Dear Oakwood Members,

As we turn the calendar to May, the season at Oakwood is officially in full swing — and we couldn't be more excited for everything ahead.

April brought more rain than usual, and we truly appreciate your patience through it all. The silver lining? We're expecting beautiful conditions and some of the best golf of the year this month. The course is ready, and so are we.

We kick off the month with a New Member Happy Hour and our Derby Celebration before carrying the momentum into a wonderful Mother's Day Brunch. We then round out May in the best possible way with the pool opening and Memorial Day festivities marking the official start of the Oakwood season.

With the Club buzzing with familiar faces, perfect spring weather on the horizon, and a calendar packed with things to look forward to, May is shaping up to be truly outstanding. We look forward to seeing you out here and sharing every moment of it together.

LOOKING AHEAD AT 2026 GOLF SEASON

Wow! It’s crazy how quickly May has arrived, and summer is already in full swing. April was a great month at the club, despite the rainy days. Now is the time to elevate our experience as we welcome this new month. May is packed with exciting events—here are some must-mark dates you won't want to miss:

May 2nd: The Oakwood Derby

May 7th: Men’s Spring Guest Day

May 8th: Spring Couples Twilight

May 17th: Couples Member-Guest Tournament

May 25th: Players Championship (Open to all club members)

May 26th: Callaway Fitting Day

Additionally, our Ladies and Men’s Leagues have officially kicked off this season. We’re also thrilled to launch the 2026 Year-Long Events, including the Match Play Series, The Ringer Board, and King of the Hill. Plus, a brand-new twist with the Year-Long Match Play on the Par 3 course!

While we have an exciting lineup of events ahead, let’s remember to prioritize maintaining our course and keeping it in pristine condition. Here are some important reminders:

Always allow faster groups to play through.

Repair divots on the greens, making sure to address nearby areas as well. Use the sand bottles on the carts to fill divots on fairways and tee boxes.

Pick up divots from the fairways and deposit them in the provided containers

We’ve got a full lineup of small-group clinics this May focused on sharpening every part of your game. All sessions require a minimum of 4 players, and are capped at 6 players to ensure personalized coaching and maximum reps.

Registration is available through the CoachNow platform, which can be accessed directly via the Oakwood App.

Once you’re enrolled, you’ll also receive follow-up coaching, notes, and key takeaways from Coach Mo inside the CoachNow app—so you’re not just attending a clinic, you’re continuing to improve after it.

Oakwood Agronomy Report From the Course

“April showers bring May flowers” and this year certainly delivered. We received approximately 9.5 inches of rain throughout the month, which has slowed turf team productivity. As a result, you may notice areas where mowing frequency has been impacted due to limited access and wet conditions.

One of the most visible challenges right now is zoysia seedhead production. These appear in the fairways as purple flowers or white shoots. Seedheads have a wiry texture, and when mowed, they often turn white because the mower blades are not cleanly cutting them, but rather tearing them. This is a temporary visual issue and a natural part of the turf’s growth cycle.

Looking ahead, our new equipment package is expected to begin arriving within the next two weeks. Once delivery timelines are confirmed, we will carefully evaluate weather patterns and temperatures to strategically plan our work. Our goal is to maximize productivity in a way that benefits turf conditions long-term, while avoiding setbacks from heat, cool spells, or dry periods.

Overall, we’ve had a successful spring, and we’re optimistic about continued favorable growing conditions. Increased growth will allow us to further improve our zoysia fairways, setting them up for both immediate playability and long-term health.

As always, please note that cultivation practices may result in temporary reductions in playing conditions, but these efforts are essential for maintaining strong, healthy turf for the future.
