A 39-year-old Linwood woman was airlifted to hospital in Hamilton in critical condition after the van she was driving collided with another van on Line 86, near Herrgott Road, shortly after 9 a.m. on Jan. 23. A 24-year-old St. Clements man was driving a 1998 Ford van westbound on Line 86 when he lost control on the icy roadway and crossed over the center line, striking an eastbound Chevrolet van head-on.

The St. Clements man was not injured. His male passenger suffered non-lifethreatening injuries, and was taken to Grand River Hospital for assessment. The Linwood driver of the Chevrolet van, however, sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported by air ambulance to Hamilton General Hospital. The roadway was closed by police for some six hours as they investigated the incident; charges are pending. Anyone with information is asked to contact the traffic services branch of the Waterloo Regional police at 519-6537700, ext. 8856 or 8857.

Wellesley’s desire for muchneeded infrastructure money made for a busy week. Councillors and staff endorsed a number of resolutions passed by neighbouring municipalities, attended a meeting with the Liberal Urban Communities Caucus in Kitchener Jan. 22, and drafted letters to provincial and federal members of parliament. The township wants senior governments to increase funding for road and bridge repairs, and a host of similar projects. In a letter written on behalf of the township and FFSCO (Fair Funding for Small Communities of Ontario), Mayor Ross Kelterborn urged MPs and MPPs to eliminate the competitive nature of existing grant programs. “Small and rural municipalities have limited resources available to fund deteriorating infrastructure required to serve the needs of the backbone of this province, the rural resident,â€? Kelterborn wrote. In the same letter, he voiced disappointment over the absence of government members at FFSCO meetings. “Leisa Way’s portrayal of Patsy Cline must be unprecendented..no one has come as close as Way in emulating the essence, the voice and the passion of the country music legend. Way causes shivers with her grandiose voice. ---Banner Review
