Harris Central Appraisal District’s (CAD) formal and informal hearing results are displayed below:  The Harris (CAD) total tax savings in 2022 of $720 million is less than the 2021 total property tax savings of $662 million. Harris County property owners protested the taxable value of 495,130 accounts in 2022.  86% of informal protests and 77% of property tax protests filed with the Appraisal Review Board (ARB) in Harris County were successful. Homeowners saved $163 million at Harris CAD in informal protests and $66 million in ARB property tax protests.  For single family home protests, in 2017 the percentage of formal protests resulting in a reduction decreased to about 61% and increased in 2022 to about 83%.  In 2018, about 20% of Harris County property was protested, but by 2022, this had increased to 26%. August 2023 Harris County property owners gained tax savings of around $356 million through informal hearings and $257 million as a result of Appraisal Review Board hearings, for an estimated total tax savings of $613 million in 2021.

July 2023 In 2021, The Harris County Appraisal District ARB hearings resulted in a total of $10.3 billion in value reductions, leading to a property tax saving for the year estimated at around $257 million.

June 2023 The Harris County Appraisal District reduced assessed value through informal hearing settlements by $14.2 billion in 2021. This generated property tax savings of approximately $356 million.

May 2023 217,394 of 241,930 accounts resolved informally at the Harris County Appraisal District successfully achieved a reduction in value. That is equal to 90% of the informal settlements for 2021.
