The City of North Vancouver is set to undergo major changes in who can park where, for how long and how much it will cost them.
Starting on Sept. 17, the city will be implementing pay parking in commercial areas along the Lonsdale Avenue corridor, opening up resident-exempt parking permits to people living in apartments, and making those permits applicable in two-to-three block “zones” rather than individual blocks. “This is a big transition for not just residents, but for the business community as well, and we’re trying to be as responsive and as helpful through this transition as possible,” said Jennifer Draper, the city’s deputy director of transportation. “Our goal is to make sure that people have clear guidance on how to participate and get prepared.” Council first debated the changes in May 2024 and voted to approve them in April 2025. The new rules come into place just two days after the District of West Vancouver will begin charging more than $5 per hour to park at Ambleside Park (see story on Page 4).
