From the President The North Texas Home Builders Association is always trying to bring positive news to its members. After Teri, Michael and I attended the Annual Chamber meeting on January 27th we were able to walk away with a lot of encouragement. The overall goal of the meeting was to review 2015 and see what lies ahead for 2016. The meeting began with the chamber recognizing their incoming board chairman Dwayne Bivona, President of Times Record News, presented a new award created by the Chamber, Member of the Year to architect Dick Bunday and past chairman Chuck White from First Bank spoke about the accomplishments of the Chamber and the staff members it takes to get the job done. The meeting went on with special guest speakers, Judge Woody Gossom who mentioned some of the issues they were able to take care of in 2015 and items they are working toward in 2016 such as new software for booking inmates as well as financial software and new super voting precincts are in the works. They will also be working toward building a justice center to address jail and court security and safety issues. On a very positive note 82nd Training Wing vice Commander Col. Timothy Gillaspie said Sheppard Air Force Base will be getting ready to celebrate three milestones: the 75th anniversary, the 50th anniversary of the German air force training at SAFB, and the 35th year of the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training program. A huge celebration will take place in September. Vice commander Gillaspie mentioned the Air Force is at its smallest manning level since World War II. This was recognized by Congress and the Air Staff last year. Their goal now is to grow. About 10,000 instructors and students will be coming to SAFB over the next few years. Dr. Shipley with MSU mentioned they will continue to expand with a new dormitory, expansion of buildings, putting artificial turf on the drought worn fields and also building an adult learning center in Ft. Darron Leiker talked about the city's success with the potable direct use project created to help survive the drought. The city is now looking forward to proceeding with the indirect potable reuse project and the long-term plan of building Lake Ringgold. The city is also in the works of replacing outdated water meters with what they call smart meters. These meters will be able to determine water use and even detect leaks. This information will make billing more efficient and customers will be able to see where their water is being used. The city is also working on putting a transit system outside Sheppard’s main gate and revamping the area by removing several structures to make the entrance more appealing. Mike Kurht mentioned the construction of the new Career Technical Education center should be completed around August 2017 and the extension to Barwise Jr. High is already being done. Mr. Kurht said the WFISD will also begin issuing Chromebooks to Junior High students to keep up with technology. After the January 27th Annual Chamber meeting the NTHBA was gearing up for February beginning with the February 3rd General Membership Meeting, February 11thEnergy Code Training Luncheon, February 12th the Young Professionals Texas Hold Em Poker Tournament and a Workforce Advocacy special meeting February 23rd which brought special guest, TAB representative Lorraine Urey and San Angelo builder and TAB Membership Chairman Mike Biggerstaff to Wichita Falls. Lorraine & Mike visited with the NTHBA regarding skills training centers and explained what the Texas Builders Foundation has to offer. Other guest included individuals from WFISD which included School Superintendent Mike Kuhrt and CTE Coordinator Michelle Wood, individuals from Vernon College which included, President Dr. Dusty Johnson, Associate Dean of Career & Technical Education, Shana Drury and Division Chair, Information & Technology Industrial Automation Systems instructor, Mark Holcomb. City View ISD School Superintendent Steve Harris along with Chamber President & CEO Henry Florsheim also attended. Members if the Workforce Advocacy Committee, Chairman John Harmon, Rick Belz, Barney Brock and Kevin Goldstein who also sits on the WFISD school board, NTHA board members, President Eddie Holcomb, Jose Garcia, Jake Munholland and Steven Klasse who is also on the scholarship committee as well as Scholarship Committee Chairman Bobby Diltz and Executive

Vice President Teri Gibson which gave the NTHBA a full house for this meeting. The goal for the Workforce Advocacy Committee is to bring awareness to the education industry, high schools, colleges, tech schools etc., the need for skilled workers in the construction industry and work toward implementing trade programs in their curriculum for all ages. There was a lot of great conversation and interest with these community leaders in working together with the NTHBA. The main take away from the meeting is as in most things; we will need community involvement both monetarily and physically to make these things happen. As Dr. Dusty Johnson mentioned, it’s political, as much as we all dislike politics it will take all of us working together to convince legislators we’ve got to have funding to expand. This will be a slow and steady project but we will keep everyone informed as we continue to talk with these leaders and new information is available. At this time Wichita Falls has not adopted the 2015 Energy Codes. Bobby Teague will be contacting the NTHBA office and we will be hosting another meeting to go over what the Wichita Falls decides to adopt. The meeting will be scheduled in the later part of August and you will receive information via email.
NTHBA Host TAB Energy Code Training Class On February 11th the North Texas Home Builders Association hosted the TAB 2015 Energy Code Training Class. The lunch & learn was held at the Good Times Party Barn compliments of member Rick Belz owner of the party barn and Builders Wholesale. Thank you Rick for your generosity once again. Training specialist were Fox Energy Specialist James Rodrigues and Donnie Lyons who instructed the class. Statewide sponsors were Fox Energy Specialist, Strucsure Home Warranty and Environments for Living who are also appreciated. Close to 60 builders, contractors, inspectors and utility distributors attended the lunch. James Rodriguez began by bragging on the TAB Government Affairs committee for looking out for the Texas builders with their help in getting legislation passed puts term limits on energy codes. It now has to be at least six year before a new energy code can be adopted rather than three years. This legislation was a huge win. He went on to talk tell the audience that the 2015 Energy Codes which were adopted will go into effect in September 2016. Rodriguez said not all municipalities are required to adopt the 2015 Energy Codes and some will adopt amendments to the code. According to city building official Bobby Teague Wichita Falls will be adopting amendments to the code. Those building outside city limits will still be required to build according to the 2015 Energy Codes. Rodriguez turned the presentation over to instructor Donnie Lyons who pointed out mandates vary depending on what region you are in. There are several paths to compliance which are: mandatory requirements, prescriptive path, performance path, energy star path and “New” Energy rating index path. Some major areas of the 2015 energy code consist of duct testing which has a duct target leakage of 4%, lighting mandates that of 75% of fixtures must have high efficiency bulbs, Energy rating index which provides builders with greater flexibility for energy compliance since it grants credit for items historically not recognized in
the energy code and has a ERI score of 65, Air Barrier Sealing and 3-5 ACH. Lead generation subject for February meeting of NTHBA

Ryan Bohn, vice president of sales and marketing for Contracting Marketing Pro’s, was the speaker at the February Membership Luncheon of the North Texas Home Builders Association, held Thursday, Feb. 4, at the Kemp Center for the Arts. Texas Best catered the event. Bohn said the Contractor Marketing Pro’s (CMP) has partnered with the Texas Association of Builders to assist its members in getting more business. He said as a professional lead-generation service, CMP has the insight as to what it takes to market your own company better and how to get the best exposure you can online. He presented the exclusive lead-generation program that is currently being offered through the TAB. Additionally, offered general Google advertising advice. He said people today do a Google search when finding businesses, settling arguments or just answering questions. He suggested creating a Google plus page for your business. “You will need a full-time marketing person to create interest and links for your business. Anyone can work directly with Google, but you need someone managing your account internally.” The presentation was unusual as Bohn was in a car wreck just outside of Waco on Thursday morning as he started his trip to Wichita Falls. He set up a remote wi-fi viewing presentation with the help of Baylor University and made his presentation to the membership. In other business, Kolter Lukert announced that Energy Code Training will take place on Thursday, Feb. 11. He added that the Young Professionals Texas Hold Em Poker Tournament fund raiser will be Friday, Feb. 12 from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at The Steel House, 1500 Old Burk Rd. The cost is $50 per player. Jake Munholland said the March Membership Luncheon will be a joint meeting with the Wichita Falls Association of Realtors.

Young Professionals Continue to Host Tournaments to Raise Funds Young Professionals host 2nd biennial Texas Hold Em Poker Tournament Fund Raiser Friday February 12, 2016 with 24 players in attendance. Nicki Bomer as first person out who received a fantastic constellation prize which she graciously shared with other players who weren’t so lucky to stay in the game. Several players visited over a game of pool or darts and others sat around cheering on the players while waiting to see who was next to get knocked out. After the third place player was determined Steven Hinson and Mark Alread called a draw and split the first and second prize evenly with both walking away with $250.00. Third place winner was able to break even and leave with the $50.00 it cost to buy into the tournament. Everyone had a lot of fun and enjoyed the camaraderie while the Young Professionals raised over $800.00 to go into their funds. These funds will be used to send representation to state meetings along with networking events. Thank you all who participated in this event. Don’t forget to watch for information on the next Young Professionals Texas Hold Em Poker Tournament later in the year.
