Greetings from the Octorara Area School District, the Home of the Braves!

It is my pleasure to serve as the district’s Superintendent of Schools. The vision of Octorara is to maximize the opportunities for success of all students. At Octorara this takes many different shapes and forms. This is certainly the philosophy behind our enthusiastic support for interscholastic athletics and extracurricular activities. Through athletics, we aspire to see our students become Bold, Responsible, Ambitious, Virtuous, Energetic, and Selfless members of the Octorara community.

It is through athletics that so many life lessons are learned. Teamwork, discipline, grit, determination, self-sacrifice and self-control are some of the many outcomes of being a part of a team. It is my wish that all Octorara students participate in at least one of our sports or activities, as they play such an integral part in the development of teenagers.

It is my hope that Octorara fans would be known for their passion for our athletes, but also as the fans with the highest degree of respect for our opponents. Coaches, athletes and officials do not have easy jobs, so make sure you are supportive at all times.

We are most grateful to the many parents, gameworkers, administrators and boosters who provide endless support, energy and enthusiasm for our student-athletes and coaches. Without them and the dedication and leadership of our booster organizations, the school district’s athletic program would not be possible. Consider how you can involve yourself in support of our programs.

Welcome from the Octorara Athletic Department! I am excited to be part of the Octorara community as we embrace another year of athletics at Octorara. I am proud to serve the student athletes, coaching staff, and parents of Octorara as a school with a strong sense of pride for their performance on and off the field.

Octorara athletics allows students an opportunity to grow and develop as productive citizens in our community as they develop the necessary skills through competition. As a member of the Lancaster-Lebanon League and PIAA we look forward to a successful season for our 16 programs. Our athletic department promotes appropriate student athlete development through your child’s participation in interscholastic athletics. The values our student athletes learn through their participation in our programs play an integral role in their development as they represent our Octorara community.

Good Luck to all our teams during their season as they continue the long tradition Octorara community has established. I look forward to seeing everyone as we continue our journey and celebrate our accomplishments and success. “ I’m Proud to be a Brave!”

Seniors - Seeing you grow and develop as people and baseball players since we’ve been together has been a blessing. I’m proud of each of you and want to thank you for the privilege of being your coach.

Players - Thank you for always being open to new learning and ways of doing things in our program. Your dedication and love for the game continue to inspire me and drive me to make this program the best for you.

Community - Thank you for your unwavering support. The goals we’ve reached and the plans to come could not have happened and would not be possible without you.

The purpose of the athletic program is to promote the physical, mental, moral, social, and emotional well-being of each student-athlete, while teaching them sportsmanship, commitment, sacrifice, teamwork, and hard work.

I coach baseball to help guide the next generation of young men in our community by teaching them that hard work and dedication can get them far in life. I also enjoy being around people who love the game of baseball as much as I do.

• 4 Year Camp Director at LL Baseball Summer Camp in Williamsport, PA I coach to serve student-athletes. The game of baseball has had a significant impact on my life, and I want to show student-athletes what it can do in their lives.

Craig Leister: Assistant Varsity Coach

I coach baseball to build connections with student-athletes. I value seeing the growth and successes that our players experience through the challenges of the game.

Sean Foster: Assistant Varsity Coach

• Played baseball for 17 years: 4 years at Octorara, and 4 years on the club team at York College of Pennsylvania.

• Years Coaching Baseball: Coached the club team at York College for 2 years and this is my first year as an assistant varsity baseball coach at Octorara. I coach baseball to pass on the knowledge and skills that I have learned from my coaches and to help our student-athletes at Octorara develop as individuals.

Matt King: JV Head Coach

• Coached @ JV level for 6 years

• Coached @ Junior High level for 2 years

• Coached @ Little League level for 7+ years

Coaching baseball gives me the opportunity to serve my school community and build relationships with young men, to help teach and guide them into becoming healthy contributing members of society.

Phil Rudisill: Assistant JV Coach

• 4th year as Assist. JV Coach at Octorara;10 years Jr High Coach at Octorara

• 10yrs Little League Coach at OALL

• 4 yrs as PIAA Baseball Umpire

• 7 yrs American Legion Coach, Ephrata Elks (1990 PA runner-up/National Qualifier, 3x Lancaster Co Champs)

• 7 yrs as Akron Midget Coach (summer baseball 16u team)

• 14 years Assist. Varsity Coach at Ephrata H.S.

Coaching has provided the opportunity to interact with students outside of the classroom and to establish life-long friendships. Coaching is also a way to give back to the community after years of playing for coaches who gave their time and energy helping me and my teammates.

Each year donations to the program go towards a number of different items. Specifically in the past we have raised funds for equipment, uniforms and field improvements. This year we are looking to upgrade our facilities, including renovations to our batting cage, bullpens and dugouts.
