From the President Happy Independence Day!! We had a great week at the 63rd Annual Parade of Homes on June 6th-14th. The crowds were good and the comments about the homes were positive. I want to thank Eddie Holcomb and the Parade of Homes committee for all their hard work to make the parade a success. Special thanks to Cindy David and Landmark Title Company for sponsoring the Kick-Off Lunch. Teri Gibson did a great job helping to organize the Parade of Homes. In 6 months we have exceeded are yearly average rainfall. The lakes are at 100% capacity and still going over the spillway. The city has cancelled the water restrictions. The North Texas area is pretty green. The good Lord answered our prayers. The Sunbelt Builders Show is scheduled for the 28th-31st of July in Grapevine, TX. It is located at the Gaylord Resort near Great Wolf Lodge and the Bass Pro Shop. Plan to attend the educational seminars and floor Exhibit. It’s a great opportunity to learn how to build a better house and to pick up firsthand knowledge from distributors about new materials that are hitting the market. This is perfect time to attend some of the TAB Committee meetings and learn what TAB is doing for its members. All members are invited to attend the meetings but are asked to register at the TAB web site so they are able to plan accordingly. Another fun event scheduled during the Sunbelt is the TAB Fundango. This event is a fund raiser for HOMEPAC but is packed with a whole lot of fun. Tickets can be purchased online in advance before July 7th at a discounted rate. If you miss the deadline you can still purchase tickets from July 8th or the day of the event at a higher rate. You can register by going to the www.texasbuilders.org web site and clicking on the Sunbelt Builders Show tab or go directly to www.sunbeltbuildersshow.com. Both links can be found on the NTHBA web site www.nthba.com. I hope everyone is blessed with a great July. In August I will be able to give you an update on the TAB Summer meetings and a review of the 84th legislative session that has just concluded. A reminder, the General Membership meeting for July will be on the 9th at the Kemp at the Forum near Ben Franklin off of Speedway, formerly called the Women’s Forum, it will begin at 11:30 AM. Scholarship Chairman Barney Brock will deliver the scholarship presentation.

Committee Reports: It was pretty quiet around the NTHBA office during the month of June when it comes to committee meetings but it was still a very busy time for the association. The committees will be meeting once again in July to begin finalizing future events and Meetings for the coming months. The Nominations Committee will be meeting on July 7, 2015 to begin narrowing down candidates for the upcoming 2015/2016 Officers & Directors. If you have anyone you would like to see serving in the Officers & Directors positions and have not turned in a suggestion form please contact Teri and make arrangements to receive a form and turn it in by July 6, 2015. This will help the nominations committee make more qualified decisions. The Parade of Homes & Special Events Committee did a great job organizing the 2015 Parade of Homes. They committee will be back at it when they meet in July finalizing details for the upcoming golf tournament scheduled for Monday, September 28, 2015 at the Wichita Falls Country Club. You will be receiving information as soon as it is available. Please plan to be a part whether it is through a sponsorship, having a team or volunteering. There is a place for you. North Texas Home Builders Association would like to say Thank You to all who participated in the 2015 Parade of Homes. We had 8 builders, Classic Builders, Carolyn Adams Homes, Douglas Custom Homes, Garnel Construction, Harmon & Holcomb Homes, Klasse Homes, Lance Friday Homes and R.J. Wachsman Homes and Habitat for Humanity, who entered 14 fabulous homes. Landmark Title sponsored our Kick-Off Lunch once again with approximately 130 people attending. Special guest from the City of Wichita Falls included City Manager Darron Lieker, Councilor Brian Hooker, Councilor at large Michael Smith, Chamber CEO Henry Florsheim, Chamber Operations Director Cheri’ Jackson and the Gold Coat Ambassadors who helped with the Ribbon Cutting. Several members donated Silent Auction Items: Decorator Outlet, Guarantee Title Company, Higgonbotham Insurance, Fidelity Bank, Landmark Title Company, Lowe's, Morrison Supply Company, Stewart Title Company, The Ember Shop and Harmon & Holcomb Homes donated the TV for the drawing TV. We raised over $1000.00 to go to the TAB HOMEPAC Fund through these generous gifts.

Recommendations on Critical ICC Code Change Proposals NAHB is urging its members to get involved locally in the ICC code development process and schedule meetings with your state and local building code officials to discuss and gain support of our positions on the following significant code change proposals. The final disposition of any public comments submitted regarding these proposed code changes will take place during the ICC Public Comment Hearings to be held Sep. 30 – Oct. 7, 2015 in Long Beach, CA and the final Online Governmental Consensus Voting Period will take place approximately October 19 – 30, 2015.
2018 Building Code (IBC) – Code Change Proposals 1. G128-15 – High-Risk Areas – This code change proposal will limit the height, area and number of stories of sprinklered buildings, located in high-seismic, flood hazard or hurricane-prone regions, to the same limits as unsprinklered buildings. Requested Final Action: Disapprove 2. G130-15 – Height/Area Limits – This proposal clarifies that the building separation created by a firewall applies only for determining height/area limits and construction type. It does not require all of the elements and systems on each side of the fire wall be self-contained. Requested Final Action: Approve as Submitted 3. G135-15 – Height/Area Limits - This code change proposal adds a new provision requiring at least two fire apparatus access roads for Type III, IV or V buildings. Requested Final Action: Disapprove 4. G140-15 – Height/Area Limits - This code change proposal adds new section which will limit the floor area of Type IIB, IIIB and VB sprinklered buildings, located in high-seismic, flood hazard or hurricane-prone regions, to the same limits for unsprinklered buildings. Requested Final Action: Disapprove 5. G142-15 – Height/Area Limits - This code change proposal will require open space used to qualify for frontage area increases for Type III and IV buildings to be accessible to fire equipment and have a maximum 10% slope. Requested Final Action: Disapprove 6. G144-15 – Height/Area Limits – This code change proposal replaces frontage area calculations with new formulas increasing the area required for Type III, IV and V buildings. Requested Final Action: Disapprove 7. G152-15 – Mixed Occupancies – This code change proposal limits separation of mixed occupancies in critical and essential facilities built using Type IIB, IIIB, and VB to 2 hours or more in high-seismic and hurricane-prone regions and in flood hazard areas. G162-15 – Horizontal Separation – This code change proposal requires a 50 foot separation distance from Type V buildings (with light-frame construction) above a horizontal separation to lot lines or adjoining buildings on the same lot. G164-15 – Horizontal Separation – This code change proposal will require a 2-hour-rated horizontal assembly between Group R-1 and R-2 dwelling and sleeping units in buildings of Type III, IV and V construction. G226-15 – Fire Prevention Superintendent – This code change proposal will require a fire prevention superintendent, from an approved agency, to be present 24/7 during construction of all Type V buildings. Requested Final Action: Disapprove 14. G228-15 – Firefighting Access – This code change proposal will require a firefighting vehicle access plan per the IFC be submitted for all buildings and requires Type V buildings to have fire apparatus access on all sides of the building. Requested Final Action: Disapprove 15. G230-15 – Sprinklers during Construction – This code change proposal will require the fire sprinkler system be completed, tested and approved before construction can continue above 40 feet in height for all buildings of Type III, IV and V construction. Requested Final Action: Disapprove 16. G232-15 – Fire Watch – This code change proposal will require qualified personnel to provide a fire watch during non-working hours for light-frame construction exceeding 40 feet in height above lowest adjacent grade. Requested Final Action: Disapprove 17. G236-15 – Building Resilience – This code change proposal adds a new appendix on resilient construction. Included are increased structural, fire protection and egress requirements. Most buildings would be required to have storm shelters. Requested Final Action: Disapprove

Volunteers from Habitat for Humanity and United Market Street sold 1411 tickets to parade attendees who toured the beautiful parade home entries. There were 3 permits pulled in June in the City of Wichita Falls. All three were pulled by NTHBA Builder members. The total to date is 19 with 15 being from our builder members. Note: This does not include any homes being built outside the city of Wichita Falls.
Among our many ways of advertising, Newspaper, Television, Social Media and Radio we were blessed with the celebrity personality of Rachel Wheat as the voice for the spots on Bob-FM.
