GRADUATION KEYNOTE SPEAKER
Lord Karan Bilimoria
Lord Karan Bilimoria CBE DL has built a career on the conviction that determination, vision, and a willingness to cross geographic, cultural, and institutional borders are the defining qualities of consequential leadership. His life is a testament to that belief.
Bilimoria’s entrepreneurial journey began with £20,000 of debt and a single product; today, Cobra Beer is a globally recognized brand sold in more than 45 countries and is among the most awarded beers in the world. That same pioneering instinct has carried him from the boardroom to the highest levels of British public life: in 2006, he was appointed Lord Bilimoria of Chelsea, becoming the first-ever Zoroastrian Parsi to sit in the House of Lords.
His impact on British business and civic life has been equally distinctive. He served as president of the Confederation of British Industry from 2020 to 2022, and in January 2025 was appointed chair of the International Chamber of Commerce United Kingdom, placing him at the center of the most influential conversations about global business and economic policy. He is also the founding chairman of the UK India Business Council—a role that reflects his longstanding commitment to strengthening the ties between nations dependent on global commerce.
Lord Bilimoria’s dedication to international education is both personal and institutional. As the seventh chancellor of the University of Birmingham from 2014 to 2024—the first Indianborn chancellor of a Russell Group university—he championed the value of global education at the highest levels of academic leadership. He has continued that work as co-chair of the International Students All-Party Parliamentary Group and as president of the UK Council for International Student Affairs, and he serves as patron of the National Indian Students and Alumni Union.
At every stage of a career defined by firsts, Lord Bilimoria has brought a rare combination of scholarly rigor, entrepreneurial boldness, and the deep belief that the barriers facing immigrants, international students, and first-generation entrepreneurs are the ones most worth breaking.
Lord Bilimoria holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Osmania University and a law degree from Sidney Sussex College, University of Cambridge. He is a qualified chartered accountant through the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales, with training at Ernst & Young. He is also an alumnus of the Cranfield School of Management, London Business School, and Harvard Business School through executive education, and has been awarded 12 honorary doctorates. He is currently pursuing a business doctorate at the Cambridge Judge Business School.

Undergraduate Student Speakers
Vyom Agarwal BSc Economics
Vyom Agarwal is an Economics Honours graduate from Northeastern University London, originally from Calcutta, India, where he chaired three youth initiatives focusing on uplifting the lives of the underprivileged, reflecting a commitment to community that extended well beyond campus.
During his time at Northeastern London, he built a reputation as one of the more involved students on campus, serving as President of the Finance Society, a student ambassador, and a Husky Committee member. In that last role, he helped shape the student experience and represent the university at events both in London and abroad, including international recruitment events in New Delhi. As a student ambassador and Husky, Agarwal played an active role in growing the Northeastern London community globally, sharing what student life looks like and connecting prospective students with the university’s vision.
Northeastern’s co-op model gave Agarwal early exposure to the professional world, and he made the most of it. Across three placements in finance and consulting, he worked with four startups simultaneously alongside his degree and completed a strategy analyst co-op at Z/Yen Group, under the leadership of Former Lord Mayor Michael Mainelli in the City of London.
Now a graduate, Agarwal is stepping into a full-time role in the City of London, where he plans to deepen his expertise in finance and consulting before taking his next big step.
Cara Mack BSc Business
Originally from Wake Forest, North Carolina, Cara Mack began her journey at Northeastern University London as a Global Scholar. Following that programme, she decided to join the Northeastern University London Campus full-time to pursue her degree in business. At Northeastern London, she has been a part of the Student Union, serving as Administrative Vice President. Mack has also participated in the Husky Ambassador Committee Member scheme, focusing on campus tours and training new ambassadors, and the Northeastern’s Young Entrepreneurs society as a Director of the Consulting Challenge. Her academic and professional focus through university has been on finance, specifically corporate governance and financial crime prevention.
Mack will continue on to Boston to take part in the dual-degree programme to obtain her U.S. bachelor’s degree and experience a New England hockey season. She plans to remain an active and involved student on campus, taking the opportunity to experience the various student organisations Northeastern offers. Mack is currently studying for the U.S. Law School Admission Test with the goal of becoming a practising corporate attorney, hoping to work between the U.S. and abroad in her future career.

Postgraduate Student Speaker
Dara Teymoorifar
MSc Project Management
After completing his bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering in Iran, Dara Teymoorifar began his career in project control within the construction industry. His career later shifted toward event management, particularly astronomy-related ones. These experiences inspired him to pursue a degree in Project Management at Northeastern University London, where he made an effort to become actively involved in university life, taking part in taster lectures and other university activities. Through developing a deeper understanding of project management and project control he came to realise that many of these principles could be applied not only to professional projects but also to various aspects of everyday life.
Building on his previous experience and long-standing interest in astronomy, Teymoorifar currently works as an astronomer at the Royal Observatory Greenwich, contributing to astronomy-related projects and activities. At the same time, he is seeking opportunities where he can apply his project management knowledge and skills in practice. His experience at Northeastern London has been an important part of his personal and professional journey, and he is especially keen to maintain a strong connection with the university and remain actively involved in its community. One question still remains, however: can project management and astronomy somehow be unified? Teymoorifar is determined to find out!

Theo Jacob Summerfield

Digital and Technology Solutions (Business Analyst)
Originally from Milton Keynes, England, Theo Summerfield began his journey at Northeastern University as a Degree Apprentice. During the programme, he supported Northeastern London with the launch of a new bootcamp designed to aid degree apprentice students with the transition from college to university. He also assisted the campus teams with several alumni events, helping to integrate new students. Within his work, Summerfield helped Network Rail build a talent pipeline that now engages and informs young people about alternative degree options available to them while they are still in secondary school. His academic and professional focus through university has been IT systems, specifically how large organisations can use them to save costs and improve efficiency.
Summerfield has just secured a new role within Network Rail, where he is leading the digital transformation of its seasonal rail fleet team; alongside this, he is currently studying on Northeastern London’s L7 Masters Apprenticeship programme with a continued focus on the integration of IT systems within large organisations. He plans to continue supporting apprentice students on campus, and building his professional network within Northeastern London, Network Rail, and beyond. Summerfield plans to continue building his corporate portfolio, with the ultimate end goal of moving to the U.S. to work for a large organisation.

Lecturer in Mathematics
Dr Tim Davis embodies teaching excellence. Through innovative lectures, undergraduate enrichment events, a faculty seminar series, and schools’ outreach, he consistently goes above and beyond. His work on dyslexia and mathematics reflects a deep, genuine commitment to every student’s success.
Faculty of Humanities: Dr Laura Acosta-Ortega
Assistant Professor and Head of Modern Languages
Dr Laura Acosta-Ortega achieved 100 percent in student satisfaction across every course she taught this year, from L4 to postgraduate. She led on AI mapping across eight disciplines at the university and has also built what may be is a first-of-its-kind multi-level language elective model in the sector.
Centre for Apprenticeships: Dr Lyne Jossé
Associate Professor in Clinical Trials, Deputy Academic Director in the Centre for Apprenticeships
Dr Lyne Jossé is recognised for her outstanding teaching in the fields of healthcare and clinical trials; her ongoing commitment to excellence; and her significant contribution to improving the learning experience for all apprentices at Northeastern University London.
Faculty of Social Sciences: Dr Gergana Dimova
Associate Professor in International Relations
Dr Gergana Dimova is an invaluable faculty member whose positive, team-oriented attitude, and leadership of large courses exemplify strong collegiality. Her passion, energy, and willingness to support others have also been central to the Accelerate Pre-College programme for two years running.
Faculty of Humanities: Dr. Ioannis Votsis
Professor in Philosophy
Dr. Ioannis Votsis has made outstanding contributions to the university through teaching, service, and research. His Logic Calculator app has opened up complex material to students from all backgrounds. As a trade union representative, he has worked constructively alongside management to support positive working conditions. His research has appeared in leading journals, and he has brought distinction to the university through his leadership of Northeastern London’s Computational Philosophy Lab.

Leadership Prize
Domestic: Vyom Agarwal
Vyom Agarwal has demonstrated outstanding leadership as a Student Ambassador and Husky Ambassador Committee member. He led the design of a comprehensive campus tour across Devon House and Portsoken, developing and delivering the supporting ambassador training. As a Convocation student speaker, leader of the Lydian Society, and active presence in the startup hub, his dedication has had a meaningful impact on fellow students and the wider university community, making him an exemplary model of the student leadership this award seeks to recognise.
Apprenticeship: Hannah Barnes
Hannah Barnes is the inaugural Apprenticeship Learners Officer for the Students’ Union, and over the past year she has worked to define this new role and make the Union more relevant to apprentices. She has introduced on-campus study days to strengthen learners’ sense of belonging and engaged with university leadership to improve the apprentice experience. Barnes’s efforts to forge a closer relationship between the Student Union and the Apprenticeship cohort demonstrates a pioneering spirit that deserves to be celebrated.
Ambassador of the Year
Joint Winners: Vyom Agarwal and Kaylee Burkett
Vyom Agarwal has consistently shown great initiative throughout all the events he has supported. His charisma and sense of humour help create a welcoming and positive atmosphere during campus tours, and he has always been willing to help in any way he can— even during the hottest summer days.
Kaylee Burkett has been exceptional throughout the academic year, during which she has been consistently prepared, self-directed, and composed under pressure, with a natural instinct for anticipating what is needed before being asked. Her guest service is particularly notable: warm and professional in equal measure, and genuinely attentive to every individual she encounters.
Level 4: Brynn Emery
Brynn Emery has had an outstanding first year, achieving 80+ across her courses while contributing meaningfully during every session. As a first-year, she put herself forward to present at a student conference at UCL. Within the philosophy community, she has been a constant presence, attending film nights, the Dennett lecture, Ioannis’ inaugural, the Devon House book launch, and Computational Philosophy Lab events. Beyond her studies, she has taken on paid work with Enrolment Management and is heavily involved in the Students’ Union and wider student life.
Level 5: Amanda Stephens
Amanda Stephens is an excellent learner who consistently demonstrates both academic and professional engagement, regularly submitting formative assessments and actively engaging with peers and faculty. Earlier this academic year, she was awarded a Learner Commendation from the Centre for Apprenticeships for exceptional contributions to the apprenticeship community, and she went on to be named a Finalist in the Apprentice of the Year category at the 2026 Apprenticeship Guide Awards—a well-deserved recognition of her commitment and achievement.
Level 6: Sunny Neal
Despite being the only learner in his cohort for much of his final year, Sunny Neal maintained an exceptional academic trajectory, engaging consistently with seminars, his capstone supervisor, and 1:1 EPA preparation sessions. His capstone project achieved 85%, reflecting a professional standard of planning, implementation, and reporting. He then became our first ever apprentice to achieve a distinction in his EPA, a remarkable result requiring distinctionlevel performance across every single category, spanning scientific knowledge, regulatory understanding, data integrity, statistical analysis, and professional communication.
