Inanycase, itdoesnotdetractfromthe gravityofthecircumstances enduredbybothpartiesfor prolongedperiods. OnJune25, 1950, theinitialattackfrom NorthKoreamarkedthe beginningofaconflictthat wouldravageonforthree harrowingyears, undertheaid receivedfromtheUnitedStates andSovietUnion, which assistedSouthandNorthKorea respectively. Thefighting officiallyendedonJuly27th, 1953 yetitsrepercussions lingeredforyearstofollow.

Throughoutmy researchontheKoreanWar, I havegainedinsightintothe complexitiesofinternational alliances, politicalintricacies, andtherapidescalationof conflicts. Thisexperiencehas mademeawareofthe multifacetednatureofwar involvingpeople, nations, ideologies, infrastructure, and governance. Thewarโ€™simpact

onmyidentityasaSouth Koreanhasbeenprofound, connectingmetothestruggles andresilienceofmyancestors. Anexamplewouldbemy grandfather, whohadpassed awayfightingthiswar, which leftmygrandmothertosupport herfamilyinatimeoftragedy. Intermsofmyperspectiveon currentinternationalconflicts, it shapedmyviewsregarding contemporaryfeuds, highlightingtheenduring importanceofseemingly forgottenwars. TheKoreanWarwas importantbecauseitwasthe firstconfrontationbetweenthe superpowersUSandthe SovietUnion. TheKoreanWar wasagruesomechallengethat ledapoorcountrytohavean absolutepovertyrate.
