Champions of Excellence: Recognizing Outstanding Contributions to Indigenous Education Nicola Valley Institute of Technology (NVIT) proudly congratulates three exceptional members of our community for their recent achievements in advancing Indigenous education and fostering community connections. Firstly, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Sue Sterling-Bur, Vice President of Students, and Dr. Aruna Gore, Dean, for being honored with the League Excellence Awards from the League for Innovation in the Community College. The League for Innovation has been a steadfast advocate for innovation in learning, teaching, and student success for over 50 years. Their Excellence Awards recognizes individuals who have significantly impacted students' lives and their communities through outstanding contributions to community colleges. Sue and Aruna's dedication to student success and community engagement truly embody the spirit of these prestigious awards. Additionally, we celebrate James Beck, Associate Dean at NVIT, for receiving the Unified Award from the Capilano University Alumni Association (CUAA). As a proud member of the Sḵwx̱ wú7mesh (Squamish) Nation, James has demonstrated exemplary leadership in fostering understanding and collaboration between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities. His commitment to bringing diverse perspectives together and finding innovative solutions exemplifies the essence of the Unified brand at Capilano University. James' dedication to advancing education, particularly for Indigenous learners, is evident in his roles at NVIT and his active involvement with Capilano University. His journey, rooted in ancestral territory, serves as an inspiration to all who seek to create positive change through education.

As we celebrate the achievements of Sue, Aruna, and James, we are reminded of the profound impact their work has on our institution and the broader community. Their commitment to the excellence and their passion for Indigenous education enriches the lives of students and strengthens the fabric of our society. Continued on Next Page
