In fact, autumn is a great time to take advantage of the outdoor space. All you need is a little preparation. The point of a patio or terrace is to extend the living space of your home and, while you can take on an expensive remodel, there are some simple things you can do to make the space cosy and comfortable without breaking the bank. First of all the furniture. If your current furniture is worn down, broken or uncomfortable, you are not likely to spend much time outside. add a colourful outdoor rug to serve as a barrier between the cold floor and your feet. This extra splash of colour is a simple way to make your patio more cosy and comfortable. For the chilly evenings you may want some heat. There are various types of patio heaters available and they come in all shapes and sizes including free standing, table-top and wall-hanging, you just need to choose one that fits in the space you have available. Another great way to make your patio warm this autumn is to install a fire pit. In addition to creating heat, you can also use the pit for doing autumn activities such as roasting marshmallows. No matter what your team is, you know exactly where you will be at kick off time, either in the stadium or in front of the television. that can not only be used outside, but they can actually be stored out there, too. Smart TV’s can connect to your wireless internet so you can still access your favourite shows – including the big game – while sitting outside on your patio. There are many other outdoor appliances that will come in handy too if you plan on kicking back in front of your outdoor TV. Consider, for example, an outdoor fridge to store your favourite drinks, there are plenty of smaller units available that are portable and easy to move around and store. The main point of having a patio or terrace is to use it, and there are many ways you can take advantage of it even in colder temperatures. You can create an inviting

space by using the right furniture, decor and lighting scheme. Keep things warm with outdoor heaters and throws. Bring out devices such as a television or fridge, or keep things simple and start planting your favourite vegetables. W

ith the cooler months ahead of us, it’s time to think about making your home just that little bit cosier and warmer, and the living room is the perfect place to start. Since the living/family room is the gathering space where you probably spend much of your time, you’ll want to create an especially cosy and welcoming feeling here. If you are fortunate enough to have a fireplace in your home, then stock up on olive tree wood (it really is the best for you and the environment, but more on that another day), and use the warm glow from your fire to help create a cosy and comfortable ambience in your living room. The fabrics that you choose for your room are very important too. Fabrics that beg to be touched in rich, warm colours are instant soothers: fleece, velvet, chenille, velour and satin. There are a great variety of inexpensive throws and blankets available in these cosy fabrics. Drape them artfully over the backs of easy chairs or the arms of the sofa. Obviously, you don’t want a satin-covered couch around kids (not to mention what a hard time guests would have staying put on it!), but a small, satin-covered throw pillow might be just the thing to wrap your arms around or rest your head upon when you’re curled up in a chair or on the sofa. One really luxurious velvet pillow mixed up with several smaller throw pillows is also a nice touch. Create a feeling of instant ease with a reading area. If space permits, designate a corner of the room for this purpose. A comfortable chair, a floor lamp, a small table holding a stack of books (with room for a snack or a cup of tea) are all you need to create a mini-oasis in this busy room. Other touches to include are a footstool or cushy ottoman, a cozy throw or afghan, and a magazine rack. A game nook is another easy and fun way to invite people to sit and relax. You could designate another corner of the room for this purpose, or you can make it the center piece of the room. Arrange a couple of chairs around a small table with a chess, draughts or board game all set up to play. You could keep a storage bin or small toy box nearby, stocked with more games, decks of cards, and small notepads and pencils (for keeping score in those friendly but no doubt competitive card games). What a perfect end to the summer season as the Costa Women Axarquia once again enjoyed a fun boat party on Catamaran Zostera for their September event. This time they had arranged a ‘Puesta de Sol’ (Sunset) excursion. Even though there was a fair amount of cloud cover it was still a wonderful experience with beautiful views. No swimming in the Med this time, the ladies were just happy to sip on their cava, relax and catch up with friends on board. Catamaran Zostera is based at the lovely Caleta de Velez marina and has daily excursions and trips all along this beautiful coastline. Costa Women Axarquia is part of ‘Costa Women’ in Spain. he very first time I ever saw in print the words ‘Elegance is an attitude’ it was above a classic photo of the movie and fashion icon Audrey Hepburn, who of course was the epitome of elegance. Now fashion has changed since Audrey Hepburn took centre stage on the silver screen, but the principles of her styling and presence are as true today as they were then. I see many women of today dressing well, very well in fact, even in our modern and dare I say it, more casual world, some women are still dressing as though everyday is an Audrey Hepburn day. Typically, classic and minimalist styles will look elegant all the time. But don’t think just because you prefer bohemian or street style that dressing with elegance is out of the question. High fashion, minimal or classic, you can make your style look elegant. Classic, timeless clothing made of materials that will last well into the next decade is what you should be looking to add to your essential wardrobe. Think cotton, wool, linen, and silk. These four basic fabrics will stand the test of time if cared for properly. Cleaned and pressed, items made of these fabrics tend to give off a classy vibe all on their own. Wide-leg trousers and skinny trousers in classic fabrics are also acceptable, as are cargo pants (shades of Audrey Hepburn!). Blazers, blouses and jumpers should always follow the curve of your waist. Not everything you wear has to be perfectly tailored and form-fitting. You can always mix in unstructured pieces for a more relaxed vibe. Very importantly, dressing with elegance requires a bit of modesty so keep your cleavage to a minimum and your belly button covered. Additionally, armholes on blouses and dresses should not reveal your bra. Your hands and the jewellery on them are an extension of your wardrobe, and a reflection of the care you take with your appearance, especially if you are wearing a statement bracelet or ring that brings extra attention to those fingers. fter a long hot summer season filled with late night partying, lack of sleep, too much alcohol, not enough exercise and lots of fun in the hot sun, I decided that as it was September, it was time to start with an Autumn re-boot. To kick this off I booked myself in for a facial to replenish myself and put the goodness back into my skin. And there was no better place to have this treatment than at Raul Aguilar Hair & Beauty in Torre del Mar. I was first recommended to beauty therapist Rocio Hijano Guirado about 8 years ago, so I was delighted to run into her once again earlier this year when I found that she was situated in the ‘RH’ beauty room at Raul Aguilar Hair & Beauty. On analysing my skin Rocio recommended a rejuvenating & hydrating facial with hydrochloric acid and facial peel. Rocio welcomed me and I was made very comfortable and relaxed with soft lighting and spa inspired music in the background. Rocio uses a combination of only high quality beauty products by beauty specialists Janssen Cosmetics and Miriam Quevedo. The products Rocio used for me also helped to oxygenate and illuminate the skin with vitamin c and 24k gold. e ensure our car has a regular service and itv/ mot to make sure it is in good order to do to the job required of it and as a matter of course we visit the dentist every six months whether we have any dental problems or not. But when it comes to our bodies in general we are not so well organised. It is time for all women (and men for that matter) to recognise the importance of an annual check up for a healthy body, soul and mind. We should recognise that a wellness check-up leads to better health and helps to prevent disease. Even insurance companies have finally recognised that preventive medicine leads to reduced long term medical cost and regular check ups are considered to be preventive. A well woman check up will involve different tests depending on what your doctor recommends. All women over the

age of 18 should get a yearly checkup. On the internet there are many sites offering all sorts of information about what should be tested and screened and when and why complete with detailed information and guidelines. But basically, the main areas of concern that should be regularly checked are as follows (in no particular order). Full checkup, including weight and height, thyroid (TSH) test, blood pressure test, blood glucose test, mammogram, smear test and irregular mole check. Before visiting your doctor or practitioner, you should prepare a list of questions. The list should include any concerns you might have. Make sure to bring to the doctors attention any concerns you may have regarding what has been occurring over the past year or so. Remember we are talking about your health and well

alaga Fashion Week returned to the capital this September. The glamorous Larios catwalk (pasarela) held its 9th edition this September 13 & 14. The event brings over 15,000 people to the capital each day. Calle Larios boasts ‘Europe’s longest catwalk’ at over 300m long. Of course, team OCIO Magazine were there in style, alongside other guests of Malaga Haute Couture designer Rafael Urquizar. Ashlyn and I strutted our stuff on the blue carpet before settling down with a glass of cava to enjoy the show. Like true socialites Ashlyn and I were prepped and preened for the event. Hanni spent the afternoon being pampered by stylists at Paqui Sanchez Estilistas (hair u

I was delighted to be dressed by Malaga couturist Fatima Ropero from her Mil Maneras (A Thousand Ways) collection. The collection boasts pieces that are wearable and extremely versatile. My show-stopping red number can be worn alone as a dress; with or without belt; with matching trousers or; - as in my case with a contrasting bottom. I went for black and I felt a million dollars in this striking combination. Ashlyn took the opportunity to treat herself to a relaxing and rejuvenating facial to get her ‘party-ready’ on the day at Raul Aguilar Hair & Beauty in Torre Del Mar. u 48 OCIO magazine

Mi impresionante modelo rojo puede llevarse solo, como vestido; con o sin cinturón; con pantalones a juego o – como en mi caso – con una parte inferior que contraste. Yo opté por el negro y me sentí como una millonaria con esta combinación arrolladora. u

Ashlyn’s stunning, classic monochrome ‘Hepburn’ style dress with eye-catching real feather trim by Carla Ruiz was acquired from Patty Moda in Torre Del Mar. This glamorous event has become a firm-standing part of Malaga’s cultural calendar and visitors come from far and wide to watch the shows from designers all around the world. This year was no exception. The who’s who of Haute Couture design in Spain came together to show their collections and enjoy the party! As well as haute Couture, we enjoyed swimwear and bridal collections. For us the standout was the opening collection of bridal wear from Malaga designer Rafael Urquizar. Striking pieces included neat, tuxedo style tailoring, as well as lace, feathers and more. 50 OCIO magazine

We also loved the collection from Baniki by Nicole Kimpel (otherwise known as Antonio Banderas’s partner) and her sister Barbara. The collection included stunning silk kimono style pieces - wearable for all ages and sizes. This event is not to be missed and we’re already looking forward to 2020! Front row seating is largely reserved for designers and VIPs, but otherwise seating along the long blue carpet is free to the general public so we highly recommend you join us next year! After the show we headed to nearby OCIO Magazine favourite - Restaurante Kortxo where we enjoyed some delicious shared plates and plenty more cava! Finally no glamorous evening in Malaga would be complete without a final ‘digestive’ cocktail in the glamorous Speakeasy, The Pharmacy. n

The Cirque Du Soleil Company has returned to Malaga until the 13th October with Kooza, a brand new show full of fantasy, colour and spectacular scenery.

irque du Soleil has returned with the fabulous new show, KOOZA, which is being performed in the Gran Carpa del Recinto Ferial Cortijo de Torres de Málaga, until Sunday October 13 2019. KOOZA is a spectacular and colourful homage to the circus tradition, a return to the circus in its purest form, to its most human part. The show masterfully combines the art of the clown with the most fearless stunts. The show has been created and directed by David Shiner, a regular Cirque du Soleil contributor since 1990 and a winner of prestigious awards with his productions. KOOZA is made up of an international cast of 50 acrobats, musicians, singers and actors. Together they offer us an exciting and colourful presentation with incredible acrobatics and stunts, daring humour and a live soundtrack that fuses jazz, funk and Bollywood rhythms. KOOZA has been represented in more than 20 countries around the world and has surprised and entertained more than 7.5 million people. n

Halloween, Pumpkins and The Legend of ‘Stingy Jack’ E

very October, carved pumpkins peer out from the windows and doorways of houses in almost every town you care to mention. These bright orange fruits inscribed with ghoulish faces and illuminated by candles are a sure sign of the Halloween season. The traditional name given to these decorated pumpkins is a ‘Jack O’Lantern’. People have been making ‘Jack O’Lanterns’ at Halloween for centuries but the practice originated from an Irish myth about a man nicknamed “Stingy Jack.” According to Irish folklore, Stingy Jack invited the Devil to have a drink with him. True to his name, Stingy Jack didn’t want to pay for his drink, so he convinced the Devil to turn himself 54 OCIO magazine

into a coin that Jack could use to buy their drinks. Once the Devil did so, Jack decided to skip paying the drinks bill and instead decided to keep the money. He is said to have put the coin into his pocket next to a silver cross, which prevented the Devil from changing back into his original form. Jack eventually freed the Devil, under the condition that he would not bother Jack for one year and that, should Jack die, he would not claim his soul. The next year, Jack again tricked the Devil into climbing into a tree to pick a piece of fruit. While he was up in the tree, Jack carved a sign of the cross into the tree’s bark so that the Devil could not come down. Again he was only freed once he had promised Jack not to bother him for ten more years.

Soon after, Jack died. As the legend goes, God would not allow such an unsavoury character into heaven. The Devil, upset by the tricks Jack had played on him and keeping his word not to claim his soul, would not allow Jack into hell either. He sent Jack off into the dark night with only a burning coal to light his way. Jack put the coal into a carved out turnip and has been roaming the Earth with it ever since. The Irish began to refer to this ghostly figure as “Jack of the Lantern,” and then, simply “Jack O’Lantern.” In Ireland and Scotland people began to make their own versions of the Jack O’Lantern by carving scary faces into turnips or potatoes and placing them into windows or near doors to frighten away Stingy Jack and other wandering

El diablo, molesto por los engaños de Jack y manteniendo su palabra de no reclamar su alma, tampoco le permitió entrar al infierno. Expulsó a Jack a la oscuridad de la noche con sólo un carbón ardiendo para alumbrar su camino. Jack puso el carbón en un nabo tallado y ha vagado con él por la tierra desde entonces. Los irlandeses comenzaron a llamar a este macabro personaje ‘Jack de la Linterna’, y más tarde simplemente ‘Jack O’Lantern’. En Irlanda y Escocia la gente comenzó a hacer sus propias versiones de ‘Jack O’Lantern’ tallando escalofriantes caras en nabos o patatas, y colocándolas en las ventanas o cerca de las puertas para espantar a Jack el tacaño y otros espíritus malvados. En Inglaterra, se usaban grandes remolachas. Los inmigrantes de estos países llevaron la tradición de ‘Jack O’Lantern’ con ellos hasta los Estados Unidos. SUV, the Toyota RAV4 is a strong choice. The Toyota RAV4 may be a relatively modest seller (in the UK at least), but it is a model with real global significance. Back in 2017, before the last generation RAV4 started to be phased out, it was the fourth best-selling car on the planet – and the best-selling SUV of them all. Over the 25 years since the original RAV4’s debut, though, a plethora of similar vehicles has arrived which of course means that sales have been shared with other models and manufacturers. So for this fifth generation of the RAV4, Toyota has ripped up its rulebook on conservative styling and come up with a sharp-edged, squarewheelarched creation that should stand out a mile. el Toyota RAV4 es una estupenda elección. El Toyota RAV4 puede ser un modelo poco vendido (al menos en el Reino Unido), pero tiene una importancia global real. En 2017, antes de que la última generación del RAV4 comenzara a desaparecer, era el cuarto coche más vendido del planeta, y el SUV más vendido de todos. Sin embargo, en los 25 años transcurridos desde el debut del RAV4 original, ha llegado una plétora de vehículos similares, lo que, por supuesto, ha significado que las ventas se han compartido con otros modelos y fabricantes. But that’s the point; this is a car that will excite some and repel others, and that, for Toyota, is better than to provoke no reaction at all. This individuality doesn’t stop at the styling either, because in the UK at least, the RAV4 is being offered as a hybrid only. Specifically, it’s called a ‘self-charging hybrid’, which is marketing-speak for an electrified vehicle that you can’t plug into a wall socket. In the case of UK RAV4’s, in fact, there is just a single powertrain on offer - referred to by the marketing team as a ‘Dynamic Force’ engine. In reality it’s a 2.5-litre fourcylinder Atkinson-cycle petrol engine paired up with an electric motor, offering 215bhp in front-wheel-drive RAV4s or 219bhp in 4x4 versions. And because this car is hybrid only, it is also automatic only or rather, a CVT only. And CO2 emissions range from 102g/km to 105g/km – no higher. Under it all is yet another iteration of the Toyota New Generation Architecture 60 OCIO magazine

(TNGA) platform - the same modular set of chassis components that has impressed us beneath the C-HR, Prius and Corolla. Toyota is offering the car with four trim levels, Icon, Design, Excel and Dynamic. All in all, this is a well put together vehicle that is trying to be a little different and lead the way in both design and technology. Anyone in the market for an SUV simply must consider this one. n de distancia. ¿Será para todos? individual, denominada por el equipo de marketing como motor “Dynamic Force”. En realidad, se trata de un motor de gasolina de 2,5 litros y cuatro cilindros Atkinson, junto con un motor eléctrico que ofrece 215 CV en los RAV4 de tracción delantera, o 219 CV en las versiones 4x4. Y como este coche es exclusivamente híbrido, también es automático, o mejor dicho, de Transmisión Variable Continua (CVT) en concreto. Y las emisiones de CO2 oscilan entre 102 g/km y 105 g/km - no más. Detrás de todo esto hay otra interesante novedad de la plataforma Toyota New Generation Architecture (TNGA) - la misma serie de componentes de chasis modulares que nos ha impresionado bajo el C-HR, el Prius y el Corolla -. Toyota ofrece el coche con cuatro niveles de acabado: Icono, Diseño, Excel y Dynamic. En definitiva, se trata de un vehículo bien ensamblado, que intenta ser diferente y liderar el camino, tanto en diseño como en tecnología. Cualquier persona que busque un SUV, tiene que considerar esta opción. n

arvey Specter. For those in the know, it’s a name that conjures up a knowing nod of agreement among men and women alike: goddamn, that guy looks good in a suit. If you’ve seen any of the high-stakes legal drama, Suits, (the clue is in the title; and yes, it’s the one that starred Megan Markle), you’ll be familiar with the lead character’s oft-referenced, efficacious persona and swaggering good looks. Harvey Specter is the James Bond of the small-screen courtroom. He’s Don Draper for the Netflix era, and his witty one-liners are Instagram catnip for Monday morning motivational memes. “Sorry I can’t hear you over the sound of how awesome I am”. When Harvey Specter walks into a room, he exudes authority and people listen; he wears the best suits because his suits are his uniform – his superhero cape, if you will – and are all a reminder of what exceptional, well-fitted tailoring can do for a man. We all know that uniforms are aesthetically alluring. ‘All the nice girls love a sailor’, as the old military singalong goes, and just ask a marine. They’ll vouch for the reputation. But, a uniform also has the desired effect of purporting a sense of heroism and power, a dedication to a higher cause. For us metropolis-dwelling civilians, Harvey Specter included, our closest adaptation is a flawless suit. A suit tailored with military precision and worn like a uniform is the armour for any man going into battle in the business world. It’s this uniform approach that dictates many of the style cues of Harvey Specter’s suits. There’s a distinct lack of

For the most part, Harvey Specter opts for a classic business suit look, a two-piece with side vents and polished details such as a sharp close cut, peak lapels and flapped pockets. His shoulders are also usually ‘roped’, meaning there’s a strong overall shape and magnificent roll of firmness in the fabric at the sleeve head, creating a powerful but contemporary silhouette, perfect for his disarming persona. To emulate the character off-screen, buy a suit that avoids exaggerating these proportions. Now, living here on the coast it is fair to say that we don’t have much need for a sharp suit and most of us find ourselves frustrated at the thought of having to put long trousers back on, never mind a suit. But whether it is inen trousers and shirt or cotton shorts and polo shirt, the principles of Harvey Specter still apply.

I would recommend popping your carvings from a ‘carving pumpkin’ into a soup with a flavoursome stock cube or adding them to bulk up a stew. You can eat all of the pumpkin - except for its stalk. Whether you can eat the skin or not depends on the variety. Smaller varieties such as onion squash have deliciously edible skin, the skin of larger varieties may be too tough to eat or less than appealing. For types such as the

butternut squash, whether you eat the skin or not is down to personal taste. Pumpkins are a great source of vitamins A and C, iron and riboflavin. Flesh - this is the part attached to the skin. Peel away the skin and you’ve got a hunk of the good stuff. The flesh of big pumpkins is perfect for soups and curries. The flesh of petit pumpkins, squash and gourds is best suited for pies, breads and cakes - although it’s also delicious in a soup. Smaller pumpkins tend to be more flavoursome, less fibrous and less watery. Remember this when shopping and you will come away with the right pumpkin for your cooking requirements. Aquí está mi guía rápida para cocinar con calabaza. Puedes comer cualquier variedad de calabaza, pero ten en cuenta que algunas variedades varían mucho en sabor. Puede que hayas visto semillas de calabaza etiquetadas como ‘calabazas para tallar’ en algunas tiendas. No dejes que la etiqueta te confunda, estas calabazas son perfectamente comestibles. Sin embargo este tipo de calabaza se ha criado para ser más grande y robusta, con menos carne. Su sabor depende de dónde la compres. He probado algunas buenas y otras que, siendo honestos, no sabían a

nada. Las calabazas para tallar tienden a ser más fibrosas y tienen más agua que otros tipos de calabazas y calabacines. Os recomendaría aprovechar las sobras si talláis una de estas calabazas para hacer una sopa con un cubito de caldo sabroso o añadirlos a un guiso para darle consistencia. Puedes comerte toda la calabaza, excepto el tallo. Poder comer la piel o no dependerá de la variedad. Las variedades más pequeñas, como la calabaza o zapallo cebolla, tienen una piel comestible y deliciosa, mientras que la de otras variedades más grandes puede resultar demasiado dura o poco apetecible. En otros tipos como la calabaza moscada, comer la piel o no dependerá de tu gusto personal. Las calabazas son una

gran fuente de vitaminas A y C, hierro y riboflavina. La carne – es la parte adherida a la piel. Retira la piel y tendrás una buena cantidad de esta. La carne de las calabazas grandes es perfecta para sopas y curris. La carne de las calabazas pequeñas, zapallos y calabacines, es mejor para pasteles, panes y bizcochos – aunque también está deliciosa como sopa. Las calabazas más pequeñas suelen ser más sabrosas, con menos fibra y agua. Recuérdalo cuando vayas a comprarlas para elegir la más adecuada en función de lo que quieras cocinar. Just add carrot, celery and other vegetable trimmings. Seeds - don’t throw away those seeds. They are not only tasty with soups and salads and a convenient snack they are also a wonderfully nutritious food that’s very rich in zinc. They also contain plant compounds known as phytosterols, and free-radical scavenging antioxidants, which can give your health an added boost. Simmer them in salted water for 10 minutes and then bake in a hot oven until brown. When carving your pumpkin, scrape out the insides and steam (or blanche) these bits of pumpkin flesh and freeze them for another day. Steamed pumpkin flesh and raw pumpkin flesh will last a few days in the fridge. Once your carved pumpkin has been sitting around a while, its face will start to droop and you can’t safely eat it. An uncarved pumpkin will last quite a while. They are best stored in a cool dry place on top of a towel. start leaking liquid. Sometimes you just can’t save ‘em all. Especially if your ‘Jack O Lantern’ is beginning to look little down in the mouth. If you can’t eat your pumpkin, at least do the decent thing and get him to a compost heap. I have mentioned pumpkin soup a few times so I thought it would be a nice idea to give you one of my soup recipes for you to try at home. This is a tasty and hearty soup that is perfect to make after carving the pumpkins with your family and friends. This recipe serves 4 persons. Ingredients *250g butter *1 small onion - finely diced *800g pumpkin, peeled and cut into chunks *1 teaspoon of runny honey *15g grated root ginger *1 Vegetable stock cube dissolved in 750ml boiling water *100ml single cream *Black pepper, to taste *2 tablespoons freshly chopped coriander Once the soup is prepared you may like to add any or all of these as a topping to your soup before serving Pumpkin seeds saved from pumpkin

Drizzle of cream Salt, to taste Pepper, to taste So you have your ingredients, now, what to do with them? *Preheat the oven to 200oC. Lay foil on an oven safe dish and spread the pumpkin seeds, add a splash of olive oil, salt, and pepper to taste. Put in the oven to toast for 40 minutes. *Melt the butter in a large saucepan. Add the onions and pumpkin and cook on medium heat for 3-4 minutes until the vegetables soften but do not brown. *Add the honey, ginger, and vegetable stock and bring to the boil. Simmer for 1520 minutes until the pumpkin is soft. *Stir in most of the single cream and place in a food processor. Blend until smooth. Season to taste with black pepper. *Serve garnished with a swirl of the remaining single cream, a sprinkle of coriander if desired, and the toasted pumpkin seeds. This soup is great served with a chunk of crusty bread. Try giving this great soup a touch of heat by adding 1 finely chopped red chilli and one crushed clove of garlic in with the onions. Cuécelas en agua salada durante 10 minutos y después mételas en el horno ya caliente hasta que se tuesten. Cuando talles tu calabaza, raspa el interior y cuece al vapor (o escalda) las virutas de carne de calabaza y refrigéralas para otro día. La carne de calabaza, cruda o al vapor, te durará unos días en la nevera. Una vez que hayas usado la calabaza tallada como decoración durante unos días, empezará a estropearse y no podrás comerla. Pero una calabaza sin tallar te durará bastante tiempo. Es mejor conservarlas en un lugar fresco y seco sobre un paño. Cuando una calabaza se estropea, primero se reblandece por la base y después comienza a gotear líquido. A veces no podrás aprovecharla entera. Sobre todo si tu calabaza tallada empieza a ponerse blanda por la base. Si no puedes comértela, al menos haz lo correcto y tírala en una compostera. Ya he mencionado la sopa de calabaza unas cuantas veces, por lo que sería buena idea daros una de mis recetas de sopa para que la probéis en casa. Esta es una sopa sabrosa y contundente, perfecta para prepararla con tu familia o amigos después de tallar vuestras calabazas. Esta receta es para 4 personas. Ingredientes *250g de mantequilla *1 cebolla pequeña – en dados pequeños *800g de calabaza, pelada y cortada en trozos *1 cucharada pequeña de miel líquida *15g de jengibre rallado *1 pastilla de caldo vegetal disuelta en 750ml de agua hirviendo *100ml nata baja en calorías *Pimienta negra, al gusto *2 cucharadas de cilantro fresco picado Una vez que la sopa esté preparada

puede que le quieras añadir uno o todos estos ingredientes como aderezo antes de servirla Las pipas reservadas de la calabaza Unas gotas de nata Sal, al gusto Pimienta, al gusto Así que ya tenemos los ingredientes, ahora, ¿qué hacemos con ellos? *Precalienta el horno a 200ºC. Extiende papel de aluminio en una bandeja para horno y esparce las semillas, añade un chorro de aceite de oliva, sal y pimienta al gusto. Tuéstalas en el horno durante 40 minutos. *Derrite la mantequilla en una olla grande. Añade la cebolla y la calabaza y cocínalas a fuego medio durante 3-4 minutos hasta

que se pochen sin llegar a oscurecerse. *Añade la miel, el jengibre y la pastilla de caldo y llévalo a ebullición. Cuécelo durante 15-20 minutos hasta que la calabaza esté blanda. *Mezcla la nata y echa todo en un triturador. Bátelo todo hasta que quede suave. Aderézalo al gusto con pimienta negra. *Sírvela acompañada con unas gotas de la nata sobrante, y espolvorea el cilantro y las semillas tostadas a tu gusto. Esta sopa queda genial con pan tostado como guarnición. Intenta darle un toque de calor a esta maravillosa sopa añadiendo un chili rojo cortado muy fino y un diente de ajo triturado junto a la cebolla. Feliz Halloween a todos. n OCIO magazine
