rave Kids is a story that tackles important topics which many youngsters and adults can identify with. Domestic violence, oppression of women, patriarchal stereotypes, a mother’s struggle to save her son, racism, will power and positive thinking, the love between two young people who belong to different castes, the victory of benevolence. Ravi is a 12-year-old boy who lives in Kerala, in the 80’s India. When his dad gets unemployed, he becomes violent towards his wife and child. Then, despite her fears and adversities, Ravis’s mother escapes with her son to rebuild a new life without violence. Throughout their adventure they encounter many difficulties but also people who help them. They cross paths with Ananya and her wealthy family and they build lifelong relationships. Ananya is a modern girl with love for knowledge and justice. When she falls in love with Ravi, she challenges traditions and patriarchal structures. Are they going to manage to overcome the difficulties and find happiness in the end?

Nina Lund (Nina Ladopoulou Lundqvist) is a writer, English teacher, translator and theatrologist. For the last 14 years she’s been living in Stockholm and she’s been working as an English teacher at a Swedish school. When she became a mother, she wrote her first children’s book entitled ’’Snowflake wants to be the new Snow White’’. The book was published in Greek, English, Swedish and Spanish. Chapter 1

A

long time ago, in faraway India, there lived a boy called Ravi. His name meant sun, fire, strength. He lived in a small village in Kerala, a seaside place in the southwest part of India. The village had a lot of natural gifts to offer; exotic fruits and vegetables, an abundance of mangos, watermelon, ginger and coconuts. All kinds of flowers like jasmines, tuberoses, marigolds, and roses decorated the surroundings and the marketplace. Huge piles of fragrant spices of turmeric, chili, cinnamon, cardamon and sandalwood dominated the street market. His mother worked at a plantation where they cultivated cinnamon, cardamom, carnation and black pepper. His dad was a fisherman. Every morning he got up early to catch different sorts of fish in the Kerala Backwaters’ lakes and canals with his little fishing boat.
