Cornerstone Custom Homes & Construction I began my real estate career in 2007 working with several investors. I oversaw numerous remodeling projects, which involved home restoration, customer service and assisted all investors in the building of their portfolios. In 2011, while working for DISH Network and several investors, I was severely injured in an accident, which rendered me paralyzed until surgery was performed. Following surgery, I was unable to return to my former position with DISH Network. After many prayers, rehab and God’s blessings, I was redirected and offered a position to provide services for a renowned builder in Wichita Falls. After a little over a year, my family and I felt God leading us in a new direction. In 2012, I was blessed with the opportunity to fulfill my dream by starting my own new construction business. I strive to provide clients customer service along the way and truly care about the needs and desires of my clients. Since 2012, I have built and sold 11 custom homes. I am a member of The North Texas Home Builders Association and currently serving on the membership, meetings and education committee for 2017. I previously served with The North Texas Home Builders Association for the Parade of Homes and Special Events Committee in 2016. I have been with my beautiful wife for 14 years. She has also been in the real estate business for over 16 years. I am proud to say that she is a high producing Realtor and we work very well together as a team. Over many years we have enjoyed flipping, and remodeling several homes. I am a proud father of two beautiful girls, Savanah will attend DBU in the fall to play college golf and continue her golf journey, and Tatum will attend Christ Academy going in with many talents including, Volleyball, golf, piano, and singing. Dennis Company Dennis Company was begun in Wichita Falls in 1938 by Elmer Dennis. Commercial and oil field construction, along with residential remodeling were the mainstays of the business until the conclusion of World War II. His son, C.W.L. “Dub” Dennis returned from serving as a WWII bombardier navigator and joined his father in partnership in 1946. In the late 1940’s they entered the new home construction market. In 1954 they opened Dennis Lumber Company. In 1957 they added real estate brokerage. In 1960 they developed their first residential lots. Dennis Company was chosen by Better Homes & Garden Magazine in the 1960’s to build several of their featured “Idea Homes” in Wichita Falls. Dub’s son, Chuck, joined the firm in 1972 after law school and serving as an Army officer. Dennis Company has developed over 800 lots and built over 1,200 homes, plus apartments, townhouses, and light commercial properties. Dennis Company also helps its customers with selling their present home or trading it. Dennis continued, “We can list the present home of a customer to sell or take their present home in trade. House trades are done similar to trading cars and really keep you from time delay and moving twice – waiting to sell, then renting for a while, then moving to the new home”. Experience is important in building a home for a family. A new home is made up of thousands of products and involves many people and different processes. From foundation to home warranty Experience is not listed in the materials list or decorating schedule. But Experience is what brings those thousands of things together – correctly. “We know our experience and the experience of the skilled trades and products we choose is a must. Dennis Company has continually trained personnel and implemented new products and processes so as to build better and better homes. Our company history shows we have a lot of experience, and Experience is very important in building a new home”, said Dennis. Dennis Company added its 9th section to Belair Addition this year and is celebrating its 79th anniversary – a celebration of helping to build Wichita Falls. We are a “family business from start to finish” says Chuck Dennis. “We are very fortunate that family members continue to make Dennis Company a family home builder for families. Harmon & Holcomb Homes Two lifelong friends, John Harmon and Ed Holcomb, shared a common philosophy: to construct homes that were of the highest quality. John and Ed work closely with their customers from the beginning through the end, making the building process as stress-free as possible. Both spouses are also active in the business. Denise Holcomb utilizes her extensive background in decorating and design. She enjoys working with their customers in the color design process, selection of appliances and fixtures, and final finishes. Shannon Harmon serves behind the scenes as the company’s accountant, files manager, and account analyst. Harmon said, “We build twelve to fifteen custom homes a year. That way we can give our personal attention to each one. It is normal for us to inspect our jobs 1-3 times a day.” When asked what they like best about building homes, Holcomb replied, “The joy of helping our customers, from design to completion, in building their dream homes!” Once a home is finished, John and Ed tell their customers, “If you have a problem, call us first. Many times, we can walk them through a remedy. If more extensive work is needed, we will contact the necessary subcontractor for his expertise.” John and Ed feel the personal attention offered to customers, their knowledge base, and client service are outstanding. Understanding 2-10 Warranties When building a new home most qualified builders offer what is called a 2-10 warranty to the buyer. Here is information that may help you understand a 2-10 warranty. Although it is called a 2-10 warranty it’s more defined as a 1, 2 and 10-year combined warranty which includes coverage for one year on workmanship and materials, coverage for two years on the delivery portion of systems (electrical, plumbing, and heating & A/C), and coverage for 10 years on major structural defects. Under this combined warranty, the one-year portion backs the builder’s obligation to the buyer for workmanship and materials. Under the one-year warranty provision, the warranty will cover workmanship and material defects in the event the builder is unable to do so. The two-year warranty backs the builder’s obligation to the buyer for the delivery portion of systems (water supply system, septic tank system, plumbing, electrical, and heating & A/C). Under the two-year warranty provision, the warranty will cover the delivery portion of systems in the event the builder is unable to do so. A 10-year major structural defect warranty covers qualified load bearing components. Such as, foundation systems and footings, load-bearing beams and girders, lintels, roofing rafters and trusses, flooring joists and trusses, load bearing walls and load bearing columns to name a few. The 10-year structural warranty begins on the day of closing and lasts for 10 years. Remember not all warranties are created equal so make sure you ask an expert and understand the warranty you purchase for your new home. Although this information is deemed reliable, please confirm accuracy with a 2-10 home warranty professional.
