The history of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) dates back to 1 December 1985, when the NSSF Act, Cap 222, was assented to, repealing the Social Security Fund (SSF) Act of 1967.
In this special anniversary publication, we highlight how the then-new legislation, Cap 222, transformed the SSF scheme from a department within the Ministry of Labour into a fully fledged autonomous body, NSSF, which currently manages over UGX 32 trillion in total assets and provides social security to over 3.4 million registered members.
Our members remain at the centre of our journey. In this edition, we share inspiring stories of how NSSF savings have helped members build better lives and highlights of the innovative strategies that the Fund has pursued over the years to expand social security coverage in both formal and informal sectors.
