Elmira’s St. Teresa school to see $1.8-million expansion
COLIN DEWAR
New classrooms part of project expected to start in July and run through rest of the year STEVE KANNON An expansion is in the works for St. Teresa elementary school in Elmira, with $1.8 million earmarked to provide new classrooms, administrative offices and change rooms. Already making use of portables, the school expects to see increased enrolment as Elmira grows, with demand for space likely to exceed capacity by 100 students within a decade. Since the Waterloo Catholic District School Board had plans in place to add another kindergarten room thanks to $430,000 in provincial funding, trustees last month decided there were savings to be had by combining all of the additions into one project, committing another $1.4 million. Dave Bennett, the board’s senior manager of capital planning, said work is expected to get underway in July. Everything is in place for the kindergarten expansion, and he hopes to have the details sorted out for the larger portion of the project in time to start that construction on the same date. Work on the kindergarten portion is expectst. teresa | 2

Elmira, however, easily skated away with a 5-2 victory over the Cyclones Wednesday night at the WMC. Brett Priestap provided the heroics, scoring two goals in the second period to give the Kings a two-goal advantage. Listowel was first on the scoreboard, catching Elmira off guard and tallying a goal just 12 seconds in. The visitors went on to post a 2-1 advantage after the first 20 minutes. The atmosphere was electric once game time arrived at the Dan Snyder Arena and the Kings wanted to keep the raucous environment alive. The game was fierce and physical in the first period as both teams tried to establish themselves in that department. After Listowel's first goal there weren’t many excellent scoring chances early on. But at 7:53 Listowel scored
