VANDALISM INVESTIGATED The Berlin Police Department is following up on a graffiti spree this week after vandalism was discovered Tuesday morning throughout Berlin, including at the Evergreen Lodge on Main Street, spray painted campaign signs, street signs and at least one vehicle. The anti-Trump messages appeared in various parts of town. The suspects were seen on video spray painting the Evergreen Lodge and leaving the scene and similar paint was used at the other locations. If you have any information or additional camera footage, please contact the Berlin Police Department at 410-641-1333 and speak with an officer.

By Tara Fischer Staff Writer (April 16, 2026) The Berlin Town Council has agreed to a $1.9 million contract to replace aging lead water lines along Williams Street. The body also agreed to transfer funds from another town project to cover the initiative’s budgetary shortfall. Nicholas Bradley from the town’s engineering consultant Davis, Bowel & Friedel reported receiving a single bid for the project from Teal Construction, with a base bid of $1.9 million and an alternative add-on bid of $1.4 million. The base bid would fund full lead water line replacements for homes along Williams Street. The base bid with the additional work would cost the town a hefty $3.38 million. Gillis gets extension on developing park property By Tara Fischer Staff Writer (April 16, 2026) Efforts to revitalize an abandoned industrial property in Berlin are continuing — for now — after municipal leaders complied with the developer’s request for more time to establish property line details and finalize building permits, environmental procedures and trans-

portation processes. Developer Palmer Gillis, who formed Coastal Venture Properties LLC with his wife, Sandy, to redevelop the former Tyson Foods property at Heron Park, warned last week that they would abandon the deal with the town if the town refuses to grant him an unconditional extension See GILLIS Page 14

Planned renovations to the old buildings and a complete site overhaul are pictured.
