Summer is in full swing at Oakwood, and July is shaping up to be one of our most exciting months of the year!

We're looking forward to celebrating with many of you at our Independence Day Buffet & Fireworks Celebration, where we're expecting record-breaking attendance of more than 600 members and guests It's always one of the highlights of the summer, and we can't wait to kick off the holiday weekend with great food, family fun, and our biggest fireworks show yet

The fun doesn't stop there! Throughout July, we'll be hosting several family pool parties, giving everyone more opportunities to cool off, connect, and enjoy the sunshine. We're also excited to introduce our first-ever Family Golf Tournament a fun and welcoming event designed to bring golfers of all ages and skill levels together for an afternoon on the course.

Wine lovers won't want to miss our Santa Barbara Wine Weekend, featuring tastings, special events, and exceptional wines from one of California's most celebrated wine regions Whether you're a seasoned enthusiast or simply looking to enjoy a summer evening with friends, there's something for everyone Summer Camp is heading into its final three weeks, and it's been wonderful seeing so many young members making new friends, learning new skills, and creating lasting memories. If you have children or grandchildren looking for a little more summer fun, there's still time to join us before camp wraps up.

Finally, be sure to mark your calendars for our Ladies' Guest Day and Men's Guest Day. These signature golf events are the perfect opportunity to invite friends to experience everything Oakwood has to offer while enjoying outstanding golf, hospitality, and camaraderie

Dear Oakwood Members,

It is hard to believe that June has already passed, and we are already halfway through the summer. We have enjoyed a fantastic season so far, filled with exciting events and plenty of fun activities around the club.

As the summer heat continues, we ask for your help in caring for the golf course by raking and replacing divots, repairing ball marks, and following cart traffic signage. These small efforts go a long way in helping us maintain excellent playing conditions for everyone.

As we move into July, we have a full calendar of golf activities and events planned for both the Big Course and the Par 3 Course. Please see the upcoming schedule below:

Congratulations to Our Newlyweds!

Congratulations to Cindy and Tom Sullivan on their recent marriage!

The couple first met two and a half years ago, and after their first date at Grünauer in Kansas City, they knew they had found something special. Their love story continued with a beautiful proposal on Mackinac Island last year, and they tied the knot on June 26, 2026 (6.26.26) a fitting date chosen because of their shared appreciation of palindromes

We wish Cindy and Tom a lifetime filled with love, laughter, and many wonderful adventures together. Congratulations to the happy couple!

Congratulations to the Clark Family!

Congratulations to Morgan and Michael Clark on the arrival of their beautiful twins, James Danton Clark and Molly Maddox Clark, born on June 26, 2026!

James arrived at 5:56 p.m., weighing 5 lbs. 8 oz. and measuring 18 inches, followed just six minutes later by Molly at 6:02 p.m., also weighing 5 lbs. 8 oz. and measuring 18½ inches

We're also happy to hear that big sister Charlotte is embracing her new role beautifully!

Member Spotlight

HAYDEN HORSMAN CONTINUES REMARKABLE 2026 SEASON

At just 11 years old, Oakwood's Hayden Horsman is putting together a very impressive junior golf season. Hayden has demonstrated remarkable consistency and composure, winning across multiple tours while frequently competing against older players.

2026 Highlights:

Won all seven U.S. Kids Golf events in the 11–12 age division, averaging under par for the season.

Won all three Northwest Junior Tour events while playing up in the 12–13 age division, again averaging under par.

Captured the U S Kids Missouri State Invitational Championship (11–12 division)

Won the prestigious Pepsi Little People's Tournament in Quincy, Illinois (10–11 division) Finished tied for 2nd in her only Central Links Golf event, shooting 35 (-1) in the 12 & Under division against a field consisting entirely of boys

Fired a personal-best 18-hole tournament round of 65 (-7) at Blue Springs Country Club.

Shot a personal-best 9-hole tournament round of 29 (-6) at The Watson 9 at Mozingo Lake.

Qualified for the Notah Begay Regional Championship with a 70 (-1) at Hodge Park, becoming the only player in any age division to finish at or under par.

Won the local Drive, Chip & Putt competition with a score of 117, capturing first place in all three skills.

Attended the Oklahoma State Golf Camp, where she won the Girls Camp Championship by four strokes despite being the youngest girl in the field, competing against high school players

Hayden's work ethic, competitive spirit, and commitment to improvement continue to set an incredible example for Oakwood's junior golfers. We are proud to have her represent Oakwood Country Club and look forward to cheering her on as she continues what has already been an unforgettable season.

Turf Operations Update –

July 2026

July is here, bringing peak summer conditions and some of the most demanding weather of the year for turfgrass performance. High temperatures, increased humidity, and occasional dry periods make this one of the most important months for maintaining healthy playing conditions and protecting long-term turf quality.

Our focus this month is centered on plant health, moisture management, surface consistency, and proactive stress reduction.

July Maintenance Priorities Water Management

Water remains our most valuable tool during summer stress periods. Irrigation scheduling will continue to be adjusted based on weather conditions, soil moisture levels, and turf performance.

Key objectives:

Maintain consistent moisture while avoiding overwatering

Target deep, efficient watering cycles

Monitor localized dry spots and address as needed

Hand-water high-stress and hightraffic areas

Afternoon hand watering will be an important part of our daily course maintenance during this period. We kindly ask all golfers to be mindful of our Agronomy Team and allow them a moment to complete their work on the greens before playing into them They will clear the putting surface as quickly as possible, and we greatly appreciate your patience and courtesy as they help keep the course in excellent condition.

Mowing Operations

Mowing practices will continue to support healthy growth and consistent playing conditions.

This month’s focus:

Maintain proper mowing heights to reduce plant stress

Adjust frequency based on growth rates and weather

Rotate mowing patterns to minimize wear

Monitor equipment quality of cut daily

All may be adjusted on turf quality as we see day to day.

Fertility & Plant Health

Cultural Practices

Selective cultural practices remain essential during summer months.

Planned activities may include: Light grooming where conditions allow Venting or small-tine aerification to improve gas exchange

Spot topdressing to maintain smoothness and surface quality

Traffic management and recovery efforts

Summer fertility programs are designed to support turf without encouraging excessive growth.

Current strategies:

Spoon-feeding nutrients as needed

Monitoring for nutrient deficiencies

Supporting root function during heat stress

Applying preventative plant health products when appropriate

Pest & Disease Monitoring

July conditions can increase pressure from turf diseases and insect activity.

Our team will continue:

Daily scouting and monitoring

Early identification of disease pressure

Tracking environmental conditions

Applying treatments only when necessary

Heat Stress Awareness

Extended periods above normal temperatures place additional strain on turfgrass. During these conditions, maintenance priorities may shift to preserve turf health and maintain safe, consistent conditions.

You may notice:

Increased hand watering

Adjusted mowing schedules

Temporary changes to maintenance timing

Additional recovery practices in high-use areas
