Steve Couchman spends his days at the Northern Rescue Helicopter base, serving as base manager, flight instructor and captain. Growing up in Hawke’s Bay, Steve began his chopper career after gaining the necessary pilot’s licences whilst living in Australia on his OE
and acquiring flying experience. Helping people and ensuring they are given the best assistance possible to get to the hospital on each mission is an aspect of the career that is important to Steve and the other pilots, paramedics and crews he works alongside. continued on page 12 …
