role in their development as they represent our Octorara community.

Good Luck to all our teams during their season as they continue the long tradition Octorara community has established. I look forward to seeing everyone as we continue our journey and celebrate our accomplishments and success. “ I’m Proud to be a Brave!”

Best wishes for a great spring season.

Daryl Maser: Head Varsity Coach

• 14 Year Blast VBC Coach

• 2 Year Varsity Coach at Octorara

“Why do you coach? I enjoy the game, played it when I was young and now due to health reasons, I can’t play anymore. So I thought I would enjoy coaching and I did.”

Sarah Lazor: Assistant Varsity Coach / JV Coach

• Played Volleyball Elementary School Through Present

• First Year Coaching

I love this sport and want to share my passion with others, so that’s why I’ve decided to coach. I’ve learned to love my role not only as a coach on the court, but as a life coach off the court, and I love watching the players grow in their skills and as people as they get older each year. Seeing them achieve their goals is the reason why I do all of this. I want them to know they’ve always got someone in their corner, and they have support from me always.

Lyle Gillesepe: Assistant Varsity Coach

• My volleyball career includes over 30 years of playing experience.

• Pope John Paul II Coach 2008-2009.

• Liberty Belles VBC 2008-2009.

• Blast VBC 2010- Present.

• I Have had numerous players go on to the collegiate level.

Why do you coach? I’ve been involved in volleyball since I was 16 and played for 30 years at a high level.I retired from coaching twice and got asked to come back. I guess it is the Love of the Game, and the building and problem solving it takes to create a good team

Allison Carr: Middle School Head Coach

• 3rd Year Coaching At Octorara

Why do you coach? I wanted another way to connect with my students and believe that sports should be a combination of competitive play and enjoying time doing something you love. I see this role as a way to help young girls learn how to be confident in themselves, encourage and connect with their peers, and communicate effectively with others. Volleyball just happens to be the common denominator that brings us all together
